The effect of contact time, initial metal ion concentration and temperature on metal ions removal has been studied. The equilibrium time was found to be of the order of 60 min. Kinetics fit pseudo first-order, second-order and intraparticle diffusion models, hence adsorption rate constants were calculated. The adsorption data of metal ions at temperatures of 25, 45 and 60~C have been described by the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. The thermodynamic parameters such as energy, entropy and enthalpy changes for the adsorption of heavy metal ions have also been computed and discussed. Ion exchange is probably one of the major adsorption mechanisms for binding divalent metal ions to the walnut sawdust. The selectivity order of the adsorbent is Pb(I1)~Cd(II)〉Ni(I1). From these results, it can be concluded that the sawdust of walnut could be a good adsorbent for the metal ions from aqueous solutions.展开更多

In the present work,a green and low-cost adsorbent of g-C_3N_4 nanosheets was developed with superior capacity for both cationic and anionic heavy metals. The adsorbent was easily fabricated through one-step calcination of guanidine hydrochloride with thickness less than 1.6 nm and specific surface area of 111.2 m^2·g^(-1). Kinetic and isotherm studies suggest that the adsorption is an endothermic chemisorption process, occurring on the energetically heterogeneous surface based on a hybrid mechanism of multilayer and monolayer adsorption. The tri-s-triazine units and surface N-containing groups of g-C_3N_4 nanosheets are proposed to be responsible for the adsorption process.Further study on pH demonstrates that electrostatic interaction plays an important role. The maximum adsorption capacity of Cd(II), Pb(II), and Cr(VI) on g-C_3N_4 nanosheets is 123.205 mg·g^(-1), 136.571 mg·g^(-1),and 684.451 mg·g^(-1), respectively. The better adsorption performance of the adsorbent than that of the recently reported nanomaterials and low-cost adsorbents proves its great application potential in the removal of heavy metal contaminants from wastewater. The present paper developed a promising adsorbent which will certainly find applications in wastewater treatment and also provides guiding significance in designing adsorption processes.展开更多

Having the advantages of low cost raw material, big adsorbing capacity, no secondary pollution, etc., algae may be used to treat industrial water containing heavy metals. The adsorption processes were carried out in two steps: rapid physical adsorption first, and then slow chemical adsorption. pH is the major factor influencing the adsorption. The Freundlich equation fitted very well the adsorption isotherms. The uptake decreased with increasing ionic strength. The principal mechanism of metallic cation sequestration involves the formation of complexes between a metal ion and functional groups on the surface or inside the porous structure of the biological material. The carboxyl groups of alginate play a major role in the complexation. Different species of algae and the algae of the same species may have different adsorption capacity. Their selection affinity for heavy metals was the major criterion for the screening of a biologic adsorbent to be used in water treatment. The surface complex formation model (SCFM) can solve the equilibrium and kinetic problems in the biosorption.展开更多

Therefore, their selective retention and competitive adsorption by the soils become of major importance in determining their availability and movement throughout the soil. In this study, the availability and mobility of six heavy metals in eight urban soils collected from different cities of Zhejiang Province, southeastern China were assessed using distribution coefficients(Kd) and retardation factor(Rf). The results showed that there were great differences in the Kd and Rfamong the tested soils. The adsorption sequences were Cr〉Pb〉Cu〉Cd〉Zn〉Ni, and the Kd decreased with increasing levels of metal addition. Ni generally has the lowest Rf values followed closely by Cd, and Zn whereas Cr and Pb reached the highest values. The results suggest that Ni and Zn have the highest mobility associated to the lowest adsorption, Cr and Pb present the opposite behavior. Correlation analysis indicates that soil pH, CaCO3 content, and cation exchange capacity (CEC) are key factors controlling the solubility and mobility of the metals in the urban soils.展开更多

The amount of metal adsorbed to form monolayer on sand(a_m), obtained from Langmuir isotherm, exhibited the preference of metals for sand in the order Pb>Cr>Cu>Zn. The heavy metal-sand adsorption phenomena can be illustrated on the basis of the interaction between surface functional group of silicates (sand) and the metal ions. It is deduced that sand can be used as a low cost adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal from wastewater (containing low conc. of metals), especially in the developing countries.展开更多

