Electromagnetic interference (EMI) faults in signaling equipment may cause transportationinterruptions, delays and even threaten the safety of train operations. Exploring the impact of disturbances onsignaling equipment and establishing evaluation methods for the correlation between EMI and safety isurgently needed.Design/methodology/approach – This paper elaborates on the necessity and significance of studying theimpact of EMI as an unavoidable and widespread risk factor in the external environment of high-speed railwayoperations and continuous development. The current status of research methods and achievements from theperspectives of standard systems, reliability analysis and safety assessment are examined layer by layer.Additionally, it provides prospects for innovative ideas for exploring the quantitative correlation between EMIand signaling safety.Findings – Despite certain innovative achievements in both domestic and international standard systems andrelated research for ensuring and evaluating railway signaling safety, there’s a lack of quantitative and strategic research on the degradation of safety performance in signaling equipment due to EMI. A quantitativecorrelation between EMI and safety has yet to be established. On this basis, this paper proposes considerationsfor research methods pertaining to the correlation between EMI and safety.Originality/value – This paper overviews a series of methods and outcomes derived from domestic andinternational studies regarding railway signaling safety, encompassing standard systems, reliability analysisand safety assessment. The system is investigated in chip selection, signal transmission, signal processing, signal storage, post-production PCB design, etc. The appropriate measures and solutions which affect the integrity and accuracy of the signal in each process are proposed. How to use these data to assess the storage reliability (SR) of the whole missile is a difficult problem in current research. An SR assessment model based on competition failure of multi-components in missile is proposed. By analyzing the missile life profile and its storage failure feature, the key components in missile are obtained and the characteristics voltage is assumed to be its key performance parameter. When the voltage testing data of key components in missile are available, a state space model (SSM) is applied to obtain the whole missile degradation state, which is defined as the missile degradation degree (DD). A Wiener process with the time-scale model (TSM) is applied to build the degradation failure model with individual variability and nonlinearity. The Weibull distribution and proportional risk model are applied to build an outburst failure model with performance degradation effect. Furthermore, a competition failure model with the correlation between degradation failure and outburst failure is proposed. A numerical example with a set of missiles in storage is analyzed to demonstrate the accuracy and superiority of the proposed model.展开更多

The explosive initiator is one kind of sensitivity products with long life and high reliability.In order to improve the storage reliability assessment,the method of storage reliability assessment for explosive initiat...The explosive initiator is one kind of sensitivity products with long life and high reliability.In order to improve the storage reliability assessment,the method of storage reliability assessment for explosive initiator was proposed based on time series model using the sensitivity test data.In the method,the up and down test was used to estimate the distribution parameters of threshold.And an approach to design the up and down test was present to draw better estimations.Furthermore,the method of shrinkage estimation was introduced to get a better estimation of scale parameter by combining the sample information with prior information.The simulation result shows that the shrinkage estimation is better than traditional estimation under certain conditions.With the distribution parameters estimations,the time series models were used to describe the changing trends of distribution parameters along with storage time.Then for a fixed storage time,the distribution parameters were predicted based on the models.Finally,the confidence interval of storage reliability was obtained by fiducial inference.The illustrative example shows that the method is available for storage reliability assessment of the explosive initiator with high reliability.展开更多
Distributed energy resources have been proven to be an effective and promising solution to enhance power system resilience and improve household-level reliability.In this paper,we propose a method to evaluate the reli...Distributed energy resources have been proven to be an effective and promising solution to enhance power system resilience and improve household-level reliability.In this paper,we propose a method to evaluate the reliability value of a photovoltaic(PV)energy system with a battery storage system(BSS)by considering the probability of grid outages causing household blackouts.Considering this reliability value,which is the economic profit and capital cost of PV+BSS,a simple formula is derived to calculate the optimal planning strategy.This strategy can provide household-level customers with a simple and straightforward expression for invested PV+BSS capacity.Case studies on 600 households located in eight zones of the US for the period of 2006 to 2015 demonstrate that adding the reliability value to economic profit allows households to invest in a larger PV+BSS and avoid loss of load caused by blackouts.Owing to the differences in blackout hours,households from the 8 zones express distinct willingness to install PV+BSS.The greater the probability of blackout,the greater revenue that household can get from the PV+BSS.The simulation example shows that the planning strategy obtained by proposed model has good economy in the actual operation and able to reduce the economic risk of power failure of the household users.This model can provide household with an easy and straightforward investment strategy of PV+BSS capacity.展开更多

