This paper outlines the barriers and potential benefits of using standby diesel generators in mitigating the peak demands for commercial and industrial customers. The feasibility of utilizing the standby diesel generators to reduce the electricity bills for customers is carried out by using the hybrid optimization model for electric renewable(HOMER)software. The size of the standby diesel generator and its operational duration are determined based on the lowest cost of electricity obtained from the evaluations. The economic assessments demonstrate that there is potential to reduce the electricity bills for commercial and industrial customers under the existing fuel price and tariffs. The commercial customers under the tariff C2 have the highest potential to save their electricity bills with the use of standby diesel generators for peak reduction. This study demonstrates the potential of the standby diesel generators in peak reduction. 展开更多

Amidst growing environmental protection intensity by the Chinese government, this paper investigates the effects of environmental regulation on China's industrial pollution treatment productivity and environmental TFP. By estimating China's pollution treatment productivity between 2001 and 2008 and analyzing environmental regulation intensity and the effects of the relevant factors and pollution treatment productivity using panel data, this paper discovers that (1) pollution treatment productivity contributed a significant share of about 40% to industrial environmental TFP during the investigation period; (2) environmental regulation may not necessarily cause adverse impacts on pollution treatment efficiency and productivity but demonstrates a U-shaped relationship: when the share of pollution treatment cost in industrial value-added is above the range of 3.8%-5.1%, environmental regulation is likely to promote pollution treatment productivity and thus environmental TFP Judging by the estimation result, enhancing environmental protection and expediting the development of ecological civilization are conducive to China "s economic transition towards an intensive, efficient, circular, and sustainable development pattern. China's current industrial development has the capacity to tolerate a rather demanding level of pollution treatment and management and China needs to further rely on energy conservation and the environmental production industries to promote the progress of pollution treatment technologies. 展开更多

In industrial X-ray inspection, in order to identify weld defects automatically, raise the identification ratio, and avoid processing of complex background, it is an important step for sequent processing to extract weld from the image. According to the characteristics of weld radiograph image, median filter is adopted to reduce the noise with high frequency, then relative gray-scale of image is chosen as fuzzy characteristic, and image gray-scale fuzzy matrix is constructed and suitable membership function is selected to describe edge characteristic. A fuzzy algorithm is adopted for enhancing radiograph image processing. Based on the intensity distribution characteristic in weld, methodology of weld extraction is then designed. This paper describes the methodology of all the weld extraction, including reducing noise, fuzzy enhancement and weld extraction process. To prove its effectiveness, this methodology was tested with 64 weld negative images available for this study. The experimental results show that this methodology is very effective for extracting linear weld. 展开更多

As one of the largest global emitters of sulfur dioxide(SO_(2)),China faces increasing pressure to achieve sustainable economic and social development.Using panel data of 58 prefecture-level cities in North China between 2003 and 2017,this paper considers the dynamic spatio-temporal characteristics of industrial SO_(2) emissions in the"2+26"in North China and extended cities in North China and decomposes the determinants of industrial SO_(2) emissions into eight effects using the Generalized Divisia Index Model(GDIM).The contributions of each effect on changes in emissions are assessed on regional,provincial,and prefectural levels,as well as according to various stages.The results indicate the following.First,industrial SO2 emissions in the"2+26"cities in North China and extended cities in North China exhibit spatial autocorrelation and agglomeration effects.Cities with high-high(HH)and low-low(LL)agglomeration patterns were concentrated in Shanxi and Henan provinces,respectively.Second,industrialization,energy consumption,and economic development were the main factors that increased industrial SO2 emissions,while technology,energy sulfur intensity,and economic sulfur intensity were the key factors that reduced them.Third,13 cities,induding Tangshan,were the most important regions where further emissions regulations need to be implemented.These cities were divided into three types and different corresponding measures for reducing their emissions are suggested.Based on the conclusions of this study,this paper puts forward some targeted policy recommendations for reducing industrial SO_(2) emissions according to different categories of cities. 展开更多

