The rock matrix bulk modulus or its inverse, the compressive coefficient, is an important input parameter for fluid substitution by the Biot-Gassmann equation in reservoir prediction. However, it is not easy to accurately estimate the bulk modulus by using conventional methods. In this paper, we present a new linear regression equation for calculating the parameter. In order to get this equation, we first derive a simplified Gassmann equation by using a reasonable assumption in which the compressive coefficient of the saturated pore fluid is much greater than the rock matrix, and, second, we use the Eshelby- Walsh relation to replace the equivalent modulus of a dry rock in the Gassmann equation. Results from the rock physics analysis of rock sample from a carbonate area show that rock matrix compressive coefficients calculated with water-saturated and dry rock samples using the linear regression method are very close (their error is less than 1%). This means the new method is accurate and reliable. 展开更多

Cyclotomic sequences have good cryptographic properties and are closely related to difference sets.This paper proposes a new class of binary generalized cyclotomic sequences of order two and length pqr.Its linear complexity,minimal polynomial,and autocorrelation are investigated.The results show that these sequences have a large linear complexity when 2∈D1,which means they can resist the Berlekamp-Massey attack.Furthermore,the autocorrelation values are close to 0 with a probability of approximately 1?1/r.Therefore,when r is a big prime,the new sequence has a good autocorrelation. 展开更多

Accurate classification and prediction of future traffic conditions are essential for developing effective strategies for congestion mitigation on the highway systems. Speed distribution is one of the traffic stream parameters, which has been used to quantify the traffic conditions. Previous studies have shown that multi-modal probability distribution of speeds gives excellent results when simultaneously evaluating congested and free-flow traffic conditions. However, most of these previous analytical studies do not incorporate the influencing factors in characterizing these conditions. This study evaluates the impact of traffic occupancy on the multi-state speed distribution using the Bayesian Dirichlet Process Mixtures of Generalized Linear Models (DPM-GLM). Further, the study estimates the speed cut-point values of traffic states, which separate them into homogeneous groups using Bayesian change-point detection (BCD) technique. The study used 2015 archived one-year traffic data collected on Florida’s Interstate 295 freeway corridor. Information criteria results revealed three traffic states, which were identified as free-flow, transitional flow condition (congestion onset/offset), and the congested condition. The findings of the DPM-GLM indicated that in all estimated states, the traffic speed decreases when traffic occupancy increases. Comparison of the influence of traffic occupancy between traffic states showed that traffic occupancy has more impact on the free-flow and the congested state than on the transitional flow condition. With respect to estimating the threshold speed value, the results of the BCD model revealed promising findings in characterizing levels of traffic congestion. 展开更多

Electrochemical nitrogen reduction(NRR)is deemed as a consummate answer for the traditional Haber–Bosch technology.Breaking the linear correlations between adsorption and transition-state energies of intermediates is vital to improve the kinetics of ammonia synthesis and obtain a less energy-intensive process.Herein,carbon-encapsulated mixed-valence Fe_(7)(PO_(4))_(6) was prepared and applied as an electrocatalyst for high-efficiency NRR.A dramatic faradaic efficiency(FE)of 36.93%and an NH_(3) production rate of 13.1μg h^(-1) mg_(cat)^(-1) were obtained at-0.3 V versus RHE,superior to nearly all Fe-based catalysts.Experiments and DFT calculations revealed that the superior performance was ascribed to the synergistic effect of mixed-valence iron pair,which braked the linear correlations to improve the kinetics of ammonia from collaborative hydrogenation and*NH_(3) separation.This work proves the feasibility of mixedvalence catalysts for nitrogen reduction and thus opening a new avenue towards artificial nitrogenfixation catalysts. 展开更多

Furthermore, it is proved that Ihe turbulent transport coefficients are in proportion to Ihe corresponding linear phenomenological coefficients. But the experimental facts show that the linear phenomenological relations are not (tenable in the atmospheric mixing layer because the turbulenl transport process is an intense non-linear process in the mixing layer. Hence the convection boundary layer is a thermodynamic stale in a non-linear region far from the equilibrium state. The geostrophic wind is a special cross-coupling phenomenon between the dynamic process and the thermodynamic process in the atmospheric system. It is a practical exemplification of a cross-coupling phenomenon in the atmospheric system. 展开更多

Using the QMHD model, the dispersion equation for quantum magnetoplasmas and the dispersion relations of linear waves are deduced. Results show that quantum effects affect the propagation of electron plasma waves and extraordinary waves (X waves). When we select the plasma parameters of the laser-based plasma compression (LBPC) schemes for calculation, the quantum correction cannot be neglected. Meanwhile, the corrections produced by the Fermi degeneracy pressure and Bohm potential are compared under different plasma parameter conditions. 展开更多

