Teachers’Characteristics and Teaching Styles as Determinants of Students’Achievement in Senior Secondary Schools Civics and English Language in Osun State,Nigeria

The study examined the status of senior secondary schools’students’achievement in Civic Education and English Language in Osun State.It also investigated the Civic Education and English Language teachers’characteristics in the state and determined the teaching styles of Civic Education and English Language teachers in the study areas and finally assessed the influence of teachers’characteristics and teaching styles on students’achievement in secondary schools Civic Education and English Language.The study adopted Discriminant Analysis.The study sample consisted of 600 senior secondary school students,30 Civics teachers,and 30 English Language teachers that were selected using multi-stage sampling procedure.Four instruments were constructed and validated before use.Three research questions were asked and answered while one hypothesis was tested and verified.The results among others showed that more than 50%of the students that participated in the study had high status of achievement in Civic Education while more than 40%of English Language students that participated in the study had low status of achievement.The study also showed that teachers’characteristics pertinent to both Civic Education teachers and English Language teachers were,effective discipline skills(Civics,M=1.20,SD=0.407;English,M=1.40,SD=0.498)and good communication with parents(Civics,M=1.43,SD=0.504;English,M=1.40,SD=0.498).In addition,there was significant influence of teachers’characteristics and teaching styles on students’achievement in Civics and English Language in senior secondary schools(X^2(2)=16.37,p<0.05).The study concluded that teachers’characteristics and teaching styles are major determinants of students’achievement in Civic Education and English Language. 展开更多

Teachers’stereotypes of students affect teaching behaviour.Correctly perceiving stereotypes of international students helps teachers to understand the student population more deeply and adopt effective teaching behaviour.This study focuses on the stereotypes of international Chinese language teachers towards international students in Chinese universities and its impact on teachers’classroom management and students’classroom performance.Summarizing the findings,we conclude that international Chinese language teachers have both positive and negative stereotypes of the international student body,and that negative stereotypes account for more than positive stereotypes.On this basis,this study further discusses the importance of international Chinese language teachers being aware of the existence of stereotypes of international students,and makes suggestions to strengthen the positive influences and weaken the negative ones. 展开更多

Hence in order to gain a better understanding of the issue in Chinese senior high school context, the present research seeks to examine teachers' and students' attitudes and beliefs with respect to their perceived functions and effects in incorporating L1 in classrooms. In accordance with previous literature, The research indicated positive role of L1, especially in enhancing students' understanding of difficult concepts and creating comfortable learning environment. In addition, it is notable that, in difference from other studies, the National College Entrance Examination has exercised considerable influence on the perceptions of participants. 展开更多

Based on the framework of classroom teaching learning process analysis, this study explores the relationship between language proficiency and the acquisition of teaching knowledge in the sample of three English repetitive lessons in senior high school by two English student teachers. After quantitative and qualitative analysis, it was found that the higher the level of language, the greater the improvement of teaching knowledge;the student with high language level has made rapid progress in teaching design, slow progress in teaching management and student learning, while the progress of the student with low language level is slow in all aspects. Teachers’language modeling behaviors,including frequent conversation,open-ended questions,repetition and extension,self-and parallel talks,and advanced language,have significantly impacted young children’s language learning and development.This study examined 60 classrooms from 20 kindergartens in Guangzhou,China,and analyzed 62 films of daily activities and 57 videos of free play.It aims to address the research gap in existing research that pays little attention to teachers’language modeling behaviors in daily activities and free play.The results indicate that the more frequent teachers’language modeling behaviors,the larger the vocabulary young children use and the better their performance in lexical richness.However,such behaviors in daily activities and free play are infrequent and superficial,failing to guide young children’s language development effectively.To optimize teachers’language modeling behaviors in daily activities and free play,they are expected to establish positive emotional bonds with young children in a kind and respectful manner and receive training.Teachers are also encouraged to frequently communicate and engage in dialogues with young children,create contexts that facilitate the use of language,increase the frequency of stimuli for vocabulary learning,and guide and encourage young children’s advanced language. 展开更多

All of them were not able to speak Japanese, even the greetings; during lunch time they also had to eat some types of food they had never had before. Certainly, it was a daily battle against the unknown as they interfaced between two very different cultures. This support tutoring program was implemented in a Japanese public school in Taiwa Town, Miyagi Prefecture, and it aimed to create an adequate environment that could provide a teaching-learning process in the cognitive, emotional, and social aspects to prepare the students to live in Japan, as well as to prepare them for their return to Brazil in the future. 展开更多

为了解高校师生的信息焦虑状况,把握当前高校师生信息焦虑特征,快速识别风险人群并开展干预,在已有研究基础上完善高校师生信息焦虑量表,收集有效问卷1607份,并分析高校师生在疫情不同阶段的信息焦虑程度和维度及其转变。总体上高校师... 为了解高校师生的信息焦虑状况,把握当前高校师生信息焦虑特征,快速识别风险人群并开展干预,在已有研究基础上完善高校师生信息焦虑量表,收集有效问卷1607份,并分析高校师生在疫情不同阶段的信息焦虑程度和维度及其转变。总体上高校师生中度及重度信息焦虑占比约为64.1%,在信息检索、信息加工和信息利用维度均值较高。大学生信息焦虑各维度均值在不同阶段均高于高校教师。进入2023年之后,高校教师信息焦虑程度有所减轻,各维度均值有所下降,但大学生重度信息焦虑占比显著增加,且各维度均值都显著增加。高校可为不同群体提供有侧重的引导,加强对重度信息焦虑的干预,重视信息检索、加工和利用维度的提升。 展开更多

目的 了解护生对临床护理教师课程思政和有效教学行为的评价,为深入开展课程思政、改善临床教学行为提供依据。方法 采用临床护理教师课程思政评价调查表和临床护理教师有效教学行为问卷对158名结束实习的本科护生进行调查。结果 临床... 目的 了解护生对临床护理教师课程思政和有效教学行为的评价,为深入开展课程思政、改善临床教学行为提供依据。方法 采用临床护理教师课程思政评价调查表和临床护理教师有效教学行为问卷对158名结束实习的本科护生进行调查。结果 临床护理教师开展课程思政率仅为48.1%,有效教学行为问卷总均分(5.56±1.30)分,各维度得分由高到低依次为人际关系、对护生评价、专业水平、个性特征、教学水平。课程思政组有效教学行为及各维度得分均高于未实施课程思政组(均P<0.01)。结论 护生对临床护理教师课程思政评价低,教师课程思政内容、方式等方面均需改进;对教师有效教学行为评价中等偏上。以专业能力为基础选拔临床护理教师,建立持续、动态培训、激励机制,科室成立教学团队,凝练课程思政内容并全程融入带教过程,有助于临床护理教师有效教学行为的形成。 展开更多
