The governing equations are solved with the hydrostatic pressure distribution assumption and the Boussinesq approximation. An explicit scheme is employed to solve the continuity equations. The momentum and mass balance equations are solved implicitly in the Cartesian coordinate system. The tributaries are governed by the same dynamic equations. A control volume at the junctions is designed to conserve mass and volume transport in the finite difference schemes, based on the physical principle of continuum medium of fluid. Predictions by the developed model are compared with the analytic solutions of steady wind-driven circulatory flow and tidal flow. The singular limit we consider corresponds to the physical problem of letting the Bouguer number infinite while keeping the Boltzmann number constant. In the case when the corresponding Euler system admits a contact discontinuity wave, Wang and Xie (2011) [12] recently verified this singular limit and proved that the solution of the compressible radiation hydrodynamics model converges to the strong contact 1 discontinuity wave in the L∞-norm away from the discontinuity line at a rate of ε1/4, as the reciprocal of the Bouguer number tends to zero. In this paper, Wang and Xie's convergence rate is improved to ε7/8 by introducing a new a priori assumption and some refined energy estimates. Moreover, it is shown that the radiation flux q tends to zero in the L∞-norm away from the discontinuity line, at a convergence rate as the reciprocal of the Bouguer number tends to zero.展开更多

The predicted radial profiles of local gas holdup and bubble diameter are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental data. The spatio-temporal velocity profile of the gas phase reveals that the upward movement of gas is slowed down and the residence time of gas is prolonged by the downward momentum of the slurry, introduction of the external slurry can greatly improve the uniformity of gas holdup distribution in the reactor, especially in the downcomer-tube action region. Moreover, the interaction between the downward slurry and upward gas can lead to small bubble size and high interfacial area as well as good mass and heat transfer. The above results suggest the function of external slurry circulation for the internal loop reactor and would be helpful for optimizing the design and scale up of reactors.展开更多

For Yp 〉 S, depending upon initial impact velocity, there exist three types of penetration, namely, penetration by a rigid long rod, penetration by a deforming non-erosive long rod and penetration by an erosive long rod. If the impact velocity of the penetrator is higher than the hydrodynamic velocity (VH), it will penetrate the target in an erosive mode; if the impact velocity lies between the hydrodynamic velocity (VH) and the rigid body velocity (VR), it will penetrate the target in a deformable mode; if the impact velocity is less than the rigid body velocity (VR), it will penetrate the target in a rigid mode. The critical conditions for the transition among these three penetration modes are proposed. It is demonstrated that the present model predictions correlate well with the experimental observations in terms of depth of penetration (DOP) and the critical transition conditions.展开更多

Their sliding velocity and runout distance are two major parameters for quantifying and analyzing the risk of submarine landslides.Currently, commercial calculation programs such as BING have limitations in simulating underwater soil movements. All of these processes can be consistently simulated through a smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) depth integrated model. A coupled eco-hydrodynamic model, which combines a hydrodynamic model (ADCIRC) and a habitat suitability index (HSI) model is developed for target fish (Coilia nasus) and benthos (Corbicula fluminea) in the Yangtze River in order to predict the ecological changes and optimize the regulation scheme. Based on the existing research concerning the characteristics of Coilia nasus and Corbicula fluminea, the relationship between the target species and water environment factors is established. The verification results of tidal level, velocity and biological density show that the proposed coupling model performs well when predicting ecological suitability in the studied region. The results indicate a slight improvement in the potential habitat availability for the two species studied as the natural hydraulic conditions change after the deep-water channel regulation works.展开更多

A calibrated three-dimensional hydrodynamic model for the Pearl River Estuary (Delft3D) has been applied to the study of the physical hydrography of Hong Kong waters and its relationship with algal bloom transport patterns in the dry and wet seasons. The general 3D hydrodynamic circulation and salinity structure in the partially-mixed estuary are presented. Extensive numerical surface drogue tracking experiments are performed for algal blooms that are initiated in the Mirs Bay under different seasonal, wind and tidal conditions. The probability of bloom impact on the Victoria Harbour and nearby urban coastal waters is estimated. The computations show that: i) In the wet season (May - August), algal blooms initiated in the Mirs Bay will move in a clockwise direction out of the bay, and be transported away from Hong Kong due to SW monsoon winds which drive the SW to NE coastal current; ii) In the dry season (November- April), algal blooms initiated in the northeast Mirs Bay will move in an anti-clockwise direction and be carried away into southern waters due to the NE to SW coastal current driven by the NE monsoon winds; the bloom typically flows past the east edge of the Victoria Harbeur and nearby waters. Finally, the role of hydrodynamic transport in an important episodic event -- the spring 1998 massive red tide -- is quantitatively examined. It is shown that the strong NE to E wind during late March to early April, coupled with the diurnal tide at the beginning of April, significantly increased the probability of bloom transport into the Port Shelter and East Lamma Channel, resulting in the massive fish kill. The results provide a basis for risk assessment of harmful algal bloom (HAB) impact on urban coastal waters around the Victoria Habour.展开更多

The model was calibrated and validated using the measured water temperature and total phosphorous. The circulation patterns, water temperature, and water exchange conditions between sub-lakes were simulated under two conditions: (1) the present condition, in which the lake group is isolated from the Yangtze River; and (2) the future condition, with a proposed improvement in which connecting the lake group with the Yangtze River will allow river water to be diverted into the lake group. The simulation period selected was characterized by extremely high temperature and very little rain. The results show that the cold inflow from the river has a significant effect on the water temperature only near the inlets, and the effect is more obvious in the lower water layers than that in the upper ones. The circulation pattern changes significantly and small-scale vortices only exist in part of the lake regions. The water exchange between sub-lakes is greatly enhanced with the proposed improvement. The water replacement rate increases with water diversion but varies in different sub-lakes. Finally, a new water diversion scheme was proposed to avoid contamination of some lakes in the early stage.展开更多

