This article studies the Soret and Dufour effects on the magnetohydrody- namic (MHD) flow of the Casson fluid over a stretched surface. The relevant equations are first derived, and the series solution is constructed by the homotopic procedure. The results for velocities, temperature, and concentration fields are displayed and discussed. Numerical values of the skin friction coefficient, the Nusselt number, and the Sherwood number for different values of physical parameters are constructed and analyzed. The convergence of the series solutions is examined. 展开更多

Observations of transmission spectra reveal that hot Jupiters and Neptunes are likely to possess escaping atmospheres driven by stellar radiation.Numerous models predict that magnetic fields may exert significant influences on the atmospheres of hot planets.Generally, the escaping atmospheres are not entirely ionized, and magnetic fields only directly affect the escape of ionized components within them.Considering the chemical reactions between ionized components and neutral atoms,as well as collision processes, magnetic fields indirectly impact the escape of neutral atoms, thereby influencing the detection signals of planetary atmospheres in transmission spectra. In order to simulate this process,we developed a magnetohydrodynamic multi-fluid model based on MHD code PLUTO.As an initial exploration,we investigated the impact of magnetic fields on the decoupling of H^(+)and H in the escaping atmosphere of the hot Neptune GJ436b.Due to the strong resonant interactions between H and H^(+),the coupling between them is tight even if the magnetic field is strong.Of course, alternatively, our work also suggests that merging H and H^(+)into a single flow can be a reasonable assumption in MHD simulations of escaping atmospheres. However, our simulation results indicate that under the influence of magnetic fields, there are noticeable regional differences in the decoupling of H^(+)and H.With the increase of magnetic field strength, the degree of decoupling also increases. For heavier particles such as O,the decoupling between O and H^(+)is more pronounced. Our findings provide important insights for future studies on the decoupling processes of heavy atoms in the escaping atmospheres of hot Jupiters and hot Neptunes under the influence of magnetic fields. 展开更多

We consider a nonlinear hyperbolic system of two conservation laws which arises in ideal magnetohydrodynamics and includes second-order terms accounting for magnetic resistivity and Hall effect. We show that the initial value problem for this model may lead to solutions exhibiting complex wave structures, including undercompressive nonclassical shock waves. We investigate numerically the subtle competition that takes place between the hyperbolic, diffusive, and dispersive parts of the system. Following Abeyratne, Knowles, LeFloch, and Truskinovsky, who studied similar questions arising in fluid and solid flows, we determine the associated kinetic function which characterizes the dynamics of undereompressive shocks driven by resistivity and Hall effect. To this end, we design a new class of "schemes with eontroled dissipation", following recent work by LeFloch and Mohammadian. It is now recognized that the equivalent equation associated with a scheme provides a guideline to design schemes that capture physically relevant, nonclassical shocks. We propose a new class of schemes based on high-order entropy conservative, finite differences for the hyperbolic flux, and high-order central differences for the resistivity and Hall terms. These schemes are tested for several regimes of (co-planar or not) initial data and parameter values, and allow us to analyze the properties of nonclassical shocks and establish the existence of monotone kinetic functions in magnetohydrodynamics. 展开更多

The primary aim of this research endeavor is to examine the characteristics of magnetohydrodynamicWilliamson nanofluid flow past a nonlinear stretching surface that is immersed in a permeable medium. In the current analysis, the impacts of Soret and Dufour(cross-diffusion effects)have been attentively taken into consideration.Using appropriate similarity variable transformations, the governing nonlinear partial differential equations were altered into nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then solved numerically using the Runge Kutta Fehlberg-45 method along with the shooting technique.Numerical simulations were then perceived to show the consequence of various physical parameters on the plots of velocity, temperature, and concentration of the nanofluid flow.Boosting the magnetic,Williamson, porosity, and stretching sheet index parameters, the velocity of the fluid flow decreases. The temperature is enhanced as theWilliamson and Brownian motion parameters upsurge, but it decreases as the Prandtl, thermophoresis, stretching sheet index, and Dufour parameters escalate. The concentration distribution decreases as the thermophoresis andmagnetic parameters upsurge, but it escalates as the Soret,Schmidt,Brownian motion, and stretching sheet index parameters increase.Skin friction coefficient boosted as the stretching sheet index and magnetic parameters enhanced against the Williamson parameter. The findings from this study have been contrasted with earlier findings on local Nusselt numbers, which show substantial support and endorse the existing approach’s validity. The numerical values of the local Sherwood number gradually increase as the Schmidt,Soret, stretching sheet index, and thermophoresis parameters are upsurged. 展开更多

