Pseudosasa gracilis(Poaceae:Bambusoideae)is a temperate woody bamboo species endemic to Southcentral China with a narrow distribution.Previous phylogenetic studies revealed an unexpected,isolated phylogenetic position...Pseudosasa gracilis(Poaceae:Bambusoideae)is a temperate woody bamboo species endemic to Southcentral China with a narrow distribution.Previous phylogenetic studies revealed an unexpected,isolated phylogenetic position of Ps.gracilis.Here we conducted phylogenomic analysis by sampling populations of Ps.gracilis and its sympatric species Ps.nanunica and Sinosasa polytricha reflecting different genomic signals,by deep genome skimming.Integrating molecular evidence from chloroplast genes and genome-wide SNPs,we deciphered the phylogenetic relationships of Ps.gracilis.Both plastid and nuclear data indicate that Ps.gracilis is more closely related to Sinosasa,which is discordant with the taxonomic treatment.To further explore this molecular-morphological conflict,we screened 411“perfect-copy”syntenic genes to reconstruct phylogenies using both the concatenation and coalescent methods.We observed extensive discordance between gene trees and the putative species tree.A significant hybridization event was detected based on 411 genes from the D subgenome,showing Ps.gracilis was a hybrid descendant between Sinosasa longiligulata and Ps.nanunica,with 63.56%and 36.44%inheritance probabilities of each parent.Moreover,introgression events were detected in the C subgenome between Ps.gracilis and S.polytricha in the same distribution region.Our findings suggest that sympatric hybridization and introgression play a crucial role in the origin of Ps.gracilis.By providing an empirical example of bamboo of hybrid origin using comprehensive analyses based on genomic data from different inheritance systems and morphological characters,our study represents a step forward in understanding of reticulate evolution of bamboos.展开更多
Light is an important parameter in algal culturing.In this work,the effects of different light qualities on growth of the marine diatom Chaetoceros gracilis are evaluated.The cells were cultured under light quantum fl...Light is an important parameter in algal culturing.In this work,the effects of different light qualities on growth of the marine diatom Chaetoceros gracilis are evaluated.The cells were cultured under light quantum flux density of 60μmol photons/(m2·s)with nine light qualities:LED red light(LR),LED blue light(LB),LED red plus LED blue light(LR+LB),LED white light(LW),fluorescent white light(FW),and combinations of LW and FW lights with increased proportions of red or blue light(FW+LR,FW+LB,LW+LR,and LW+LB).Blue light promoted the growth of C.gracilis largely.Three light qualities,FW+LR,LW+LR,and LR,resulted in the lowest growth rate.Both chlorophyll and carotenoids reached the highest level under LB and the lowest level under LR among monochromatic light sources;however,increasing of the proportion of blue or red light in the white light induced an increase of the chlorophyll and carotenoid concentrations.Light absorption ability of microalgae was critical for the growth of these organisms,as we observed a positive correlation between the extinction coefficient at different wavelengths and the specific growth rate.These findings are of importance to improve the culturing of this alga in bioreactors.展开更多
Objective:To evaluate the essential oils(EO) composition,antimicrobial and antioxidant power of a local plant,Daucus gracilis(D.gracilis).Methods:The aerial parts of D.gracilis were subjected to hydro distillation by ...Objective:To evaluate the essential oils(EO) composition,antimicrobial and antioxidant power of a local plant,Daucus gracilis(D.gracilis).Methods:The aerial parts of D.gracilis were subjected to hydro distillation by a Clevenger apparatus type to obtain the EO which had been analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry,and screened for antimicrobial activity against five bacteria and three fungi by agar diffusion method.The mechanism of action of the EO was determined on the susceptible strains by both of time kill assay and lysis experience.The minimal inhibitory concentrations were determined by agar macrodilution and micro-dilution methods.Anti-oxidative properties of the EO were also studied by free diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and reducing power techniques.Results:The EO yielded 0.68(v/w).The chemical analysis presented two dominant constituents which were the elemicin(35.3%) and the geranyl acetate(26.8%).D.gracilis EO inhibited the growth of Bacillus cereus and Proteus mirabilis significantly with minimal inhibitory concentrations of 17.15 μg/mL by the agar dilution method and57.05 μg/mL and 114.1 μg/mL,respectively by liquid micro-dilution.A remarkable decrease in a survival rate as well as in the absorbance in 260 nm was recorded,which suggested that the cytoplasm membrane was one of the targets of the EO.The EO showed,also,important anti-oxidative effects with an IC50 of 0.002 mg/mL and a dosedependent reducing power.Conclusions:D.gracilis EO showed potent antimicrobial and anti-oxidative activities and had acted on the cytoplasm membrane.These activities could be exploited in the food industry for food preservation.展开更多

