To determine and calculate the stable fluidization zone in a magnetically fluidized bed, the fluidization characteristics of magnetic particles are investigated. Four kinds of magnetic particles with different average diameters, ranging from 231 to 512 μm, are fluidized in the presence of magnetic fields with specified values of the intensity in the range of zero to 7330 A/m, and the particle fluidization curves are plotted. For marking the stable fluidization zone in the curves, the minimum bubbling velocities of particles are measured by the pressure-drop fluctuation. Based on the fluidization curves, the influences of the average particle diameter and magnetic field intensity on the zone are analyzed and discussed. A correlation to determine the stable fluidization zone is derived from the experimental data, using three dimensionless numbers, i. e., the ratio of magnetic potential to gravity potential, the Reynolds number and the Archimedes number. Compared with available data reported, it is shown that the correlation is more simplified to predict relative parameters for the bed operating in the state of stable fluidization under reasonable conditions. 展开更多

To reduce thrust ripple and cost and improve the average thrust of permanent magnet linear motors,a modular dual-field modulation permanent magnet linear motor was studied,and the parameters were optimized.First,sensitive parameters were selected using the Taguchi method,and then the optimal variables were sampled using the optimal Latin hypercube experimental design method and an ensemble of surrogates model of optimization objectives,and its accuracy was verified.Next,a multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm was used to optimize the purpose of“maximum average thrust and minimum thrust ripple”,and the Pareto front of average thrust and thrust ripple was obtained.Finite element analysis showed that the optimized modular dual flux-modulation permanent magnet linear motor(MDFMPMLM)had a 29.5%reduction in thrust ripple and a 5%increase in average thrust compared to the original motor.This study provided an effective method for improving the performance of permanent magnet linear motors. 展开更多

The static and dynamic magnetic controlling characteristics of NiMnGa magnetically controlled shape memory alloy (MSMA) were experimentally studied. The results show that the characteristics of induced strain with respect to the magnetic field are nonlinear with saturation nature, and dependent on the temperature as well as the load applied to the MSMA. The magnetic shape memory effect can be observed only in complete martensite phase at room temperature. The magnetic permeability of MSMA is not constant and reduces with the increment of magnetic field. The relative saturation magnetic permeability of MSMA is about 1.5. 展开更多

In this study, the changes of a vacuum arc's appearance were observed and the volt-ampere characteristics of the vacuum arc at intermediate frequency were analyzed under a transverse magnetic field (TMF). The TMF and phase shift time were calculated by using the TMF contact model and the large phase shift of the magnetic field at a higher frequency was conductive to the dispersion process of residual plasma. The arc velocity was higher at 800 Hz than at 400 Hz. It can be inferred that TMF will encourage arc movement at 800 Hz. Moreover, the arc movement has an impact on the arc voltage. Because of the increasing length of the arc column with a high arc velocity, the elongated arc causes the arc voltage to increase. Specifically, the volt-ampere characteristics of the vacuum arc are divided into three stages in this paper. The higher the frequency, the greater the initial rate of rise in the arc voltage and the larger the area surrounded by arc volt-ampere characteristics. The correlations between the arc voltage and the amplitude and frequency of the current are also presented. 展开更多

Current-voltage (l-V) characteristics of hydrogen DC plasma torches with different sizes in an external axial magnetic field under atmospheric pressure are reported. Three anodes with different diameters are adopted in a 50-kW torch: 25 mm, 30 mm, and 35 nun, respectively. Two different diameters of anodes, that is, 100 mm and 130 mm, are adopted in a 1-MW plasma torch. The arc voltage shows a negative trend with the increase of arc current under the operating regimes. On the contrary, arc voltage shows a positive trend as the flow rate of carder gas increases, and a similar trend is found with increasing the external magnetic flux density. A similarity formula is constructed to correlate the experimental data of the torches mentioned above. Linear fitting shows that the Pearson correlation coefficient is 0.9958. 展开更多

