Modeling of grain size in isothermal compression of Ti-6Al-4V alloy using fuzzy neural network 被引量:6

Isothermal compression of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was conducted in the deformation temperature range of 1093-1303 K, the strain rates of 0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, and 10.0 s-1, and the height reductions of 20%-60% with an interval of 10%. After compression, the effect of the processing parameters including deformation temperature, strain rate, and height reduction on the flow stress and the microstructure was investigated. The grain size of primary a phase was measured using an OLYMPUS PMG3 microscope with the quantitative metallography SISC IAS V8.0 image analysis software. A model of grain size in isothermal compression of Ti-6A1-4V alloy was developed using fuzzy neural net- work (FNN) with back-propagation (BP) learning algorithm. The maximum difference and the average difference between the predicted and the experimental grain sizes of primary a phase are 13.31% and 7.62% for the sampled data, and 16.48% and 6.97% for the non-sampled data, respectively. It can be concluded that the present model with high prediction precision can be used to predict the grain size in isothermal compression of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. 展开更多

Hot compression behavior of Ti-5 Al-5 Mo-5 V-1 Cr-1 Fe alloy with an equiaxed(α+β) starting microstructure was investigated by isothermal compression test and optical microscopy. Based on the true strain-stress data with temperature correction, constitutive models with a high accuracy were developed and processing maps were established. Strain inhomogeneity at different locations in the compressed sample is reduced by raising temperature, leading to a uniform distribution of α phases. For the temperature range of 800-840 ℃ with a strain rate of 10 s^-1, the transformed volume fraction of α phase increases and the average grain size of α phase decreases slightly with increasing the temperature, indicating co-existence of dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization. Flow localization and faint β grain boundaries are observed at the strain rate of 10 s^-1 in the temperature range of 860-900 ℃. The processing map analysis shows that hot working of Ti-5 Al-5 Mo-5 V-1 Cr-1 Fe alloy should be conducted with the strain rate lower than 0.01 s^-1 to extend its workability. 展开更多

In order to obtain the earth pressure coefficient at rest (K0) at higher consolidation pressures during secondary compression, a series of K0 tests for saturated reconstituted clay were conducted. The results indicate that the measured K0 in secondary compression can be described by equations related to internal friction angle, secondary compression coefficient, compression index, recompression index, and sediment time. Effects of consolidation pressures and sediment time on K0 during secondary compression can be attributed to cementation (part of cohesion) increase and internal friction angle decrease. Cementation increase leads to nonlinear variation for K0 and internal friction angle decrease results in increase of K0. K0 computed by equations associated with internal friction angle is overestimated at apparent lower consolidation pressures with different sediment time, which agrees with the measured values well at apparent higher consolidation pressures. 展开更多

One of the important geotechnical parameters required for designing of the civil engineering structure is the compressibility of the soil.In this study,the main purpose is to develop a novel hybrid Machine Learning(ML)model(ANFIS-DE),which used Differential Evolution(DE)algorithm to optimize the predictive capability of Adaptive-Network-based Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS),for estimating soil Compression coefficient(Cc)from other geotechnical parameters namelyWater Content,Void Ratio,SpecificGravity,Liquid Limit,Plastic Limit,Clay content and Depth of Soil Samples.Validation of the predictive capability of the novel model was carried out using statistical indices:Root Mean Square Error(RMSE),Mean Absolute Error(MAE),and Correlation Coefficient(R).In addition,two popular ML models namely Reduced Error Pruning Trees(REPTree)and Decision Stump(Dstump)were used for comparison.Results showed that the performance of the novel model ANFIS-DE is the best(R=0.825,MAE=0.064 and RMSE=0.094)in comparison to other models such as REPTree(R=0.7802,MAE=0.068 and RMSE=0.0988)andDstump(R=0.7325,MAE=0.0785 and RMSE=0.1036).Therefore,the ANFIS-DE model can be used as a promising tool for the correct and quick estimation of the soil Cc,which can be employed in the design and construction of civil engineering structures. 展开更多