In the 1940’s, on the basis of the finding that in darkness or upon addition of some chemicals, E. gracilis would fade reversibly or irreversibly, some scholars hypothesised that A. longa evolved from E. gracilis by losing chloroplast. The authors’ use of RAPD and cladistic analyses in a study on the evolutionary relationship between A .longa and E. gracilis showed that the A. longa ’s relationship with E. gracilis was closer than that with other green euglenoids. This proves the hypothesis that A. longa evolved from E. gracilis is reasonable. The microalgae have been grown at different initial NaNO3 concentrations ( 75, 375, 750, 1 125, 1 500, 1 875 mg/L ) and harvested at the late exponential phase. The results by one factor analysis of variance show that the NaNO3 concentrations have no significant influence on the relative growth rate of two strains of marine diatoms; the influence of NaNO3 concentrations on the fatty acids differs from species to species. The major fatty acids of two --diatom strains are 14:0, 16:0, 16:1n7 and 20:5n3 ( EPA ) , B13 also has high percentage -of 20:4n6 ( 6.0 ~ 9.1% ).展开更多
AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of gracilis muscle transposition and postoperative salvage irrigation-suction in the treatment of complex rectovaginal fistulas(RVFs)and rectourethral fistulas(RUFs).METHODS:Between May 20...AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of gracilis muscle transposition and postoperative salvage irrigation-suction in the treatment of complex rectovaginal fistulas(RVFs)and rectourethral fistulas(RUFs).METHODS:Between May 2009 and March 2012,11female patients with complex RVFs and 8 male patients with RUFs were prospectively enrolled.Gracilis muscle transposition was undertaken in all patients and postoperative wound irrigation-suction was performed in patients with early leakage.Efficacy was assessed in terms of the success rate and surgical complications.SF-36 quality of life(QOL)scores and Wexner fecal incontinence scores were compared before and after surgery.RESULTS:The fistulas healed in 14 patients after gracilis muscle transposition;the initial healing rate was73.7%.Postoperative leakage occurred and continuous irrigation-suction of wounds was undertaken in 5patients:4 healed and 1 failed,and postoperative fecal diversions were performed for the patient whose treatment failed.At a median follow-up of 17 mo,the overall healing rate was 94.7%.Postoperative complications occurred in 4 cases.Significant improvement was observed in the quality outcomes framework scores(P<0.001)and Wexner fecal incontinence scores(P=0.002)after the successful healing of complex RVFs or RUFs.There was no significant difference in SF-36 QOL scores between the initial healing group and irrigationsuction-assisted healing group.CONCLUSION:Gracilis muscle transposition and postoperative salvage wound irrigation-suction gained a high success rate in the treatment of complex RVFs and RUFs.QOL and fecal incontinence were significantly improved after the successful healing of RVFs and RUFs.展开更多

Due to extensive morphological plasticity,the taxonomy of Cladophora species remains unclear.As one of the widely distributed species,C.gracilis was reported to hold many varieties,which make it difficult to identify ...Due to extensive morphological plasticity,the taxonomy of Cladophora species remains unclear.As one of the widely distributed species,C.gracilis was reported to hold many varieties,which make it difficult to identify the species.This study explored the morphology diversity of nine C.gracilis samples collected along the coast of western Yellow Sea.Some samples showed extremely varied characteristics,by which one cannot classify them correctly.Hence,18S rDNA and nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer regions(ITS)sequences were employed to delimit species.For 18S rDNA,sequence similarity ranged from 99.6%to 100%.For ITS region,the similarity ranged from 98.7%to 100%.Molecular data strongly suggested that the morphologically heterogeneous samples were actually the same species.Characteristics comparison of the samples revealed that the taxonomy criteria including branching pattern and density,thallus color,height and texture varied widely,influenced by environmental conditions and age of alga.Besides,cell dimensions,as the relatively stable criterion,also exhibited intraspecific variance.Successful application of 18S rDNA and ITS sequences indicated that molecular method can be a powerful assistant as DNA barcodes to traditional morphology taxonomy.展开更多

