A Survey into the Motivations of Adult English Learning

Adult English learners have their own unique characteristics. This research adopts a questionnaire consisting of 9 dimensions to explore their English learning motivations, which turn out to be mainly instrumental ones. And the author has postulated suggestions about adult English teaching.

The Application of“Problem-Based Learning+Flipped Classroom”Teaching Model in Bilingual Education

This study focuses on the application of the“PBL(problem-based learning)+Flipped Classroom”teaching model in bilingual education,aiming to explore its potential to enhance the quality and effectiveness of bilingual teaching.PBL emphasizes learning through the resolution of real-world problems,while the Flipped Classroom advocates that students acquire basic knowledge through self-study before class,dedicating class time to in-depth discussions and practical activities.The integration of these two teaching models in bilingual education aims to stimulate students’interest in learning,improve their autonomous learning abilities,enhance critical thinking,and foster cross-cultural communication skills.Through literature review,case analysis,and empirical research,this study first examines the current applications and challenges of PBL and the Flipped Classroom in bilingual education.Subsequently,it elaborates on the specific implementation steps of the“PBL+Flipped Classroom”teaching model in bilingual education,including problem design,preview material provision,cooperative learning,classroom activities,and language support.A comparative experiment is then conducted to analyze the impact of this teaching model on students’learning motivation,academic performance,and cross-cultural communication skills.The results indicate that the“PBL+Flipped Classroom”teaching model significantly improves students’learning motivation and participation,enhances academic performance,and effectively boosts their cross-cultural communication skills.Furthermore,this model aids in cultivating students’autonomous learning abilities and critical thinking,providing an innovative and effective approach to bilingual education.This study offers new ideas and insights for the field of bilingual education,which is of great significance for promoting the innovation and development of bilingual teaching models.

A Study on the Relationship between English Learning Motivation and Learning Effect

In order to explore the relationship between college students’English learning motivation and learning effect,this paper uses a questionnaire survey to investigate and analyze the English classroom learning motivation of first-year non-English majors.Based on the final English score,the paper analyzes the correlation between English learning motivation and learning effect.

The Training of Clinical English Learning Ability of Medical Students

Through investigation and research,this paper analyzes the needs and status quo of medical students’English learning,and makes a correlation analysis between them.This paper uses the strategy of questionnaire survey and take the actual medicalstudents in our country as the survey object,and uses two-dimensional model of Oxford and three-dimensional model of O’Malleyand Chamot statistical method to get the final conclusion.The results show that the high score group students show stronger internallearning motivation,the choice of cognitive strategies shows a strong sense of autonomy and responsibility,while the low score stu-dents mainly show external learning motivation,in the specific learning process,they rely more on mechanical imitation and ignorethe cultivation of creative thinking.

Correlation between Learning Characteristics and Ability of Art and Design Students in Vocational Colleges

This paper introduced the current situation and development background of art and design vocational education in China, especially the relationship between learning characteristics and ability of art and design students in vocational colleges. The approaches of overcoming the inclination to utilitarianism and aesthetic deficiency in art and design education of Chinese higher vocational colleges should be explored from the perspective of learning motivation, strategy and ability, so as to propose countermeasures to improve learning ability of art and design students in vocational colleges.

Research on the Relationship Between Learning Motivation and Neural Activity in the Learning Process of Instructional Video:A NIRS Study

As the intrinsic driving force to promote learner’s learning,learning motivation is one of the key factors that affect learning engagement and efficiency.In terms of optimizing instructional videos and strengthening learning effects,it is particularly important to understand the cognitive neural mechanism and influencing factors of the changes of learning motivation.By using the near-infrared spectrometer technology,the paper has collected the state of neural activity while learners were learning different instructional videos,and has analyzed the relationship between the learning motivation of instructional videos and the state of neural activity in the learning process from the angle of cognitive neuroscience.It is found that both the intrinsic and extrinsic learning motivation of instructional videos will affect the state of neural activity in the learning process;the learning process will also affect the intensity of learning motivation,while the preparation of fine instructional videos will also cause the transfer of learning motivation.

