Attribute-driven Fuzzy Fault Tree Model for Adaptive Lubricant Failure Diagnosis

Lubricant diagnosis serves as a crucial accordance for condition-based maintenance(CBM)involving oil changing and wear examination of critical parts in equipment.However,the accuracy of traditional end-to-end diagnosis models is often limited by the inconsistency and random fluctuations in multiple monitoring indicators.To address this,an attribute-driven adaptive diagnosis method is developed,involving three attributes:physicochemical,contamination,and wear.Correspondingly,a fuzzy fault tree(termed FFT)-based model is constructed containing the logic correlations from monitoring indicators to attributes and to lubricant failures.In particular,inference rules are integrated to mitigate conflicts arising from the reverse degradation of multiple indicators.With this model,the lubricant conditions can be accurately assessed through rule-based reasoning.Furthermore,to enhance its intelligence,the model is dynamically optimized with lubricant analysis knowledge and monitoring data.For verification,the developed model is tested with lubricant samples from both the fatigue experiment and actual aero-engines.Fatigue experiments reveal that the proposed model can improve the lubricant diagnosis accuracy from 73.4%to 92.6%compared with the existing methods.While for the engine lubricant test,a high accuracy of 90%was achieved. 展开更多

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of silicone oil(SO)as a corneal lubricant to improve visualization during vitrectomy.METHODS:Patients who underwent vitreoretinal surgery were divided into two groups.Group 1 was operated on with initial SO(Oxane 5700)as a corneal lubricant.Group 2 was operated on with initial lactated ringer’s solution(LRS)and then replaced with SO as required.Fundus clarity was scored during the surgery.Fluorescein staining was performed to determine the damage to corneal epithelium.RESULTS:Totally 114 eyes of 114 patients were included.Single SO use maintained a clear cornea and provided excellent visualization of surgical image.In group 1,the fundus clarity was grade 3 in 41/45 eyes and grade 2 in 4/45 eyes.In group 2,corneal edema frequently occurred after initial LRS use.The fundus clarity was grade 3 in 19/69 eyes,2 in 37/69 eyes and 1 in 13/69 eyes(P<0.05).SO was applied in 29 eyes of initial LRS use with subsequent corneal edema,which eliminated the corneal edema in 26 eyes.Corneal fluorescein staining score in group 1 was 0 in 28 eyes,1 in 11 eyes and 2 in 6 eyes,and 40,20 and 9,respectively,in group 2(all P>0.05).CONCLUSION:The use of SO as a corneal lubricant is effective and safe for preserving and improving corneal clarity and providing clear surgical field during vitrectomy. 展开更多

Fluorographene(FG)with narrow lateral size and thickness distributions was prepared by a liquid-phase exfoliation method,based on liquid cascade centrifugation.The Rtec MFT-5000 tribo-meter was used to investigate the lubricating performance of bentonite grease enhanced by the as-prepared FG.The results showed that the coefficient of friction and the wear volume of bentonite grease with 0.3 wt%FG were decreased by 20.4%and 44.9%,respectively,as compared to those of the base grease.The main reason is that FG can promote the formation of the tribo-chemical reaction film consisting of complex carbon oxide,Fe_(2)O_(3)and FeF_(3)on the friction surface,which can remarkably improve the performance of friction reduction and prevent the appearance of severe wear. 展开更多

The design and fabrication of high toughness electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding composite films with diminished reflection are an imperative task to solve electromagnetic pollution problem.Ternary MXene/ANF(aramid nanofibers)–MoS_(2)composite films with nacre-like layered structure here are fabricated after the introduction of MoS_(2)into binary MXene/ANF composite system.The introduction of MoS_(2)fulfills an impressive“kill three birds with one stone”improvement effect:lubrication toughening mechanical performance,reduction in secondary reflection pollution of electromagnetic wave,and improvement in the performance of photothermal conversion.After the introduction of MoS_(2)into binary MXene/ANF(mass ratio of 50:50),the strain to failure and tensile strength increase from 22.1±1.7%and 105.7±6.4 MPa and to 25.8±0.7%and 167.3±9.1 MPa,respectively.The toughness elevates from 13.0±4.1 to 26.3±0.8 MJ m^(−3)(~102.3%)simultaneously.And the reflection shielding effectiveness(SE_(R))of MXene/ANF(mass ratio of 50:50)decreases~10.8%.EMI shielding effectiveness(EMI SE)elevates to 41.0 dB(8.2–12.4 GHz);After the introduction of MoS_(2)into binary MXene/ANF(mass ratio of 60:40),the strain to failure increases from 18.3±1.9%to 28.1±0.7%(~53.5%),the SE_(R)decreases~22.2%,and the corresponding EMI SE is 43.9 dB.The MoS_(2)also leads to a more efficient photothermal conversion performance(~45 to~55℃).Additionally,MXene/ANF–MoS_(2)composite films exhibit excellent electric heating performance,quick temperature elevation(15 s),excellent cycle stability(2,2.5,and 3 V),and long-term stability(2520 s).Combining with excellent mechanical performance with high MXene content,electric heating performance,and photothermal conversion performance,EMI shielding ternary MXene/ANF–MoS_(2)composite films could be applied in many industrial areas.This work broadens how to achieve a balance between mechanical properties and versatility of composites in the case of high-function fillers. 展开更多

