Its effectiveness has been observed in many countries across the globe, where it is a traditional practice, and is now being encouraged across the African continent. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of FMNR on floristic Composition, Vegetation Structure, and Regeneration Status of woody Plant Species in the severely degraded Central Rift, Kenya. The study systematically assessed how FMNR influenced species composition, vegetation structure and regeneration status from two sample plots involved in FMNR practices. Transect lines and quadrats methods were utilized to collect data, specifically regarding the floristic composition, vegetation structure, and regeneration status of woody plant species. Quadrats and sub-quadrats of varying sizes (10 m by 10 m, 5 m by 5 m, and 1 m by 1 m) were nested along the transect lines for data collection. Furthermore, measurements of tree growth and development, including root collar diameter, diameter at breast height (D130) and heights within the study blocks, were taken. The data was then analyzed using R-software. Results showed a marked progressive increase in numbers of trees, saplings, seedlings, shrubs and herbs in all FMNR sites and reductions in all non-FMNR sites. The study advocates for widespread promotion of the FMNR practice both as an environmental conservation and restoration strategy.展开更多

Design/methodology/approach: Records retrieved from Web of Science were submitted to author co-citation analysis(ACA) following a longitudinal perspective as of the following time slices: 1986–1996, 1997–2006, and 2007–2015. The top 10% of most cited first authors by sub-periods were mapped in bibliometric networks in order to interpret the communities formed and their relationships.Findings: KM is a homogeneous field as indicated by networks results. Nine classical authors are identified since they are highly co-cited in each sub-period, highlighting Ikujiro Nonaka as the most influential authors in the field. The most significant communities in KM are devoted to strategic management, KM foundations, organisational learning and behaviour, and organisational theories. Major trends in the evolution of the intellectual structure of KM evidence a technological influence in 1986–1996, a strategic influence in 1997–2006, and finally a sociological influence in 2007–2015.Research limitations: Describing a field from a single database can offer biases in terms of output coverage. Likewise, the conference proceedings and books were not used and the analysis was only based on first authors. However, the results obtained can be very useful to understand the evolution of KM research.Practical implications: These results might be useful for managers and academicians to understand the evolution of KM field and to(re)define research activities and organisational projects.Originality/value: The novelty of this paper lies in considering ACA as a bibliometric technique to study KM research. In addition, our investigation has a wider time coverage than earlier articles.展开更多

To meet those challenges, a performance-based life-cycle management model for reinforced concrete structures was proposed in this paper. This model predicts the life-cycle performance of infrastructure based on the corrosion-induced deterioration mechanism: condition index as well as performance limit states. A case study is provided to demonstrate the use of the proposed performance-based life-cycle cost management model.展开更多

The organizational structure of the enterprise is a basic component of the general structure of the company and reflects the “anatomy of the enterprise” and the way of its conception, detailing, and implementation directly influence the activities required to achieve the objectives of the enterprise. On closer examination of a series of organizational charts of real estate management companies, the author observed a tendency to use organizational structures that are inefficient. The main objectives of this article are to bring into the practice of real estate management a model of beneficial organizational structure, both for the real estate management companies and for the construction companies that, besides the building activity, also deal with the management of their own real estate, and to emphasize the particular importance of the organizational structure of the company. The appreciation of the organizational structure represents the process of knowledge, understanding, and explanation of the existing situation through a detailed analysis of the factors that influence its condition through: the enterprise development strategy;the type and complexity of services;the size of the enterprise;the quality of human resources;the changes that take place in the external environment of the company, and last but not least, the legal framework and the statutes of the enterprise.展开更多

The algorithm utilizes the fuzzy variable structure control algorithm with delay factor to compensate time varying round-trip times (RTT) and uncertainties with respect to the number of active TCP sessions. By analyzing the robustness and performance of the control scheme for the nonlinear TCP/AQM model, we show that the proposed design has good performance and robustness, which are central to the notion of AQM. Implementation issues were discussed and ns simulations were provided to validate the design and compare its performance to other peer schemes in different scenarios. The results show that the proposed design significantly outperforms the other congestion schemes in terms of packet loss ratio, throughput and buffer fluctuation.展开更多

In addition, our investigation has a wider time coverage than earlier articles.

