Humanistic Education in College English Classes:Problems and Solutions

The humanistic quality is one of the most important qualities for students to acquire in humanistic education.However,the limited class time for tightly scheduled teaching tasks fails to guarantee a satisfying result for humanistic education.In this paper,three strategies are proposed as the way out of this dilemma.The first,is to equip the College English teachers with rich professional and humanistic knowledge.The second is to change the traditional College English Teaching aim which is not suitable as a guide for current teaching.And the last is to require all the English teachers to explore and clarify the humanistic connotation in the texts which helps shape students’view of the world and value of the life.

On Sports Humanistic Education and Humanistic Quality

As the trend of modem education development, sports humanistic education covers an important field m humanistic education system, with ＂people-orientation＂ as its core. The implementation of sports humanistic education must be based on and be premised on the humanistic quality of the physical education teachers. Through the discussion of sports humanistic education and humanistic quality of physical education teachers, the connotation and essence of sports humanistic education and humanistic quality can be grasped, which facilitates the comprehensive carrying out of sports humanistic education, with providing a theoretical basis.

Analysis on Humanistic Education of Medical Students

Medical students are the major force of future medical scientific research and clinical work, and itis of great necessity for medical students to have humanistic education, which is also an inevitable way of improving medical students＇ clinical practice quality. Social progress demands that medical students should not only have excellent professional skills, but also be able to think about problems from medical,social, moral and ethics perspectives, establishing the people-oriented patient-centered noble medical ethics, having a good ability to communicate with people.

Situation and Development Path of Humanistic Education in Medical Colleges and Universities in China

Humanistic education,as the“internal structure”of medical education,attempts to cultivate medical students’humanistic knowledge,ability,and comprehensive quality as well as makes adjustments with the evolvement of medical education.The global medical education reform has undergone three stages:expert medicine,clinical practice medicine,and public service medicine.Public service medicine,which took place in the 21st century,is a system-based and competency-oriented education,highlighting the construction of a health service system with medical and educational cooperation as well as the cultivation of medical students’comprehensive quality.China’s medical education started late and has a weak foundation with many twists and turns.Through the rapid development of reform and opening-up,China has narrowed the gap with international medical education and established a perfect medical curriculum system.China has successively promulgated a number of documents,such as the“Outline of Reform and Development of Medical Education in China”and the“Opinions on Strengthening the Collaboration between Health Departments and Education Departments to Implement the Doctor of Excellence Education Training Program 2.0,”with the goal of cultivating high-quality excellent medical talents.Medical students in colleges and universities are senior talents in medical training,health care services,and medical research.Their humanistic quality is not only related to the growth of medical talents,but also the quality of medical services.This paper analyzes and discusses the problems encountered in improving humanistic education and looks forward to providing reasonable as well as effective solutions to the difficulties faced by humanistic education in the new era through comparative research.

The Role of the Examination Management for Medical Students in Humanities Education and Training Professional Quality

It has been proved by years of research that if the function of examination management cannot be fully understood or be used effectively, the humanities education and train of professional quality for medical students will not make a fundamental achievement. Because it is not only an academic training but also the examination management and the humanities cultivation have a close connection. The humanities cultivation which is based on the core of virtue requires a good campus environment. Therefore, we should adjust to the medical students＇ humanities quality training requirements, making the targeted reform and innovation of examination management.

FROM CULTIVATION OF COMPETENCE TO HUMANISTIC EDUCATION

With the development of information technology, there is a stronger appeal for humanistic education. The low efficiency of China's current English foreign language teaching (EFLT) and the ever-present affect and behavioral problems with middle school and college students set stronger requirements for humanistic education in English classes. Studies show that mere cultivation of competence itself is powerless to solve the problems. This paper attempts a tentative exploration into humanistic education in EFLT concerning curriculum, course-design, evaluation and classroom instruction. It further proposes a three-staged approach to classroom instruction, suggesting a way to go one step further from cultivation of competence to humanistic education.

A Tribute to Two Humanistic Educators in China:Lu Jie and Tao Xingzhi

On the December 25,2020,Prof.Lu Jie,the Emeritus Professor and former Dean of the Faculty of Education at Nanjing Normal University passed away.The sudden news struck me and recalled my nearly 30 years’friendship with Prof.Lu since 1991,stirring up also my memories of pre-1949 Christian colleges of China,and the promotion of“education of love”at Ginling College and Nanjing Normal University,from the time of Prof.Wu Yifang,Prof.Minnie Vautrin,Prof.Tao Xingzhi and Prof.Lu Jie.In this paper,I shall recall the various meetings with Prof.Lu Jie,and how her life has inspired my re-thinking of the development of“education of love”in China.I shall relate especially her humanistic educational ideals,especially the“education for life”and“cultivating human beings”with Prof.Tao Xingzhi’s“education of love.”Their educational ideals reflected the humanistic education taught at the University of Nanking and Ginling College in the first half of 20th century China.Though the two colleges had brought in a Western style of education,they had exemplified good models of indigenization,especially regarding how humanistic education could become Sinifized in Chinese soil today.

Practicality in Curriculum Building:A Historical Perspective on the Mission of Chinese Education

This paper examines how the definition and interpretation of the concept gewu zhizhi格物致知(investigating things and extending knowledge),evolved along with Chinese intellectual efforts to construct the framework for Chinese learning which,in turn,had a profound impact on the development of educational curricula in different historical periods.In Confucian philosophy,“practicality”appears ambivalent,as it can refer to moral cultivation in daily life or knowledge in the material world.Such ambivalence,embodied in the evolution of the concept of gewu zhizhi,can be interpreted as a Chinese search for a well-rounded curriculum in education.Within this framework,this paper traces the origin of the concept in The Great Learning,and investigates how it was developed to refer specifically to natural studies and then to scientific knowledge introduced into China in the late Qing period.This historical reflection on Chinese education points to the shared humanistic values in the Confucian approach to education and in the Renaissance ideal of a liberal education.It calls for a search for a common humanity in rethinking the content and aim of a modern Chinese education.

Beyond Tech:The Impact of Hybrid Classroom Climate on the Learning Outcomes of University Students

In the context of the highly demanding trend of equitable and quality education,digital technology has outlined a blueprint for sharing resources across spatial and temporal boundaries and learner differences.The hybrid classroom implemented on university campuses during the pandemic demonstrates the tremendous shaping power of digital technology on teaching and learning across different groups,time,and space.This study investigates two types of learners,Clone Classroom and Global Hybrid Classroom at Tsinghua University,and finds that intrapersonal,interpersonal,and institutional dimensions of classroom climate all significantly affect learners’learning outcomes.However,the influences at the three dimensions differ in degree,with interpersonal factors outweighing institutional factors and institutional factors outweighing individual factors.Furthermore,in individual factors,information literacy and tech-assisted support in institutional factors have the weakest impact on learning outcomes;institutional factors mediate individual and interpersonal factors influencing higher-order cognition development.To avoid the pitfalls of techno-centrism,this study suggests promoting an insight of technology for humanity and embedding technology into teaching to better empower teacher development and student learning experience.
