The quality of a via hole on a multilayer stack of Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) tape is of utmost importance to its functionality. This paper investigates a substitute for the commonly used circular shape hole to a more complex one and its implications when different parameters such as sheet thickness, punch speed, travel distance and tool clearance are?changed. Fabrication of the punch tools and the punching process is carried out at the same machine, ensuring alignment. Two types of non-circular shape are chosen to carry out the experiment. Pre-sintered complex shape hole measurements show that while punch conditions such as speed and tool gap have?little effect on the size, sheet thickness and travel depth play a vital role in the overall dimension. Albeit having only a slight effect on the size, those parameters are significant in other aspects of hole quality. Post-sintering investigation is also observed and discussed. 展开更多

Modern electronic circuit requires compact,multifunctional technology in communication systems.However,it is very difficult due to the limitations in passive component miniaturization and the complication of fabrication process.The bandpass filter is one of the most important passive components in millimeter(mm)-wave communication system,attracting significant interest in three-dimension(3D) miniaturized design,which is few reported.In this paper,a bandpass filter structure using low-temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) technology,which is fully integrated in a system-in package(SIP) communication module,is presented for miniaturized and high reliable mm-wave application.The bandpass filter with 3D end-coupled microstrip resonators is implemented in order to achieve a high performance bandwidth characteristic.Specifically,all of the resonators are embedded into different ceramic layers to decrease the insertion loss and enhance the out-of-band rejection performance by optimizing the coupling coefficient and the coupling strength.A fence structure,which is formed by metal-filled via array with the gap less than quarter wavelength,is placed around the embedded bandpass filter to avoid electromagnetic(EM) interference problem in multilayer structure.This structural model is validated through actual LTCC process.The bandpass filter is successfully manufactured by modifying the co-fireablity characteristics,adjusting the sintering profile,releasing the interfacial stress,and reducing the shrinkage mismatch with different materials.Measured results show good performance and agree well with the high frequency EM full wave simulation.The influence of layer thickness and dielectric constant on the frequency response in fabricated process is analyzed,where thicker ceramic sheets let the filter response shift to higher frequency.Moreover,measured S-parameters denote the center frequency is also strongly influenced by the variation of ceramic material's dielectric constants.By analyzing the relationship between the characteristics of the ceramic tape and the center frequency of the filter,both theoretical and experimental data are accumulated for broadening application filed.With the coupling resonators embedded into the ceramic layers,the bandpass filter exhibits advantages of small size and high reliability compared to conventional planar filter structure,which makes the bandpass filter suitable for SIP communicational application. 展开更多

The influences of BaCu(B2O5)(BCB) addition on sintering,microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of Li2MgTi3O8 ceramics were investigated using X-ray diffractometry,scanning electron microscopy and microwave dielectric measurements,The experimental results show that a small amount of BaCu(B2O5) addition can effectively reduce the sintering temperature to 900 °C,and induce only a limited degradation of the microwave dielectric properties.Typically,the best microwave dielectric properties of εr=24.5,Q×f =24 622 GHz,τf=4.2×10?6 °C ?1 are obtained for 1.0% BCB-doped Li2MgTi3O8 ceramics sintered at 900 °C for 3 h.The BCB-doped Li2MgTi3O8 ceramics can be compatible with Ag electrode,which may be a strong candidate for low temperature co-fired ceramics applications. 展开更多

A new preparation method for a highly sinterable Y 2O 3 powder was developed, using the mixture of the powder with Al 2O 3 powder, a transparent yttrium aluminum garnet(YAG) ceramic was prepared at relatively low temperature by a solid state reaction method. Yttrium nitrate was used as a mother salt, and aqueous ammonia was used as a precipitant reagent, the fine and dendritic precursor crystalline was prepared by adding 0.5% ammonium sulfate into the precipitation reaction system. The highly pure and low agglomerated Y 2O 3 powders were obtained by calcinating the precursor at 1 100 ℃, the primary particles are spherical and 60 nm in diameter. The mixture of Y 2O 3 and Al 2O 3 powders was calcinated, and the resulting mixture compact pressed in mold could be sintered to transparency under vacuum at 1 700 ℃. The sintered transparent YAG polycrystalline exhibits a homogeneous microstructure and its transmittance reaches 45% in the visible light region and 70% in the near infrared wavelength region. 展开更多