Euglena gracilis is a unicellular green eukaryotic microalga that features characteristics of both plants and animals.The photosynthetic function of its chloroplast is easily lost under stress resulting in bleached mu...Euglena gracilis is a unicellular green eukaryotic microalga that features characteristics of both plants and animals.The photosynthetic function of its chloroplast is easily lost under stress resulting in bleached mutants,while the physiological role of their residual plastid DNAs remains unclear.In this study,we obtained five bleached mutants by ofloxacin(Ofl)treatment,identified 12 residual plastid genes in five bleached mutants,and determined the mRNA levels in the wild type E.gracilis(WT)and one bleached mutant(OflB2)under dark and light stimulation conditions by quantitative reverse transcribed PCR(qRTPCR).Results show that the expression of all selected plastid genes in both WT and OflB2 mutant did not change significantly in darkness,while their responses to light stimulation were different.Under the light stimulation conditions,half of the genes did not change significantly,while most of the other genes were down-regulated in OflB2 mutant and up-regulated in WT.Therefore,the bleached mutant retains part of the plastid genome and the plastid relic is responsive to light.Our research will help to understand the functions of residual plastid DNA and evolution of chloroplasts.展开更多

Parasitological analysis of 453 specimens of B. b. gracilis along the eastern Tunisian coast revealed the presence of ten species of metazoan parasites: one monogenean Axine belones Abildgaard, 1794;four digeneansLecithostaphylus retroflexus (Molin, 1859), Tergestia acanthocephala (Stossich, 1887) Stossich, 1899, Aponurus laguncula Looss, 1907 and Condylocotyla pilodora(metacercaria) Pearson et Prévot, 1985;one copepod Bomolochus bellonesBurmeister, 1835;two isopods Irona nana Schioedte et Meinert, 1884 andNerocila orbignyi (Guérin-Méneville, 1832);1 acanthocephalan Telosentis exiguus (Von Linstow, 1901) and one nematod Anisakid larvae. Discriminant analysis using parasites as biological tags, allowed identifying two stocks ofB. b. gracilis. Digenea L. retroflexus, A. laguncula and Anisakid larvae were the most important species in determining the position of sampled fishes from the central coast off Tunisia. Metacercaria C. pilodora characterized specimens from the Southern coast off Tunisia. These results were corroborated by comparing parameters of prevalence and mean abundance between zones. Discriminant analysis used for the separation of B. b. gracilis between seasons in both localities showed that a seasonal variation affected mainly specimens from the center suggesting seasonal move of fishes.展开更多

The authors hypothesized that each river may contribute to habitat-specific variation in life history of the fish. To test this, a total of 378 specimens of Capoeta capoeta gracilis caught in the Atrak river (northern Iran) from Dec. 2007 to Nov. 2008 were examined for life history attributes. The population has a 5-year life cycle. Weight-length relationship (WLR) was estimated as W = 0.0127TL28981 for males, W = 0.0083TL3998 for females and W = 0.0084TL3942 for the population, being allometric negative for males and positive for females and the population. The VBGF fit to back-calculated size at age data were: Lt = 22.11 (1-e-0.19(t+135)), Lt = 25.37 (1-e-0.18(t+125)) and Lt = 24.92 (1-e-018(1+122)) for males, females and sexes combined respectively. Sex ratio was significant from the parity, females dominated. The reproductive season, evaluated from GSI, extended from Apr. to July, with the highest peak in May for males and in Apr. for females. The absolute fecundity ranged between 458-5,743 eggs with a mean of 1,375.06 eggs. Fecundity relative to total weight fluctuated from 14.90 to 132.58, with a mean value of 48.79 eggs·g-1. The diameter of oocytes ranged from 0.53 to 2.40 mm with a mean value of 1.46. The life history patterns of C. c. gracilis in the considered population imply that the many population characteristics of this species in the river differ markedly from those of other rivers of its range distribution in northern Iran. Probably, respond to environmental characteristics to improve fitness locally is the more suitable choice for differentiated life history strategies of the species in the river.展开更多

For a given amount of Nd3+ and cells, the results of ICP-AES indicated that the cellular uptake of Nd3+ was independent of Nd3+ concentration in thebulk solution. The average uptake of Nd3+ per celi (mMd) is proportional to a parameter ξ-theratio of neodymium content to the celi counts of the system. A novel approach for probing cellular neodymium by tetraiodotetra chlorofluorescein (I4TCF) has been devised. Data derived from the cryosections of !4TCF-Nd3+ stained cells and EDAX of the fast freezing ultrathin cryosections indicate that Nd3+ is distributed over the celi compartments. Chloroplasts are the major compartments as the residence of Nd3+ in the alga. The transport should be against a concentration gradient of Nd3+ on the order of five, even higher. it is proposed that a calcium ion channel would play an important role in the Nd3+ transportation.展开更多