The accurate measurement on the compressibility and thermal expansion coefficients of density standard liquid at 2329kg/m3(DSL-2329) plays an important role in the quality control for silicon single crystal manufacturing. A new method is developed based on hydrostatic suspension principle in order to determine the two coefficients with high measurement accuracy. Two silicon single crystal samples with known density are immersed into a sealed vessel full of DSL-2329. The density of liquid is adjusted with varying liquid temperature and static pressure, so that the hydrostatic suspension of two silicon single crystal samples is achieved. The compression and thermal expansion coefficients are then calculated by using the data of temperature and static pressure at the suspension state. One silicon single crystal sample can be suspended at different state, as long as the liquid temperature and static pressure function linearly according to a certain mathematical relationship. A hydrostatic suspension experimental system is devised with the maximal temperature control error ±50 μK; Silicon single crystal samples can be suspended by adapting the pressure following the PID method. By using the method based on hydrostatic suspension principle, the two key coefficients can be measured at the same time, and measurement precision can be improved due to avoiding the influence of liquid surface tension. This method was further validated experimentally, where the mixture of 1, 2, 3-tribromopropane and 1,2-dibromoethane is used as DSL-2329. The compressibility and thermal expansion coefficients were measured, as 8.5′10–4 K–1 and 5.4′10–10 Pa–1, respectively. 展开更多

The Tolman length δ 0 of a liquid with a plane surface has attracted increasing theoretical attention in recent years,but the expression of Tolman length in terms of observable quantities is still not very clear.In 2001,Bartell gave a simple expression of Tolman length δ 0 in terms of isothermal compressibility.However,this expression predicts that Tolman length is always negative,which is contrary to the results of molecular dynamics simulations(MDS) for simple liquids.In this paper,this contradiction is analyzed and the reason for the discrepancy in the sign is found.In addition,we introduce a new expression of Tolman length in terms of isothermal compressibility for simple fluids not near the critical points under some weak restrictions.The Tolman length of simple liquids calculated by using this formula is consistent with that obtained using MDS regarding the sign. 展开更多

In this article an investigation is presented on the properties of dust acoustic(DA)compressive solitary wave propagation in an adiabatic dusty plasma,including the effect of nonthermal positive and negative ions and non-isothermal electrons.The reductive perturbation method has been employed to derive the lower degree modified Kadomtsev-Petviashivili(mK-P),3D Schamel-Korteweg-de-Vries equation or modified Kadomtsev-Petviashivili(mK-P) equations for dust acoustic solitary waves in a homogeneous,unmagnetized and collisionless plasma whose constituents are non-isothermal electrons,singly charged positive and negative non-thermal ions and massive charged dust particles.The stationary analytical solutions of the lower degree mK-P and mK-P equations are numerically analyzed,where the effect of various dusty plasma constituents on DA solitary wave propagation is taken into account.It is observed that both the ions in dusty plasma play a key role in the formation of DA compressive solitary waves,and also the ion concentration and non-isothermal electrons control the transformation of the compressive potentials of the waves. 展开更多

Isothermal hot compression tests were carried out on Mg-3.0Nd-0.2Zn-0.4Zr (mass fraction, %, NZ30K) alloy using a Gleeble-3500 thermo-simulation machine at temperatures ranging from 350 to 500 ℃and strain rates from 0.001 to 1 s^-1. A correction of flow stress for deformation heating at a high strain rate was carried out. Based on the corrected data for deformation heating, a hyperbolic sine constitutive equation was established. The constants in the constitutive equation of the hyperbolic sine form were determined as a function of strain. The flow stresses predicted by the developed equation agree well with the experimental results, which confirms that the developed constitutive equations can be used to predict the flow stress of NZ30K alloy during hot deformation. 展开更多