Enhanced understanding of the generation and evolution processes of flash floods is essential for effective flood risk management. However, traditional distributed hydrological models based on kinematic and diffusion wave approximations ignore certain physical mechanisms of flash floods and thus bear excessive uncertainty. Here a hydrodynamic model is presented for flash floods based on the full two-dimensional shallow water equations incorporating rainfall and infiltration. Laboratory experiments of overland flows were modelled to illustrate the capability of the model. Then the model was applied to resolve two observed flash floods of distinct magnitudes in the Lengkou catchment in Shanxi Province, China. The present model is shown to be able to reproduce the flood flows fairly well compared to the observed data. The spatial distribution of rainfall is shown to be crucial for the modelling of flash floods. Sensitivity analyses of the model parameters reveal that the stage and discharge hydrographs are more sensitive to the Manning roughness and initial water content in the catchment than to the Green-Ampt head. Most notably, as the flash flood augments due to heavier rainfall, the modelling results agree with observed data better, which clearly characterizes the paramount role of rainfall in dictating the floods. From practical perspectives, the proposed model is more appropriate for modelling large flash floods.展开更多

A hydrody-namic modei was put forward to evaluate slug frequency for horizontal two-phase flow, based on the dependence of slug frequency on the frequency of unstable interfacial wave. Using air and water, experimental verification of the modei was carried out in a large range of flow parameters. Six electrical probes were installed at different positions of a horizontal plexiglass pipe to detect slug frequency development. The pipe is 30m long and its inner diameter is 24 mm. It is observed experimentally that the interfacial wave frequency at the inlet is about l to 3 times the frequency of stable slug. The slug frequencies predicted by the modei fit well with Tronconi (1990) modei and the experimental data. The combination of the hydrodynamic modei and the experimental data results in a conclusion that the frequency of equilibrium liquid slug is approximately half the miniraum frequency of interfacial wave.展开更多

The verification results of tidal level, velocity and biological density show that the proposed coupling model performs well when predicting ecological suitability in the studied region. The results indicate a slight improvement in the potential habitat availability for the two species studied as the natural hydraulic conditions change after the deep-water channel regulation works.

文摘In sub-tropical coastal waters around Hong Kong, algal blooms and red tides are usually first sighted in the Mirs Bay, in the eastern waters of Hong Kong. The results provide a basis for risk assessment of harmful algal bloom (HAB) impact on urban coastal waters around the Victoria Habour.

文摘The hydrodynamic effects of reconnecting a lake group with the Yangtze River were simulated using a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model. Finally, a new water diversion scheme was proposed to avoid contamination of some lakes in the early stage.

文摘Mountain catchments are prone to flash flooding due to heavy rainfall. From practical perspectives, the proposed model is more appropriate for modelling large flash floods.
文摘By use of the hydrodynamic model, the harmonic constants of 8 principal tidal constituents (Q(1), O-1, P-1, K-1, N-2, M-2, S-2 and K-2) are obtained for the East China Sea, and the harmonic constant of S-a is calculated by two-dimensional interpolation. The calculated results agree well with the observed data around the sea. The harmonic constants can be used to predict the tide in the East China Sea. The cotidal charts of the 9 tidal constituents reveal their distribution.

文摘With the development of industry and agriculture, nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients in the Hanshui River greatly increase and eutrophication has become an important threat to the water quality of the Hanshui River, especially in the middle and lower reaches. The primary objective of this study was to establish the water quality model for the middle and lower reaches of the Hanshui River based on the model of MIKE 11.The main pollutants migration and transformation process could be simulated using the water quality model. The rainfall-runoff model,hy-drodynamic model and water quality model were established using MIKE 11.The pollutants, such as chemical oxygen demand(COD),biochemical oxygen demand(BOD),ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, phosphorus, dissolved oxy-gen(DO),were simulated and predicted using the above three models.A set of methods computing non-point source pollution load of the Hanshui River Basin was proposed in this study. The simulated and observed values of COD,BOD5,ammonia,nitrate,DO,and total phosphorus were compared after the parameter calibration of the water quality model. The simulated and observed results match better, thus the model can be used to predict water quality in the fu-ture for the Hanshui River. The pollution trend could be predicted using the water quality model according pollution load generation. It is helpful for government to take effective measures to prevent the water bloom and protect water quality in the river.

文摘The prediction of slug frequency has important significance on gas-liquid two-phase flow. The combination of the hydrodynamic modei and the experimental data results in a conclusion that the frequency of equilibrium liquid slug is approximately half the miniraum frequency of interfacial wave.

文摘The plasma status of vacuum arc before arc current zero, has a great influence on the interruption performance of the vacuum circuit breakers. In this paper,a vacuum arc model in a short gap was established based on the magnet hydrodynamic(MHD) and a common computational fluid dynamics(CFD) software was utilized to specially investigate the properties of this arc.The spatial distributions of plasma pressure, plasma density, ion axial velocity, and axial current density in front of the anode surface of vacuum arc in this case were obtained.Simulation results indicate that:from the cathode to the anode, both of the plasma pressure and the plasma density increase gradually, and the plasma axial velocity decreases gradually;the axial current density in front of anode has a large radial gradient, and the maximum value is still smaller than the threshold current density for the anode-spot formation, thus, the anode is still passive. The comparison between the plasma density of simulation and the CMOS images taken by the high-speed camera indicates that they are in reasonable agreement with each other and demonstrates the feasibility of the vacuum arc model.