文摘Species composition, structure, regeneration, and management status of Jorgo-Wato Forest(JWF)was studied.Number of individuals, diameter at breast height(dbh)and height of woody species(dbh≥2.5 cm)were counted and measured in each plot.Group discussions with local farmers residing around JWF were carried out to understand the management of the JWF.Forest structural attributes were computed using descriptive statistics;correlation was used to assess relationships between the structural variables.A total of 4313 individuals(dbh≥2.5 cm)with a density of 1477 ha-1 were recorded, the number of species and individuals decreasing with increasing dbh classes.Species with the highest Importance Value Index(IVI)were Pouteria adolfifriedericii(37.7),Syzygium guineense subsp.afromontanum(23.6),Dracaena afromontana(20.5),Chionanthus mildbraedii(15.9),and Croton macrostachyus(12.3).Overall distribution of woody plants across size classes exhibited a reverse J-pattern,suggesting a healthy population structure and good regeneration.Nevertheless, some species were not represented in smaller diameter classes, including juvenile phases, which indicate a lack of regeneration. For these species, monitoring and enrichment planting would be necessary, along with curbing illegal cutting and coffee farming in the natural forest.Management interventions in the JWF need to consider livelihood options and to respect the rights of local communities.
文摘The increasing stocks of public infrastructure and serious deterioration of infrastructure systems due to corrosion present great financial, safety, technical and operational challenges to government organizations in charge of public infrastructure development and management. To meet those challenges, a performance-based life-cycle management model for reinforced concrete structures was proposed in this paper. This model predicts the life-cycle performance of infrastructure based on the corrosion-induced deterioration mechanism: condition index as well as performance limit states. A case study is provided to demonstrate the use of the proposed performance-based life-cycle cost management model.
文摘The article represents research on ways to make the management of real estate companies more efficient, starting from their structural organization. The appreciation of the organizational structure represents the process of knowledge, understanding, and explanation of the existing situation through a detailed analysis of the factors that influence its condition through: the enterprise development strategy;the type and complexity of services;the size of the enterprise;the quality of human resources;the changes that take place in the external environment of the company, and last but not least, the legal framework and the statutes of the enterprise.
文摘Based on the linearized model of the TCP connections through the congested routers, this paper puts forward an active queue management algorithm (FVS-T). The results show that the proposed design significantly outperforms the other congestion schemes in terms of packet loss ratio, throughput and buffer fluctuation.

文摘In the engineering database system, multiple versions of a design including engineering drawings should be managed efficiently. The paper proposes an efficient spatial data structure, that is an expansion of the R tree and HR tree, for version management of engineering drawings. A novel mechanism to manage the difference between drawings is introduced to the HR tree to eliminate redundant duplications and to reduce the amount of storage required for the data structure. Data management mechanism and structural properties of our data structure called the MVR + tree are described.