The Development and Influence of RCPS Instructions to Promote Students＇ Scientific Learning Motivation and Scientific Concept Learning

This research aims at developing RCPS （revised creative problem solving） teaching model, besides the authors designed the instructions of chemical reaction to promote eight grade students＇ scientific learning motivation and scientific concept learning. We adopted quasi-experiment study, the experimental group and controlled group all 28 students were chose, go on the parameter is analyzed together compared with textbook instructions, scale of scientific learning motivation and test of scientific conception learning were used for the two groups in prior test and post test, then they used statistical ANCOVA （analysis of covariance） to analyze the differences between the two teaching models. The result of this study finds that RCPS teaching model improved student＇s scientific learning motivation and learning scientific concept was superior to textbook instructions in controlled group, p = 0.001 （〈 0.01）, and all with high experimental treatment effects （〉 0.14）. The study also proposes that when RCPS teaching model was applied to scientific concept teaching, RCPS teaching model should be joined the conception introducing stage, and pay attention to students＇ scientific learning motivation.

A case study of changing motivation in foreign language learning

After perceiving a common phenomenon of English learning at college in China, this paper presents a case study of motivation. In this study, a questionnaire is conducted twice among 156 Chinese college students when they are sophomores and seniors. It intends to identify some components of foreign language learning motivation and probes into the causes for the changing motivations of students throughout 4-year college education. The findings suggest that the instrumental motivation plays a crucial role in foreign language learning context.

Cultivating Students＇ Reflective Learning Ability in College English Teaching

This paper aims to explore whether reflective learning ability can be fostered and nurtured with special instruction and whether it can enhance students＇ motivation of learning English. The experiment lasted four months, taking two parallel classes of the sophomore students at English major in Ningbo Dahongying University as the subjects. The results show that students can raise their awareness of reflective thinking and acquire reflective learning ability with teachers＇ instruction, and the two reflective activities （writing reflective journals and peer-evaluation） are very effective to increase students＇ motivation of learning English and improve their academic performances in English study.

An Empirical Study on the Improvement of College Students＇ Learning Motivation

Combined with the actual work of universities, to build a harmonious teacher teaching, needs feedback and students＇ practice＂. To build organic whole work program is by ＂thought leading, an application platform based on innovation and entrepreneurship from the perspective of students＇ learning motivation and learning needs, helps the student strengthen the learning ability construction. Through improving students＇ work and learning ability, they will be willing to learn.

The Effects of Online Teaching on EFL Students’Learning Motivation

This study investigates the positive and negative effects of online teaching on EFL students’learning motivation.There are 26 English majors in a Chinese university participant in this study.Data were collected from multiple sources:semi-structured interview and direct observation.The result shows that in the course aspect,it has a positive effect.In the teacher aspect,it has both negative and positive effects.But in the learning group aspect,it has a negative effect,because of losing of students’interaction.

A Study on the Impact of A spherical video-based virtual reality on Teaching English Writing Guided by Experiential Learning Circle Theory

English as an international language,English writing is a very important skill as an important form of language output,which is not only an important means of expressing emotions and awareness,but also reflects the ability to use language in an integrated way.In language teaching,the development of English writing skills is an important and challenging teaching task.English writing language is expressed not only at the basic level of vocabulary,grammar,and sentence structure,but also at the higher-order level of text organization,logical reasoning,and argumentation.However,in traditional English writing teaching,students usually do not have the opportunity to have an in-depth experience of the context of the topic,which leads to a lack of motivation and poor writing results.Therefore,this study developed an SVVR learning system based on spherical video-based virtual reality(SVVR)technology and conducted a quasi-experiment in a university English major classroom.The results of the study showed that the SVVR-supported approach to English writing could improve students'writing performance,enrich writing content,and increase learning motivation.

A Survey of Learning Motivation among Junior and Senior English Majors in Non-governmental Universities——A Case Study in Ningbo Dahongying University

Motivation is an important factor to English learning,it plays an important role.In this thesis,the instrument used in the study is a questionnaire,and this thesis was conducted on December 5th,2016 at Ningbo Dahongying University involving 182 students.Based on the questionnaire investigation,this thesis discusses the learning motivation of English major juniors and seniors in Ningbo Dahongying University from the motivation types,factors and strategies.

How can a Student of Non-English Major Find his/her Own Way of Learning English

Analysis of the current situation of non-English majors in learning English.Applied with learning motivation theory,pointing out the factors that influence the efficiency of learning,a set of methods are proposed to help non-English majors find their own way of learning English,in attempt to help them learn English more efficiently.

