However, due to the limited information on cloud vertical structures included in passive satellite radiometer observations, few operational satellite CBH products are currently available. This study presents a new method for retrieving CBH from satellite radiometers. The method first uses the combined measurements of satellite radiometers and ground-based cloud radars to develop a lookup table(LUT) of effective cloud water content(ECWC), representing the vertically varying cloud water content. This LUT allows for the conversion of cloud water path to cloud geometric thickness(CGT), enabling the estimation of CBH as the difference between cloud top height and CGT. Detailed comparative analysis of CBH estimates from the state-of-the-art ECWC LUT are conducted against four ground-based millimeter-wave cloud radar(MMCR) measurements, and results show that the mean bias(correlation coefficient) is0.18±1.79 km(0.73), which is lower(higher) than 0.23±2.11 km(0.67) as derived from the combined measurements of satellite radiometers and satellite radar-lidar(i.e., Cloud Sat and CALIPSO). Furthermore, the percentages of the CBH biases within 250 m increase by 5% to 10%, which varies by location. This indicates that the CBH estimates from our algorithm are more consistent with ground-based MMCR measurements. Therefore, this algorithm shows great potential for further improvement of the CBH retrievals as ground-based MMCR are being increasingly included in global surface meteorological observing networks, and the improved CBH retrievals will contribute to better cloud radiative effect estimates.展开更多

Existing evaluation rules of radar RF stealth include too many parameters of radar and interceptors, such as Schleher interception factor, which makes it difficult to evaluate radar RF stealth technologies if interceptor parameters are unknown. In communication, security capacity has been presented to describe the possible ability to communicate in complete security. Since the essential of the secu- rity capacity is to have the interceptor get none valued information from the emitter, this paper is proposed to study security infor- mation factors taking advantage of mutual information to evaluate radar RF stealth under some conditions. Through analyzing mutual information obtained by the radar and the interceptor, this paper defines the security information factor with and without cooperative jamming. Furthermore, this paper deduces the ratio of the match filter to the match incoherent filter and discuss mutual information received by the interceptor. Numerical simulations illustrate radar RF stealth effects based on the security information factor concept under different conditions.展开更多

First, the method for the determination of the cued search region, arrangement of beam positions, and the calculation of the prior probability distribution of each beam position is discussed. And then, two search algorithms based on information gain are proposed using Shannon entropy and Kullback-Leibler entropy, respectively. With the proposed strategy, the information gain of each beam position is predicted before the radar detection, and the observation is made in the beam position with the maximal information gain. Compared with the conventional method of sequential search and confirm search, simulation results show that the proposed search strategy can distinctly improve the search performance and save radar time resources with the same given detection probability.展开更多

In order to improve the spectrum utilization efficiency in ISAC, we propose a design scheme based on spectrum sharing, that is,to maximize the mutual information(MI) of radar sensing while ensuring certain communication rate and transmission power constraints. In the proposed scheme, three cases are considered for the scattering off the target due to the communication signals,as negligible signal, beneficial signal, and interference signal to radar sensing, respectively, thus requiring three power allocation schemes. However, the corresponding power allocation schemes are nonconvex and their closed-form solutions are unavailable as a consequence. Motivated by this, alternating optimization(AO), sequence convex programming(SCP) and Lagrange multiplier are individually combined for three suboptimal solutions corresponding with three power allocation schemes. By combining the three algorithms, we transform the non-convex problem which is difficult to deal with into a convex problem which is easy to solve and obtain the suboptimal solution of the corresponding optimization problem. Numerical results show that, compared with the allocation results of the existing algorithms, the proposed joint design algorithm significantly improves the radar performance.展开更多

An information theory approach is applied to the SAR imaging system, and the information content about a target that can be extracted from its radar image is evaluated by the average mutual information measure. A conditional (transition) probability density function (PDF) of the SAR imaging system is derived by analyzing the system and a closed form of the information content is found. It is shown that the information content obtained by the SAR imaging system from an independent sample of echoes will decrease and the total information content obtained by the SAR imaging system will increase with an increase in the number of looks. Because the total average mutual information is also used to define a measure of radiometric resolution for radar images, it is shown that the radiometric resolution of a radar image of terrain will be improved by spatial averaging. In addition, the imaging process and the data compression process for SAR are each treated as an independent generalized communication channel. The effects of data compression upon radiometric resolution for SAR are studied and some conclusions are obtained.展开更多