This study investigates the influence of periodic heat flux and viscous dissipation on magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)flow through a vertical channel with heat generation.A theoretical approach is employed. The channel is exposed to a perpendicular magnetic field, while one side experiences a periodic heat flow, and the other side undergoes a periodic temperature variation.Numerical solutions for the governing partial differential equations are obtained using a finite difference approach, complemented by an eigenfunction expansion method for analytical solutions.Visualizations and discussions illustrate how different variables affect the flow velocity and temperature fields. This offers comprehensive insights into MHD flow behavior and its interactions with the magnetic field, heat flux, viscous dissipation, and heat generation. The findings hold significance for engineering applications concerning fluid dynamics and heat transfer, offering valuable knowledge in this field. The study concludes that the transient velocity and temperature profiles exhibit periodic patterns under periodic heat flow conditions.A temperature reduction is observed with an increase in the wall temperature phase angle. In contrast,an increase in the heat flux phase angle values raises the temperature values. 展开更多

This study examines the effects of heat, mass, and boundary layer assumptions-based nanoparticle characteristics on the hybrid effects of using MHD in conjunction with mixed convective flow through a sloped vertical pore plate in the existence of medium of porous. Physical characteristics such as thermo-diffusion, injection-suction, and viscous dissipation are taken into consideration, in addition to an equally distributed magnetic force utilized as well in the completely opposite path of the flow. By means of several non-dimensional transformations, the momentum, energy, concentration, and nanoparticle volume fraction equations under investigation are converted in terms of nonlinear boundary layer equations and computationally resolved by utilizing the sixth-order Runge-Kutta strategy in combination together with the iteration of Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting procedure. By contrasting the findings produced for a few particular examples with those found in the published literature, the correctness of the numerical result is verified, and a rather good agreement is found. Utilizing various ranges of pertinent factors, computing findings are determined not only regarding velocity, temperature, and concentration as well as nanoparticle fraction of volume but also concerning with local skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt and general Sherwood numbers associated with nanoparticle Sherwood number. The findings of the study demonstrate that increasing the fluid suction parameter decreases the velocity and temperature of the flow field in conjunction with concentration and has a variable impact on the nanoparticle fraction of volume, despite an increasing behavior in the local skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt as well as general Sherwood numbers and an increasing behavior in the local nanoparticle Sherwood number. Furthermore, enhancing a Schmidt number leads to a reduction in the local nanoparticle Sherwood number and a rise in the nanoparticle proportion of volume. Along with concentration, it also reduces temperature and velocity. However, it also raises the local Sherwood and Nusselt numbers and reduces the local skin friction coefficient. 展开更多

In this research, we modeled MHD third grade blood flow in a stenosed artery. The blood viscosity and the density have been modeled into the shear thinning/thickening parameters, the most important rheological properties of blood. We used regular perturbation method and obtained the flow characteristics such as the flow velocity, the volume flow rate, the shear stress and the resistance to the flow considering a single layered stenosed artery. The results however showed that there is significant increase in volume flow rate and the velocity with increase in the magnetic field intensity H and the shear thinning Λ and reduces with increase in the shear thickening Ω. 展开更多

Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection under strong magnetic field and volumetric heat source for buoyancy-assisted flows are studied numerically in this paper. Blanket is one of key components for energy conversion in Tokamak fusion reactor. The physical model employed for simulations is refined from dual-coolant lead-lithium (DCLL) blanket. A magnetic-convection code based on a consistent and conservative scheme is developed with the help of finite volume method, and validated by some Benchmark analytical solutions. The flows inside duct with thermal insulating and electric conducting walls under exponential neutron volumetric heat source are simulated. Based on Boussinesq assumption, the influences of wall electrical conductivity and buoyancy on velocity fields, temperature distributions and Nusselt numbers are investigated. Results illustrates that the wall conductance ratio dominates the flow at low Grashof numbers and high wall conductance ratio, while buoyancy effect dominates the jet flow near side wall at a high Grashof number. In addition, the velocity along flow direction substantially impacts features of the Nusselt number and temperature distribution. Besides, the jet flow results in a higher Nusselt number and lower temperature. 展开更多