The characteristics of a magnetic fluid seal and its motion, including the speed and pressure distribution, and the seal capacity of a magnetic fluid rotating seal were systematically described. The factors affecting seal capacity and ways to improve seal capacity based on the hydrodynamic model are discussed. The basic condition for dynamic seal availability is presented. The rotating speed and radius of the shafts should be decreased. The work can provide proof of a seal design or suggest ways to improve the seal capacity of magnetic fluid seals. 展开更多

This paper is based on the example of a radial magnetic bearing possessed of eight-pole, and derives the calculation formulas of static and dynamic mechanical characteristics of the bearing, in which the shape and curvature of surface, eccentricity and tilt of the journal are taken into account. Variations of the static and dynamic characteristics of the radial magnetic bearing versus static tilt parameters of journal are discussed. The outcomes show that the static tilt of the journal has influence on the mechanical characteristics of radial magnetic bearing, and change the static load capacity between two radial magnetic bearings and exert coupling effect between them. To study the dynamics of a practical rotor-magnetic bearing system, at least six stiffness coefficients in each radial magnetic bearing must be considered in ideal case, and twelve stiffness coefficients must be considered in general case of tilting journal. Such a find can be used for the coupled electromechanical dynamics analysis of rotor system equipped with magnetic bearings. 展开更多

Electromagnetic relay is a widely used apparatus which usually works in a magnetic disturbance environment. To evaluate its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in a static magnetic field, dynamic characteristics of a clapper relay in a uniform static magnetic field situation based on the finite element method (FEM) is studied. Influences of the magnetic field on dynamic parameters (delay time, pick-up time, end pressure, and final velocity) as well as a situation in which the relay cannot function normally are analyzed. Simulation reveals that the external magnetic field which weakens the relay’s air-gap field has a greater influence on the relay’s dynamic parameters than the one strengthening the field. The validity of the simulation is verified by measured results of coil current and armature displacement. 展开更多

Analysis of magnetic properties of marine surface sediments has been gradually proved to be one of the effective means for researching the source of marine sediments. In this paper, samples from 39 sites in Liaodong Bay were collected to analyze the magnetic characteristics of the surface sediments. Magnetic study indicated that the surface sediments of the Liaodong Bay are char- acterized by magnetite. In the middle and eastern part and the southwest comer of the Bay, the main magnetic grains were coarse multi- domain and pseudo-single-domain particles, while in other areas single-domain and pseudo-single-domain particles constitute the majority. Based on grain size and environmental magnetism data, the content of magnetic minerals has a positive correlation with the hydrodynamic environment when the magnetic mineral domain is finer. However, the content of magnetic minerals is in a complex relationship with the hydrodynamic environment in the coarse magnetic domain of magnetic minerals found in central Liaodong Bay and places outside the Fuzhou Bay, implying that the strong hydrodynamic environment accelerates the sedimentation of coarse magnetic minerals. Based on geographic pattern of magnetic properties, it can be inferred that the main provenance of the surface sediments of the Liaodong Bay is the surrounding rivers, and the comparative analysis indicates that Yellow River substances maybe also exist in the bay. 展开更多

Jets are commonly observed astrophysical phenomena.To study the x-ray emission characteristics of jets,a series of radial foil Z-pinch experiments are carried out on the Primary Test Stand at the Institute of Fluid Physics,China Academy of Engineering Physics.In these experiments,x-ray emission ranging from the soft region(0.1–10 keV)to the hard region(10 keV–500 keV)is observed when the magnetic cavity breaks.The radiation flux of soft x-rays is measured by an x-ray diode and the dose rate of the hard x-rays by an Si-PIN detector.The experimental results indicate that the energy of the soft x-rays is several tens of kilojoules and that of the hard x-rays is∼200 J.The radiation mechanismof the x-ray emission is briefly analyzed.This analysis indicates that the x-ray energy and the plasma kinetic energy come from the magnetic energy when the magnetic cavity breaks.The soft x-rays are thought to be produced by bremsstrahlung of thermal electrons(∼100 eV),and the hard x-rays by bremsstrahlung of super-hot electrons(∼mega-electron-volt).These results may be helpful to explain the xray emission by the jets from young stellar objects. 展开更多