By controlling the repeated campaigns of the radar antenna on a fixed track, ground-based micro-deformation monitoring radar can accomplish repeat-pass interferometry without a space baseline and thus obtain highprecision deformation data of a large scene at one time. However, it is difficult to guarantee absolute stable installation position in every campaign. However, in practical applications, the information obtained by a single device is limited, and it is necessary to integrate the information of maritime radar and AIS messages to achieve better recognition effects. In this study, the D-S evidence theory is used to fusion the two kinds of heterogeneous information: maritime radar images and AIS messages. Firstly, the radar image and AIS message are processed to get the targets of interest in the same coordinate system. Then, the coordinate position and heading of targets are chosen as the indicators for judging target similarity. Finally, a piece of D-S evidence theory based on the information fusion method is proposed to match the radar target and the AIS target of the same ship. It is difficult to classify targets by the shadow information independently, because the shadow shape is dependent on the radar aspect angle, the depression angle and the resolution. Moreover, the shadow shapes of different targets are similar. When the multiple SAR images of one target from different aspects are available, the performance of the target recognition can be improved. Aimed at the problem, a multi-aspect SAR image recognition technique based on the shadow information is developed. It extracts shadow profiles from SAR images, and takes chain codes as the feature vectors of targets. Then, feature vectors on multiple aspects of the same target are combined with feature sequences, and the hidden Markov model (HMM) is applied to the feature sequences for the target recognition. The simulation result shows the effectiveness of the method.展开更多

However, the existing SR algorithms, which are used for ISAR imaging, have suffered from high computational cost and poor imaging quality under a low signal to noise ratio (SNR) condition. This paper proposes a fast decoupled ISAR imaging method by exploiting the inherent structural sparse information of the targets. Firstly, the ISAR imaging problem is decoupled into two sub-problems. One is range direction imaging and the other is azimuth direction focusing. Secondly, an efficient two-stage SR method is proposed to obtain higher resolution range profiles by using jointly sparse information. Finally, the residual linear Bregman iteration via fast Fourier transforms (RLBI-FFT) is proposed to perform the azimuth focusing on low SNR efficiently. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed method has better performence to efficiently implement higher-resolution ISAR imaging under the low SNR condition.展开更多

The practical applications drive us to make improvements on the conventional linear rail GB-SAR system in order to achieve larger field imaging. First, a turntable is utilized to support the rotational movement of the radar.Next, a series of high-squint scanning is performed with multiple squint angles. Further, the high squint modulation phase of the echo data is eliminated. Then, a new multi-angle imaging method is performed in the wave number domain to expand the field of view. Firstly, a target search model based on the information gain criterion is presented with known detection performance, and the statistical characteristic of the detection probability is calculated by using the fluctuant model of the target radar cross section (RCS). Secondly, when the detection probability is completely unknown, its probability density function is modeled with a beta distribution, and its posterior probability distribution with the radar observation is derived based on the Bayesian theory. Finally simulation results show that the cued search algorithm with a known RCS fluctuant model can achieve the best performance, and the algorithm with the detection probability modeled as a beta distribution is better than that with a random selected detection probability because the model parameters can be updated by the radar observation to approach to the real value of the detection probability.展开更多

文摘Cloud base height(CBH) is a crucial parameter for cloud radiative effect estimates, climate change simulations, and aviation guidance. Therefore, this algorithm shows great potential for further improvement of the CBH retrievals as ground-based MMCR are being increasingly included in global surface meteorological observing networks, and the improved CBH retrievals will contribute to better cloud radiative effect estimates.

Finally, a piece of D-S evidence theory based on the information fusion method is proposed to match the radar target and the AIS target of the same ship. Particularly, the effectiveness of the proposed method has been validated and evaluated through several experiments, which proves that such a method is practical in maritime safety supervision.
文摘The traditional synthetic aperture radar(SAR) image recognition techniques focus on the electro magnetic (EM) scattering centers, ignoring the important role of the shadow information on the SAR image recognition. The simulation result shows the effectiveness of the method.

文摘Inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) image can be represented and reconstructed by sparse recovery (SR) approaches. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed method has better performence to efficiently implement higher-resolution ISAR imaging under the low SNR condition.