Lectotype, paralectotypes of P. gracilis (Saunders, 1854) and P. denticulatus (Boileau, 1901) are designated. The doubtful species, P. piceipennis (Westwood, 1855) is evidently confirmed as a valid species with verification of its type depository. Two highly similar species, P. crenulidens (Fairmaire, 1895) and P. denticulatus (Boileau, 1901) are compared in detail for correcting longstanding wrong diagnoses of them. P. similis Schenk, 2009 is illustrated with male genitalia firstly. Two recently-published species, P. andreasi Schenk, 2009 and P. katsurai Fujita, 2010 are treated as new junior synonyms. All the five valid species in this paper are redescribed, with illustrations of adult (including type) habitus, male and female genitalia if they are available. The hydrodynamics and locomotion mechanism of Euglena Gracilis(E.Gracilis)is investigated using microscopic shadow imaging and micro particle image velocimetry(MicroPIV).Three distinct locomotion modes were observed:t...The hydrodynamics and locomotion mechanism of Euglena Gracilis(E.Gracilis)is investigated using microscopic shadow imaging and micro particle image velocimetry(MicroPIV).Three distinct locomotion modes were observed:translation,spin,and left/right turn.Since the flagellum was not possible to image,the strokes were identified by evaluating the flow field around the protist.The flow field information is obtained using a phase-separated PIV evaluation,which uses a histogram-thresholding based dynamic masking approach.The temporal resolution of the experiment was sufficient to identify the sequence of two modes,translation and spin,and the stroke-pulling frequency.The flow field result during a stroke is compared with existing Stokeslet dipole theories and flow disturbance decay with distance is investigated.The results indicate that the organism has a complex locomotion technique that allows the change of direction,axial orientation and propulsion.展开更多

文摘Abies gracilis Kom.(Pinaceae)is one of the rarest and endangered conifers in the Russian flora,which must be cultivated ex situ to ensure its survival.Cuttings of A.gracilis do not take root without biostimulants.We used a selection of biostimulants,concentrations,and conditions of their use to significantly increase Abies gracilis rooting,and to accelerate the production of planting material,and to reduce rooting time to one season.We tested 4 rooting systems:IBA,IBA with glucose and glycine,and original biostimulants(S-try and S-5).The original S-5 biostimulating system had the most balanced ratio of components.The number of rooted samples increased 2.7 times and the length of roots increased 1.8 time when using S-5 as compared to IBA.S-try and S-5-original biostimulant systems were synthesized and collected in 2011 and 2014,respectively,and were tested in St.Petersburg Forest Technical University.

文摘Fatty acid compositions of two strains of marine diatoms Nitzschia closterium ( MACC B222 ) and Chaetoceros gracilis ( MACC B13 ) have been examined. The microalgae have been grown at different initial NaNO3 concentrations ( 75, 375, 750, 1 125, 1 500, 1 875 mg/L ) and harvested at the late exponential phase. The results by one factor analysis of variance show that the NaNO3 concentrations have no significant influence on the relative growth rate of two strains of marine diatoms; the influence of NaNO3 concentrations on the fatty acids differs from species to species. The major fatty acids of two --diatom strains are 14:0, 16:0, 16:1n7 and 20:5n3 ( EPA ) , B13 also has high percentage -of 20:4n6 ( 6.0 ~ 9.1% ).

文摘AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of gracilis muscle transposition and postoperative salvage irrigation-suction in the treatment of complex rectovaginal fistulas(RVFs)and rectourethral fistulas(RUFs).METHODS:Between May 2009 and March 2012,11female patients with complex RVFs and 8 male patients with RUFs were prospectively enrolled.Gracilis muscle transposition was undertaken in all patients and postoperative wound irrigation-suction was performed in patients with early leakage.Efficacy was assessed in terms of the success rate and surgical complications.SF-36 quality of life(QOL)scores and Wexner fecal incontinence scores were compared before and after surgery.RESULTS:The fistulas healed in 14 patients after gracilis muscle transposition;the initial healing rate was73.7%.Postoperative leakage occurred and continuous irrigation-suction of wounds was undertaken in 5patients:4 healed and 1 failed,and postoperative fecal diversions were performed for the patient whose treatment failed.At a median follow-up of 17 mo,the overall healing rate was 94.7%.Postoperative complications occurred in 4 cases.Significant improvement was observed in the quality outcomes framework scores(P<0.001)and Wexner fecal incontinence scores(P=0.002)after the successful healing of complex RVFs or RUFs.There was no significant difference in SF-36 QOL scores between the initial healing group and irrigationsuction-assisted healing group.CONCLUSION:Gracilis muscle transposition and postoperative salvage wound irrigation-suction gained a high success rate in the treatment of complex RVFs and RUFs.QOL and fecal incontinence were significantly improved after the successful healing of RVFs and RUFs.

