Evaluation of Moving Grid Adjustment (MGA) Method in Field Variation Control

Spatial variation is often encountered when large scale field trials are conducted which can result in biased estimation or prediction of treatment (i.e. genotype) values. An effective removal of spatial variation is needed to ensure unbiased estimation or prediction and thus increase the accuracy of field data evaluation. A moving grid adjustment (MGA) method, which was proposed by Technow, was evaluated through Monte Carlo simulation for its statistical properties regarding field spatial variation control. Our simulation results showed that the MGA method can effectively account for field spatial variation if it does exist;however, this method will not change phenotype results if field spatial variation does not exist. The MGA method was applied to a large-scale cotton field trial data set with two representative agronomic traits: lint yield (strong field spatial pattern) and lint percentage (no field spatial pattern). The results suggested that the MGA method was able to effectively separate the spatial variation including blocking effects from random error variation for lint yield while the adjusted data remained almost identical to the original phenotypic data. With application of the MGA method, the estimated variance for residuals was significantly reduced (62.2% decrease) for lint yield while more genetic variation (29.7% increase) was detected compared to the original data analysis subject to the conventional randomized complete block design analysis. On the other hand, the results were almost identical for lint percentage with and without the application of the MGA method. Therefore, the MGA method can be a useful addition to enhance data analysis when field spatial pattern exists. 展开更多

Control of such processes with conventional control methods could lead to unstable, suboptimal, etc., results. On the other hand, the adaptive control is a technique widely used for controlling of nonlinear systems. The approach here is based on the recursive identification of the external linear model as a linear representation of the originally nonlinear system. The controller then reacts to the change of the working point or disturbances which could occur by the change of the parameters, structure, etc. The polynomial synthesis together with the linear quadratic(LQ) approach is employed here for the controller synthesis. These techniques satisfy basic control requirements such as the stability, the reference signal tracking and the disturbance attenuation. Resulted controller could be tuned with the choice of weighting factors in LQ approach. This work investigates the effect of these factors on control results. Proposed methods are tested on the mathematical model of the isothermal continuous stirred-tank reactor and simulated results are also verified on the real model of the continuous stirred tank reactor. 展开更多

The problem of state feedback controllers for a class of Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) Lipschitz nonlinear systems is investigated. A simple systematic and useful synthesis method is proposed based on the use of the differential mean value theorem (DMVT) and convex theory. The proposed design approach is based on the mean value theorem (MVT) to express the nonlinear error dynamics as a convex combination of known matrices with time varying coefficients as linear parameter varying (LPV) systems. Using the Lyapunov theory, stability conditions are obtained and expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The controller gains are then obtained by solving linear matrix inequalities. The effectiveness of the proposed approach for closed loop-field oriented control (CL-FOC) of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drives is demonstrated through an illustrative simulation for the proof of these approaches. Furthermore, an extension for controller design with parameter uncertainties and perturbation performance is discussed. 展开更多

Crop seeds are important sources of protein, oil, and carbohydrates for food, animal feeds, and industrial products. Recently, much attention has been paid to quality and functional properties of crop seeds. However, seed traits possess some distinct genetic characteristics in comparison with plant traits, which increase the difficulty of genetically improving these traits. In this study, diallel analysis for seed models with genotype by environment interaction (GE) effect was applied to estimate the variance-covariance components of seed traits. Mixed linear model approaches were used to estimate the genetic covariances between pair-wise seed and plant traits. The breeding values (BV) were divided into two categories for the seed models. The first category of BV was defined as the combination of direct additive, cytoplasmic, and maternal additive effects, which should be utilized for selecting stable cultivars over multi-environments. The three genetic effects, together with their GE interaction, were included in the second category of BV for selecting special lines to be grown in specific ecosystems. Accordingly, two types of selection indices for seed traits, i.e., general selection index and interaction selection index, were developed and constructed on the first and the second category BV, respectively. These proposed selection indices can be applied to solve the difficult task of simultaneously improving multiple seed traits in various environments. Data of crop seeds with regard to four seed traits and four yield traits based on the modified diallel crosses in Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) were used as an example for demonstrating the proposed methodology. 展开更多

A novel turbofan Direct Thrust Control(DTC)architecture based on Linear ParameterVarying(LPV)approach for a two-spool turbofan engine thrust control is proposed in this paper.Instead of transforming thrust command to shaft speed command and pressure ratio command,the thrust will be directly controlled by an optimal controller with two control variables.LPV model of the engine is established for the designing of thrust estimator and controller.A robust LPV H∞filter is introduced to estimate the unmeasurable thrust according to measurable engine states.The thrust estimation error system is proved to be Affinely Quadratically Stable(AQS)in the whole parameter box with a prescribed H∞performance indexγ.Due to the existence of overdetermined equations,the solving of controller parameters is a multi-solution problem.Therefore,Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)algorithm is used to optimize the controller parameters to obtain satisfactory control performance based on the engine’s LPV model.Numerical simulations show that the thrust estimator can acquire smooth and accurate estimating results when sensor noise exists.The optimal controller can receive desired control performance both in steady and transition control tasks within the engine working states above the idle,verifying the effectiveness of the proposed DTC architecture’s application in thrust direct control problem. 展开更多