Conventional electron and optical microscopy techniques require the sample to be sectioned, polished or etched to expose the internal surfaces for imaging. However, such sample preparation techniques have traditionally prevented the observation of the same sample over time, under realistic three-dimensional geometries and in an environment representative of real-world operating conditions. X-ray microscopy (XRM) is a rapidly emerging technique that enables non-destructive evaluation of buried structures within hard to soft materials in 3D, requiring little to no sample preparation. Furthermore in situ and 4D quantification of microstructural evolution under controlled environment as a function of time, temperature, chemistry or stress can be done repeatable on the same sample, using practical specimen sizes ranging from tens of microns to several cm diameter, with achievable imaging resolution from submicron to 50 nm. Many of these studies were reported using XRM in synchrotron beamlines. These include crack propagation on composite and construction materials; corrosion studies; microstructural changes during the setting of cement; flow studies within porous media to mention but a few. 展开更多

How Efficient Is China"s Industrial Relocation from East to West? - Evidence from 20 Manufacturing Industries

With the acceleration of the rise of central China and the western development drive, industrial relocation from China's eastern region to the central and western regions is in full swing. However, does the relocation demonstrate industrial clustering effect? Empirical studies based on twenty two-digit manufacturing industries in 27provinces from 2000 to 2009 demonstrate that industrial clustering effect appeared in central and western regions which had undertaken industrial relocation from eastern region; however, the studies do not show excessive administrative interference as evidenced by the significantly improved productivity of the relocated industries. Compared with non-labor- intensive manufacturing industries, labor-intensive manufacturing industries are easier to form cyclic accumulative effects. Studies also revealed that improvement in supporting infrastructure, industrial chain and higher labor quality in non-agriculture employment during urbanization are significant for central and western regions to undertake industrial relocation. 展开更多

Assessing the Biomass Potential of Major Industrial Tree Plantation Species for Green Energy Production

Energy requirements in both urban and rural areas are increasing giving added stress to the power generators and energy sources, thus blackouts are becoming common scenarios. Renewable energy from tree biomass is being eyed to provide solution to insufficient energy supply. A component of the green energy generation project is to assess the biomass potential of major industrial tree plantation species in the region at various ages, to determine the sustainability of a biomass-based green energy generation. Actual field measurements of biomass in selected plantations were conducted. In the field inventory, a plot measuring 10 × 50 meters was laid out randomly on the sampling site. For all trees inside the plot, the basal diameter and diameter at breast height for ages 1 to 2 years old and 3 to 5 years old, respectively were recorded. The results revealed that the biomass of major industrial tree species in Year 1 followed the order: Mangium (Acacia mangium) > Ipil-ipil (Leucaena leucocephala) > Falcata (Paraserianthes falcataria) > Bagras (Eucalyptus deglupta). However, as the trees mature, the biomass generation changed with Falcata overtaking Mangium. The order then was: Falcata (Paraserianthes falcataria) > Mangium (Acacia mangium) > Ipil-ipil (Leucaena leucocephala) > Bagras (Eucalyptus deglupta). Of the major industrial tree species, Falcata (Paraserianthes falcataria) and Mangium (Acacia mangium) are noted to have the biggest potential in supplying the biomass requirement of the green energy plant. 展开更多

The half-industrial and half-agricultural working structure in rural China is a key phenomenon supporting China's industrialization and urbanization. Based on inter-generational division of labor, the current half-industrial and half-agricultural working structure has given birth to the elderly agriculture and mainstay agriculture, the latter of which has gone out of agricultural involution and to some extent changed the management philosophy of traditional agriculture, becoming a key direction of China's agricultural development. Such a structure has also shaped the "new three-generation family" and facilitated the expansion of middle-income rural groups. While supporting long-term farmers in rural China, it also paves the way for China's urbanization. This structure plays a significant role in the economic, political and social development of rural China. Therefore, this structure is a rural economic structure which concerns farmers' income structure and livelihood patterns. Meanwhile, it is also a rural political structure, village structure and family structure. Through development and refinement, the half-industrial and halfagricultural working structure in rural China has far extended the scope of a descriptive concept. As a dominant variable, the structure, along with its derivatives, through permutation and combination, can establish logical relationships and an interpretation chain among a variety of major economic, political and social phenomena in rural China. Therefore, it can expect to be constructed into an analyticity-oriented mid-level concept. 展开更多