文摘Due to extensive morphological plasticity,the taxonomy of Cladophora species remains unclear.As one of the widely distributed species,C.gracilis was reported to hold many varieties,which make it difficult to identify the species.This study explored the morphology diversity of nine C.gracilis samples collected along the coast of western Yellow Sea.Some samples showed extremely varied characteristics,by which one cannot classify them correctly.Hence,18S rDNA and nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer regions(ITS)sequences were employed to delimit species.For 18S rDNA,sequence similarity ranged from 99.6%to 100%.For ITS region,the similarity ranged from 98.7%to 100%.Molecular data strongly suggested that the morphologically heterogeneous samples were actually the same species.Characteristics comparison of the samples revealed that the taxonomy criteria including branching pattern and density,thallus color,height and texture varied widely,influenced by environmental conditions and age of alga.Besides,cell dimensions,as the relatively stable criterion,also exhibited intraspecific variance.Successful application of 18S rDNA and ITS sequences indicated that molecular method can be a powerful assistant as DNA barcodes to traditional morphology taxonomy.

文摘A new species, Clathrocorys gracilis nov. spec., of Tripocyrtidae (Radiolarians: Nassellaria) from surface water in northern South China Sea, is described in this paper. The new species has four radial beams arising from the cephalic base centre, each foot with cup-shaped structure and ramified bar in the proximal section (near cephalic base), and each wing with a large mesh in the middle, a medium mesh and a small mesh on each side respectively.

