The boninite occurs as pillow, massive and ocellar lavas; the last one possesses well-developed globular structure and alternates with the former two. The boninite is characterized by the absence of phenocrysts of olivine and low-Ca pyroxenes and by low CaO/Al2O3 ratios (<0.67) and high Cr (>1000 ppm) and Ni (>250 ppm). The normalized abundance patterns (NAP) of trace elements to primitive mantle are similar to the NAP of low-Ca modern boninites and SHMB in the Archaean and Proterozoic.展开更多

A quantitative understa nding of the dynamic behavior and growth kinetics of the nucleated second phase during solidification is necessary to produce homogeneous dispersion in solidifi ed composites. This paper presents a mathematical model for describing the grow th of nucleated dispersed phase in the two-liquid phase region ahead of the sol idification front and the entrapment of these droplets by the moving solid-liqu id interface in vertical unidirectional solidification systems. The model has t wo components. A macro-heat transfer model for describing the temperature prof iles and the rate of advance of the solidification front. The dynamic behavior and coalescence and growth of nucleated droplets in the two-liquid phase region under the influence of effective gravity and thermocapillary forces were repres ented through the solution the droplet momentum and mass conservation equations in particle space. These two components of the models were coupled through a sp ecial algorithm for tracking the particle location and size with respect to movi ng solidification front in the solidification time scale. The model is used to study the particle size distribution in unidirectional solidified Zn-Bi hypermo notectic alloys at reduced gravity conditions. It has been found that the parti cle size and distribution in the solidified alloy depends on solidification rate and the ratio of effective gravity to thermocapillary forces. It was also foun d that uniform dispersion could only be obtained in a very narrow range of effec tive gravity values near zero gravity. The model predictions were compared agai nst experimental measurements obtained at different effective gravity conditions in a novel unidirectional solidification apparatus that uses electromagnetic fo rces to modulate gravitational forces. The model was found to reasonably predic t the experimentally measured particle size and distribution over the entire ran ge of effective gravity investigated as well as gravity conditions for settling and flotation of the second phase during solidification. The practical signific ance of these findings will be discussed.展开更多

Here, we use the Jiajika pegmatite deposit, the largest spodumene deposit in Asia, as a case study to investigate ore forming processes using isotope dating. Dating of a single granite sample from the Jiajika deposit using multiple methods gave a zircon U-Pb SHRIMP age of 208.4 ~ 3.9 Ma, an 4~Ar/39Ar age for muscovite of 182.9 ~ 1.7 Ma, and an 4~Ar/39Ar age for biotite of 169.9 + 1.6 Ma. Based on these dating results and the 4~Ar/39Ar age of muscovite from the Jiajika pegmatite, a temperature-time cooling track for the Jiajika granite was constructed using closure temperatures of the different isotope systems. This track indicates that the granite cooled over ^-40 m. y., with segregation of the pegmatite fluid from the granitic magma at a temperature of ~700~C. This result suggests that the Jiajika pegmatite formed not by fractional crystallization, but by segregation of an immiscible liquid from the granitic magma. When compared with fractional crystallization, the relatively early timing of segregation of an immiscible liquid from a granitic magma can prevent the precipitation of ore-forming elements during crystallization, and suggests that liquid immiscibility could be an important ore-forming process for rare metal pegmatities. We also conclude that isotope dating is a method that can potentially be used to determine the dominant ore-forming processes that occurred during the formation of granite-related ore deposits, and suggest that this method can be employed to determine the formation history of the W-Sn ore deposits found elsewhere within the Nanling Metallogenic Belt.展开更多

Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy was used to study the diffusion of fluorescence-labeled diblock copolymer,polystyrene-b-polyisoprene, at the interface formed between two immiscible liquids. The interfaces are formed between N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF) and a few immiscible liquids, n-alkane and polyisoprene. Interfacial diffusion coefficient of the diblock copolymer probe is found to decrease monotonously with the increase of the molecular length of the interface constituting liquids. The decrease of diffusion coefficient follows the prediction by Einstein relation using the viscosity of the constituting liquids as the variables only for interfaces between DMF and very small n-alkanes. For interfaces formed between DMF and bigger alkanes and especially between DMF and polyisoprene, the diffusion coefficient is much higher than the calculated value, indicating that the probe molecule starts to probe the much less viscous interfacial region because the interfacial width gets larger, whose thickness is comparable to the molecule size of the liquids.展开更多