The bagasse is fired in the boiler for producing steam at high pressure, which is extracted through various single high capacity turbines and used in the process. The installation of high pressure boilers and high pressure turbo-generators has provision for the operation of co-generation plant during the off-season also that enhances the power generation from 9MW to 23MW. The annual monetary benefits achieved are Rs. 204.13 million and this was based on cost of power sold to the grid @ Rs 2.548 per unit, sugar season of 219 days and off season of 52 days. This required an investment of Rs 820.6 million. The investment had an attractive simple payback period of 48 months. 展开更多

制造业绿色转型是高质量发展的重要环节,而数字经济的蓬勃发展为其提供了新动力。该研究以中国277个城市2011—2021年的平衡面板数据为研究样本,利用包含非期望产出的超效率SBM模型测算城市层面的制造业绿色转型成效,并基于熵权法测度... 制造业绿色转型是高质量发展的重要环节,而数字经济的蓬勃发展为其提供了新动力。该研究以中国277个城市2011—2021年的平衡面板数据为研究样本,利用包含非期望产出的超效率SBM模型测算城市层面的制造业绿色转型成效,并基于熵权法测度城市层面数字经济指数,而后运用广义嵌套空间模型实证分析数字经济对制造业绿色转型的影响。得到基本结论后,进一步应用中介效应模型以及两区制空间计量模型深入分析数字经济作用于制造业绿色转型的中介机制和调节因素。研究结果表明:①中国城市间的制造业绿色转型呈现出空间聚集特征,具体表现为虹吸效应,即一个城市制造业绿色转型不利于其周围城市的制造业绿色转型。②数字经济不仅显著促进本城市的制造业绿色转型,也会促进其周围城市的制造业绿色转型,这一结论经过一系列内生性与稳健性检验后依然成立。③机制分析发现,数字经济对制造业绿色转型的促进作用经由促进绿色技术创新、优化资源配置效率和提高绿色信贷3个途径发生。④调节因素分析表明,数字经济与制造业绿色转型之间的关系受到能源效率的调节,较低的能源效率削弱了数字经济的作用。该研究从资源和信贷方面完善了数字经济-制造业绿色转型关系中的理论机制,并从能源方面探究该关系中的调节因素,其空间计量模型也全面考虑了地理因素和经济因素造成的空间相关性。基于研究结果,该研究提出了加快数字经济发展、提高能源效率、加快绿色技术创新、提升资源配置效率并优化绿色信贷的相关建议。 展开更多

本文研究了一个由高校院所进行基础研究和制造企业负责后续商业开发的共性技术跨组织合作研发激励模型及其选择问题。本文将政府支持与合同激励放在同一框架,运用博弈论方法为制造企业设计产出导向单一激励模型、产出导向+过程监控激励... 本文研究了一个由高校院所进行基础研究和制造企业负责后续商业开发的共性技术跨组织合作研发激励模型及其选择问题。本文将政府支持与合同激励放在同一框架,运用博弈论方法为制造企业设计产出导向单一激励模型、产出导向+过程监控激励模型及“政府支持+”综合激励模型以激发高校院所基础研究的积极性,同时解析了激励模型选择、影响因素及机理。研究表明:“政府支持+”综合激励模型是三种激励模型中的占优模型、产出导向+过程监控激励模型优于产出导向单一激励模型;双方收益分享系数具有促进和抑制高校院所认真履责行为的双重作用,且对其机会主义行为具有抑制作用,对制造企业后续商业开发行为及预期收益有“倒U型”影响;高校院所基础研究的影响系数在双方收益分享系数对制造企业后续商业开发努力的影响中发挥调节作用;政府补贴对高校院所和制造企业的合作研发行为具有明显的正向激励作用;惩罚系数可有效抑制高校院所的机会主义行为。 展开更多