This study prepared four types of ionic liquid-modified polypyrrole(IL-modified PPy)as conductive additives and investigated their tribological performance and conductivity in polytetrafluoroethylene lubricating grease.The results indicated that IL-modified PPy effectively enhanced the anti-wear performance and conductivity of the base grease.Among the additives,1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate([OMIm][BF4])modified PPy showed superior performance compared to the other three additives,with the best effect observed at a mass fraction of 0.5%.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed that IL-modified PPy forms a stable friction chemical film during the friction process,effectively enhancing the lubrication performance and conductivity of the base grease.This indicates broad potential applications in the field of conductive lubrication. 展开更多

Tribological Properties of Functionalized Ionic Liquids Containing Ester-group as Lubricants for Steel-Steel System

A series of functionalized ionic liquids (ILs) containing ester-group were synthesized and their tribological prop- erties as lubricants for steel-steel contact were studied and compared with a non-functionalized ionic liquid and perfluo- ropolyethers (PFPE). The morphology and chemical composition of the worn scars were analyzed by scanning electron mi- croscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively, and the possible lubrication mechanism of ILs was discussed. As a result, all ILs demonstrated a better lubricity and a much higher load-carrying capacity than PFPE used as lubricants for the steel-steel tribomates system. The functionalized ILs with ester-group showed slightly worse friction reducing abil- ity than their nonfunctionalized counterparts at relatively lower loads owing to their higher viscosity, but then exhibited better antiwear ability because the ester group they contained had not only physical but also strong chemical reactions with the freshly exposed steel surface and formed chemical adsorption boundary films on the worn surface during friction pro- cess. Under high loads, some triboehemical reactions took place between the active elements, such as fluorine which were released from the ILs, and fresh metal surfaces of rubbing pairs to form the admixture reaction films, which were mainly composed of ferric fluoride mixed with ferric oxide, leading to lower friction coefficients and good wear resistance. 展开更多

In recent years, owing to the strong increase in demand for lubricants, China is ranked second in the global lubricant market. With the rapid development of China's automobile industry, there is an increasing demand for vehicle lubricants and an increasing requirement for higher quality lubricants. While the demands for vehicle lubricants are increasing year by year in China, the quality grade of vehicle lubricant will be improved by leaps and bounds, and the high standard lubricant for automobile will be directly brought in line with international practice. At present, the market share of most high-end vehicle lubricant has been occupied by foreign lubricant brands. So for China National Petroleum Corporation Lubricant Company (CNPCLC), the urgent issue is that strategies must be made to respond to the stern challenges and to occupy more market share. In this paper, by using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique that has the advantage of combining quantitative with qualitative analysis, a SWOT-AHP model for CNPCLC vehicle lubricants is developed, presenting a good tool for studying the competitive factors domestic and overseas for vehicle lubricants. A pilot wire drawing machine as well as wire end-pointing roller was developed. Using these machines, a wire drawing test for four different coating materials and two different lubricants was performed as the reduction ratio increased from 10% to 30%. Materials used for a substrate in this study are plain carbon steel (AIS11045) and ultra low carbon bainite steel. To compute the friction coefficient between the coating layer of wire and the surface of die lbr a specific lubricant, a series of finite element analyses were carried out. SEM observations were also conducted to investigate the surface defects of wire deformed. Results show that the behavior of drawing force varies with the lubricant-type at the initial stage of drawing. The powder-typed lubricant with a large particle causes the retardation of lull lubrication on the entire contact surface and the local delamination of coating layer on the wire surface. As the flow stress of a substrate increases, the delamination becomes severe. 展开更多

Results showed that low friction coefficient androlling force were obtained by using the normal paraffins,whereas their contaminations on the annealed stripsurface were the same as those of other saturated hydrocarbons. Aromatics in base oil affected the stir face reflectivity of annealed strips, but the decrease of aromatics in base oil was ineffective to improve rolled stripssurface quality when it is less than 1 %. Base oil viscosity has the great influences on the lubricating performances and surface reflectivity of annealed strips just in this condition. 展开更多

