Studied in this paper is the interfacial shear stress transfer behavior on both sides of the specially designed fiber when it is being pulled out; in which automatic analysis of three-dimensional photoelasticity is employed and the finite element method is adopted. The results show that the stress transfer occurs mainly in the region near the fiber's embedded end where the stress reaches its critical point, leading to debonding of the interface. Before debonding, as the pullout loading increases, the peak value of shear stress transfers along the fiber from the embedded end to the interior of the matrix, and then stops at the hooked part of the fiber because of its impediment. When the interface begins to debond as the load increases, the shear stress can be transferred to the hooked part.展开更多

An interfacial stress sensor was presented which was capable of measuring compressive pressure and shear stress simultaneously. A mathematical model was built and an experiment was conducted to obtain the transfer function of interfacial stress sensor to compressive pressure. The results show that the sensor is capable of measuring a range of 30-217 kPa compressive pressure with a relative error of 32.15% in lower range and 6.22% in upper range.展开更多

For this end, a closed-form solution for such stresses in externally FRP plated RC beams including creep and shrinkage effects is presented. The developed model is formulated to predict the interfacial stresses at time 't', in which the RC beams have been already subjected to creep and shrinkage effects. The adherend shear deformations have been included in the present theoretical analysis by assuming a parabolic shear stress through the thickness of the RC beam and the FRP panel. Contrary to some existing studies, the assumption that both RC beam and FRP panel have the same curvature is not used in the present investigation. This research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behavior of the interface and design of the FRP-RC hybrid structures.展开更多

A new technique was used to measure the interface shear stress. The interfacial shear stress was determined by using two methods: a momentum balance of gas and an extrapolation of the Reynolds shear stress profile at the gas-liquid interface. A new formula , relating to the interfacial friction factor with the void fraction and superficial gas Reynold number, was developed to predict the interface shear stress . The predicted values are in good agreement with experimental data.展开更多

Methods : Assuming that the prosthesis, the cement and the femur were concentric cylinders with linear elastic and isotropic properties, distributions of the axial stresses in the prosthesis, the cement and the femur as well as the interfacial shear stresses at the prosthesis/cement interface and the cement/femur interface in the axial direction were obtained from the established axisymmetric stress transfer model. Results : Interfacial failure was the main form for the prosthesis/cement/femur structure under external loads. Considering the residual thermal stresses, it was more likely to produce the mixed failure form than the pure shear failure form. Since the cement had a relatively high thermal expansion coefficient, the thermal effect accelerated the interface failure and thus aggravated the stress shielding effect. Due to a relatively high thermal residual temperature difference, the interfacial debonding and femur failure was more likely to occur for the cobalt-chromium alloy prosthesis material than the Ti-6A1-4V alloy prosthesis material. Conclusion: Assuming that the prosthesis, the cement and the femur are concentric cylinders with linear elastic and isotropic properties, distributions of the axial stresses in the prosthesis, the cement and the femur as well as the interfacial shear stresses at the prosthesis/cement interface and the cement/femur interface in the axial direction was obtained using the basic equations of axisymmetric elastic mechanics when the prosthesis bears the compressive stresses. Interface failure is the main failure form for the prosthesis/cement/femur structure under external loads. The thermal effects accelerate the failure of the prosthesis/cement interface and the cement/femur interface and the relaxation of the prosthesis, and then aggravates the stress shielding effect of the femur. Also, the thermal effects decrease the efficiencies of the interfacial stress transfer to some extent since it alleviates the failure of the interface and the femur, which was confirmed by the clinical results.展开更多

The shear stress distribution of full-length grouted bolts is analyzed based on the stress-strain relationship among the bolt, grout, rock mass and bond interface, considering the shear properties of the grout and contact interface bonding behavior. In this case, the interfacial shear stress of the grout and rock mass and the bolt axial force are obtained under pull-out and normal working conditions. The results show that the peak shear stress of the interface with the shear deformation of the bond interface is significantly lower than that without it when the pull-out force is applied. When designing bolt parameters of grade IV and V rock mass, the relative deformation between the rock mass and anchor should be considered, with a “unimodal” to “bimodal” shear stress distribution. In the case of a low elastic modulus of rock masses, both the shear stress concentration and distribution range are obvious, and the neutral point is near the bolt head. As the elastic modulus increases, the shear stress concentration and distribution range are reduced, and the neutral point moves towards the distal end. As a result, the optimum length of fulllength grouted bolts can be determined by in-situ pull-out tests and decreases with the increased elastic modulus of the rock mass.展开更多
