Unfortunately, IoT is overly distributed, still evolving and facing implementation and security challenges. Given the above scenario, we argue that the IoT network should always be decentralized design, and security should be built by design. The paper is the design and construction of a decentralized IoT security framework, with the goal of making emerging IoT systems more resilient to attacks and supporting complex communication and resource sharing. The framework improves efficiency and scalability in IoT, exposes vulnerable subsystems and components as possible weak links to system compromise, and meets the requirements of a heterogeneous computing environment. Other features of the framework including efficient resource sharing, fault tolerance, and distributed storage support the Internet of Things. We discuss the design requirements and carry out the implementation of Proof of Concept and evaluation of our framework. Two underlying technologies: the actor model and the blockchain were used for the implementation. Our reason for choosing the actor model and blockchain is to compare its suitability for IoT integration in parallel. Hence, evaluation of the system is performed based on computational and memory efficiency, security, and scalability. We conclude from the evaluations that the actor-based implementation has better scalability than the block-chain-based implementation. Also, the blockchain seems to be computationally more intensive than the actors and less suitable for IoT systems.展开更多

Traditional methods for software development cannot adapt to the challenge of Internet Service oriented software development. In this paper, we propose a new paradigm for the evolution of Internet Service with active objects from the characteristics of Internet Service and principles of active objects. The paradigm uses an automatic monitoring mechanism of active object to detect and process evolution requirement in system based on Internet Service.展开更多

Nowadays, home appliances are communicating with each other with home short-range home area gateways, using existing network communication protocols such as ZigBee, Bluetooth, RFID, and WiFi. A Gateway allows homeowners and utilities to communicate remotely with the appliances via long-range communication networks such as GPRS, WiMax, LTE, and power liner carrier. This paper utilizes the Internet of Things (IoT) concepts to monitor and control home appliances. Moreover, this paper proposes a framework that enables the integration and the coordination of Human-to-Appliance, Utility-to- Appliance, and Appliance-to-Appliance. Utilizing the concepts of Internet of Things leads to one standard communication protocols, TCP/IPV6, which overcomes the many diverse home area networks and neighborhood area networks protocols. This work proposes a cloud based framework that enables the IoTs integration and supports the coordination between devices, as well as with device-human interaction. A prototype is designed, implemented, and tested to validate the proposed solution.展开更多

This framework is insensitive to the inherent internet time delay, and differs from other tele-robotics systems that try to use some mathematic models to describe the internet delay or take some assumptions. In order to verify the framework, a 4-DOF fischertechnik industry robot tele-operation system has been developed using the new proposed framework. Experimental results demonstrate the applicable performance of the new framework. The framework is open structured and can be applied to other general purposed tele-operation systems.展开更多

The existing digital forensic applications have effectively held back efforts to align the IoT with digital forensic strategies. This is because the forensic applications are ill-suited to the highly complex IoT frameworks and would, therefore, struggle to amass, analyze and test the necessary evidence that would be required by a court. As such, there is a need to develop a suitable forensic framework to facilitate forensic investigations in IoT settings. Nor has considerable progress been made in terms of collecting and saving network and server logs from IoT settings to enable examinations. Consequently, this study sets out to develop and test the FB system which is a lightweight forensic framework capable of improving the scope of investigations in IoT environments. The FB system can organize the management of various IoT devices found in a smart apartment, all of which is controlled by the owner’s smart watch. This will help to perform useful functions, automate the decision-making process, and ensure that the system remains secure. A Java app is utilized to simulate the FB system, learning the user’s requirements and security expectations when installed and employing the MySQL server as a means of logging the communications of the various IoT devices.展开更多

This paper reviews the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) publication base as an effective solution. The NIST Special Publication 800-66 Revision 1 was an essential standard in US healthcare, which was withdrawn in February 2024 and superseded by SP 800-66 Revision 2. This review investigates the academic papers concerning the application of the NIST SP 800-66 Revision 1 standard in the US healthcare literature. A systematic review method was used in this study to determine current knowledge gaps of the SP 800-66 Revision 1. Some limitations were employed in the search to enforce validity. A total of eleven articles were found eligible for the study. Consequently, this study suggests the necessity for additional academic papers pertaining to SP 800-66 Revision 2 in the US healthcare literature. In turn, it will enhance awareness of safeguarding electronic protected health information (ePHI), help to mitigate potential future risks, and eventually reduce breaches.展开更多

The operations of SAR team are very challenging in such events due to the possible damages of the existing telecommunication infrastructures. The existing deployment of the cellular communications infrastructure may be partially or completely destroyed after the occurrence of these natural disasters. Thus, the current VASNET infrastructure must be able to support the infrastructure-less network by integrating other green wireless technologies that can benefit the SAR team, which can indirectly save more human lives and reduce the number of casualties. Therefore, the integration of green Internet of things (loT) and VASNET is proposed to form a heterogeneous framework for data dissemination in SAR operations. In addition, this paper also discusses the existing lot framework in disaster scenarios with future research direction for IoT using on any aspect, especially related to the natural disaster scenarios.展开更多
