Post-myocardial infarction(MI),the left ventricle(LV)undergoes a series of events collectively referred to as remodeling.As a result,damaged myocardium is replaced with fibrotic tissue consequently leading to contract...Post-myocardial infarction(MI),the left ventricle(LV)undergoes a series of events collectively referred to as remodeling.As a result,damaged myocardium is replaced with fibrotic tissue consequently leading to contractile dysfunction and ultimately heart failure.LV remodeling post-MI includes inflammatory,fibrotic,and neovascularization responses that involve regulated cell recruitment and function.Stem cells(SCs)have been transplanted post-MI for treatment of LV remodeling and shown to improve LV function by reduction in scar tissue formation in humans and animal models of MI.The promising results obtained from the application of SCs post-MI have sparked a massive effort to identify the optimal SC for regeneration of cardiomyocytes and the paradigm for clinical applications.Although SC transplantations are generally associated with new tissue formation,SCs also secrete cytokines,chemokines and growth factors that robustly regulate cell behavior in a paracrine fashion during the remodeling process.In this review,the different types of SCs used for cardiomyogenesis,markers of differentiation,paracrine factor secretion,and strategies for cell recruitment and delivery are addressed.展开更多
Objective: To investigate the electrophysiology effects and mechanism of iron overload on the slow response autorhythmic cells in the left ventricular outflow tract of guinea pigs.Methods: Standard microelectrode cell...Objective: To investigate the electrophysiology effects and mechanism of iron overload on the slow response autorhythmic cells in the left ventricular outflow tract of guinea pigs.Methods: Standard microelectrode cell recording techniques were adopted to observe the electrophysiological effects of different concentrations of Fe^(2+)(100 μmol/L, 200 μmol/L) on the left ventricular outflow tract autorhythmic cells.Heart tissues were perfused with FeSO_4(200 μmol/L) combing with CaCl_2(4.2 mmol/L), Verapamil,(1 μmol/L), and nickel chloride(200μmol/L) respectively to observe the influences of these contents on electrophysiology of FeSO_4(200μmol/L) on the left ventricular outflow tract autorhythmic cells.Results: Fe^(2+)at both 100 μmol/L and 200 μmol/L could change the electrophysiological parameters of the slow response autorhythmic cells of the left ventricular outflow tract in a concentrationdependent manner resulting into decrease in Vmax, APA and MDP, slower RPF and VDD, and prolonged APD_(50) and APD_(90)(P all <0.05).Besides, perfusion of increased Ca^(2+) concentration could partially offset the electrophysiological effects of Fe^(2+)(200 μmol/L).The L-type calcium channel(LTCC) blocker Verapamil(1 μmol/L) could block the electrophysiological effects of Fe^(2+)(200 μmol/L).But the T-type calcium channel(TTCC) blocker nickel chloride(NiCl_2, 200 μmol/L) could not block the electrophysiological effects of Fe^(2+)(200 μmol/L).Conclusions: Fe^(2+) can directly change the electrophysiological characteristics of the slow response autorhythmic cells of the left ventricular outflow tract probably through the L-type calcium channel.展开更多

The control group consisting of 11 guinea pigs was given normal food, normal water and injected with normal saline. The left ventricular outflow tract model specimen was also prepared. The standard microelectrode technique was used to observe electrophysiological changes of autonomic cells in the outflow tract of left ventricular heart failure complicated with iron deficiency anemia in guinea pig model. The indicators of observation were maximal diastolic potential, action potential amplitude, 0 phase maximal depolarization velocity, 4 phase automatic depolarization velocity, repolarization 50% and 90%, and spontaneous discharge frequency.Results: Compared with the control group, 4 phase automatic depolarization velocity,spontaneous discharge frequency and 0 phase maximal depolarization velocity decreased significantly(P < 0.01) and action potential amplitude reduced(P < 0.01) in model group. Moreover, repolarization 50% and 90% increased(P < 0.01).Conclusions: There are electrophysiological abnormalities of the left ventricular outflow tract in guinea pigs with iron deficiency anemia complicated with heart failure.展开更多