The static tilt of the runner disk has remarkable influence on the mechanical characteristics of thrust magnetic bearing, it can change the static load distribution between two radial magnetic bearings and will exert violent coupling effect among a thrust magnetic bearing and two radial magnetic bearings. We constructed a compact high-power RF pulse generator based on a gyro-magnetic nonlinear transmission line(GNLTL) to produce a high-voltage pulse with a sub-nanosecond rise time and a relatively high repetition rate, which shows great potential for application in the high-power ultrawideband electromagnetic effect, etc. The influence of incident pulse parameters(rise time and voltage amplitude) and line length on the sharpening characteristics of the GNLTL were investigated experimentally to optimize the rising rate of the modulated pulse front. Based on the GNLTL equivalent circuit model consisting of an LC ladder network, the rise time, the voltage conversion coefficient and the rising rate properties of a modulated pulse were also numerically analyzed in a wider range. The results show that a?>?90 k V RF pulse with a rise time of 350 ps and a repetition rate of 1 kHz in burst mode is produced by the GNLTL at an axial biasing magnetic field of 22 kA m^-1 and a line length of 30 cm under the condition of a 70 kV incident pulse. Applying a faster and higher incident pulse is conducive to improving the sharpening effect of the GNLTL. Furthermore, within a certain range, increasing the line length of the GNLTL not only reduces the rise time, but increases the voltage conversion coefficient and the rising rate of a modulated pulse. Furthermore, considering the energy loss of ferrite rings, there is an optimal line length to obtain the fastest rising rate of a modulated pulse front edge. 展开更多

The arcing process greatly affects the breaking ability after current zero.The instability stage is the transition stage from the ignition to the movement stage,which affects the arc movement characteristics.In this paper,the arc characteristics during the instability stage on spiral-type contacts were investigated using a high-speed video camera.A multi-column parallel instability mode and a single-column instability mode were found during the instability stage.The arc appearance and constriction degree changed rapidly.The arc voltage usually increased accompanied by fluctuations.In addition,it was found that the current significantly influenced the arc mode and duration in the instability stage.With increased peak current,the probability of a single-column instability mode increased,and the fluctuation range and average time decreased. 展开更多

The study area has complex regional geological structure, intense tectonic movement and frequent magmatic activities. Based on the latest high-precision aeromagnetic data, integrated interpretation was completed, combining with the existing geological and geophysical research results. The south coastal of Taizhou lies on the magmatic rock belt along the southeast coast of China,which has a complex regional geological structures,intense tectonic movement,and frequent magmatic activities.On the basis of the latest aeromagnetic data,combined with regional geology,gravity,and magnetic susceptibility information,integrated interpretation of the regional aeromagnetic anomalies and their refl ected faults was completed.According to the block features in diff erent zones of the reduction to the pole aeromagnetic data,the magnetic field characteristics and relationship with the structure division were described in detail.The different characteristics of the magnetic field are the concentrated reflection of tectonic movements,magmatic activities,and stratigraphic distributions;the fault structure,especially deep and large fault structures,was inferred and studied.The fault structures were mainly distributed in the NE,NNE,and NW directions,with approximately equal spacing between them.The magnetic anomaly is mainly characterized by the boundary,gradient zones,and beaded anomalies in a different magnetic field.The faults are not only important tectonic boundaries in this region but also tectonic belts that control the distribution of mineralization.Under the interaction of these faults,they form the basic structural pattern of the east-west zone and the north-south block.The NE faults have the largest scale and obviously control the diff erent magnetic fi elds and magmatic activities.The results can provide a reference for further study of the distribution and activity characteristics of magmatic rocks in the coastal zone. 展开更多

To better study the electromagnetic characteristics of silicon steel sheet for high-speed motor. In this article, a study on the calculation model of silicon sheet electromagnetic characteristics considers the effects of electromagnetic, stress, and temperature factors. The study is divided into two parts, one is to propose the calculation model of silicon steel sheet’s permeability;the other is to improve the calculation model of silicon steel sheet’s loss. Then, the magnetic field, stress field, and temperature field of a surface mount high speed permanent magnet motor(SMHSPMSM) are analyzed by finite element method(FEM), and the results under the consideration of magnetic, stress, and temperature factors are brought into the calculation model for calculation. Finally, the accuracy of the calculation model for electromagnetic characteristics of silicon steel sheet is verified by comparing the calculated results with the finite element results. 展开更多