Taking into account the slip flow effects, Newtonian heating, and thermal radiation, two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows and heat transfer past a permeable stretching sheet are investigated numerically. We use one parameter group transformation to develop similarity transformation. By using the similarity transformation, we transform the governing boundary layer equations along with the boundary conditions into ordinary differential equations with relevant boundary conditions. The obtained ordinary differential equations are solved with the fourth-fifth order Runge-Kutta- Fehlberg method using MAPLE 13. The present paper is compared with a published one. Good agreement is obtained. Numerical results for dimensionless velocity, temperature distributions, skin friction factor, and heat transfer rates are discussed for various values of controlling parameters. 展开更多

This paper studies stratified magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of tan- gent hyperbolic nanofluid past an inclined exponentially stretching surface. The flow is subjected to velocity, thermal, and solutal boundary conditions. The partial differential systems are reduced to ordinary differential systems using appropriate transformations. The reduced systems are solved for convergent series solutions. The velocity, temperature, and concentration fields are discussed for different physical parameters. The results indi- cate that the temperature and the thermal boundary layer thickness increase noticeably for large values of Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects. It is also observed that the buoyancy parameter strengthens the velocity field, showing a decreasing behavior of temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles. 展开更多

A magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) power generator system involves several subjects such as magnetohydrodynamics, plasma physics, material science, and structure mechanics. Therefore, the performance of the MHD power generator is affected by many factors, among which the load coefficient k is of great importance. This paper reveals the effect of some system parameters on the performance by three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulation for a Faraday type MHD power generator using He/Xe as working plasma. The results show that average electrical conductivity increases first and then decreases with the addition of magnetic field intensity. Electrical conductivity reaches the maximum value of 11.05 S/m, while the applied magnetic field strength is B = 1.75 T. When B 〉 3 T, the ionization rate along the midline well keeps stable, which indicates that the ionization rate and three-body recombination rate (three kinds of particles combining to two kinds of particles) are approximately equal, and the relatively stable plasma structure of the mainstream is preserved. Efficiency of power generation of the Faraday type channel increases with an increment of the load factor. However, enthalpy extraction first increases to a certain value, and then decreases with the load factor. The enthalpy extraction rate reaches the maximum when the load coefficient k equals 0.625, which is the best performance of the power generator channel with the maximum electricity production. 展开更多

The Dufour and Soret effects on the unsteady twodimensional magnetonyaro dynamics (MHD) doublediffusive free convective flow of an electrically conducting fluid past a vertical plate embedded in a nonDarcy porous medium are investigated numeri cally. The governing nonlinear dimensionless equations are solved by an implicit finite difference scheme of the CrankNicolson type with a tridiagonal matrix manipulation. The effects of various parameters entering into the problem on the unsteady dimension less velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles are studied in detail. Furthermore, the time variation of the skin friction coefficient, the Nusselt number, and the Sherwood number is presented and analyzed. The results show that the unsteady velocity, tem perature, and concentration profiles are substantially influenced by the Dufour and Soret effects. When the Dufour number increases or the Soret number decreases, both the skin friction and the Sherwood number decrease, while the Nusselt number increases. It is found that, when the magnetic parameter increases, the velocity and the temperature decrease in the boundary layer. 展开更多

The effect of the Hall current on the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) natural convection flow from a vertical permeable flat plate with a uniform heat flux is analyzed in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. It is assumed that the induced magnetic field is negligible compared with the imposed magnetic field. The boundary layer equations are reduced to a suitable form by employing the free variable formulation (FVF) and the stream function formulation (SFF).The parabolic equations obtained from FVF are numerically integrated with the help of a straightforward finite difference method. Moreover, the nonsimilar system of equations obtained from SFF is solved by using a local nonsimilarity method, for the whole range of the local transpiration parameter ζ.Consideration is also given to the regions where the local transpiration parameter ζ is small or large enough. However,in these particular regions, solutions are acquired with the aid of a regular perturbation method. The effects of the magnetic field M and the Hall parameter m on the local skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number coefficient are graphically shown for smaller values of the Prandtl number P r (= 0.005,0.01,0.05).Furthermore,the velocity and temperature profiles are also drawn from various values of the local transpiration parameter ζ. 展开更多
