The large amplitude liquid slosh is included by using a moving pulsating ball model that is further improved to estimate the settling location of liquid in microgravity or a zero-g environment. The flexible appendage is modelled as a three-dimensional Bernoulli–Euler beam, and the assumed modal method is employed.A hybrid controller that combines sliding mode control with an adaptive algorithm is designed for spacecraft to perform attitude tracking. The proposed controller has proved to be asymptotically stable. A nonlinear model for the overall coupled system including spacecraft attitude dynamics, liquid slosh, structural vibration and control action is established. Numerical simulation results are presented to show the dynamic behaviors of the coupled system and to verify the effectiveness of the control approach when the spacecraft undergoes the disturbance produced by large amplitude slosh and appendage vibration. Lastly, the designed adaptive algorithm is found to be effective to improve the precision of attitude tracking.展开更多

The analytical solution for the relationship between forcing frequency and amplitude of vibration is obtained by Galerkin's method. Finally, the paper analyses the effect of the transverse shear on the vibration of the plate and gives the ratio of nonlinear period to linear period for nonlinear free vibration of the plate.展开更多

The structural-acoustic governing equations are employed to study this nonlinear problem. An elliptical integral method, which was recently developed for the nonlinear panel cavity problem, is introduced here to solve for the structural-acoustics responses. The present results agree reasonably well with those obtained from the classical harmonic balance method. Modal convergences of the nonlinear solutions are performed to verify the proposed method. The effects of vibration amplitude and leakage size are studied and discussed. It is found that (1) the edge leakages in a panel cavity system significantly affect the natural frequency properties, and (2) the edge leakages induce a low frequency acoustic resonance.展开更多

The dynamic mechanical properties during the sol-gel transition of gelatin followed the time-cure superposition. The fractal dimension df of the critical gel was estimated as 1.76, which indicated a loose network. A high sol fraction ws = 0.61 was evaluated from the plateau modulus by semi-empirical models. Strain-stiffening behavior was observed under large amplitude oscillatory shear(LAOS) for the gelatin gel. The strain and frequency dependence of the minimum strain modulus GM, energy dissipation Ed, and nonlinear viscoelastic parameter NE was illustrated in Pipkin diagrams and explained by the strain induced helix formation reported previously by others. The BST model described the strain-stiffening behavior of gelatin gel quite well, whereas the Gent and worm-like chain network models overestimated the strain-stiffening at large strains.展开更多

A new implementation of the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) and an ancient Chinese method called the max-rain approach are presented to obtain an approximate solution. The major concern is to assess the accuracy of these approximate methods in predicting the system response within a certain range of system parameters by examining their ability to establish an actual (numerical) solution. Therefore, the analytical results are compared with the numerical results to illustrate the effectiveness and convenience of the proposed methods.展开更多

The dynamic responses of TLP with slack-taut tether are studied with consideration of several nonlinear factors introduced by large amplitude motions. The time histories of stresses of tethers of a typical TLP in slack- taut state are given. In addition, the sensitivities of slack to stiffness and mass are investigated by varying the stiffness of tether and mass of TLP. It is found that slack is sensitive to the mass of TLP. The critical curved surfaces ( over which indicates the slack) for the increase of mass are obtained.展开更多