文摘Euglena gracilis is a unicellular green eukaryotic microalga that features characteristics of both plants and animals.The photosynthetic function of its chloroplast is easily lost under stress resulting in bleached mutants,while the physiological role of their residual plastid DNAs remains unclear.In this study,we obtained five bleached mutants by ofloxacin(Ofl)treatment,identified 12 residual plastid genes in five bleached mutants,and determined the mRNA levels in the wild type E.gracilis(WT)and one bleached mutant(OflB2)under dark and light stimulation conditions by quantitative reverse transcribed PCR(qRTPCR).Results show that the expression of all selected plastid genes in both WT and OflB2 mutant did not change significantly in darkness,while their responses to light stimulation were different.Under the light stimulation conditions,half of the genes did not change significantly,while most of the other genes were down-regulated in OflB2 mutant and up-regulated in WT.Therefore,the bleached mutant retains part of the plastid genome and the plastid relic is responsive to light.Our research will help to understand the functions of residual plastid DNA and evolution of chloroplasts.
文摘The aim of the present study was to provide a current survey of metazoan parasites of the Mediterranean garfish Belone belone gracilis Lowe, 1839 off Tunisian coast and their potential use as biological tags for discriminate stocks. Parasitological analysis of 453 specimens of B. b. gracilis along the eastern Tunisian coast revealed the presence of ten species of metazoan parasites: one monogenean Axine belones Abildgaard, 1794;four digeneansLecithostaphylus retroflexus (Molin, 1859), Tergestia acanthocephala (Stossich, 1887) Stossich, 1899, Aponurus laguncula Looss, 1907 and Condylocotyla pilodora(metacercaria) Pearson et Prévot, 1985;one copepod Bomolochus bellonesBurmeister, 1835;two isopods Irona nana Schioedte et Meinert, 1884 andNerocila orbignyi (Guérin-Méneville, 1832);1 acanthocephalan Telosentis exiguus (Von Linstow, 1901) and one nematod Anisakid larvae. Discriminant analysis using parasites as biological tags, allowed identifying two stocks ofB. b. gracilis. Digenea L. retroflexus, A. laguncula and Anisakid larvae were the most important species in determining the position of sampled fishes from the central coast off Tunisia. Metacercaria C. pilodora characterized specimens from the Southern coast off Tunisia. These results were corroborated by comparing parameters of prevalence and mean abundance between zones. Discriminant analysis used for the separation of B. b. gracilis between seasons in both localities showed that a seasonal variation affected mainly specimens from the center suggesting seasonal move of fishes.
文摘Within the wide distribution of Lenkoran in Iran, populations of the species inhabit variety of habitats. The authors hypothesized that each river may contribute to habitat-specific variation in life history of the fish. To test this, a total of 378 specimens of Capoeta capoeta gracilis caught in the Atrak river (northern Iran) from Dec. 2007 to Nov. 2008 were examined for life history attributes. The population has a 5-year life cycle. Weight-length relationship (WLR) was estimated as W = 0.0127TL28981 for males, W = 0.0083TL3998 for females and W = 0.0084TL3942 for the population, being allometric negative for males and positive for females and the population. The VBGF fit to back-calculated size at age data were: Lt = 22.11 (1-e-0.19(t+135)), Lt = 25.37 (1-e-0.18(t+125)) and Lt = 24.92 (1-e-018(1+122)) for males, females and sexes combined respectively. Sex ratio was significant from the parity, females dominated. The reproductive season, evaluated from GSI, extended from Apr. to July, with the highest peak in May for males and in Apr. for females. The absolute fecundity ranged between 458-5,743 eggs with a mean of 1,375.06 eggs. Fecundity relative to total weight fluctuated from 14.90 to 132.58, with a mean value of 48.79 eggs·g-1. The diameter of oocytes ranged from 0.53 to 2.40 mm with a mean value of 1.46. The life history patterns of C. c. gracilis in the considered population imply that the many population characteristics of this species in the river differ markedly from those of other rivers of its range distribution in northern Iran. Probably, respond to environmental characteristics to improve fitness locally is the more suitable choice for differentiated life history strategies of the species in the river.
文摘Euglena gracilis 277, a unicellular green alga, demonstrated remarkable ability to transport Nd3+ to the cell compartments. For a given amount of Nd3+ and cells, the results of ICP-AES indicated that the cellular uptake of Nd3+ was independent of Nd3+ concentration in thebulk solution. The average uptake of Nd3+ per celi (mMd) is proportional to a parameter ξ-theratio of neodymium content to the celi counts of the system. A novel approach for probing cellular neodymium by tetraiodotetra chlorofluorescein (I4TCF) has been devised. Data derived from the cryosections of !4TCF-Nd3+ stained cells and EDAX of the fast freezing ultrathin cryosections indicate that Nd3+ is distributed over the celi compartments. Chloroplasts are the major compartments as the residence of Nd3+ in the alga. The transport should be against a concentration gradient of Nd3+ on the order of five, even higher. it is proposed that a calcium ion channel would play an important role in the Nd3+ transportation.

文摘Prosopocoilus gracilis (Saunders, 1854) and its seven allied species from China are revised. Lectotype, paralectotypes of P. gracilis (Saunders, 1854) and P. denticulatus (Boileau, 1901) are designated. The doubtful species, P. piceipennis (Westwood, 1855) is evidently confirmed as a valid species with verification of its type depository. Two highly similar species, P. crenulidens (Fairmaire, 1895) and P. denticulatus (Boileau, 1901) are compared in detail for correcting longstanding wrong diagnoses of them. P. similis Schenk, 2009 is illustrated with male genitalia firstly. Two recently-published species, P. andreasi Schenk, 2009 and P. katsurai Fujita, 2010 are treated as new junior synonyms. All the five valid species in this paper are redescribed, with illustrations of adult (including type) habitus, male and female genitalia if they are available. A key to large males is provided for identifying them briefly.
文摘The hydrodynamics and locomotion mechanism of Euglena Gracilis(E.Gracilis)is investigated using microscopic shadow imaging and micro particle image velocimetry(MicroPIV).Three distinct locomotion modes were observed:translation,spin,and left/right turn.Since the flagellum was not possible to image,the strokes were identified by evaluating the flow field around the protist.The flow field information is obtained using a phase-separated PIV evaluation,which uses a histogram-thresholding based dynamic masking approach.The temporal resolution of the experiment was sufficient to identify the sequence of two modes,translation and spin,and the stroke-pulling frequency.The flow field result during a stroke is compared with existing Stokeslet dipole theories and flow disturbance decay with distance is investigated.The results indicate that the organism has a complex locomotion technique that allows the change of direction,axial orientation and propulsion.
