Considering a local defect on outer raceway,a two-degree-of-freedom analytical model of a rigid-rotor ball bearing system is established. Three pulse force models are introduced to simulate the local defect. The frequency domain method—harmonic balance method with alternating frequency/time domain technique (HB-AFT) is used to calculate the response in a large frequency range. By comparing the performance at different frequencies, the fault systems with different defect models and parameters reveal the super-harmonic resonances, and the reasons for this phenomenon are uncovered as well. Finally, the theoretical calculation is verified qualitatively by the experimental results, through comparing the frequency spectrums of the defective bearing rotor system to the fault-free one. Therefore, the super-harmonic resonances can be regarded as a dynamic feature. Besides, the obvious super-harmonic resonances indicate the magnification of the harmonics of the "characteristic defect frequency" for outer race in the corresponding speed regions, which may be helpful for the diagnosis of a rotor ball bearing system with a local defect.展开更多

The dictionary learned from reference images can efficiently represent the test image. As the representation coefficients of normal images have a specific distribution, the local feature can be estimate by comparing representation coefficient distribution. Meanwhile, a coding length is used to measure the global features of representation coefficients. The tire defect is located by both these local and global features. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately detect and locate the tire defects.展开更多

The resonant modes in one-dimensional HR structure with point defect were studied using finite element method (FEM). The results show that the acoustic energy is localized between the resonant HR and the opening in the local-resonant-type gap. There is a high pressure area around the defect resonator at the frequency of defect mode. In the Bragg type gap, the energy mainly distributes in the waveguide with harmonic attenuation due to the multi-scattering. Phase opposition demonstrates the existence of negative dynamic mass density. Local negative parameter is observed in the pass band due to the defect mode. Based on further investigation of the acoustic intensity and phase distributions in the resonators corresponding to two different forbidden bands, only one local resonant mode is verified, which is different from the three-component local resonant phononics. This work will be useful for understanding the mechanisms of acoustic forbidden bands and negative parameters in the HR metamaterial, and of help for designing new functional acoustic devices.展开更多

The evolutionary processes of statistically correlative meso-scopic defects are analysed with the growth rate and nucleation rate of the meso-defect, and it is deemed that the dynamic failure process of the viscoelastic material with defects can be quantitatively described by the normal method of the procedure of heat wave transmission. The defect field is regarded as a complex system of the union of the real sets and null sets, its main characteristics depending on the stratum hypothesis about the activities of the subsystems of the highest stratum described by ordered parameters. The fluctuation of ordered parameters is demonstrated by means of the projection operator method. The constitutive equation with ordered parameters for the meso-defect evolutionary state of viscoelastic material with defects is deduced from the nonlinear rheological dynamic approach, and its solution is obtained.展开更多
