A theoretical model of the fiber Bragg grating Fabry–Perot(FBG-FP) transmission spectrum considering loss of FBG and intra-cavity fiber is presented. Several types of FBG-FPs are inscribed experimentally, and their spectra are measured.The results confirm that weak intra-cavity loss is enhanced at the resonance transmission peak, that is, loss of transmission peaks is observably larger than other wavelengths. For FBG-FPs with multi resonance peaks, when the resonance peak wavelength is closer to the Bragg wavelength, the more significant loss effect of resonance transmission peak is exhibited.The measured spectra are fitted with the presented theoretical model. The fitted coefficient of determinations are near 1,which proves the validity of the theoretical model. This study can be applied to measure FBG loss more accurately, without a reference light. It can play an important role in FBG and FBG-FP writing process optimization and application parameter optimization. 展开更多

The performance of an erbium-doped fiber ring laser based intra-cavity absorption gassensor was evaluated with performance enhanced techniques. A multi-line wavelength sweep techniqueand a weighted averaging technique were proposed for better gas detection. By selecting appropriatesystem parameters, 6 strong absorption lines near 1 530 nm of C2H2 were obtained with good spectrumresolution in one scanning period. One group with higher absorption coefficients was used for relativelylow gas concentration detection and the other with lower absorption coefficients was used for relativelyhigh gas concentration. Both the groups can be used for medium gas concentration detection. For variousconcentration cases, by choosing proper absorption lines and performing weighted averaging, detectionaccuracy can be obtained over an extended detection range. A wideband tunable frequency-doubling optoelectronic oscillator (FD-OEO) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated based on a polarization modulator and an optical bandpass filter (OBPF). The central frequency of the correspondingly fundamental OEO could be adjusted by tuning the bandwidth and central frequency of the OBPF, which could also be regarded as a photonic-assisted tunable microwave filter. The frequency tuning range of the FD-OEO covers from 9.5 to 32.8?GHz, and the single sideband phase noise of the fundamental signal is lower than -100dBc/Hz at an offset of 10?kHz. Moreover, the frequency stability of the generated signal is investigated by measuring its Allan deviation. The Allan deviation of the generated fundamental signal at 10?GHz is 2.39×10^-9. 展开更多

The 1.4–1.8μm eye-safe lasers have been widely used in the fields of laser medicine and laser detection and ranging.The diamond Raman lasers are capable of delivering excellent characteristics,such as good beam quality concomitantly with high output power.The intra-cavity diamond Raman lasers have the advantages of compactness and low Raman thresholds compared to the external-cavity Raman lasers.However,to date,the intra-cavity diamond cascaded Raman lasers in the spectral region of the eye-safe laser have an output power of only a few hundred milliwatts.A 1485 nm Nd:YVO_4/diamond intra-cavity cascaded Raman laser is reported in this paper.The mode matching and stability of the cavity were optimally designed by a V-shaped folded cavity,which yielded an average output power of up to 2.2 W at a pulse repetition frequency of 50 kHz with a diode to second-Stokes conversion efficiency of 8.1%.Meanwhile,the pulse width of the second-Stokes laser was drastically reduced from 60 ns of the fundamental laser to 1.1 ns,which resulted in a high peak power of 40 kW.The device also exhibited single longitudinal mode with a narrow spectral width of<0.02 nm. 展开更多

We demonstrated a continuous wave(cw) single-frequency intracavity frequency-doubled Nd:YVO_4/LBO laser with 532 nm output of 7.5 W and 1.06 μm output of 3.1 W, and low intensity noise in audio frequency region.To suppress the intensity noise of the high power 532 nm laser, a laser frequency locking system and a feedback loop based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer were designed and used.The influences of the frequency stabilization and the crucial parameters of the MZI, such as the power splitting ratio of the beam splitters and the locking state of the MZI, on the intensity noise of the 532 nm laser were investigated in detail.After the experimental optimizations, the laser intensity noise in the frequency region from 0.4 kHz to 10 kHz was significantly suppressed. 展开更多

The residual reflectance of the sample is 0.07% and 0.11% at 1 064 nm and 532 nm, respectively. The adhesion and the laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of the sample are greater than 200 mN and 18.6 J/cm2. The strengthening mechanism of adhesion and LIDT of the buffer layer of SiO2 were discussed by considering full plastic indentation and shear theory, and spallation of a plated film induced by thermal shock stress, respectively. 展开更多

Employing SiO_2 Buffer Layer to Improve Adhesion of the Frequency-doubled Antireflection Coating on LBO

Frequency-doubled antireflection coatings simultaneously effective at 1064 nm and 532 nm were deposited on the lithium triborate (LiB3O5 or LBO) crystals using the electron beam evaporation method. Comparing with the sample without buffer layer, it is found that the adhesion of the sample with buffer layer of SiO2 between coating and LBO substrate is improved significantly from 137.4 mN to greater than 200 mN. And the laser-induced damage threshold is increased by 20% from 15.1 J/cm^2 to 18.6 J/cm^2. The strengthening mechanism of adhesion of the buffer layer of SiO2 is discussed by considering full plastic indentation and shear theory. 展开更多

