The accurate testing and interpretation of coal sorption isotherm plays an important role in the areas of coal mine methane drainage, coalbed methane (CBM) reservoir resource assessment, enhanced coalbed methane (ECBM) recovery, as well as the carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration in deep coal seams or similar geological formations. Different coal sorption isotherm testing apparatus and associated calculation methods are critically reviewed and presented in this paper. These include both volumetric and gravimetric based methods, as well as experimental sorption tests with confining stress and direction sorption methods. The volumetric techniques utilise experimental apparatus with sample cell and injection pump and that with both sample cell and reference cell. Whilst the gravimetric approachesinclude methods with sample cell and suspension magnetic balance and that with both sample cell and reference cell. Different testing methods are compared and discussed in this study. A unique in-house-built coal sorption isotherm testing apparatus at the University of Wollongong was presented together with the calculation method, procedures and experimental results. The isotherm results can be calculated by both Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) equation and calibration cure methods which can be used directly to convert the volume of adsorbed gas in different test conditions to standard condition (NTP).展开更多

The methodology developed is focused on the one hand on the gravimetric geophysical method and on the other hand, on petro-structural studies. The geophysical results highlighted two gravimetric facies characterized respectively by high density (ΔBg > 121 mGal) and low density (ΔBg < 114 mGal) anomalies. From a lithological point of view, the denser domains are made up of intrusive rocks dominated by granodiorites and tonalites cutting low density facies composed of Tarkwaian formations (polygenic conglomerates and arkosic sandstones) and volcanics (tuffs and cinerites). Structurally, these different lithological groups are affected by brittle (fractures, faults, strike-slip) and ductile (folds, schistosities and mineral lineations) deformations. These structures are mainly oriented NNW-SSW, WNW-ESE and NE-SW. The description of the sulphide minerals reveals a style of gold mineralization of the Tarkwaian formations.展开更多

Aluminum cook wares were bought from the market from four countries and cut to make the Aluminum samples. Six types of vegetables and three kinds of meat were chosen. Each type of vegetable and meat was used to prepare 30% w/v aqueous solutions. Three methods were used in the present study: Gravimetric method, Atomic Absorption and FTIR. Gravimetric method was applied to determine the leaching rate and the corrosion inhibition efficiency with/without NaCl. The effect of Curcumin concentration, Tab water, immersion time, alloying elements was investigated. There was a good consistency between Gravimetric and Atomic Absorption methods. The adsorption of Curcumin on the aluminum surface was in accordance with Langmuir isotherm. The values of the adsorption constant (Kads) and the free energy of adsorption (Gadso) were calculated and discussed. FTIR spectrum indicated that Curcumin coordinated with Al3+ resulting in the formation of Al3+-Curcumin complex on the metal surface. Using a small amount of Curcumin decreased leaching from Aluminum cook wares into food by 60% - 80% depending about the type of food.展开更多

Aluminum and aluminum alloys are subjected to corrosion in the aggressive environment of chlorides, so several green corrosion inhibitors, mostly of plant origin, with minimum impact on health and the environment have been examined. In this study, the inhibition efficiency of 1.25 mM Crocin in a 0.01 M NaCl corrosive solution was assessed via electrochemical corrosion techniques and gravimetric mass loss measurements of the aluminum alloys. The surface of the specimens was examined using Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, Stereomicroscopy and Glossiness measurements. Experimental results reveal the protective anticorrosive action of Crocin for all aluminum alloys in the sodium chloride medium.展开更多

Solubilities of o-phenylphenol(OPP) in petroleum ether and DDP in acetone + water solution were measured by a gravimetrical method. The solubility data of OPP were well correlated using Francis equation. For the solubility of DDP in acetone aqueous solution, it was found that at each fixed temperature there existed a maximum when the acetone mass fraction in the solvent reached a certain concentration. The experiment shows that the fraction is approximately 0.6. The solubility data would be helpful for their industrial crystallization process.展开更多