This paper presents a simulator model of a marine diesel engine based on physical, semi-physical, mathematical and thermodynamic equations, which allows fast predictive simulations The whole engine system is divided into several functional blocks: cooling, lubrication, air, injection, combustion and emissions. The sub-models and dynamic characteristics of individual blocks are established according to engine working principles equations and experimental data collected from a marine diesel engine test bench for SIMB Company under the reference 6M26SRP1. The overall engine system dynamics is expressed as a set of simultaneous algebraic and differential equations using sub-blocks and S-Functions of Matlab/Simulink. The simulation of this model, implemented on Matlab/Simulink has been validated and can be used to obtain engine performance, pressure, temperature, efficiency, heat release, crank angle, fuel rate, emissions at different sub-blocks. The simulator will be used, in future work, to study the engine performance in faulty conditions, and can be used to assist marine engineers in fault diagnosis and estimation (FDI) as well as designers to predict the behavior of the cooling system, lubrication system, injection system, combustion, emissions, in order to optimize the dimensions of different components. This program is a platform for fault simulator, to investigate the impact on sub-blocks engine's output of changing values for faults parameters such as: faulty fuel injector, leaky cylinder, worn fuel pump, broken piston rings, a dirty turbocharger, dirty air filter, dirty air cooler, air leakage, water leakage, oil leakage and contamination, fouling of heat exchanger, pumps wear, failure of injectors (and many others). 展开更多

Three reaction systems of MoS_2-Fe, FeS -Fe, and Fe S-Fe-Mo were designed to investigate the use of FeS as an alternative to MoS_2 for producing Fe-based friction materials. Samples were prepared by powder metallurgy, and their phase compositions, microstructures, mechanical properties, and friction performance were characterized. The results showed that MoS_2 reacts with the matrix to produce iron-sulfides and Mo when sintered at 1050°C. Iron-sulfides produced in the MoS_2-Fe system were distributed uniformly and continuously in the matrix, leading to optimal mechanical properties and the lowest coefficient of friction among the systems studied. The lubricity observed was hypothesized to originate from the iron-sulfides produced. The Fe S-Fe-Mo system showed a phase composition, porosity, and density similar to those of the MoS_2-Fe system, but an uneven distribution of iron-sulfides and Mo in this system resulted in less-optimal mechanical properties. Finally, the Fe S-Fe system showed the poorest mechanical properties among the systems studied because of the lack of Mo reinforcement. In friction tests, the formation of a sulfide layer contributed to a decrease in coefficient of friction(COF) in all of the samples. 展开更多

The dry sliding tribological behaviors of the mono composite and hybrid composites were studied as a function of temperature on high temperature pin-on-disc tribotester against EN 31 counterface. The wear rate and friction coefficient of the Gr-reinforced and Mo S2-reinforced hybrid composites decreased in the temperature range of 30-100 ℃ due to the combined lubrication offered by the wear protective layer and its solid lubricant phase. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) observation of the worn pin surface revealed severe adhesion, delamination, and abrasion wear mechanisms at temperatures of 150, 200, and 250 ℃, respectively. At 150 ℃, transmission electron microscopy(TEM) observation of the hybrid composites revealed the formation of deformation bands due to severe plastic deformation and fine crystalline structure due to dynamic recrystallization. 展开更多

Although graphene oxide(GO)has emerged as an excellent lubricant additive in water,there remain great challenges in their practical application due to high production costs.By taking into account the low cost and also its excellent tribological properties,it is likely that nano-SiO_(2)can be used as a lubricant additive to partially replace GO.Hence,this paper aims to explore the tribological properties of nano-SiO_(2)incorporated in GO nanofluids for partial GO replacement by investigating the friction coefficient and wear volume of the prepared SiO_(2)/GO hybrid nanofluids for magnesium alloy/steel sliding pairs.The experiments reveal that the SiO_(2)/GO hybrids retain low friction coefficients as compared to individual GO or SiO_(2)at all test conditions in this study.However,as for the bearing capacity test,all samples can provide a low wear volume under the loads of 1 and 3 N.With the increase of the normal load,there is considerable differences in the anti-wear behavior.Compared with that of individual GO nanofluids,the wear volume of the GO/SiO_(2)(mass ratio of 0.3:0.2)hybrid nanofluids was reduced by50.5%at 5 N and by 49.2%at 8 N.Furthermore,the wear volume of the GO/SiO_(2)(mass ratio of 0.3:0.2)hybrid nanofluids was reduced by46.3%under the rigorous conditions,as compared to individual GO nanofluids.The findings provide new insights into developing carbon nanomaterial-based hybrid nanofluids for magnesium alloy formation. 展开更多

