A quantitative evaluation system of Chinese journals in the humanities and social sciences

Based on analyses on existing indicators for evaluating journals in the humanities and social sciences and our experience in constructing the Chinese Social Science Citation Index(CSSCI), we proposed a comprehensive system for evaluating Chinese academic journals in the humanities and social sciences. This system constitutes 8 primary indicators and 17 sub-indicators for multidisciplinary journals and 19 sub-indicators for discipline-specific journals. Each indicator or sub-indicator is assigned a suitable weight according to its importance in terms of measuring a journal's academic quality and/or impact.

Mapping Diversity of Publication Patterns in the Social Sciences and Humanities: An Approach Making Use of Fuzzy Cluster Analysis

Purpose: To present a method for systematically mapping diversity of publication patterns at the author level in the social sciences and humanities in terms of publication type, publication language and co-authorship.Design/methodology/approach: In a follow-up to the hard partitioning clustering by Verleysen and Weeren in 2016, we now propose the complementary use of fuzzy cluster analysis, making use of a membership coefficient to study gradual differences between publication styles among authors within a scholarly discipline. The analysis of the probability density function of the membership coefficient allows to assess the distribution of publication styles within and between disciplines.Findings: As an illustration we analyze 1,828 productive authors affiliated in Flanders, Belgium. Whereas a hard partitioning previously identified two broad publication styles, an international one vs. a domestic one, fuzzy analysis now shows gradual differences among authors. Internal diversity also varies across disciplines and can be explained by researchers’ specialization and dissemination strategies.Research limitations: The dataset used is limited to one country for the years 2000–2011; a cognitive classification of authors may yield a different result from the affiliation-based classification used here.Practical implications: Our method is applicable to other bibliometric and research evaluation contexts, especially for the social sciences and humanities in non-Anglophone countries.Originality/value: The method proposed is a novel application of cluster analysis to the field of bibliometrics. Applied to publication patterns at the author level in the social sciences and humanities, for the first time it systematically documents intra-disciplinary diversity.

Spatial Humanities and Geo-computation for Social Sciences:Advances and Applications

Humanities and Social Sciences(HSS) are undergoing the transformation of spatialization and quantification. Geo-computation, with geoinformatics(including RS: Remote Sensing;GIS: Geographical Information System;GNSS: Global Navigation Satellite System), provides effective computational and spatialization methods and tools for HSS. Spatial Humanities and Geo-computation for Social Sciences(SH&GSS) is a field coupling geo-computation, and geoinformatics, with HSS. This special issue accepted a set of contributions highlighting recent advances in methodologies and applications of SH&GSS, which are related to sentiment spatial analysis from social media data, emotional change spatial analysis from news data, spatial analysis of social media related to COVID-19, crime spatiotemporal analysis, “double evaluation” for Land Use/Land Cover(LUCC), Specially Protected Natural Areas(SPNA) analysis, editing behavior analysis of Volunteered Geographic Information(VGI), electricity consumption anomaly detection, First and Last Mile Problem(FLMP) of public transport, and spatial interaction network analysis for crude oil trade network. Based on these related researches, we aim to present an overview of SH&GSS, and propose some future research directions for SH&HSS.

Functions of Rhetoric and Social Science Origins in Communication Study—Based on Boxing Plato’s Shadow:An Introduction to the Study of Human Communication

With the development of the rhetoric study from the origins in ancient Athens and The Rhetoric of Aristotle to the formation of modern Communication Study at the beginning of the twentieth century,the Rhetoric Study changed in dynamic and its concepts and theories merged and formed the foundations of Communication Study which focused on personal communication and speech rhetoric skills at that time.At the beginning of the twentieth century,although the Neo-Aristotelian rhetorical scholars from classic rhetoric approach created methodologies and enriched the content of Communication Study under the influence of humanistic study and social science study,but the Communication discipline was still in the embarrassing position.During World War I and World War II,most scholars with backgrounds of social science,history and anthropology carried out the studies of propaganda wars and the message disseminating,and explored the military powers and governments’access to the media and developed serial communication modes from the social science perspective,which laid the foundation for Communication discipline in the academic field.The author analyzed the Rhetoric and Social Science origins of Communication study in Boxing Plato’s Shadow:an Introduction to the Study of Human Communication,which is beneficial and helpful to understand the academic origins of Communication study and its cross-disciplined and embarrassing positions.

A Brief Analysis of the relationship between the natural sciences and humanities and social science

With the continuous development of economic and social, the category of science is no longer limited to the technical field, natural science, humanities and social science have flourished, but the study of the relationship between the two disciplines is not perfect enough, so we should follow the academic trend, clarify the relationship between the two,only in this way can we have a more specific grasp of the science, this had a profound influence on the all-round development of modern society.

A Contrastive Genre Analysis of English Abstracts of Bachelor's Degree Thesis:Economics and Humanities & Social Sciences

The move identification of the present study followed the four-move model of V.K.Bhatia who is the representative personage of ESP.It is composed of four moves(1993):Introducing purpose,Describing methodology,Summarizing results and Presenting conclusions.According to the above theory,Principles of the scientific method of sampling suggested by Nwogu(1997:121)as to the selection of journal were adopted in the study—representativity,reputation,accessibility.The focus is the analysis of move structures of abstract sections of them and contrastive studies between Economics and Humanities&Social Sciences of Lanzhou Jiaotong University in different moves of abstract sections.We find there are some similarities and differences between them.In general,the abstracts of Humanities&Social Sciences are more standard than Economics,which suggested English abstract sections of some Economics bachelor’s degree thesis need to be improved.

