Using t-test and Logistic regression analysis, we investigated the following aspects: ownership by top managers and the CEO, the number of directors, the percentage of inside directors, CEO duality, and ownership concentration. The empirical tests indicate a lower probability of financial distress when ownership by top managers and that by the CEO are higher. The evidence also shows that a combination of two parts, the CEO and the chairman of the board, may influence the internal control system of a publicly listed companies.展开更多

Although there is an extensive body of literature on comparisons of food safety control practices across different governance structures, these studies have been conducted mainly in terms of qualitative and descriptive analysis. In addition, little attention has been given to family farms. This study addresses the food safety control practices adopted by firms with different governance structures in China. Food safety control is expressed by the following aspects, i.e., pollution-free, green, organic, and/or geographical indication prod- ucts certification, establishment of production records, and pesticide residue testing. Three types of governance structures that engage in agricultural production are distinguished: farmer cooperatives, agricultural companies, and family farms. The food safety control practices of various governance structures are investigated based on a database that comprises 600 vegetable and fruit enterprises in Zhejiang, China. The results show that (1) pesticide residue testing is adopted by the most firms, followed by products certification, and production records are adopted by the fewest firms, and (2) agricul- tural companies adopt more food safety control practices than family farms, while farmer cooperatives adopt the fewest food safety control practices. Governance structure features of a cooperative in terms of ownership, decision-making, and income distribution are the main reasons for the low level of food safety control in the cooperative.展开更多

文摘This paper examines the effects of internal control mechanisms on the financial distress of publicly listed companies in China. The evidence also shows that a combination of two parts, the CEO and the chairman of the board, may influence the internal control system of a publicly listed companies.

文摘Food safety issues constitute an international topic discussed by many scholars. Governance structure features of a cooperative in terms of ownership, decision-making, and income distribution are the main reasons for the low level of food safety control in the cooperative.
文摘Coastal areas in the eastern sub-region of Thailand,a popular destination in Southeast Asia, are facing rapid tourism-related urbanization and associated consequences of environment and climate change(CC).Thus, this study aims to analyze the relationships between tourism, coastal areas, the environment, and CC in the context of tourism urbanization;and recommend strategies for enhancing the governance of coastal areas.Three popular destinations were selected as study areas,Koh Chang,Koh Mak,and Pattaya.Group discussions, questionnaire surveys,in-terviews,and observation were used for primary data collection together with secondary data. The results show that the development of these destinations has been incompatible with the coastal environment and CC patterns.Rapid urbanization from tourism development is the main driver of environmental changes and makes the areas vulnerable to CC-related risks. While water scarcity and pollution are found the most critical environmental issues of the destinations, coastal areas are negatively affected in terms of increased air and water pollution and resource degradation. They have also been exposed to different CC-related problems while the risks of accumulative impacts of both environment and CC have not been adequately recognized or addressed.Although some measures have provided synergies of improved environment and increased climate resilience, possible conflicts and gaps were also found.Public infrastructure integration and optimization to enhance coastal areas'environment and climate resilience are suggested.

文摘As the building of a socialist countryside in China is at a critical stage, village rules and regulations,as an important means of rural governance,is also in the orderly construction and operation. However, there still exist obvious shortcomings in the contemporary rural governance, which hinders the active inheritance of the traditional villages' culture. Through the in-depth analysis of the relevant theories of rural governance and the historical culture of Ancient Zhentou Village, this study is expected to exploit the concept of the ancient village's culture in the heart of its dwellers so as to help them to better collect their existing cultural heritage.

文摘As one of the top ten environmental problems to be solved in the world, marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution seriously affect the health of marine ecosystems and the sustainable development of Marine economies. It is necessary to promote the establishment of a scientific and systematic Marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control system and take strong measures to fundamentally curb and reverse the trend of marine pollution intensification in China. This paper first explains the practical significance of marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control from three aspects:the sustainable development of the blue economy, the structural upgrading of the pan-plastic industry, and the improvement of public health awareness.Secondly, the particularity of marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control system is summarized from three aspects of formation mechanism, migration path and damage performance. Then,it identifies domestic and international governance strategies and action plans from the perspectives of mechanism, subject, object, and measures, summarizes existing problems in the existing marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control system, and gives directions for future improvement. Finally, some countermeasures and suggestions are put forward to accelerate the construction of China’s marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control system, including the formation of a cross sectoral integrated land and sea control system,a full life cycle waste management process,a multi-participation model for marine ecological and environmental governance, and a global marine pollution prevention and control system.
