Transportation plays a vital role both in urban economy and usuallives, which is recognized as one of the major functions of a city, along with dwelling, work, and recreation. As an organic system, urban traffic has attracted increased attention during recent years. However, the majority of studies focused on roadways and vehicular technologies, and limited research has been conducted to address the driver characteristics and their impact. A major possible reason is the scarcity of reliable data. In fact, traditional traffic data obtained from cross-sectional detectors as well as video capture devices are not sufficient to fully capture driver behavior. Only in the recent years, with the availability of transportation-related "big data" and particu- larly the overwhelming information onboard and from road- side facilities, the impacts of driver behavior may be investigated in more detail. In general, driver behavior in microscopic level may include car-following, lane-changing, and gap acceptance models, which are believed largely to affect roadway capacity. Furthermore, safety concerns especially when drivingin an urban environment due to the interaction of different modes, also increase the complexity of quantifying the quality of service of various transportation facilities. These potential complexities in driver behavior challenge academia to develop supporting models and methods of analysis. 展开更多

Carbon monoxide(CO)is harmful to our health, and even causes death. The main source of CO is automobile exhaust. Therefore, this article determines that CO is the emission factor, and finally the evaluation model is established. The model provides an important basis for the highway construction project design, traffic management, environmental pollution control, energy saving, environmental evaluation and so on.Compared with the traditional method that calculates the road traffic volume through the air emissions model, according to the total amount of air pollution control, this paper builds the emission diffusion model, which calculates the road traffic volume by road exhaust density.First of all, this paper measures CO emissions by testing 435 multifunction detectors from Shanghai typical roads, and compares the results with the national standard control.According to the standard in automobile exhaust emissions, the extreme values of the traffic volume over the road are calculated. Finally, the model’s reasonableness and accuracy are validated through case study. The results from case analysis show that the evaluation model is of great practical significance. 展开更多

Out of these, 51% of the fatalities occurred in rural highways compared to 49% in urban highways. No specific crash data are available for the built-up areas along rural highways. Due to high fatalities in rural highways, it is important to identify the factors that cause the vehicle crashes. The main objective of this study is to determine the factors associated with se- verities of crashes that occurred in built-up areas along the rural highways of Nevada. Those factors could aid in making informed decisions while setting up speed zones in these built-up areas. Using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression model, 337 crashes that occurred in 11 towns along the rural highways from 2002 to 2010 were analyzed. The results showed that more crashes occurred during favorable driving conditions, e.g., 87% crashes on dry roads and 70% crashes in clear weather. The binary logistic regression model showed that crashes occurred from midnight until 4 a.m. were 58.3% likely to be injury crashes rather than property damage only crashes, when other factors were kept at their mean values. Crashes on weekdays were three times more likely to be injury crashes than that occurred on weekends. When other factors were kept at their mean value, crashes involving motorcycles had an 80.2% probability of being injury crashes. Speeding was found to be 17 times more responsible for injury crashes than mechanical defects of the vehicle. As a result of this study, the Nevada Department of Transportation now can take various steps to improve public safety, including steps to reduce speeding and encourage the use of helmets for motorcycle riders. 展开更多

The current method of evaluating passenger satisfaction primarily adopts the traditional static evaluation mode, which can hardly satisfy the dynamic regulatory requirements of highway passenger transport service quality set by industry management departments. In this paper,we summarize the characteristics of real-time dynamic evaluation under the requirements of hierarchical and classified evaluation and analyze the entire process of the one-time travel service of highway passenger transport. We focus on station waiting and in-vehicle services, extract the elements most concerned by passengers as evaluation indexes, and construct a three-level index system.Subsequently,a multi-indicator comprehensive evaluation method based on the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is selected to construct a comprehensive evaluation model.By combining with the development level of electronic ticket purchasing and the requirements of satisfaction evaluation,we propose three data collection methods and compare and analyze their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, based on actual survey data, the effectiveness of the model is verified. The verification results show that the real-time dynamic evaluation index system based on the Internet can better satisfy evaluation requirements. 展开更多
