It is found that the effects of grinding pressure and rotational speed of spindle in the machining for the ceramic materials are v ery significant on the quality of the grinding process. In order to achieve stab le grinding conditions for improved performance, a new grinding control scheme i n which the grinding pressure is maintained constant throughout the grinding pro cess was carried out in the present study. The surface quality of ground ceramics depends on the mechanism of material remo val in the vertical grinding process. For grinding of Si 3N 4 and glass under the condition of constant pressure, increasing pressure enhances material remova l rate, and at the same time causes more machining-induced microcracks on the g round surfaces. Along with the analysis of tangential forces, specific grinding energy, and the micro observations on ground surfaces, it can be found that low pressure and high wheel speed should be selected to high efficiently remove cera mics in ductile mode in the vertical grinding. From the theoretically analytical and measured grinding temperatures in the vert ical grinding of ceramics, it is found that the analytical temperature profile w ithε= 55% has the same trend with the measured one. The measured temperature is higher that the analytical one at the beginning stage of grinding process, whic h might be contributed to the unstable grinding condition of this stage. The gri nding temperatures in the vertical grinding of ceramics under a constant are not high enough for glassy phase formation, and may not reduce surface fracture as expected. However, the temperature in dry grinding may cause thermal damage to t he resin bond diamond wheel, thereby resulting in low quality workpiece surface.展开更多

Retinol-binding protein-4 is a new adipocytokine associated with insulin resistance. We investigated the serum levels of a series of adipocytokines including retinol-binding protein-4 in smokers and non-smokers to explore the possible roles of adipocytokines on smoking induced insulin resistance. Methods A total of 136 healthy male subjects (92 smokers and 44 non-smokers) with normal glucose tolerance were enrolled in the study. Adipocytokines including retinol-binding protein-4, visfatin, leptin, resistin, adiponectin were measured for the comparison between the two groups. Serum lipid profile, glucose, true insulin and proinsulin levels were measured as well in both groups. Food intake spectrum was also investigated. Results Both groups had similar profile of food consumption; visfatin, leptin, resistin and adiponectin, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, as well as blood pressure and body mass index, were similar in both groups. Triglycerides, retinol-binding protein-4 and homeostatic model assessment index for insulin resistance were higher in smoker group ((2.58±2.53) vs. (1.60±0.94) mmol/L, (26.05±8.50) vs. (21.83±8.40) μg/ml, and 2.25+2.08 vs. 1.58±1.15, respectively). Conclusion Smoking may have effect on insulin sensitivity, which is correlated with retinol-binding protein-4.展开更多

This approach addresses the escalating costs and complexities of research and development by streamlining the path from concept to clinical trials and, ultimately, to market. The article delves into the intricacies of implementing a fast-to-clinic/market strategy, underlining the empowering role of strategic decision-making in preclinical and commercial stages. The plan advocates for a phase-appropriate approach, where the development decision is tailored to each phase of the product’s lifecycle. This ensures that resources are allocated efficiently, risks are managed effectively, and the product can move through the development pipeline accelerated without compromising quality or regulatory compliance. The article also discusses the role of CDMOs in facilitating rapid product development and the essential factors biotech companies must consider when selecting a partner for outsourcing. These factors include the CDMO’s expertise in navigating regulatory landscapes, technological capabilities, and ability to scale processes efficiently. Moreover, the article stresses the importance of agility and flexibility in the fast-to-clinic/market approach. Biotech companies are encouraged to adopt adaptable strategies that respond to the fast-evolving regulatory and market landscapes.展开更多