The bamboo was cut, washed and dried. It was carbonized between 350℃ - 500℃, and activated at 800℃ using nitric acid. Simultaneous batch adsorption of different heavy metal ions (Cd2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, Cr3+, Cu2+ and Zn2+) in same aqueous solution using activated carbon from Nigerian bamboo was carried out. The adsorption process had a better fit for the Freundlich, Temkin isotherm and Dubinin-Radushke-vich (DRK) isotherm models but could not fit well into Langmuir isotherm. Adsorption isotherms showed that there is competition among various metals for adsorption sites on Nigerian bamboo. The DRK model was used to determine the nature of the sorption process and was found to be physical and chemical, with sorption energy of metal ions ranging from (7 - 10 kJ/mol). The adsorption of Cd2+, Zn2+, Pb2+ and Ni2+ ions was chemisorptions and that of Cu2+ and Cr3+ ions was cooperative adsorption. Therefore, this study revealed that Nigerian bamboo can serve as a good source of activated carbon with multiple and simultaneous metalions—removing potentials and may serve as a better replacement for commercial activated carbons in applications that warrant their use.展开更多

Through the selective adsorption experiment of Ca\|montmorillonite, illite and kaolinite to Cu\+\{2+\}, Pb\+\{2+\}, Zn\+\{2+\}, Cd\+\{2+\} and Cr\+\{3+\} ions at certain conditions, it could be concluded that Cr\+\{3+\} is most effectively sorbed by all the three minerals. Also, it can be found that Pb\+\{2+\} shows a strong affinity for illite and kaolinite while Cu\+\{2+\} for montmorillonite. Based on the adsorption experiment at varying pH of solution, it can be found that the amount of heavy metals sorbed by minerals increases with increasing pH of the solution.展开更多

The saturated adsorption capacity of ammonium and the affection factors of adsorption of Cu^2+, Pb^2+ and Zn^2+ are discussed on the basis of the mineralogical characteristics of the industrial vermiculite samples. The saturated adsorption capacities of ammonium are between 56.02 and 98.42 mmol/100g. The time of adsorption equilibrium is about 30-60 min, and the pH values and concentration of the ion solution significantly affect the adsorption capacities of the heavy metal ions. The adsorption capabilities of the heavy metal ions on industrial vermiculite are almost the same in the low ion concentration solutions, characterized by a sequence of Zn^2+〉Pb^2+〉Cu^2+ for adsorption capacity in solutions with relatively high ion concentration. The results have practical significance for the application of the industrial vermiculite to treating wastewater containing ammonium or heavy metal ions.展开更多

In this work, we evaluated the heavy metals adsorption characteristics of alkali treated sewage sludge (ATSS) by equilibrium studies. The adsorption isotherms were fitted with Langmuir and Freundlich models. Comparing with untreated sewage sludge, the total adsorption capacity (qm) of ATSS (prepared with 0.125 mol/L NaOH) for Cd, Pb, Ni, increased by 0.51, 0.70 and 0.32 mmol/g, respectively. When the NaOH concentration for ATSS preparation increased from 0.125 mol/L to 0.25 mol/L, the qm of ATSS for Pb decreased from 1.05 mmol/g to 0.84 mmol/g. However, when the NaOH concentration increased from 0.25 mol/L to 7.5 mol/L, it showed increasing trend. According to the IR spectra data, the adsorption effect of biosorbent for heavy metals was mainly due to the complexation of -N-H groups and -COOH groups.展开更多

It is deduced that sand can be used as a low cost adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal from wastewater (containing low conc. of metals), especially in the developing countries.
文摘Sorption characteristics of multiple adsorption of six heavy metal ions often found in refinery waste waters using activated carbon from Nigerian bamboo was investigated. Therefore, this study revealed that Nigerian bamboo can serve as a good source of activated carbon with multiple and simultaneous metalions—removing potentials and may serve as a better replacement for commercial activated carbons in applications that warrant their use.
文摘The interaction between minerals and heavy metals has been a hot object of study in environmental science, mineralogy and soil science. Based on the adsorption experiment at varying pH of solution, it can be found that the amount of heavy metals sorbed by minerals increases with increasing pH of the solution.

文摘To maximize the potential of monolayer molybdenum disulfide(MoS2)sheet in the disposal of heavy metal ions in wastewater,we compared the adsorption of several common heavy metal ions(including Cr^(3+),Ni^(2+),Cu^(2+),Zn^(2+),Cd^(2+),Hg^(2+),and Pb^(2+))in wastewater on the monolayer MoS2 sheet through first-principles calculation. Our simulation results show that the monolayer MoS2 sheet is a potential heavy metal adsorption material because of the attractive interaction between them. The most negative adsorption energy determines that the TMo site is the most stable adsorption site for the heavy metal ions. The attractive interaction is considered as chemical adsorption, and it is closely related to charge transfer. The orbital hybridization between S p and heavy metal ions p and d states electrons contributes to the adsorption, except the orbital hybridization between S p and Pb p states electrons contributes to the Pb^(2+) adsorption. All the results show that the monolayer MoS2 sheet is most suitable for removing Ni^(2+) and Cr^(3+) ions from wastewater, followed by Cu^(2+) and Pb^(2+).For the ions Cd^(2+),Zn^(2+),and Hg^(2+),its adsorption strength remains to be improved.

