Using qualitative method, this paper reports a case study of culture shock--a foreign teacher's teaching experience in a Chinese university located in an area with a unique local population. The city involved in this study is Meizhou, located in Guangdong Province, which is considered "the capital of Hakka". The study found that indirect communication is a big shock for foreign teachers who teach in this area. The paper explores the reasons from the perspectives of Hakka culture and points out that culture shock can be an important aspect of foreign teachers' professional development, cultural learning and personal growth. Finally, the study provides implications for language teaching and learning in a similar area, such as Meizhou.展开更多

Soren Kierkegaard's (1962) work from the late 19th century helped a multitude of theologians re-evaluate their understanding of the New Testament (1992) and influenced many in the realm of philosophy in the opening half of the 20th century. It is possible that his work could shed new light on our understanding of the Controversy Sections in the Gospels between Jesus and the Pharisees. Kierkegaard's attempt to help those caught in "Christendom" move to "Christianity" will be compared with the "Gospel of Luke"'s presentation of Jesus attempting to move the Pharisees to true faith. Structural Analysis, an adaptation of Form Criticism, will be employed to demonstrate that the Gospel's presentation of Jesus' approach to the Religiously Secure parallels that of Kierkegaard展开更多

Internal communication is primarily to provide efficient, mutual flow of information between employees and management staff at all levels in each area of the organization. In order to present internal communication tools and evaluate their effectiveness a survey study was conducted among the employees of the listed media company Cyfrowy Polsat, one of the two leading private TV groups in Poland. The study involved 136 employees (17% of total employment). The majority of respondents were male (85%). All the respondents were 23 to 47 years of age. Almost half were below 24 years of age and 38% represented the age group 25-34 years of age. The majority of respondents declared higher education with master degree and working time exceeding three years. The survey showed that the dominant form of communication is message distribution via electronic channels which confirmed the research assumption that there was a dehumanization of contacts and indirect communication dominated over direct contact. Limited direct contact was also recognized as the major cause of conflicts and disputes. The study was based on the analysis of literature and source materials (reports, statistics, newsletters, and legal acts). Additionally, the paper provides the presentation of Cyfrowy Polsat's position in the Polish media market as well as the strategies and objectives of the company.展开更多

The navigation systems using artificial pheromone are still few so far. For this reason, this paper presents our research that aim to implement autonomous navigation with artificial pheromone system. By introducing artificial pheromone system composed of data carriers and autonomous robots, the robotic system creates a potential field to navigate their group. We have developed a pheromone density model to realize the function of pheromones with the help of data carders. We intend to show the effectiveness of the proposed system by performing simulations and realization using modified mobile robot. The pheromone potential field system can be used for navigation of autonomous robots.展开更多

Unfortunately, these campaigns do not always lead to the upgrading of people's pro-environmental behaviors, because people's behaviors are usually based on various motivations, including economic efficiency, convenience and so on. This article mainly aimed at analyzing the implementing reasons of people's pro-environmental behaviors and finding out policies of promoting people's pro-environmental behaviors. Therefore, the author conducted the internet investigations among male and female respondents over 20 years old, and collected valid responses of more than 1,000 from 2008 till 2014 every year in Japan and also used three communication concepts, which are the direct communication, the indirect communication and the direct and indirect combined communication as a framework for discussing policies of promoting people's pro-environmental behaviors. As a result of the internet investigations, it was found that non-environmental factors, such as "saving the household", "compliance with social norms" and "health" were bigger than the environmental factors, such as "the prevention of the global warming" and "saving resources" with regard to the implementing reasons of the pro-environmental activities. Actually, the pro-environmental activities often have the non-environmental benefits, such as cost-saving, health and so on. And so, the author suggests that it is effective that upgrading the implementation rate of the pro-environmental activities do not only appeal to the effects of reducing the environmental loading that the activity has (the direct communication), but also to the non-environmental benefits that the activity has, especially it is true to unconcerned people about environmental issues (the indirect communication). In addition, the author emphases that people need to appeal to both the environmental effects and the non-environmental benefits which the activity has, respectively, especially to people with the concern about environmental issues to some extent (the direct and indirect combined communication).展开更多
