As compared with normal cells, cancer cells or malignant cells were morphologically abnor-mal : their contact inhibition and normal growth order were lost, the DNA content and ploid increased and suchkind of cells were transplantable. It the malignancy should be decreased or the malignant cells reversed, theabove abnormal changes could be reduced or disappear. BALB/c mice bearing ascites liver cancer wereused, Chinese herbal prescription combined with copper and ferrum (CHPCCF) was given by gavage for 10days, and then some cell-biological parameters were measured; further , the ascites cancer cells (controland treatment) were removed and retransptanted to another mice and observed. The results showed that inCHPCCF treatment group, DNA content of the cancer cells was decreased, and the proliferation index wasreduced (control : 83 . 4 ± 2 . 6, CHPCCF group : 78. 8 ± 1 . 5 ; or control : 67. 2 ± 1 . 3 , CHPCCF group : 64. 2 ±l . 6, P < 0. 02) , the number of the cancer cells in Gl phase increased obviously, but, those of S + G2Mphases decreased ( P < 0. 05 ̄ 0. 01 ) ; on the DNA histogram, the diploid peak became higher and bigger, but aneuploid or multiploid peaks became smaller. Furthermore, retransplanted experiments showed that in2/10 animals, the tumors did not grow, and in other 8/10 animals , the tumors grew, but the tumors' sizewere smaller than that of the control ; the growth inhibition rate was 71 . 7% ̄ 88. 3% ; and tumors ' grewslowly ; the growth curve of the tumors in CHPCCF group was considerably lower than that of the control ; thesurvival period of retransplanted animals was prolonged significantly (from 26. 1 ± 11 . 8 to 38. 1 ± 9. 6, or to39 . 6 ± 7 . 2 days, P<0 . 01 ); the increase in life span was 46% and 52% respectively. The results suggestedthat CHPCCF could reduce the malignancy of mice liver cancer cells. 展开更多

Ten cases of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) were treated for 4 weeks by acupuncture, Chinese herbs and diet precautions. Diagnosis of CFS was determined by conventional medicine criteria(CDC criteria for CFS), physical examination, and routine laboratory tests. TCM diagnosis of CFS relied on Four Examination Methods and Eight Principal Patterns. They were diagnosed as Ganyu Qizhi (liver and qi stagnation) and Pixu Qiruo (spleen and qi deficiency). The treatment method is to disperse the liver and facilitate qi, rehabilitate the spleen and strengthen qi (Shugan Liqi, Jianpi Yiqi). The result of the treatment indicated that the total effective rate was 100% in terms of fatigue, difficulty concentrating, headache, sore throat, muscle pain, joint aches, feverishness, rapid pulse, insomnia, depression, irregular menses, abdominal cramps, and night sweats. The percentages of specific symptoms of CFS in the patients were comparable to the conventional medical record (Table 1). 展开更多

Objective: To obtain fundamental information for the standardization of herbal medicine in Korea. Methods: We analyzed the herbal medicine prescription data of patients at the Pusan National University Korean Medicine Hospital from March 2010 to February 2013. We used the Dongui-Bogam (Dong Yi Bao Jian) to classify prescribed herbal medicines. Results: The study revealed that the most frequently prescribed herbal medicine was ‘Liuwei Dihuang Pill (LWDHP, 六味地黄丸)' which was used for invigorating ‘Shen (Kidndy)-yin'. ‘LWDHP' was most frequently prescribed to male patients aged 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80-89 years, and ‘Xionggui Tiaoxue Decoction (XGTXD, 芎归调血饮)' was most frequently prescribed to female patients aged 30-39 and 40-49 years. According to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes,‘Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue' showed the highest prevalence. ‘LWDHP' and 'XGTXD' was the most frequently prescribed in categories 5 and 3, respectively. Based on the percentage of prescriptions for each sex, ‘Ziyin Jianghuo Decoction (滋阴降火汤)' was prescribed to mainly male patients, and ‘XGTXD' with ‘Guima Geban Decoction (桂麻各半汤)' were prescribed to mainly female patients. Conclusion: This study analysis successfully determined the frequency of a variety of herbal medicines, and many restorative herbal medicines were identified and frequently administered. 展开更多

Objective: To study Chinese herbal prescription for treatment of eczema on the basis of the suppressive effect of Chinese herbal medicine with type Ⅳ allergic reaction. Methods: Various formulae composed of Chinese herbal medicines possessing suppressive effect on murine allergic contact dermatitis were formed following the therapeutic principles of traditional Chinese medicine in treating eczema, and their effect on ear swelling, ear flake weight, dermal inflammatory infiltration cell count and plasma level of calcitonin gene related peptide ( CGRP) were examined in mice with dinitrofluorobenzene induced dermatitis. The prescription, Composite Poria Decoction was formulated and made into granule form, which was used to treat 63 cases of eczema (atopic dermatitis was excluded), and compared with 59 cases treated with antihistaminic that was aimed at the type I allergic reaction. Results: Experimental study showed that all the 4 Chinese prescriptions had the effect of anti type Ⅳ allergic reaction, among them, the formula for cooling blood and removing Heat, Wind and Dampness evil possessed the most potent effect in suppressing murine dermatitis, and it was also able to up regulate the plasma CGRP concentration. The clinical cure rate of Composite Poria Granule treatment was 47.6%, and that of the control was 22.0%. The difference was significant between the two groups ( u =2.9555, P <0.01). Conclusions: Chinese herbal medicine has the effect of anti type Ⅳ allergic reaction. Composite Poria Granule has good effect in treating eczema. 展开更多

As a computer-assisted approach, molecular docking has been universally applied in drug research and development and plays an important role in the investigation and evaluation of herbal medicines. Herein, the method was used to estimate the pharmacodynamics of Mai-Luo-Ning injection, a traditional Chinese compound herbal prescription. Through investigating the interactions between several important proteins in cardiovascular system and characteristic components of the formula, its effect on cardiovascular protection was evaluated. Results showed the differences in the interactions between each component and the selected target proteins and revealed the possible mechanisms for synergistic effects of various characteristic components on cardiovascular protection. The study provided scientific evidence supporting the mechanistic study of the interactions among multi-components and targets, offering a general approach to investigating the pharmacodynamics of complicated materials in compound herbal prescriptions. 展开更多