Ob-jectives: We aimed to analyze the usefulness of DBS samples for diagnosis of 4 LSDs, with the availability of a large quantity of patient samples. Design and methods: Blood samples from previously diagnosed patients with Fabry, Gaucher, Hunter, and Maro-teaux-Lamy syndromes and normal control individ-uals, were collected and dispen-sed in filter paper, and used for enzymatic activity determination. Results: Diagnosis of hemi/homo-zygous patients with Fabry, Hunter and Maroteaux-Lamy diseases using DBS samples showed ideal parameters of 100% sensitivity and specificity. DBS assay for Gaucher disease would need a posterior confirmatory step. Conclusions: Leukocyte measu-rement is the only reliable way to diagnose Gaucher disease. For Hunter, Fabry and Maroteaux-Lamy disorders discrimination between patients and controls seems adequate by DBS.展开更多

In the era of big data,sensor networks have been pervasively deployed,producing a large amount of data for various applications.However,because sensor networks are usually placed in hostile environments,managing the h...In the era of big data,sensor networks have been pervasively deployed,producing a large amount of data for various applications.However,because sensor networks are usually placed in hostile environments,managing the huge volume of data is a very challenging issue.In this study,we mainly focus on the data storage reliability problem in heterogeneous wireless sensor networks where robust storage nodes are deployed in sensor networks and data redundancy is utilized through coding techniques.To minimize data delivery and data storage costs,we design an algorithm to jointly optimize data routing and storage node deployment.The problem can be formulated as a binary nonlinear combinatorial optimization problem,and due to its NP-hardness,designing approximation algorithms is highly nontrivial.By leveraging the Markov approximation framework,we elaborately design an efficient algorithm driven by a continuous-time Markov chain to schedule the deployment of the storage node and corresponding routing strategy.We also perform extensive simulations to verify the efficacy of our algorithm.展开更多
Distributed key value storage systems are among the most important types of distributed storage systems currently deployed in data centers. Nowadays, enterprise data centers are facing growing pressure in reducing the...Distributed key value storage systems are among the most important types of distributed storage systems currently deployed in data centers. Nowadays, enterprise data centers are facing growing pressure in reducing their power consumption. In this paper, we propose GreenCHT, a reliable power management scheme for consistent hashing based distributed key value storage systems. It consists of a multi-tier replication scheme, a reliable distributed log store, and a predictive power mode scheduler (PMS). Instead of randomly placing replicas of each object on a number of nodes in the consistent hash ring, we arrange the replicas of objects on nonoverlapping tiers of nodes in the ring. This allows the system to fall in various power modes by powering down subsets of servers while not violating data availability. The predictive PMS predicts workloads and adapts to load fluctuation. It cooperates with the multi-tier replication strategy to provide power proportionality for the system. To ensure that the reliability of the system is maintained when replicas are powered down, we distribute the writes to standby replicas to active servers, which ensures failure tolerance of the system. GreenCHT is implemented based on Sheepdog, a distributed key value storage system that uses consistent hashing as an underlying distributed hash table. By replaying 12 typical real workload traces collected from Microsoft, the evaluation results show that GreenCHT can provide significant power savings while maintaining a desired performance. We observe that GreenCHT can reduce power consumption by up to 35%-61%.展开更多

Fatman is specifica...We present Fatman, an enterprise-scale archival storage based on volunteer contribution resources from underutilized web servers, usually deployed on thousands of nodes with spare storage capacity. Fatman is specifically designed for enhancing the utilization of existing storage resources and cutting down the hardware purchase cost. Two major concerned issues of the system design are maximizing the resource utilization of volunteer nodes without violating service level objectives (SLOs) and minimizing the cost without reducing the availability of archival system. Fatman has been widely deployed on tens of thousands of server nodes across several datacenters, providing more than 100 PB storage capacity and serving dozens of internal mass-data applications. The system realizes an efficient storage quota consolidation by strong isolation and budget limitation, to maximally support resource contribution without any degradation on host-level SLOs. It novelly improves data reliability by applying disk failure prediction to minish failure recovery cost, named fault-aware data management, dramatically reduces the mean time to repair (MTTR) by 76.3% and decreases file crash ratio by 35% on real-life product workload.展开更多