Several chromatography systems with ionic liquids and a mixture of water with the modifier as mobile phase were characterized via the linear solvation energy relationships(LSER) model. The effects of the ionic liquids and modifier(methanol) concentrations on the retention of 10 solutes(caffeine, pyridine, aniline, phenol, methylparaben, acetopenone, m-cresol, p-cresol, o-cresol, and benzene) were discussed. The LSER model demonstrated high potential to predict retention factors with high squared correlation coefficients(r^2〉 0.97). A comparison of predictable and experimental retention factors revealed that LSER can adequately reproduce the experimental retention factors of the solutes under different investigated experimental conditions. This model is a helpful tool to evaluate the retention characteristics of ionic liquid systems and to understand the interactions of solutes and ionic liquids. 展开更多

The correlation relationships of apparent extraction equilibrium constant (1gK(ex)) with the electronic effect parameter( Sigma sigma(Phi)) and the steric effect parameter ( Sigma upsilon ) of the substituents in extractant molecules are investigated by linear regression analysis in the extraction of rare earths by various classes and structures of monoacidic organophosphorus extractants. The results indicate that in Linear free energy relationship formula 1gK(ex) = rho Sigma sigma(Phi) + psi Sigma upsilon + h generally follows for this kind of extraction systems. Accordingly, the quantitative structure-behaviour relationships of extractants are discussed. These relationships can be preliminarily applied to predict the 1gK(ex) values of rare earth extraction with definite structures of this class of extractants, and thus can provide some directions for the design of new RE extractants. 展开更多

The nonlinearity of the strain energy at an interval period of applying seismic load on the geostructures makes it difficult for a seismic designer to makes appropriate engineering judgments timely.The nonlinear stress and strain analysis of an embankment is needed to evaluate by using a combination of suitable methods.In this study,a large-scale geostructure was seismically simulated and analyzed using the nonlinear finite element method(NFEM),and linear regression method which is a soft computing technique(SC)was applied for evaluating the results of NFEM,and it supports engineering judgment because the design of the geostructures is usually considered to be an inaccurate process owing to high nonlinearity of the large-scale geostructures seismic response and such nonlinearity may induce the complexity for decision making in geostructures seismic design.The occurrence of nonlinear stress and nonlinear strain probability distribution can be observed and density of stress and strain are predicted by using the histogram.The results of both the simulation from the NFEM and the linear regression method confirm the nonlinearity of strain energy and stress behavior have a close value of R2 and root-mean-square error(RMSE).The linear regression and histogram simulation shows the accuracy of NFEM results.The outcome of this study guides to improve engineering judgment quality for seismic analysis of an embankment through validating results of NFEM by employing appropriate soft computing techniques. 展开更多

Furthermore, the generalized discrete Shannon entropic uncertainty relation and discrete Rényi entropic uncertainty relation were explored. In addition, the condition of equality via Lagrange optimization was developed, which shows that if the two conjugate variables have constant amplitudes that are the inverse of the square root of numbers of non-zero elements, then the uncertainty relations touch their lowest bounds. On one hand, these new uncertainty relations enrich the ensemble of uncertainty principles, and on the other hand, these derived bounds yield new understanding of discrete signals in new transform domain. 展开更多

Objectives: The objective is to analyze the interaction of the correlation structure and values of the regressor variables in the estimation of a linear model when there is a constant, possibly negative, intra-class correlation of residual errors and the group sizes are equal. Specifically: 1) How does the variance of the generalized least squares (GLS) estimator (GLSE) depend on the regressor values? 2) What is the bias in estimated variances when ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator is used? 3) In what cases are OLS and GLS equivalent. 4) How can the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) be constructed when the covariance matrix is singular? The purpose is to make general matrix results understandable. Results: The effects of the regressor values can be expressed in terms of the intra-class correlations of the regressors. If the intra-class correlation of residuals is large, then it is beneficial to have small intra-class correlations of the regressors, and vice versa. The algebraic presentation of GLS shows how the GLSE gives different weight to the between-group effects and the within-group effects, in what cases OLSE is equal to GLSE, and how BLUE can be constructed when the residual covariance matrix is singular. Different situations arise when the intra-class correlations of the regressors get their extreme values or intermediate values. The derivations lead to BLUE combining OLS and GLS weighting in an estimator, which can be obtained also using general matrix theory. It is indicated how the analysis can be generalized to non-equal group sizes. The analysis gives insight to models where between-group effects and within-group effects are used as separate regressors. 展开更多