文摘Ground-based synthetic aperture radar(GB-SAR) has been successfully applied to the ground deformation monitoring. However, due to the short length of the GB-SAR platform, the scope of observation is largely limited. Simulation and real experiments verify the effectiveness of this method.

文摘A cued search algorithm with uncertain detection performance is proposed for phased array radars. Finally simulation results show that the cued search algorithm with a known RCS fluctuant model can achieve the best performance, and the algorithm with the detection probability modeled as a beta distribution is better than that with a random selected detection probability because the model parameters can be updated by the radar observation to approach to the real value of the detection probability.
文摘The jamming resource allocation problem of the aircraft formation cooperatively jamming netted radar system is investigated. An adaptive allocation strategy based on dynamic adaptive discrete cuckoo search algorithm(DADCS)is proposed, whose core is to adjust allocation scheme of limited jamming resource of aircraft formation in real time to maintain the best jamming effectiveness against netted radar system.Firstly, considering the information fusion rules and different working modes of the netted radar system,a two-factor jamming effectiveness evaluation function is constructed, detection probability and aiming probability are adopted to characterize jamming effectiveness against netted radar system in searching and tracking mode, respectively. Then a nonconvex optimization model for cooperatively jamming netted radar system is established. Finally,a dynamic adaptive discrete cuckoo search algorithm(DADCS)is constructed by improving path update strategies and introducing a global learning mechanism, and a three-step solution method is proposed subsequently.Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed optimization strategy and the effectiveness of the improved algorithm.

文摘Radar and LiDAR are two environmental sensors commonly used in autonomous vehicles,Lidars are accurate in determining objects’positions but significantly less accurate as Radars on measuring their velocities. However,Radars relative to Lidars are more accurate on measuring objects velocities but less accurate on determining their positions as they have a lower spatial resolution. In order to compensate for the low detection accuracy, incomplete target attributes and poor environmental adaptability of single sensors such as Radar and LiDAR,in this paper,an effective method for high-precision detection and tracking of surrounding targets of autonomous vehicles.By employing the Unscented Kalman Filter,Radar and LiDAR information is effectively fused to achieve high-precision detection of the position and speed information of targets around the autonomous vehicle. Finally, the real vehicle test under various driving environment scenarios is carried out.The experimental results show that the proposed sensor fusion method can effectively detect and track the vehicle peripheral targets with high accuracy.Compared with a single sensor,it has obvious advantages and can improve the intelligence level of autonomous cars.

文摘The problem of measuring exterior ballistic feature points is always difficult to solve and it is essentiale on exterior ballistic measurement.By analysis of radar reflection characteristics and non-stationary echo signals of exterior ballistic feature points, the echo data of exterior ballistic feature points is measured by using the continuous wave radar. The parameters of feature points are extracted by the empirical mode decomposition method(EMD)of Hilbert-Huang transform(HHT)spectrum analysis technique. The radar echo signal model and EMD extraction model are established to analyze the exterior ballistic mutation point detection and EMD extraction method of aliasing echo signal.Typical feature point parameters of exterior ballistic in rocket flight tests are carried out and the effectiveness of the method is verified.A new method of measuring the parameters of exterior ballistic feature point is therefore presented.
文摘Target recognition performance can be affected by radar waveform parameters. In this paper,we established rigorous relationship between target recognition efficiency and the parameters of a repeatedly transmitted waveform. It is based on Kullback-Leibler Information Number of single observation(KLINs),which measures the dissimilarity between targets depicted by a range-velocity double spread density function in frequency domain. We considered two signal models which are different in the coherence of the observations. The method we proposed takes advantage of the methodology of sequential hypothesis test, and then the recognition performance in terms of correct classification rate is expressed by Receiver Operating Characteristic(ROC).Simulation results about the parameters of LFM signal show the validity of the method.

文摘This paper describes a novel target recognition scheme using High Range Resolution (HRR) radar signatures. AutoRegressive (AR) method is used to extract features from HRR radar echoes based on scattering center model of target. The optimal linear transformation based on Euclidian distribution distance criterion is performed on AR model parameter vectors to reduce dimension of feature vectors further and improve the class discrimination capability of feature vectors. The optimization algorithm is designed utilizing the quadratic property of criterion function and Gaussian kernel based Parzen window density function estimator. The concept of Stochastic Information Gradient (SIG) is incorporated into the gradient of cost function to decrease the computational complexity of the algorithm. Simulation results using three real airplanes, data show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