文摘Gibbs free binding energy and adsorption energy between cations and charged soil particles were used to evaluate the interactions between ions and soil particles. The distribution of Gibbs free adsorption energies could not be determined experimentally before the development of Wien effect measurements in dilute soil suspensions. In the current study, energy relationships between heavy metal ions and particles of Hapli-Udic Argosol(Alfisol)and Ferri-Udic Argosol were inferred from Wien effect measurements in dilute suspensions of homoionic soil particles(<2μm)of the two soils, which were saturated with ions of five heavy metals,in deionized water. The mean Gibbs free binding energies of the heavy metal ions with Hapli-Udic Argosol and Ferri-Udic Argosol particles diminished in the order of Pb^(2+)>Cd^(2+)>Cu^(2+)>Zn^(2+)>Cr^(3+),where the range of binding energies for Hapli-Udic Argosol(7.25-9.32 kJ mol^(-1))was similar to that for Ferri-Udic Argosol(7.43-9.35 kJ mol^(-1)).The electrical field-dependent mean Gibbs free adsorption energies of these heavy metal ions for Hapli-Udic Argosol and for Ferri-Udic Argosol descended in the order:Cu^(2+)≥Cd^(2+)≥Pb^(2+)>Zn^(2+)>Cr^(3+), and Cd^(2+)>Cu^(2+)>Pb^(2+)>Zn^(2+)>Cr^(3+),respectively.The mean Gibbs free adsorption energies of Cu^(2+),Zn^(2+),Cd^(2+), Pb^(2+),and Cr^(3+)at a field strength of 200 kV cm^(-1),for example, were in the range of 0.8-3.2 kJ mol^(-1)for the two soils.

文摘Wool keratin(WK)and silk sericin(SS)have the ability to interact with metal ions.In order to take advantage of this potential,a novel environmentally friendly waterborne polyurethane(WPU)/WK/SS membrane named as WPU&WK&SS membrane with crosslinked structure was constructed by freeze-drying via self-assembly style.Surface morphology and chemical structure characterization were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).In addition, the adsorption experiments of Cu2+and Cr6+were performed to evaluate the adsorption of WPU&WK&SS membrane, including adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherm models and various factors affecting adsorption.Further investigation indicates that the maximum adsorption capacity of Cu2+and Cr6+can reach 54.21 mg·g-1and 85.21 mg·g-1,respectively,which are higher than most of the reported adsorbents.Through adsorption kinetics and thermodynamic analysis,it is find that the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model are more suitable for the static adsorption of Cu2+and Cr6+by WPU&WK&SS membrane.
文摘The silicate colloids with an average diameter 100 nm, were prepared by the hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane (TES), NH4OH (30%) and then modified by (3-mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane ( APS). The colloids can adsorb heavy metals such as Pb and Cr in effluent and after adsorption the colloids can be separated by coagulation of aluminum sulfate. The removal of heavy metals is up to 99%.

文摘The present work discusses the mineralogy, saturated adsorption of ammonium and adsorption of heavy metal ions (Cu^2+, Pb^2+ and Zn^2+) on industrial vermiculite samples from the Yuli Mine in Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The results have practical significance for the application of the industrial vermiculite to treating wastewater containing ammonium or heavy metal ions.
文摘The frontier orbital energies of montmorillonite molecule and[Me(H_(2)O)_(6)]^(2+)(Me=Cu^(2+),Zn^(2+),Co^(2+)and Ni^(2+))were calculated by INDO method. Results showed that the chemical interaction between montmorillonite molecule and[Cu(H_(2)O)_(6)]^(2+)or[Zn(H_(2)O)_(6)]^(2+)was possible. The experimental results of powder X-ray diffraction and isothermal adsorption supported the above-mentioned calculation results.
文摘Sewage sludge is the promising raw material for biosorbent preparation. According to the IR spectra data, the adsorption effect of biosorbent for heavy metals was mainly due to the complexation of -N-H groups and -COOH groups.