This Paper reports a new system for preparation of lead titanate powders by the Sol Gel method. In this system, basic lead lactate, (CH 3CHOHCOO) 2Pb, is used as the lead precursor instead of the widely used Pb(OOCCH 3) 2·3H 2O and titanium tetrabutoxide monomer. This new system simplifies the chemical processing of precursor solutions of lead titanate, increases their stability in air, and offers good control Pb(Ti stoichiometry. The xerogel, obtained from the precursor solution by aging at low temperature, is found to have a higer inorganic content. Gel to ceramic conversion is achieved by calcining the xerogel from 400℃ to 800℃. The phase purity, particle size, morphology, compositional homogeneity of the gel derived powders are examined by XRD. TEM.IR and the slow reflection spectrum of partides are measured. 展开更多

Realization of Low Temperature Densification of Nickelate Ceramics for MLCC Application

We report an improved method for the preparation of highly dense nickelate ceramics at relatively low temperature. It is found that the introduction of appropriate additives during the ball-milling process facilitates the formation of nickelate phase through solid state reaction. Moreover, although high-purity nickelate powders can only be obtained by calcining the mixture of starting materials at temperature higher than 1100 ℃. The adoption of powders calcined at 1000 ℃, rather than those calcined at higher temperature, is conductive to the low-temperature densification of nickelate ceramics, which is attributed to the small and dispersive particles, and the solid state reaction of the residual starting materials during sintering. Compared with the conventional process, the improved method can reduce the sintering temperature of nickelate ceramics by about 100 ℃ and decrease the grain size of the obtained ceramics, and therefore makes nickelate meet the fabrication requirements of multi-layer ceramic capacitors(MLCC). 展开更多

The effects of CuO and H3BO3 additions on the low-temperature sintering,microstructure,and microwave dielectric properties of Ba2Ti3Nb4O18 ceramics were investigated.The addition of less amount of CuO ( 〈1 wt%) considerably facilitated the densification of Ba2Ti3Nb4O18 ceramics.Appropriate addition of H3BO3 ( 〈3.5 wt%) remarkably improved the microwave dielectric properties of ceramics.The addition of H3BO3 and CuO successfully reduced the sintering temperature of Ba2Ti3Nb4O18 ceramics from 1300 to 1050 ℃.Ba2Ti3Nb4O18 ceramics sintered at 1 050 ℃ for 4 h with the addition of 1.0 wt% CuO and 3.5 wt% H3BO3 exhibited good microwave dielectric properties:er=33.74,Q?f=13 812 GHz,and tf=-5.35 ppm/°C at about 5.0 GHz. 展开更多

The effects of BaCu(B2Os) (BCB) addition on the microstructure, phase formation, and microwave dielectric proper- ties of BasNb4015-BaWO4 ceramic are investigated. As a sintering aid, BaCu(B2Os) ceramic could effectively lower the sintering temperature of BasNb4015-BaWO4 ceramic from 1100 ℃ to 950 ℃ due to the liquid-phase effect. Meanwhile, BaCu(B2Os) addition effectively improves the densification of BasNb4015-BaWO4 ceramic and significantly influences the microwave dielectric properties. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that BasNb4015 and BaWO4 coexist with no crystal phase of BaCu(B2Os) in the sintered ceramics. The BasNb4015-BaWO4 ceramics with 1.0 wt% BaCu(B2Os) sintered at 950 ℃ for 2 h presents good microwave dielectric properties of er = 19.0, high Q× f of 33802 GHz and low vf of 2.5 ppm/℃. 展开更多