We demonstrated experimentally a synchronously pumped intracavity frequency-doubled femtosecond optical para- metric oscillator (OPO) using a periodically-poled lithium niobate (PPLN) as the nonlinear material in combination with a lithium triborate (LBO) as the doubling crystal. A Kerr-lens-mode-locked (KLM) Ti:sapphire oscillator at the wavelength of 790 nm was used as the pump source, which was capable of generating pulses with a duration as short as 117 fs. A tunable femtosecond laser covering the 624-672 nm range was realized by conveniently adjusting the OPO cavity length. A maximum average output power of 260 mW in the visible range was obtained at the pump power of 2.2 W, with a typical pulse duration of 205 fs assuming a sech2 pulse profile. 展开更多

Hence, the treatm... BACKGROUND: Hepatolithiasis is very common in East Asia. It is benign in nature, but has a high recurrence rate. It is likely to lead to biliary cirrhosis and increase the risk of cholangiocarcinoma. Hence, the treatment of hepatolithiasis is difficult but vital. In this report, we present a novel approach to manage hepatolithiasis using the choledochoscopic Frequency-Doubled Double pulse Nd:YAG (FREDDY) laser lithotripsy combined with or without hepatectomy. METHODS: Between July 2009 and October 2012, 45 patients underwent choledochoscopic FREDDY laser lithotripsy combined with or without hepatectomy (laser lithotripsy group). Fortyeight patients underwent a traditional operation (traditional method group) from January 2009 to June 2009. Comparative analysis was made of demographic and clinical characteristics of the two groups. RESULTS: The final stone clearance rate of the laser lithotripsy group was 93.3%, whereas that of the traditional method group was 85.4% (P=0.22). In the laser lithotripsy group, 2 patients experienced hemobilia and 3 patients had acute cholangitis. In the traditional method group, 3 patients had intraoperative hemorrhage, 1 patient had bile leakage, 6 patients had acute cholangitis, and 1 patient died of liver failure. Moreover, the operative time in the traditional method group was significantly longer than that in the laser lithotripsy group (P=0.01). The mean hospital stay of the patients in the traditional method group was longer than that in the laser lithotripsy group (9.8 vs8.2 days, P=0.17). Recurrent intrahepatic bile duct stones were not found during the follow-up period in the two groups. CONCLUSION: Operative choledochoscopic FREDDY laser lithotripsy combined with or without hepatectomy may be an effective and safe treatment for hepatolithiasis. 展开更多

The output characteristics of a narrow linewidth, no-gain competition, dual-wavelength solid-state laser using an intra-cavity pumped method are reported. This system consists of an intra-cavity pumped Nd:YVO4 laser emitting at 1064 nm, using a 912 nm Nd:GdVO4 laser. A Fabry-Perot etalon is used to compress the linewidth that located at the common cavity of 912 nm and 1064 nm laser. Theoretical analysis and experimental verification were carried out. When the pump power is 32.8 W, the output of 912 nm and 1064 nm theoretical value is 0.036 W and 0.046 W, and the experimental value is 0.017 W and 0.016 W, respectively. The change trend of the theoretical simulated output power value was the same as the actual measured value in the experiment. In addition to this, the experimental measurement shows when the etalon with an angle of 15?, corresponding minimum linewidths were 0.284 nm and 0.627 nm, respectively. 展开更多

With the incident pump power of 12.7 W, A-O Q-switched average output power at 1 064 nm was 3.81 W with a duration of 25 ns at a repetition rate of 20 kHz, extra-cavity frequency doubling with KTP as the nonlinear crystal y ielded the maximum output power of 1.92 W at 532 nm, the corresponding optical conversion efficiency from 1 064 nm to 532 nm light is 50.4%. The continuous -wave(CW) laser properties of diode-pumped Nd∶YVO_ 4 crystal operating at 1 064 nm have been studied. With the incident pump power of 25 W, the maximu m CW output power of 13.81 W was obtained with the corresponding optical conver sion efficiency of 55.24%. 展开更多

An approach for full duty frequency-doubled triangle shape lightwave generation is proposed and demonstrated.It requires a dual-parallel Mach–Zehnder modulator(DP-MZM) driven by a sinusoidal signal. A stop band filter is coupled to filter out two undesired sidebands. By tuning the bias voltage applied to the DP-MZM, the output optical intensity with a full duty cycle triangle shape profile can be obtained. It is found that the required modulation index is no longer a fixed one. It can vary within a range, without degrading the target waveform. The principle is analyzed by theory and evaluated by simulation. A proof-of-concept experiment is also conducted.Good agreements between theoretical prediction and experimental results have been found. This approach might be attractive due to the feature of a variable modulation index, which insures simple operation in practice. 展开更多
