This work aimed at revealing the mechanism of strong ground pressure behaviour(SGPB)induced by high-position hard roof(HHR).Based on the supporting structures model of HHR,a modified voussoir beam mechanical model for HHR was established by considering the gangue support coefficient, through which the modified expressions of limit breaking span and breaking energy of HHR were deduced.Combined with the relationship between the dynamic-static loading stress of supporting body(hydraulic support and coal wall)and its comprehensive supporting strength, the criteria of ground pressure behaviour(GPB)induced by HHR were discussed. The types of Ⅰ_(1),Ⅰ_(2),Ⅱ_(1),andⅡ_(2) of GPB were interpreted. Results showed that types Ⅰ_(1) and Ⅰ_(2) were the main forms of SGPB in extra-thick coal seam mining. The main manifestation of SGPB was static stress, which was mainly derived from the instability of HHR rather than fracture.Accordingly,an innovative control technology was proposed, which can weaken static load by vertical-well separated fracturing HHR.The research results have been successfully applied to the 8101 working face in Tashan coal mine,Shanxi Province,China. The results of a digital borehole camera observation and stress monitoring proved the rationality of the GPB criteria. The control technology was successful, paving the way for new possibilities to HHR control for safety mining. 展开更多

Dynamic disasters, such as rock burst due to the breaking of large area stiff roof strata, are known to occur in the hard rock strata of coal mines. In this paper, mechanical models of the fracturing processes of thick hard rock strata were established based on the thick plate theory and numerical simulations. The results demonstrated that, based on the fracture characteristics of the thick hard rock strata, four fracture models could be analyzed in detail, and the corresponding theoretical failure criteria were determined in detail. In addition, the influence of weak interlayer position on the fracture models and ground pressure of rock strata is deeply analyzed, and six numerical simulation schemes have been implemented. The results showed that the working face pressure caused by the independent movement of the lower layer is relatively low.The different fracture type of the thick hard rock strata had different demands on the working resistance of the hydraulic powered supports. The working resistance of the hydraulic powered supports required by the stratified movements was lower than that of the non-stratified movements. 展开更多

Due to high ground stress and mining disturbance, the deformation and failure of deep soft rock roadway is serious, and invalidation of the anchor net-anchor cable supporting structure occurs. The failure characteristics of roadways revealed with the help of the ground pressure monitoring. Theoretical analysis was adopted to analyze the influence of mining disturbance on stress distribution in surrounding rock, and the change of stress was also calculated. Considering the change of stress in surrounding rock of bottom extraction roadway, the displacement, plastic zone and distribution law of principal stress difference under different support schemes were studied by means of FLAC3D. The supporting scheme of U-shaped steel was proposed for bottom extraction roadway that underwent mining disturbance. We carried out a similarity model test to verify the effect of support in dynamic pressure. Monitoring results demonstrated the change rules of deformation and stress of surrounding rock in different supporting schemes. The supporting scheme of U-shaped steel had an effective control on deformation of surrounding rock. The scheme was successfully applied in underground engineering practice, and achieved good technical and economic benefits. 展开更多

This study proposes a novel approach to study stress field distribution and overlying ground pressure behavior in shallow seam mining in gully terrain. This approach combines numerical simulations and field tests based on the conditions of gully terrain in the Chuancao Gedan Mine. The effects of gully terrain on the in situ stress field of coal beds can be identified by the ratio of self-weight stress to vertical stress(η) at the location corresponding to the maximum vertical stress.Based on the function η =j(h),the effect of gully terrain on the stress field of overlying strata of the entire field can be characterized as a significantly affected area, moderately affected area,or non-affected area.Working face 6106 in the Chuancao Gedan Mine had a coal bed Jepth <80 m and was located in what was identified as a significantly affected area.Hence, mining may cause sliding of the gully slope and increased loading(including significant dynamic loading) on the roof strata.Field tests suggest that significant dynamic pressures were observed at the body and foot of the gully slope, and that dynamic loadings were observed upslope of the working face expansion, provided that the expanding direction of the working face is parallel to the gully. 展开更多

Previous mining excavation in upper sublevels left several mined-out areas in Haigou gold mine. To ensure safety of the main and auxiliary shafts and mining production in deeper sublevels, systematical studies on regularity, prediction, and control of ground pressure in the mine were carried out. Through 3D-numerical modeling and in-situ monitoring of acoustic emission, pressure and displacement, the ground pressure activity and the stability status of surrounding rock masses and the two shafts were assessed. Based on in-situ monitoring practice in Haigou mine,4 modes to judge rock stability according to the monitoring information of acoustic emission, pressure, and displacement were presented. 展开更多