The flow behavior and microstructure evolution of 6A82 aluminum alloy (Al?Mg?Si?Cu) with high copper content were studied on a Gleeble?1500 system by isothermal hot compression test in the temperature range from 320 to 530 °C and the strain rate range from 0.001 to 10 s?1. The results reveal that the flow stress of the alloy exhibits a continuous flow softening behavior at low temperatures of 320?390 °C, whereas it reaches steady state at high temperatures (≥460°C), which are influenced greatly by the Zener?Hollomon parameter (Z) in the hyperbolic sine with the hot deformation activation energy of 325.12 kJ/mol. Microstructure characterizations show that prominent dynamic recrystallization and coarsening of dynamic precipitation may be responsible for the continuous flow softening behavior. Due to deformation heating at high strain rates (≥1 s?1), dynamic recrystallization is more prominent in the specimen deformed at 530 °C and 10 s?1 than in the specimen deformed at 460 °C and 0.1 s?1 even though they have very close lnZ values. 展开更多

In view of different compressor adding ways in the ammonia-water absorption/compression combined refrigeration AWA /CCR cycle combining the Schulz state equation of the ammonia-water solution the theoretical analysis and calculations on two combination ways by adding the compressor in the high-pressure area and in the low-pressure area are conducted respectively.The effects of several factors including the evaporation temperature Te heat-source temperature Th as well as the cooling water temperature Tw on the equivalent heat consumption in compression qCW heat consumption in absorption qG and the system coefficient of performance COP are analyzed under the two combination configurations.The results show that the effect of the equivalent heat consumption in compression on the COP is less than that of the heat consumption in absorption.Besides the compressor set in the high-pressure area uses more energy than that in the low-pressure area. Moreover the compressor in the low-pressure area is superior to that in the high-pressure area with respect to the COP. Under the given intermediate pressure there is an optimum heat-source temperature corresponding to the maximum COP of the AWA/CCR cycle. 展开更多

The plastic work-heat conversion coefficient is one key parameter for studying the work-heat conversion under dynamic deformation of materials. To explore this coefficient of 7075-T651 aluminum alloy under dynamic compression, dynamic compression experiments using the Hopkinson bar under four groups of strain rates were conducted, and the temperature signals were measured by constructing a transient infrared temperature measurement system. According to stress versus strain data as well as the corresponding temperature data obtained through the experiments, the influences of the strain and the strain rate on the coefficient of plastic work converted to heat were analyzed.The experimental results show that the coefficient of plastic work converted to heat of 7075-T651 aluminum alloy is not a constant at the range of 0.85–1 and is closely related to the strain and the strain rate. Finite element(FEM)analysis was used to systematically evaluate the inhomogeneity of deformation in cylindrical samples with various sample-anvil friction coefficients,m.It was found that the level of friction strongly influences the deformation homogeneity,which increases significantly with the friction coefficient although the overall geometry of the samples almost remains the same when m >0.4.The position,at which the effective strain along the maximum radial direction in a compressed sample is equal to the equivalent strain of the sample,does not vary greatly with respect to both equivalent strain of the sample and m.Hardness measurements of compressed cylindrical 5056B Al alloy samples revealed a change of effective strain distribution similar to that revealed by FEM analysis.There exists a quantitative relationship between the hardness and the effective strain if no recrystallization or recovery occurs during the compression process. 展开更多

In this paper,the densely arrayed bonded particle model is proposed for simulation of granular materials with discrete element method(DEM)considering particle crushing.This model can solve the problem of pore calculation after the grains are crushed,and reduce the producing time of specimen.In this work,several one-dimensional compressing simulations are carried out to investigate the effect of particle crushing on mechanical properties of granular materials under a wide range of stress.The results show that the crushing process of granular materials can be divided into four different stages according to er-logσy curves.At the end of the second stage,there exists a yield point,after which the physical and mechanical properties of specimens will change significantly.Under extremely high stress,particle crushing will wipe some initial information of specimens,and specimens with different initial gradings and void ratios present some similar characteristics.Particle crushing has great influence on grading,lateral pressure coefficient and compressibility of granular materials,and introduce extra irreversible volume deformation,which is necessary to be considered in modelling of granular materials in wide stress range. 展开更多
