When grain size D>L_(ex), the grain’s anisotropy is the statistic value of the coupled and uncoupled part. The anisotropy constant of uncoupled part is the common value K_1 and that of coupled part varies with the distance to the grain surface. The effective anisotropy constant between magnetically soft and hard grains, K_(eff), can be expressed as the sum of the products of volume fractions for soft and hard grains, respectively, and the corresponding mean anisotropy constants. The calculation results indicate that the exchange-coupling interaction is enhanced with the reduction of grain size, and the effective anisotropy decreases with reducing grain size and increasing ratio of D_s∶D_h. In order to get high effective anisotropy constant, K_(eff), in composite magnetically soft-hard grains, the hard grain size should be larger than 30 nm and the soft grain size should be about 10 nm.展开更多

Some magnets have two Curie temperatures. Curie temperatures Tc1corresponds to the main phase which contains more La Ce, and Tc1 decreases from 276.5℃ to 256.6℃ with the content of MM increasing from 30.3 at.% to 50.6 at.%. The variation of Br with the increase of MM indicates the existence of inter-grain exchange coupling in the magnets. When MM/R ≤ 30.3 at.%,the magnetic properties can reach the level of the intrinsic coercivity Hcj≥ 7.11 kOe and the maximum energy product(BH)max≥ 41 MGOe. Compared with Nd, La and Ce are easier to diffuse to the grain boundaries in the sintering process, and this will cause the decrease of H(cj) Due to the diffusion between the grains, the atomic ratio of La, Ce, Pr, and Nd in each grain is different and the percentage of Nd in all grains is higher than that in misch metal.展开更多

The results show that the ferrimagnetic minerals of a pseudo single domain and multi domain particles dominate the magnetic properties of sediment in Core YDZ1. The imperfect anti ferrimagnetic minerals have more contribution on sediment in a depth of 24.0–22.1 m, and more stable-single domain and pseudo single domain particles exist. The susceptibility of anhysteretic remanent magnetization and the ratio of the susceptibility of anhysteretic remanent magnetization to saturation isothermal remanent magnetization show a decrease trend below depth of 24 m, a marked increase trend in a depth of 24.0–13.5 m, and a rapid decrease at depth of 13.5 m, then a fluctuation trend upward. The above two magnetic parameters and the ratio of the susceptibility of anhysteretic remanent magnetization to the mass susceptibility can be regarded as the proxy indicators for the content of clay(〈4 μm)and the fine-grained size(〈32 μm). The sedimentary environment after the last glacial maximum in the Huanghe Delta area has experienced the fluvial facies, the tidal flat facies, the neritic facies, the pro delta facies, the delta front facies and the floodplain facies. Thickness of the Holocene transgression layer is 10.5 m and the depth of substrate is about 24 m according to the YDZ1 core. The sedimentary dynamic has a variation trend with strongweak-strong, which has been proved by the Flemming triangular schema.展开更多

For the first time in Hawaii we have conducted an environmental pilot study of fine magnetic particles on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, of particulate matter (PM) PM = 60, PM = 10, and PM = 2.5. In order to do a rock magnetic characterization we have performed low field susceptibility vs. temperature [k-T] experiments to determine the Curie points of small particles collected from exhaust pipes, as well as from brake pads of four different types of car engines using gasoline octane ratings of 87, 89, and 92. The Curie point determinations are very well defined and range from 292<span style="color:#4F4F4F;font-family:" font-size:14px;white-space:normal;background-color:#ffffff;"="">°</span>C through 393<span style="white-space:normal;"><span style="color:#4F4F4F;font-family:" font-size:14px;white-space:normal;background-color:#ffffff;"="">°</span></span>C and up to 660<span style="color:#4F4F4F;font-family:" font-size:14px;white-space:normal;background-color:#ffffff;"="">°</span>C. In addition, we have conducted magnetic granulometry experiments on raw tobacco, burnt tobacco ashes, as well as on automotive engine exhaust, and brake pads in question. The results of the experiments show ferro and ferrimagnetic hysteresis loops with magnetic grain sizes ranging from superparamagnetic-multidomain [SP-MD], multidomain [MD] and pseudo-single domain [PSD] shown on the modified Day et al., diagram of <a href="#ref3">Dunlop (2002)</a>. Thus far, the results we have obtained from this pilot study are in agreement with other studies conducted from cigarette ashes from Bulgaria. Our results could be correlated to the traffic-related PM in Rome, Italy where the SP fraction mainly occurs as coating of MD particles originated by localized stress in the oxidized outer shell surrounding the un-oxidized core of magnetite-like grains. All these magnetic particles have been reported to be very harmful to our human bodies (i.e. brain, lungs, heart, liver etc.).展开更多

It is found that the lattice parameter ratio c/a of TbCu7-type crystal structure increases with Nb substitution, which indicates that the Nb can increase the stability of the metastable phase in the Sm-Fe ribbons. Nb substitution impedes the formation of magnetic soft phase a-Fe in which reversed domains initially form during the magnetization reversal process. Meanwhile, Nb substitution refines grains and leads to homogeneous micro structure with augmented grain boundaries. Thus the exchange coupling pining field is enhanced and irreversible domain wall propagation gets suppressed. As a result, the magnetic properties are improved and the irreversible flux loss of magnets is notably decreased. A maximum value 771.7 kA/m of the intrinsic coercivity H(cj) is achieved in the 1.2 at% substituted samples. The irreversible flux loss for 2 h exposure at 120 ℃ declines from 8.26% for Nb-free magnets to 6.32% for magnets with 1.2 at% Nb substitution.展开更多