文摘Land is the space carrier for the existence and flow of other development factors.Activating rural land and promoting the circulation of other development factors through land management innovation is necessary to realize rural vitalization. This paper identifies the connotation of factor flow in the rural vitalization context, the action mechanism of land management innovation to boost the flow of development factors, the issues and obstacles restricting factor circulation, and the realization mechanism of the flow of development factors in rural vitalization.Based on the analytic paradigm constructed in the paper, the successful practice of promoting the flow of development factors through innovative land management in a model village is examined. The results show that:1)the unreasonable systems characterized by the land use system in rural areas are the main obstacles causing circulation issues in development factors. It is essential to engage in comprehensive reform to break down these long-lasting obstacles to the smooth flow of development factors.2)The land should play a leading role in the circulation of development factors in the background of rural vitalization;the main purpose of land management innovation is to activate the land factor, thereby promoting the circulation of other factors.3)The activated land factor will act as a‘trigger’to promote capital and technology in rural settings and use capital and technology to attract the inflow of talents and the return of migrant workers, whereby the population factor will act as a‘catalyst’for the cultivation of rural culture, bringing about the integration of various development factors.4)The innovation of land use and management, increased funding, and new technologies have brought multiple talents to Tengtou Village. The high-frequency mutual feedback between the village’s own and the external development factors resulted in its successful integration of industrial development.
文摘Italy is characterized by widespread geomorphological instability, among which landslides leave impressive marks on the landscape.Nevertheless, landslide bodies may represent key sites for thematic and educational itineraries, especially in protected areas, where their management becomes an important issue. Our study focuses on the"Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve"(Central Apennines,Italy),where iconic landslides are present. Here, the"Scialimata Grande di Torre Alfina"landslide(SGTA)is listed in the regional Geosite database. This work aims to propose a multiscale procedure for landslide analysis,in terms of both hazard sources but also educational and geoheritage enhancement opportunities in natural reserves. After performing a Landslide Susceptibility conditional Analysis(LSA)for the reserve territory, attention was focused on the SGTA,to define properly its features and morphodynamics.A multi-disciplinary approach was adopted,by applying both remote sensing(UAV structure from motion,Photointerpretation)and field survey(geomorphological and GPS monitoring). From the LSA,based on drainage density, curvature, and slope triggering factors, the road and trail susceptibility maps were derived,as base tools for future risk assessments and trail paths management within the reserve. At the SGTA scale, the monitoring showed a displacement of up to 23 m during the time interval between 2015 and 2018.The landslide dynamics seem to be driven by alternating dry and extremely wet periods;moreover, leaks from the aqueduct in the detachment area and piping effects through clays may have also decreased the substrate cohesion. The SGTA complex influence on the Paglia River valley geometry was also hypothesized, underlining the action of landslide through different spatial scales(on-site and off-site)and on different environment features(sediment connectivity, hydrology). Finally, the SGTA appears highly representative of the geomorphic dynamics within the Nature Reserve(i.e.,scientific value)and it could be classified as an active geosite.Since the site was featured by a tourist trail, adequate management strategies must be adopted, considering the educational value and safety issues.

文摘Single-species management ignores the interactions between species, and ecosystem-based fisheries management(EBFM)has become a main method to fisheries management.Understanding food web structures and species interactions is essential for the implementation of EBFM and maintenance of ecosystem functions.Overfishing is one of the main reasons behind the depletion, which could even lead to the depletion of some target species in local areas. So understanding the impacts of species depletion on food web structures is important for the implementation of EBFM.The impacts of species depletion can be transmitted through the food web and cause the local extinction of both target and non-target species. In this study, topological network analysis was applied to examine the impacts of species depletion on the food web structure of Haizhou Bay.Results showed that fine crayfish Leptochela gracilis, squid Loligo sp.,and Japanese snapping shrimp Alpheus japonicus have the highest numbers of outgoing links(48,32 and 31 respectively);thus, these species may be considered key prey species.Whitespotted conger Conger myriaster, fat greenling Hexagrammos otakii, and bluefin gurnard Chelidonichthys kumu were key predators with the highest number of incoming links(37,36 and 35 respectively). The competition graphs derived from the Haizhou Bay food web were highly connected(more than 40%predators sharing over 10 common prey species),and showed close trophic interaction between high trophic level fishes.Simulation analysis showed that the food web structure has small changes to the depletion of species in a highly complex food web.The most-connected target species did not necessarily indicate high structural importance;however, some species with low connectivity may demonstrate stronger trophic interactions and play important ecological roles in the food web.But most species were more sensitive to the depletion of the most-connected target species than other target species(for instance, for zooplankton, closeness centrality 13.876 in D6,but closeness centrality 82.143 in original food web). Therefore,EBFM should focus on the most-connected target species, but also on those species with few but strong links and feeding relationships in the food web.