Based on the conventional high-and low-altitude and surface observation data, the weather analysis and diagnosis methods were applied to analyze the cold wave process of Ulanqab in January 2016 from the aspects of weather reality, circulation background, weather causes, and forecast test. The results show that strong cold air accumulated gradually near Lake Baikal and Central Siberia, affecting the city in a northwest path.During the cold wave process, the transverse trough moved southwards slowly at 500 hPa,and the ground cold high pressure was strong and stable. The cold air continued to move southwards, resulting in the strong cold wave and gale weather with a large impact range and long duration. The high-altitude jet at 300 hPa strengthened the cold wave pile, which was conducive to the outbreak of the cold wave. The intensity and location changes of the 500 hPa positive vorticity center,850 hPa cold advection region and 24-h ground pressure variation well showed the intensity of the cold wave process and the variation of the affected region. The influence of strong cold advection, ground positive pressure variation, and strong vertical wind shear were the main reasons for a strong drop in temperature and gale weather in this process. The test results of prediction reveal that the forecast value of the maximum temperature were relatively lower than the actual value, while the forecast of the minimum temperature was more accurate. The three warning signals were issued timely and accurately. The circulation pattern predicted by numerical models was more accurate in the early stage of the process, but there was an error in the late stage, and the forecast system moved slower than the actual situation. 展开更多

No.4326 super-wide panel of Wangzhuang Coal Mine ( in which the fully-mechanized top-coal caving longwall mining method was used) was monitored for dynamic characteristic of surface movement. The dynamic surface movement in and after mining was predicted by using the Mining Subsidence Prediction System. The results indicate that after mining, the surface above the super-wide panel reaches a state of full subsidence, making the No.309 national highway above the panel be located on the flat bottom of the subsidence basin so that the influence of mining activity in both sides of 4326 panel on the national highway is the smallest. 展开更多

The four diversion tunnels at Jinping Ⅱ hydropower station represent the deepest underground project yet conducted in China, with an overburden depth of 1500-2000 m and a maximum depth of 2525 m.The tunnel structure was subjected to a maximum external water pressure of 10.22 MPa and the maximum single-point groundwater inflow of 7.3 m^3/s. The success of the project construction was related to numerous challenging issues such as the stability of the rock mass surrounding the deep tunnels, strong rockburst prevention and control, and the treatment of high-pressure, large-volume groundwater infiltration. During the construction period, a series of new technologies was developed for the purpose of risk control in the deep tunnel project. Nondestructive sampling and in-situ measurement technologies were employed to fully characterize the formation and development of excavation damaged zones(EDZs), and to evaluate the mechanical behaviors of deep rocks. The time effect of marble fracture propagation, the brittleeductileeplastic transition of marble, and the temporal development of rock mass fracture and damage induced by high geostress were characterized. The safe construction of deep tunnels was achieved under a high risk of strong rockburst using active measures, a support system comprised of lining, grouting, and external water pressure reduction techniques that addressed the coupled effect of high geostress, high external water pressure, and a comprehensive early-warning system. A complete set of technologies for the treatment of high-pressure and large-volume groundwater infiltration was developed. Monitoring results indicated that the Jinping II hydropower station has been generally stable since it was put into operation in 2014. 展开更多

Grounded ship faces up exceptionally different stability forces unlike in her normal operating condition. This critical situation must be corrected as soon as can minimize hull stress, the risk of pollution and stability failure. Re-floating the ship need full understanding of the impact of ground reaction (R) on the ship buoyancy and stability. Re-floating the ship has different phases and there are several immediate actions that should be taken by ship's crew; one of these phases is re-calculation of ship stability conditions. In this paper, a guide to understanding the effect of the ground reaction (R), determines the amount of ground pressure and its location. With consideration of the seabed form whether symmetric of asymmetric. A hydro tunnel in Serbia's capitol Belgrade is currently constructed using EPB TBM (earth pressure balance tunneling machine). To assess the risk of TBM jamming, an analysis is made including calculation of expected ground pressures on the machine and critical frictions and pressures along the route, which could stop the advance due to limitations of the machine. The ground pressures were calculated using 2D plain strain analytical and numerical methods, and using 2D+ plain strain axisymmetrical numerical method to simulate effects of TBM advance, effects of deformations in front of TBM and effects of rigidity changes in area of TBM shield tail where ground abruptly looses contact with the shield and could additionally deform toward the concrete liner. Calculated deformations and stresses varied along the TBM and concrete liner, with prominent concentrations around the cutter head and TBM shield tail. The results of analytical and numerical calculations were compared and combined to construct diagrams of expected ground pressures on TBM along the tunnel route, and diagrams of critical frictions that may cause the jamming. Based on this analysis and ongoing measurements of ground pressures on TBM, recommendations have been made on excavation regimes, and additional investigations in front of TBM. So far a relatively fair match of the predicted and measured ground pressures on TBM is observed. 展开更多

Vacuum well point is a new but faint soft ground treatment method. This work focuses on the consolidation behavior of a reconstituted soft clayey specimen under vacuum well point combined with surcharge loading. The laboratory test was conducted through a vacuum-surcharge consolidation apparatus, and the vacuum loading scheme was adopted for vacuum pressure application to investigate the vacuum effect on soil consolidation. In the testing process, some key parameters such as vacuum pressure, pore water pressure and settlement deformation were timely recorded. Furthermore, the water content, void ratio and permeability coefficient of samples collected after loading were measured to reflect the consolidation characteristics. By comparing with the membrane system and membraneless system, something different was found for the vacuum well point method. The results indicate that the consolidation behavior of an axisymmetric single vacuum well point is almost identical to the behavior of vacuum preloading combined with prefabricated vertical drain(PVD), except for the distribution of the vacuum pressure along the well drain due to the structure of the vacuum well point. And the vacuum well point method may be useful for the improvement of soft clayey deposit in a certain depth. 展开更多