However, since n...In modern energy-saving replication storage systems, a primary group of disks is always powered up to serve incoming requests while other disks are often spun down to save energy during slack periods. However, since new writes cannot be immediately synchronized into all disks, system reliability is degraded. In this paper, we develop a high-reliability and energy-efficient replication storage system, named RERAID, based on RAID10. RERAID employs part of the free space in the primary disk group and uses erasure coding to construct a code cache at the front end to absorb new writes. Since code cache supports failure recovery of two or more disks by using erasure coding, RERAID guarantees a reliability comparable with that of the RAID10 storage system. In addition, we develop an algorithm, called erasure coding write (ECW), to buffer many small random writes into a few large writes, which are then written to the code cache in a parallel fashion sequentially to improve the write performance. Experimental results show that RERAID significantly improves write performance and saves more energy than existing solutions.展开更多

文摘In the era of big data,sensor networks have been pervasively deployed,producing a large amount of data for various applications.However,because sensor networks are usually placed in hostile environments,managing the huge volume of data is a very challenging issue.In this study,we mainly focus on the data storage reliability problem in heterogeneous wireless sensor networks where robust storage nodes are deployed in sensor networks and data redundancy is utilized through coding techniques.To minimize data delivery and data storage costs,we design an algorithm to jointly optimize data routing and storage node deployment.The problem can be formulated as a binary nonlinear combinatorial optimization problem,and due to its NP-hardness,designing approximation algorithms is highly nontrivial.By leveraging the Markov approximation framework,we elaborately design an efficient algorithm driven by a continuous-time Markov chain to schedule the deployment of the storage node and corresponding routing strategy.We also perform extensive simulations to verify the efficacy of our algorithm.
文摘Distributed key value storage systems are among the most important types of distributed storage systems currently deployed in data centers. Nowadays, enterprise data centers are facing growing pressure in reducing their power consumption. In this paper, we propose GreenCHT, a reliable power management scheme for consistent hashing based distributed key value storage systems. It consists of a multi-tier replication scheme, a reliable distributed log store, and a predictive power mode scheduler (PMS). Instead of randomly placing replicas of each object on a number of nodes in the consistent hash ring, we arrange the replicas of objects on nonoverlapping tiers of nodes in the ring. This allows the system to fall in various power modes by powering down subsets of servers while not violating data availability. The predictive PMS predicts workloads and adapts to load fluctuation. It cooperates with the multi-tier replication strategy to provide power proportionality for the system. To ensure that the reliability of the system is maintained when replicas are powered down, we distribute the writes to standby replicas to active servers, which ensures failure tolerance of the system. GreenCHT is implemented based on Sheepdog, a distributed key value storage system that uses consistent hashing as an underlying distributed hash table. By replaying 12 typical real workload traces collected from Microsoft, the evaluation results show that GreenCHT can provide significant power savings while maintaining a desired performance. We observe that GreenCHT can reduce power consumption by up to 35%-61%.
文摘We present Fatman, an enterprise-scale archival storage based on volunteer contribution resources from underutilized web servers, usually deployed on thousands of nodes with spare storage capacity. Fatman is specifically designed for enhancing the utilization of existing storage resources and cutting down the hardware purchase cost. Two major concerned issues of the system design are maximizing the resource utilization of volunteer nodes without violating service level objectives (SLOs) and minimizing the cost without reducing the availability of archival system. Fatman has been widely deployed on tens of thousands of server nodes across several datacenters, providing more than 100 PB storage capacity and serving dozens of internal mass-data applications. The system realizes an efficient storage quota consolidation by strong isolation and budget limitation, to maximally support resource contribution without any degradation on host-level SLOs. It novelly improves data reliability by applying disk failure prediction to minish failure recovery cost, named fault-aware data management, dramatically reduces the mean time to repair (MTTR) by 76.3% and decreases file crash ratio by 35% on real-life product workload.

文摘In modern energy-saving replication storage systems, a primary group of disks is always powered up to serve incoming requests while other disks are often spun down to save energy during slack periods. However, since new writes cannot be immediately synchronized into all disks, system reliability is degraded. In this paper, we develop a high-reliability and energy-efficient replication storage system, named RERAID, based on RAID10. RERAID employs part of the free space in the primary disk group and uses erasure coding to construct a code cache at the front end to absorb new writes. Since code cache supports failure recovery of two or more disks by using erasure coding, RERAID guarantees a reliability comparable with that of the RAID10 storage system. In addition, we develop an algorithm, called erasure coding write (ECW), to buffer many small random writes into a few large writes, which are then written to the code cache in a parallel fashion sequentially to improve the write performance. Experimental results show that RERAID significantly improves write performance and saves more energy than existing solutions.