Reflections on Amendments to the Journal's Editing Standards

A 10-year-old unified editing standard was recently abolished in the field of humanities and social science journals. This is because the standard failed in showing equal respect to disciplinary differences, in keeping with Chinese culturaltraditions, and in gaining acceptance among journal editors. As such, amendment efforts to the National Standard should be undertaken patiently and in a practical manner to achieve agreement within this publishing field.

International Human Rights Conventions in China——An interview with Research Fellow Mo Jihong of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

On the advent of the ＂International Human Rights Day＂ on Dec. 10, 2007, our staff reporter Interviewed Research Fellow Mo Jihong of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on how the international human rights conventions are implemented in China. Born in May 1965, Mo Jihong is a native of Jingjiang, Jiangsu Province. He is a research fellow at the Law Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social sciences and a tutor for Ph.D candidates in the International Human Rights Law. He also serves as an executive member of the Society for International Constitution Studies and vice-president of the Constitution Chapter of the China Society of Law. He was a visiting scholar at the Human Rights Institute of Norway, and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. His principal works include International Human Rights Convention and China （2005）, Principles of Constitutional Sciences in Practice （2007） and In Defense of Legislation （2007）. Human Rights Research Methods in Social Science

Introduction and Motivation Legal science and philosophy are two of the most important dis- ciplines in the field of human rights research, both of them assuming different roles and functions in human rights analysis. Scholars can discuss or debate from a philosophical per- spective such as where the ideology of human rights comes from, what the ontology of human rights is and whether people could legitimate human rights claims on the basis of natural morality.

Interdisciplinarity is strongly promoted by institutions and is the subject of abundant scientific publications on its history,definition,and typologies,as well as on its obstacles and challenges.This article aims to provide insight into the development of an interdisciplinary research question.We will present the path that led from an administrative management question to a doctorate in philosophy of medicine on supportive care,thanks to a rich collaboration between a wide range of academic,hospital,and association players.An analysis of the literature will show how the long history of science underpins disciplinary issues in the development of a research question.The method will make visible the long dialogue between the partners in this project.The results will show how the research question evolved throughout the project.Finally,the discussion will propose three concepts to put interdisciplinarity into perspective:collaboration,attention,and tranquility.

学术期刊对社会科学学科发展的意义——以社会学学科为例

Towards Positivity:A Large-Scale Diachronic Sentiment Analysis of the Humanities and Social Sciences in China

With its rising number of publications and expanding international collaborations,China's humanities and social sciences(HSS)research is displaying its potential for global prominence.Researchers have been exploring the development of China's HSS from different perspectives.However,the examinations from the perspective of sentiment analysis are scanty.Our aim is then to examine the sentiment features in Chinese HSS academic writing,by analyzing a large-scale corpus with over 275 million characters and with a time span from 2000 to 2020.Considering that most studies only focused on abstracts,we examined both the abstracts and the full texts,as well as a direct comparison between them.We found that Chinese HSS academic writing has evolved to be more positively biased in the past two decades,showing an upward trend in the use of positive words and a slight downward trend in the use of negative words.However,the upward trend of positive words in the full texts is not that clear,resembling a fluctuating pattern.Regarding the comparison,the abstracts are more likely to use positive words while the full texts tend to use more negative words.These phenomena can be explained with the social cognitive theory,in that they may be shaped by a joint force of the nature of human beings,the nature of language,the particular socio-cultural background in China and the features of the academic genre.

论文数量、来源期刊、国际合作、国际基金资助、论文被引情况是判定"985"高校在"十一五"期间在Web of Science中所发论文影响力的重要指标。对这5项指标的统计分析发现,虽然目前我国高校的人文社会科学研究在国际学术界占有了一席之地,但其国际学术影响力尚需要努力提高,具体可以从培养科研工作者树立国际化的学术理念、搭建国际学术交流平台、实施期刊"走出去"战略三方面着手。

人文社科领域以元宇宙为话题的文献曾爆炸式增加,在ChatGPT后又断崖式锐减,爆炸式增加时理论在量上的繁荣并未增益社会对元宇宙的理解。新技术现象总是以质料状态被既有学科体系所消化。人文社科知识生产活动陷于刺激和反馈的逻辑中,囿于考察技术变化对所处学科研究领域社会影响的预测和评估,失去或刻意忽视在具体问题中探索人的超越性与崇高性基础。我们需要对人文社科知识生产中的工具逻辑与机械逻辑的质性差异给出区分,为人文社科知识生产描述与分析科学技术现象提供清晰的主体意识和明确的理论前提。

数智时代人文社科数据资源开发利用的跃迁:从观念到行动

近年来数据资源开发利用的热潮已然在人文社科领域扩散开来,人文社科的数据资源观正在从传统的有限样本资料、“小数据”向大数据、智慧数据转变。针对当前人文社科数据资源开发利用仍然存在的“保护”“深闺”“孤岛”“同质”“展示”现象,本文构建了以主体层、内容层、保障层为核心的人文社科数据资源开发利用路径框架:主体层强调顶层规划主体、建库主体、数据用户之间的协同合作;内容层凸显逻辑维、资源维、方法维、验证维的组合路径;保障层涉及政策法规、资金项目、人才资源、文化氛围等保障措施。面向未来,人文社科数据资源开发利用需要积极打造人文社科数据资源“治理术”,在基本理念上需要从“资源基础论”向“治理能力论”转变,在具体行动上可从数据基础设施体系搭建、多学科数据资源共生共长机制构建、数据资源产权与安全有效保护、基于数据资源的服务链建构等方面着力推进。图1。参考文献15。