Over the past two decades,(K_(0.5)Na_(0.5))NbO_(3)(KNN)-based lead-free piezoelectric ceramics have made significant progress.However,attaining a high electrostrain with remarkable temperature stability and minimal hysteresis under low electric fields has remained a significant challenge.To address this long-standing issue,we have employed a collaborative approach that combines defect engineering,phase engineering,and relaxation engineering.The LKNNS-6BZH ceramic,when sintered at T_(sint)=1170℃,demonstrates an impressive electrostrain with a d_(33) value of 0.276%and 1379 pm·V^(-1)under 20 kV·cm^(-1),which is comparable to or even surpasses that of other lead-free and Pb(Zr,Ti)O_(3)ceramics.Importantly,the electrostrain performance of this ceramic remains stable up to a temperature of 125℃,with the lowest hysteresis observed at 9.73%under 40 kV·cm^(-1).These excellent overall performances are attributed to the presence of defect dipoles involving V′_(A)-V∙∙_(O) and B′_(Nb)-V∙∙O,the coexistence of R-O-T multiphase,and the tuning of the trade-off between long-range ordering and local heterogeneity.This work provides a lead-free alternative for piezoelectric actuators and a paradigm for designing piezoelectric materials with outstanding comprehensive performance under low electric fields. 展开更多

The homogeneously dispersed, less agglomerated (Nd0.01Y0.99)3Al5O12 nano-sized powders were synthesized by the low temperature combustion (LCS), using Nd2O3, Y2O3, Al(NO3)3·9H2O, ammonia water and citric acid as starting materials. This method effectively solves the problems caused by solid-state reaction at high temperature and hard agglomerates brought by the chemical precipitation method. The powders were characterized by TG-DTA, XRD, FT-IR, TEM respectively and the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of (Nd0.01Y0.99)3Al5O12 green and sintered ceramic disks were measured. The results show that the forming temperature of YAG crystal phase is 850 ℃ and YAP crystal phase appearing during the calcinations transforms to pure YAG at 1050 ℃. The particle size of the powders synthesized by the LCS is in a range of 20~50 nm depending on the thermal treatment temperatures. The effectively induced cross section (σin) with the value 4.03×10-19 cm2 of (Nd0.01Y0.99)3Al5O12 ceramics is about 44% higher than that of single crystal. 展开更多

The amorphous boron nitride ceramic powders were prepared at 750-950 ℃ by the low-cost urea route, and the effects of preparation temperatures, molar ratios of the raw materials and oxidation treatment on the composition, structure and surface morphology of the products were investigated through FT-IR, XRD and SEM. The results show that the products ceramize and crystallize gradually with the increase of the temperature. When the molar ratio and reaction temperature are 3:2 and 850 ℃, respectively, the products have high purity, compact structure and nice shape. The oxidation treatment at 450 ℃ will not impair the composition and structure of boron nitride but effectively remove the impurities. 展开更多

Sodium potassium niobate (KNN) (K0.5Na0.5NbO3) nanopowder with a mean particle size of about 20 - 30 nm was synthesized by wet chemical route using Nb2O5 as Nb source. A solution of K, Na and Nb cations was prepared, which resulted in a clear gel after the thermal treatment. Phase analysis, microstructure and morphology of the powder were determined by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). The obtained gel was first analyzed by Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), and then calcined at different temperatures of 400℃, 500℃, 600℃ and 700℃. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) patterns of the synthesized samples confirmed the formation of the orthorhombic crystal phase of K0.5Na0.5NbO3 at 500?C, a temperature significantly lower than that typically used in the conventional mixed oxide route. The process developed in this work is convenient to realize the mass production of KNN nanopowders at low cost and suitable for various industrial applications. 展开更多

The Nd:YAG precursor powders with persed , slightly agglomerated, super fine and YAG cubic crystal phase were synthesized at 1100 ℃ by the homogeneous precipitation method, using Nd2O3, Y2O3, Al(NO3)3·9H2O and urea as raw materials, (NH4)2SO4 as electrical stabilizer, TEOS as sintering additive. The Nd:YAG transparent ceramics were prepared after being vacuum sintered at 1700 ℃ for 5 h. The Nd:YAG ceramic materials were characterized by the TG-DTA, XRD, FT-IR, TEM, FEG-ESEM and FT-PL. The results show that the crystallization temperature of YAG is 850 ℃ and the intermediate crystal phase YAP forming during the heat treatment transforms to YAG cubic crystal phase at 1050 ℃. The lasing wavelength of (Nd0.01 Y0.99)3Al5O12 transparent ceramics is 1.065 μm and there exists a slight red-shift compared to the single crystal with the same chemical composition. The optical transmittance is 45 % in the visible light and 58 % in the near infrared light and the optical transmittance descends with the decreasing the wavelength. 展开更多

