Purpose: To report a case of a pediatric corneal limbal dermoid with eyelashes and to describe post-operative changes after excision with reconstruction using amniotic membrane grafting, sutures and fibrinogen-thrombin glue. Case Report: One pediatric patient was identified with a grade II infratemporal corneal-limbal dermoid with conjunctival eyelashes. The dermoid was surgically excised and the cornea reconstructed with amniotic membrane using sutures and fibrinogen/thrombin glue. Preoperative and postoperative measurement of astigmatism, anisometropia and presence of exposure keratopathy were performed. 展开更多

The effect of grafted alkyl side chains on the properties of poly(terphenyl piperidinium) based high temperature proton exchange membranes

High temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells(HT-PEMFCs)operating at elevated temperatures above 120℃ take advantage of feasible anode fuels and simplified water/heat management.A high temperature polymer electrolyte membrane(HT-PEM)is the core material for HT-PEMFCs.In this work,a series of phosphoric acid(PA)doped HT-PEMs based on poly(terphenyl piperidine)(PTP)tailored with alkyl groups are synthesized.Five different pendant alkyl groups(including methyl,propyl,pentyl,heptyl and decyl)are grafted onto the piperidine group through the Menshutkin reaction between PTP and alkyl halides.Compared with PTP and methyl grafted PTP(PTP-C1)membranes,the PTP-Cx membranes with long alkyl side chains exhibit improved PA doping contents and conductivities.The optimized pentylsubstituted PTP membrane(PTP-C5)possessed a reasonable PA doping content(202%after immersing in 85 wt%PA at 60℃),high proton conductivity(96 mS cm^(-1) at 180℃)and good tensile strength(4.6 MPa at room temperature).A H_(2)–air single cell equipped with PTP-C5/PA consequently achieved a high peak power density of 676 mW cm^(-2) at 210℃ without any humidification or backpressure.Thus,this work provides a simple method for preparing high-performance HT-PEMs. 展开更多

AIM: To find the risk factors related to the reproliferation of the pterygial tissue after excision and graft surgery.METHODS: Charts of 130 eyes of 130 patients who had pterygial excision from March 2006 to April 2011 were reviewed. Preoperative pterygium morphology, surgical methods, and adjunctive treatments were statistically analyzed for their relationship with recurrence.RESULTS: During the follow-up period, recurrence was observed in 20 eyes(15.4%). None of the preoperative morphologic features were affected the rate of the recurrence. However, an age 【40y [P =0.085, odds ratio(OR) 3.609, 95% confidence interval(CI) 0.838-15.540]and amniotic membrane graft instead of conjunctival autograft(P =0.002, OR 9.093, 95% CI 2.316-35.698) were statistically significant risk factors for recurrence.Multivariate analysis revealed that intraoperative mitomycin C(MMC)(P =0.072, OR 0.298, 95% CI 0.080-1.115)decreased the rate of recurrence. CONCLUSION: Younger age is a risk factor for reproliferation of pterygial tissue after excision and amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT) are less effective in preventing recurrence of pterygium after excision based on the comparison between conjunctival autograft and AMT. Intraoperative MMC application and conjunctival autograft reduce recurrence. 展开更多

Comparison of anatomical and functional outcomes of different surgical techniques in myopic macular hole without retinal detachment 被引量:1

AIM:To define the anatomic and functional outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)with internal limiting membrane(ILM)peeling,inverted ILM flap and free ILM patch graft technique for the treatment of myopic macular hole(MH)without retinal detachment.METHODS:Sixty-four eyes of 64 patients who underwent PPV for myopic MH were included.Group 1 consists of patients underwent ILM peeling(n=26),and Groups 2 and 3 consists of patient underwent free ILM patch graft(n=20)and inverted ILM flap procedure(n=18)respectively.Outcomes following surgery were MH closure and best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)in logMAR at 6mo.RESULTS:Closure of MH was obtained in 20 eyes(76.9%)of the Group 1,in 16 eyes(80%)of the Group 2 and in 16 eyes(88.9%)of the Group 3.The mean preoperative and postoperative BCVA was 1.60±0.53 logMAR and 1.27±0.58 logMAR,respectively(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the postoperative BCVA and anatomical closure rates in the three groups.Although the anatomical closure rate did not differ significantly in the groups,closure of MH tended to be better in the inverted ILM flap technique group at 6mo.CONCLUSION:Different surgical techniques may provide favorable visual and anatomical results for myopic MH surgery.ILM flap techniques offer higher closure rates compared to ILM peeling technique.However,in terms of visual outcomes,the study reveals no difference in three surgical techniques. 展开更多
