The relationship between viscosity/yield stress and flotation rate in different chalcopyrite and lizardite concentrations was investigated by zeta potential measurements, rheological tests, flotation experiments, and DerjguinLandau-Verwey-Overbeek theoretical calculation. Results indicated that the concentration of minerals would affect the viscosity and yield stress of the slurry. That is,the viscosity/yield stress in the slurry rises accordingly when the concentration of minerals increases. The increase in viscosity/yield stress in slurry is also unfavorable to the enrichment of chalcopyrite but is conducive to the entrainment of lizardite in either single or binary system.Specifically, the flotation rate of chalcopyrite decreases while that of lizardite increases with the rise in viscosity/yield stress. 展开更多

Lizardite rich peridotite has never been used to prepare ceramic specimens, especially in Morocco. For this raison, potential use of naturally abundant lizarditic material from the Rif domain,as a supply for ceramic industry, has been evaluated. The effects of lizardite addition to magnesite and dolomite mixtures on the thermomechanical properties of the calcined ceramics were also detailed. To achieve this target, natural lizardite, magnesite and dolomite samples were collected in ultrabasic Beni Bousra massif. Those raw samples were used for the synthesis of a forsterite-monticellite rich ceramics. Both raw and sintered samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and fourier transform infrared. The obtained results showed that both magnesite and dolomite were mainly composed of MgCO_(3) and CaCO_(3).In contrast, lizardite sample showed high amounts of SiO_(2),MgO and Fe2O_(3).An increased amount of lizardite in the initial mixtures enhanced mechanical and dimensional properties of the prepared ceramic specimens, and subsequently, the production of ceramics with the required technological properties. Thus, the preparation of Moroccan lizardite-based ceramics is technically feasible, economically justifiable and socially desirable due to the contribution to the economic growth of the raw materials sector, especially ceramic industry. 展开更多

To acquire understanding of Ni enrichment from laterite ore,the mineralogy and crystal chemistry of a low grade limonite type nickel laterite ore sample assaying 0.97% Ni from Indonesia were studied using optical microscopy,X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and electron probe microanalysis(EPMA).According to EPMA results, the mineral includes 80% goethite((Fe,Ni,Al)O(OH)) with 0.87% Ni,15% silicate minerals with lizardite((Mg,Fe,Ni)3Si2O5(OH)) and olivine((Mg,Fe,Ni)2SiO4),and 1.19% Ni,and other minor phases, such as hematite, maghemite, chromite and quartz, and no Ni was detected. The mineralogy of the laterite ore indicates that due to the complicated association of the various phases and the variable distribution of Ni,this refractory laterite ore can not be upgraded by traditional physical beneficiation processes. 展开更多

Serpentinized peridotites in the Yangkou(YK),Suoluoshu(SLS) and Hujialin(HJL) areas in the Sulu ultrahighpressure terrane represent the relic of ancient subcontinental lithospheric mantle below the North China Craton.Their protoliths, harzburgite and dunite, were variably hydrated by aqueous fluids released from subducting Yangtze continent. The rocks are enriched in fluid-mobile elements(FME) including Sb(42–333 times the depleted mantle value) and Pb(30–476 times). The degrees of the FME enrichment are comparable to that of the Himalayan forearc serpentinites, and greater than forearc mantle serpentinites from Marianas, suggesting that the degrees of FME enrichment in the forearc serpentinites are greater in continental subduction zones than those in the oceanic subduction zones.Lizardite after olivine in the SLS serpentinite shows higher degrees of enrichment in Sb and As than those for antigorite after both olivine and orthopyroxene in the YK area. The antigorite has highly enriched in Pb,U,Cs,and LREE,but not for the lizardite. The abundance of FME in two different species of serpentine reflects the different temperature of hydration. At temperature lower than 300 ℃,formed lizardite at shallow depths of the mantle wedge incorporates elements that are fluid mobile at low temperatures, such as Sb and As.When the temperature greater than 300 ℃,formed antigorite at a relatively deep mantle wedge incorporate more FME from the subducting continental slab(or fragments),including Pb,U,Cs,LREE as well as Sb and As.The eventual breakdown of antigorite(600–700 ℃) in prograde metamorphism would discharge water as well as FME into the subducting channel and/or the overlying mantle. 展开更多

In this work, different magnesium silicate mineral samples based on antigorite, lizardite, chrysotile(which have the same general formula Mg3Si2O5(OH)4), and talc(Mg3Si4O10(OH)2) were reacted with KOH to prepare catalysts for biodiesel production. Simple impregnation with 20 wt% K and treatment at 700–900°C led to a solid-state reaction to mainly form the K2MgSiO4 phase in all samples. These results indicate that the K ion can diffuse into the different Mg silicate structures and textures, likely through intercalation in the interlayer space of the different mineral samples followed by dehydroxylation and K2MgSiO4 formation. All the materials showed catalytic activity for the transesterification of soybean oil(1:6 of oil : methanol molar ratio, 5 wt% of catalyst, 60°C). However, the best results were obtained for the antigorite and chrysotile precursors, which are discussed in terms of mineral structure and the more efficient formation of the active phase K2MgSiO4. 展开更多
