Based on the shear stress formula of circular shaft under pure torsion in elastic stage, the formula of torque in elastic stage and the definition of yield, it is obtained that the yielding stage of plastic metal shaft under pure torsion is only a surface phenomenon of torque-torsion angle relationship, and the distribution of shear stress is essentially different from that of tensile stress when yielding under uniaxial tension. The pure torsion platform-torsion angle and the shape of torque-torsion angle curve cannot change the distribution of shear stress on the shaft cross-section. The distribution of shear stress is still linear with the maximum shear stress ts. The complete plasticity model assumption is not in accordance with the actual situation of shaft under torsion. The experimental strength data of nine plastic metals are consistent with the calculated results of the new limiting strain energy strength theory (LSEST). The traditional yield stress formula for plastic shaft under torsion is reasonable. The shear stress formula based on the plane assumption in material mechanics is applicable for all loaded stages of torsion shaft.展开更多

For metals, the failure results from shear stresses make the crystal structure slip; whereas for geomaterials, owing to its attribute of granular structures, their deformation follows the friction law,it is the co-action of shear stresses and perpendicular stresses that makes grains overcome the frictions between them, thus leading to the final failure of relative sliding. Therefore,on the basis of the cognition above,a triple shear energy criterion is proposed. Its corresponding Drucker-Prager criterion for geomaterials is also given. The new criterion can be rewritten to the Mohr-Coulomb criterion by neglecting the effect of the intermediate principal stress, and to the Mises criterion by not taking the internal friction angle into consideration. Then the studies of yield criteria commonly used are conducted systematically from the points of stress, strain and energy of geomaterials. The results show that no matter which expression form of stress, strain or energy is used for the yield criterion, the essence is the same and the triple shear energy yield criterion is the unified criterion of materials. Finally, the experimental verification is conducted in connection with the practical application of the triple shear energy yield criterion in an engineering project, and the calculation result shows that the Mohr-Coulomb criterion which only takes the single shear surface into account is more conservative than the energy criterion that does consider the effect of triple shear surfaces.展开更多

There are several limit states associated with these connections such bolt shear, bolt bearing, block shear, shear yielding and shear rupture. A modified version of the shear tab has been developed during the last decade, which is extended shear tab connections. In developing design provisions for the extended shear tab connections, experimental work showed that there are additional limit states other than those mentioned above that limit the capacity of the extended shear connection. Extended shear tab connections could be used to frame beam-to-column or beam-to-girder. In the case where a beam is framed into girder, a new limit state develops in the web of the supporting girder. This limit state is punching shear of the supporting girder web which is due to a higher moment. The higher moment in extended shear tab connections is due to the larger moment arm (eccentricity) from the bolt line, the location of the shear force, to the support, which is in this case the girder's web. This study investigates the supporting girder web using experimental work, finite element analysis, and yield line theory. This paper shows the result of this investigation and proposes an evaluation of the web capacity equation which should be used when calculating the beam-to-girder connection capacity.展开更多

However the increasing size of modem multi megawatt wind turbines allows to produce energy even in low wind regimes and non-neutral conditions can involve significant production period. In such situations the variations of the vertical wind shear can affect the energy production in a sensible way and it could be fundamental to investigate how atmospheric stability and orography can affect the wind profile and the power conversion. In this paper meso-scale numerical data, CFD modeling and remote sensed wind data were used in order to analyze such behavior and to understand how wind shear influences the energy content and the discussion about how to adjust the power curve to the site specific conditions.展开更多

文摘The distribution of shear stress on the cross-section of plastic metal solid circular shaft under pure torsion yielding, the applicability of complete plastic model assumption and the shear stress formula were researched. The shear stress formula based on the plane assumption in material mechanics is applicable for all loaded stages of torsion shaft.

文摘Shear tab connections or simple connections are widely used in structural steel structures. This paper shows the result of this investigation and proposes an evaluation of the web capacity equation which should be used when calculating the beam-to-girder connection capacity.