The southern part of the Kyushu-Palau Ridge(KPR)is located at the conjunction of the West Philippine Basin,the Parece Vela Basin,the Palau Basin,and the Caroline Basin.This area has extremely complex structures and is critical for the research on the tectonic evolution of marginal seas in the Western Pacific Ocean.However,only few studies have been completed on the southern part,and the geophysical fields and deep structures in this part are not well understood.Given this,this study finely depicts the characteristics of the gravity and magnetic anomalies and extracts information on deep structures in the southern part of the KPR based on the gravity and magnetic data obtained from the 11th expedition of the deep-sea geological survey of the Western Pacific Ocean conducted by the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey,China Geological Survey using the R/V Haiyangdizhi 6.Furthermore,with the data collected on the water depth,sediment thickness,and multichannel seismic transects as constraints,a 3D density model and Moho depths of the study area were obtained using 3D density inversion.The results are as follows.(1)The gravity and magnetic anomalies in the study area show distinct zoning and segmentation.In detail,the gravity and magnetic anomalies to the south of 11°N of the KPR transition from high-amplitude continuous linear positive anomalies into low-amplitude intermittent linear positive anomalies.In contrast,the gravity and magnetic anomalies to the north of 11°N of the KPR are discontinuous and show alternating positive and negative anomalies.These anomalies can be divided into four sections,of which the separation points correspond well to the locations of deep faults,thus,revealing different field-source attributes and tectonic genesis of the KPR.(2)The Moho depth in the basins in the study area is 6-12 km.The Moho depth in the southern part of KPR show segmentation.Specifically,the depth is 10‒12 km to the north of 11°N,12‒14 km from 9.5°N to 11°N,14-16 km from 8.5°N to 9.5°N,and 16‒25 km in the Palau Islands.(3)The KPR is a remnant intra-oceanic arc with the oceanic-crust basement.which shows noticeably discontinuous from north to south in geological structure and is intersected by NEE-trending lithospheric-scale deep faults.With large and deep faults F3 and F1(the Mindanao fault)as boundaries overall,the southern part of the KPR can be divided into three zones.In detail,the portion to the south of 8.5°N(F3)is a tectonically active zone,the KPR portion between 8.5°N and 11°N is a tectonically active transition zone,and the portion to the north of 11°N is a tectonically inactive zone.(4)The oceanic crust in the KPR is slightly thicker than that in the basins on both sides of the ridge,and it is inferred that the KPR formed from the thickening of the oceanic crust induced by the upwelling of deep magma in the process of rifting of remnant arcs during the Middle Oligocene.In addition,it is inferred that the thick oceanic crust under the Palau Islands is related to the constant upwelling of deep magma induced by the continuous northwestward subduction of the Caroline Plate toward the Palau Trench since the Late Oligocene.This study provides a scientific basis for systematically understanding the crustal attributes,deep structures,and evolution of the KPR. 展开更多

A novel flux-switching permanent magnet linear motor(FSPMLM) is proposed for linear direct driving machine tools.First,the two-and three-dimensional topological configuration of the proposed motor is presented;the basic operational principle of the FSPMLM is introduced;and the magnetic fields at the two typical conditions of no-load are analyzed.Secondly,the FSPMLM is analyzed by the two-dimensional finite element method(FEM) to investigate the static electromagnetic characteristics such as flux-linkage,back EMF(electromotive force) and inductance performances.The cogging forces of two kinds of FSPMLMs with different shaped cores are analyzed and compared,and the results show that the cogging force is significantly reduced by using the E-shaped cores.Additionally,based on the co-energy method,the thrust equation is derived and verified by the simulation results obtained by the FEM.Finally,an experimental prototype is used to test the characteristics under open circuit and load conditions.The simulation and experimental results indicate that the proposed motor has advantages of a sinusoidal back-EMF waveform,a small cogging effect and a high thrust density,and it is suitable for the application of linear direct driving machine tools. 展开更多