The Influence of Parent-Child Relationship on Pupils’ Learning Motivation: The Mediating Role of Teacher-Student Relationship

Objective:The study is to analyze the influence of parent-child relationship on pupils’learning motivation,and to explore the mediating mechanism of teacher-student relationship in parent-child relationship and learning motivation.Method:This study conducted a questionnaire survey on 213 pupils in Grades 5 and 6 in two schools in Beijing using Pianta’s teacher-student relationship scale revised by Qu,Dornbush’s parent-child intimacy scale revised by Zhang and the learning motivation scale adapted by Hu.Results:Gender,grade,whether they are the only child and to be a class cadre or not show significant differences in some dimensions of parent-child relationship,teacher-student relationship and learning motivation.The total scores of parent-child relationship,teacher-student relationship and learning motivation are positively correlated,and some sub dimensions are also significantly correlated.Parent-child relationship and teacher-student relationship have a significant positive predictive effect on learning motivation,and parent-child relationship has a significant positive predictive effect on teacher-student relationship.Teacher-student relationship plays a mediating role in the influence of parent-child relationship on learning motivation.Conclusions:Parent-child relationship can promote the relationship between teachers and students,and then enhance pupils’learning motivation.

Discussion on Using Classroom Teaching in Satisfying Students’Emotional Needs and Stimulating Their Interest in Learning

The English Curriculum Standards particularly emphasize that“we should pay attention to the emotions of each student,cultivate their interest in learning English,help them build a sense of achievement and self-confidence in learning,and enable them to develop comprehensive language-using capabilities,improve humanistic qualities,enhance practical skills,and cultivate a spirit of innovation in the learning process.”The foreign language learning process is an information-processing process in which both subjective and objective factors play a great influence.Subjective factors are factors related to the quality of the informant himself,such as cognitive factors,affective factors,and age influence,among which the influence and role of affective factors on foreign language information cannot be ignored.In the teaching process,it is required that teachers use the knowledge of pedagogical psychology for the in-depth understanding of the students and their psychological and emotional needs,and attempt to satisfy them,so that they can have positive emotions and feelings.

The Effects of Reading Anxiety and Learning Motivation on EFL Stu⁃ dents’Incidental Vocabulary Acquisition During Reading

This study explores the effects of two affective factors,reading anxiety and learning motivation on incidental vocabulary acquisition(IVA)under Chinese context.Fifty-two sophomores form a comprehensive university in southern China were enrolled in this study;data were collected through questionnaires,IVA test,and semi-structured interviews.This study identified the signifi⁃cant relationship between IVA and learning motivation but reading anxiety was non-significant.The findings contributed empirical evidence to the effects of affective factors on Chinese students’incidental vocabulary acquisition.

Correlation between the senses of achievement and students＇ motivations at tertiary level in China

Educators and teachers generally agree that a major variable affecting students learning L2 or FL is motivation. This paper discusses the correlation between increasing the sense of achievement and sustaining students＇ motivations in a Chinese cultural setting, in which language learning should not be understood in terms of North American and Western cultural values. Considering EFL or ElL situations at a tertiary education level in China's Mainland, the author thinks that for university students, we should consider this issue in another way and concludes that, from the adults＇ psychological perspective, the sense of achievement, more than any other factor, plays the most important role in sustaining students＇ motivations, thus contributing greatly to the whole process of learning. Therefore, it should be viewed as a very useful and effective method to maintain students＇ motivations. Based on this idea, the author strongly suggests that while they are capitalizing on some effective methods or strategies to foster and maintain their students＇ motivations, EFL or ElL teachers should try every means and utilize any occasion to ensure that students can feel their achievement and see progress during the advanced level of learning, thus guaranteeing they will keep expending energy and effort in continued learning.

Based on a survey and some language experts＇ points of view about the motivation of Chinese university students, this article tries to deal with two issues： what kind of motivation does Chinese University students have and how can a teacher positively affect the motivation of his or her students？

Strengths and Drawbacks of Blended Learning for Second Language Learning

This paper discusses the strengths and drawbacks of blended language learning.There exists a great debate about what constitutes blended learning.By considering its advantages and disadvantages,we contend that there is a need for higher education to embrace blended learning in order to increase educational opportunities and improve learning outcomes.In order to support this argument,this paper addresses the transformative potential of blended learning based on recommendations for class redesign from previous studies.This paper then concludes by providing an agenda for further research.