Molybdenum disulfide(MoS_2) is one of the most commonly used solid lubricants for Cu–Fe-based friction materials. Nevertheless, MoS_2 reacts with metal matrices to produce metal sulfides(e.g., FeS) and Mo during sintering, and the lubricity of the composite may be related to the generation of FeS. Herein, the use of FeS as an alternative to MoS_2 for producing Cu–Fe-based friction materials was investigated. According to the reaction principle of thermodynamics, two composites—one with MoS_2(Fe–Cu–MoS_2 sample) and the other with FeS(FeS–Cu_2S–Cu–Fe–Mo sample), were prepared and their friction behaviors and mechanical properties were compared. The results showed that MoS_2 reacted with the Cu–Fe matrix to produce FeS, metallic ternary sulfides, and Mo when sintered at 1050°C. The MoS_2–Cu–Fe and FeS–Cu_2S–Cu–Fe–Mo samples thereby exhibited similar characteristics with respect to phase composition, density, hardness, and tribological behaviors. Micrographs of the worn surfaces revealed that the stable friction regime for both composites stemmed from the iron sulfides friction layers rather than from the molybdenum sulfides layers. 展开更多

The objective of this research is to prepare specially designed surface texture on hard steel surface by electrochemical micromachining (EM) and to incorporate electroless plated Ag/MoS2 solid lubricant coating into the dimples of EM textured steel surface to effectively reduce friction and wear of steel-steel contacts. The friction and wear behavior of the Ag/MoS2 solid lubricant coating on EM textured steel surface was evaluated in relation to the size and spacing of the dimples thereon. The microstructure of as-plated Ag/MoS2 solid lubricant coating and the morphology and elemental composition of the worn coating surface and counterface steel surface were analyzed by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive spectrometry. It is found that electroless plated Ag/MoS2 coating is able to greatly reduce the friction and wear of the EM textured steel disc coupled with GCr15 steel ring, mainly because of the formation of solid self-lubricating layer on the EM textured steel surface and of transferred lubricating film on counterface steel surface. The diameter and spacing of the dimples are suggested as 500 μm for acquiring the best wear resistance of the hard steel discs after electrochemical micromachining treatment and electroless plating of Ag/MoS2 solid lubricating coating. 展开更多

Using carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) as extraction agent, the activated sludge from Tianjin Jizhuangzi Sewage Treatment Plant as inoculum, the test study on biodegradability of lubricants was carried out. The test flasks containing the mineral medium, the test oil and the inoculum were placed in incubation together with flasks containing poisoned blanks for periods of 0 and 21 days, respectively. Flasks containing the reference materials in place of the test oil were run in parallel. At the end of the incubation period, the contents of the flasks were subjected to sonic vibration, and were acidified and extracted by using CCI4. The extracts were then analysed by infra-red (IR) spectrometer to measure the maximum absorption of the C-H stretch of CH2-CH3 band at wavelength of 2 930 cm^-1. The absorption values were used to calculate the residual oil contents of the poisoned and test flasks. Consequently the biodegradability of the test oil was calculated. The test results indicate that the differences in the biodegradability of test materials in different tests are within 5.5%, and consistent with the data described in Coordinating European Council (CEC) L-33- A-93. The biodegradability of lubricants can be evaluated by this method effectively. 展开更多

The lubricant behaviour at elevated temperatures was investigated by conducting pin-on-disc tests between P20 tool steel and AA7075 aluminium alloy. The effects of temperature, initial lubricant volume, contact pressure and sliding speed on the lubricant behaviour(i.e. evolutions of the coefficient of friction(COF) and the breakdown phenomenon) were experimentally studied. The evolutions of COF at elevated temperatures consisted of three distinct stages with different friction mechanisms. The first stage(stage Ⅰ) occurred with low friction when the boundary lubrication was present. The second stage(stage Ⅱ) was the transition process in which the COF rapidly increased as the lubricant film thickness decreased to a critical value. In the final plateau stage(stage Ⅲ), lubricant breakdown occurred and intimate contact at the interface led to high friction values. At the low friction stage(stage Ⅰ), the value of COF increased with increasing temperature. The increase in temperature, contact pressure and sliding speed as well as the decrease in initial lubricant volume accelerated the lubricant breakdown. 展开更多

Due to the biological risks of using the conventional lubricants,the vegetable oils have been considered nowadays.Besides,to improve the tribological properties of the vegetable oils in various applications like metal forming processes,nanoparticles have been used as additives.This research evaluated the lubrication performance of the Al2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles dispersed in rapeseed oil during the parallel tubular channel angular pressing (PTCAP) process.The experimental PTCAP tests have been fulfilled under three lubrication conditions and the comparison between the PTCAP processed tubes has been performed in terms of the maximum forming force,surface roughness,and microhardness.The experimental results indicate that adding the mentioned nanoparticles has caused at least a 50% reduction in the maximum deformation load.Moreover,a remarkable decrement in the surface roughness of the formed tubes has been obtained. 展开更多
