Acoustic models of railway vehicles in standstill and pass-by conditions can be used as part of a virtual certification process for new trains. For each piece of auxiliary equipment, the sound power measured on a test bench is combined with meas-ured or predicted transfer functions. It is important, however,to allow for installation effects due to shielding by fairings or the train body.In the current work,fast-running analytical models are developed to determine these installation effects. The model for roof-mounted sources takes account of diffraction at the corner of the train body or fairing, using a barrier model. For equipment mounted under the train, the acoustic propagation from the sides of the source is based on free-field Green’s functions. The bottom surfaces are assumed to radiate initially into a cavity under the train, which is modelled with a simple diffuse field approach. The sound emitted from the gaps at the side of the cavity is then assumed to propagate to the receivers according to free-field Green’s functions. Results show good agreement with a 2.5D boundary element model and with measurements.Modelling uncertainty and parametric uncertainty are evaluated. The largest variability occurs due to the height and impedance of the ground, especially for a low receiver. This leads to standard deviations of up to 4 dB at low frequencies. For the roof-mounted sources, uncertainty over the location of the corner used in the equivalent barrier model can also lead to large standard deviations. 展开更多

An isokinetic sampling probe is designed and constructed to measure entrained liquid droplet fluxes in separated gasliquid pipe flows. This probe also has the capability of working as a non-standard Pitot tube when the sampling is stopped. CFD simulations using the commercial software Ansys CFX were carried out for single phase gas flow to analyze the non-standard design. Pitot tube velocity calculations and isokinetic sampling conditions were studied. The predicted results were compared against theoretical velocity profiles from the literature and with gas single phase experimental data acquired in a horizontal 49 m long steel pipeline with an internal diameter of 69 mm. The experiments were done by using a dense gas (SF6) at 7 bara. An asymmetry of the experimental velocity profiles reproduced with the numerical simulations. The CFD simulations made it possible to verify the design and predict and correct an installation problem. 展开更多

The low frequency vibration response of a specimen in acoustic fatigue tests depends not only on the dynamic characteristics and the boundary conditions of the specimen itself, but also on the test unit which couples the specimen to a given sound field. Further, the latter can even be dominant instead the former in some circumstances. This fact is shown in the paper by using the experimental results and the theoretical analysis of the acoustic-induced vibration of a boundary clamped rectangular thin plate. In analysing the systems of acoustic fatigue test, an approach of electro-mechano-acoustical analogous circuit is used. The application of the approach can give an estimation of the effects on the low frequency vibration modes of various parameters in a system quantitatively. This supplies a theoretical basis and a means for the rational layout of acoustic fatigue tests. 展开更多