(Nd0.01Y0.99)3Al5O12 nano-sized powders were synthesized by low temperature combustion (LCS), using Nd2O3, Y2O3, Al(NO3)3.9H2O, ammonia water and citric acid as starting materials. The powders were characterized by TG-DTA, XRD, FT-IR, ICP and TEM, respectively. The grain sizes were calculated by the Scherrer's formula using the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of YAG (420) crystal plane diffraction lines. The study focused on crystallization of ceramics at different heat treatment temperatures. The experimental results show that crystallizing temperature of YAG is 850 ℃, and the intermediate crystal phase YAP, appearing during heat treatment, transforms to YAG cubic crystal phase at the temperature of 1 050℃. The particle size of the powders synthesized by LCS is nano-sized. With the temperature increasing, the mean grain sizes raise, the stand deviations keep almost at the value of 2.0 and the lattice parameters decrease. The grains mainly grow by grain boundary diffusion. The lattice parameter expansion is caused by an increase of the repulsive dipolar interactions on surfaces of crystallites, 展开更多

Influence of size of seed grains and sintering condition on varistor properties of ZnO-Bi_2O_3-TiO_2-Sb_2O_3 ceramics 被引量:1

Varistor ceramics of ZnO Bi 2O 3 TiO 2 Sb 2O 3 system have been fabricated by introducing pre fabricated ZnO seed grains with different size distributions respectively. The results show that the varistor properties were significantly influenced by the size of introduced seed grains, and introducing larger seed grains is more advantageous to the modification of microstructure and the improvement of varistor properties. The varistor properties were considerably improved with a moderately increased sintering temperature or time, whereas degraded apparently when the sintering temperature or time was excessively increased. Compared with the sintering time, the sintering temperature plays a more critical role in determining the varistor properties. By introducing pre fabricated ZnO seed grains into the original powders, low voltage ZnO varistor ceramics possessing the desired electrical properties have been produced with a sintering temperature of about 1 210 ℃ and a sintering temperature of 2~2.5 h. CuO added Pb0.92Sr0.06Ba0.02(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.25(Ti0.53Zr0.47)0.75O3 ceramics were studied to prepare high-quality multilayer piezoelectric actuators with pure Ag electrodes at 900 ℃. CuO addition not only reduced the sintering temperature significantly from 1260 ℃ to 900 ℃ but also improved the ceramic density to 7.742 g/cm3. The 0.7 wt.% CuO added ceramic sintered at 900 ℃ shows the remnant polarization (Pr) of 40 μC/cm2, 0.28% strain at 40 kV/cm, and the piezoelectric coefficient (d33) of 630 pC/N. This ceramic shows a strong relaxor characteristic with a Curie temperature of 200 ℃. Furthermore, the 0.7 wt.% CuO added ceramic and pure Ag electrodes were co-fired at 900 ℃ to prepare a high-quality multilayer piezoelectric actuator with a d33 of over 450 pC/N per ceramic layer. 展开更多

Novel low-firing BiMg_(2)PO_(6)(BMP)and BiMg_(2)VO_(6)(BMV)ceramics with excellent microwave properties were synthesized and analyzed.The Rietveld refinement indicated that BiMg_(2)MO_(6)(M=p,V)ceramics crystallized in orthorhombic structure.The analysis results of the scanning electron microscope proved a dense and uniform microstructure.Further research showed that there was a strong correlation among permittivity,quality factor,and bulk density at different temperatures.The correlation between the properties and the structure of BiMg_(2)MO_(6)(M=P,V)ceramics were characterized by the chemical bond theory.The outstanding dielectric properties of BiMg_(2)MO_(6)(M=P,V)ceramics(BMP:εr=12.503,Q×f=25,760 GHz,tf=-20×10^(-6)/℃;BMV:εr=13.472,Q×f=37,270 GHz,tf=78×10^(-6)/℃)make them expected to become the novel low temperature co-fired ceramics(LTCC). 展开更多