Objective To evaluate the predictive value of red cell distribution width (RDW) on left atrial thrombus (LAT) or left atrial spontane- ous echo contrast (LASEC) in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation ...Objective To evaluate the predictive value of red cell distribution width (RDW) on left atrial thrombus (LAT) or left atrial spontane- ous echo contrast (LASEC) in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods We reviewed 692 patients who were diagnosed as non-valvular AF and underwent transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in Guangdong Cardiovascular Institute from April 2014 to December 2015. The baseline clinical characteristics, laboratory test of blood routine, electrocardiograph measurements were analyzed. Results Eighty-four patients were examined with LAT/LASEC under TEE. The mean RDW level was significantly higher in LAT/LASEC patients compared with the non-LAT/LASEC patients (13.59% ± 1.07% ws. 14.34% ± 1.34%; P 〈 0.001). Receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis was performed and indicated the best RDW cut point was 13.16%. Furthermore, multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that RDW level 〉 13.16% could be an independent risk factor for LAT/LASEC in patients with AF. Conclusion Elevated RDW level is associated with the presence of LAT/LASEC and could be with moderate predictive value for LAT/LASEC in patients with non-valvular AF.展开更多

Both the distributed and lumped cases are considered. The dispersion diagram and transmission properties of the dual CRLH TL are given and compared with those of a standard CRLH TL. Contrary to the frequency response of a standard CRLH TL, a dual CRLH TL has a left-handed (negative phase shift) band at higher frequencies and a right-handed (positive phase shift) band at lower frequencies. BACKGROUND Squamous cell carcinoma(SCC)of the liver is rare,and is more commonly found in the skin,rectum,cervical or inguinal lymph nodes.CASE SUMMARY A 73-year-old man had been experiencing right upper quadrant disc...BACKGROUND Squamous cell carcinoma(SCC)of the liver is rare,and is more commonly found in the skin,rectum,cervical or inguinal lymph nodes.CASE SUMMARY A 73-year-old man had been experiencing right upper quadrant discomfort for some weeks.He had a 50-year history of smoking and drinking.On average,he smoked 20 cigarettes and consumed 200 galcoholdaily.He didn’t have a history of hepatitis or surgery.Fever,vomiting,jaundice,dysuria,chills,and abdominal distention were not observed at the time of admission.Tenderness in the right upper quadrant was found on physical examination,but there was no palpable abdominal mass.No obvious abnormalities in laboratory tests and tumor markers were found.The plasma retention rate of indocyanine green(ICG)at 15 min was 1.35%.Subsequent abdominal ultrasonography showed a mixed echoic mass approximately 3.8 cm diameter in the left caudate lobe of the liver.Abdominal computed tomography confirmed a 3.0 cm×3.5 cm irregular mass with inhomogeneous density and moderate delayed enhancement in the left caudate lobe of the liver.Laparoscopic left caudate lobectomy was performed to remove the liver mass.Intra-operative findings confirmed a non-cirrhotic liver,with a 3 cm×3.5 cm white tumor mass in the left caudate lobe with no tumor rupture and no hemoperitoneum.The resection margin was 1.0 cm in width.CONCLUSION We describe the first case of SCC in the left caudate lobe of the liver,which was successfully treated by surgical resection and postoperative immunotherapy.No tumor recurrence was observed during the 8-mo follow-up.展开更多
A bandwidth microwave second harmonic generator is successfully designed using composite right/left-handed non- linear transmission lines (CRLH NLTLs) in a GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) techn...A bandwidth microwave second harmonic generator is successfully designed using composite right/left-handed non- linear transmission lines (CRLH NLTLs) in a GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) technology. The structure parameters of CRLH NLTLs, e.g. host transmission line, rectangular spiral inductor, and nonlinear capacitor, have a great impact on the second harmonic performance enhancement in terms of second harmonic frequency, output power, and conversion efficiency. It has been experimentally demonstrated that the second harmonic frequency is deter- mined by the anomalous dispersion of CRLH NLTLs and can be significantly improved by effectively adjusting these structure parameters. A good agreement between the measured and simulated second harmonic performances of Ka-band CRLH NLTLs frequency multipliers is successfully achieved, which further validates the design approach of frequency multipliers on CRLH NLTLs and indicates the potentials of CRLH NLTLs in terms of the generation of microwave and millimeter-wave signal source.展开更多
