Finite Element Simulation of Flexible Roll Forming with Supplemented Material Data and the Experimental Verification 被引量:8

Flexible roll forming is a promising manufacturing method for the production of variable cross section products. Considering the large plastic strain in this forming process which is much larger than that of uniform deformation phase of uniaxial tensile test, the widely adopted method of simulating the forming processes with non-supplemented material data from uniaxial tensile test will certainly lead to large error. To reduce this error, the material data is supplemented based on three constitutive models. Then a finite element model of a six passes flexible roll forming process is established based on the supplemented material data and the original material data from the uniaxial tensile test. The flexible roll forming experiment of a B pillar reinforcing plate is carried out to verify the proposed method. Final cross section shapes of the experimental and the simulated results are compared. It is shown that the simulation calculated with supplemented material data based on Swift model agrees well with the experimental results, while the simulation based on original material data could not predict the actual deformation accurately. The results indicate that this material supplement method is reliable and indispensible, and the simulation model can well reflect the real metal forming process. Detailed analysis of the distribution and history of plastic strain at different positions are performed. A new material data supplement method is proposed to tackle the problem which is ignored in other roll forming simulations, and thus the forming process simulation accuracy can be greatly improved. 展开更多

Knowledge of different effects of various organic materials on soil humic substance is important for both environmental safety and sustainable agriculture.A pot experiment was conducted at Jilin Agricultural University,Jilin Province in northeast China to discover the influence of herb residue,animal excrement,woody residue,animal remnant on fulvic acid(FA) composition and structure using differential thermal analysis-thermogravimetric(DTA-TG),fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and elemental analysis.DTA-TG showed the range of peak temperature in the first exothermic reaction increased following the trend: CK〉herb residue〉animal excrement〉woody residue=animal remnant,and the most weight loss was observed in animal excrement.Moreover,the second exothermic reaction of CK-and animal excrement-FA was presented as double peaks,the order of weight loss in that area was animal remnant〉CK〉woody residue〉animal excrement〉herb residue.According to FTIR,herb residue displayed higher adsorption intensity at 2 950,1 420,1 240 and 1 030 cm-1,animal excrement was in reverse.At the same time,herb residue-and animal excrement-FA had an absorption peak at 1 720 cm-1,while other organic materials didn't have this peak.As elemental analysis showed,FA isolated from various treatments was significantly distinct.It was clearly shown from our results that FA composition and structure in amended soils may be affected in different ways and at various extents on dependence of the nature and origin of amendment. 展开更多

This paper presents a hybrid graded element model for the transient heat conduction problem in functionally graded materials (FGMs). First, a Laplace transform approach is used to handle the time variable. Then, a fundamental solution in Laplace space for FGMs is constructed. Next, a hybrid graded element is formulated based on the obtained fundamental solution and a frame field. As a result, the graded properties of FGMs are naturally reflected by using the fundamental solution to interpolate the intra-element field. Further, Stefest's algorithm is employed to convert the results in Laplace space back into the time-space domain. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is assessed by several benchmark examples. The results demonstrate well the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. 展开更多

The size effects of microstructure of lattice materials on structural analysis and minimum weight design are studied with extented multiscale finite element method(EMsFEM) in the paper. With the same volume of base material and configuration, the structural displacement and maximum axial stress of micro-rod of lattice structures with different sizes of microstructure are analyzed and compared.It is pointed out that different from the traditional mathematical homogenization method, EMsFEM is suitable for analyzing the structures which is constituted with lattice materials and composed of quantities of finite-sized micro-rods.The minimum weight design of structures composed of lattice material is studied with downscaling calculation of EMsFEM under stress constraints of micro-rods. The optimal design results show that the weight of the structure increases with the decrease of the size of basic sub-unit cells. The paper presents a new approach for analysis and optimization of lattice materials in complex engineering constructions. 展开更多

Considering some simple topological properties of vorticity vector, the frozen-in property of vorticity herein is revis- ited. A vortex line, as is analogous to velocity vector along a streamline, is defined as such a coincident material (curve) line that connects many material fluid elements, on which the local vorticity vector for each fluid element is also tangent to the vortex line. The vortex line evolves in the same manner as the material line that it is initially associated with. The vortex line and the material line are both oriented to the same directions, and evolve with the proportional magnitude, just like being 'frozen' or 'glued' to the material elements of the fluid under the barotropic assumption. To relax the limits of incompressible and barotropic atmosphere, the frozen-in property is further derived and proved in the baroclinic case. Then two effective usages are given as examples. One is the derivation of potential vorticity conservation from the frozen-in property in both barotropic and baroclinic atmospheres, as a theory application, and the other is used to illuminate the vorticity generation and growth in ideal cases and real severe weather process, e.g., in squall line, tornado, and other se- vere convection weather with vortex. There is no necessity to derive vorticity equation, and this method is very intuitive to explain vorticity development qualitatively, especially for fast analysis for forecasters. Certainly, by investigating the evolution of vortex line, it is possible to locate the associated line element vector and its development on the basis of the frozen-in property of vorticity. Because it is simple and visualized, it manifests broad application prospects. 展开更多

The chemical characteristics,element contents,mineral compositions,and the ameliorative effects on acid soils of five biomass ashes from different materials were analyzed. The chemical properties of the ashes varied depending on the source biomass material. An increase in the concrete shuttering contents in the biomass materials led to higher alkalinity,and higher Ca and Mg levels in biomass ashes,which made them particularly good at ameliorating effects on soil acidity. However,heavy metal contents,such as Cr,Cu,and Zn in the ashes,were relatively high. The incorporation of all ashes increased soil p H,exchangeable base cations,and available phosphorus,but decreased soil exchangeable acidity. The application of the ashes from biomass materials with a high concrete shuttering content increased the soil available heavy metal contents. Therefore,the biomass ashes from wood and crop residues with low concrete contents were the better acid soil amendments. 展开更多

In the DEM model, the fixed mean values of the experimentally determined single particle data, such as the particle density, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio as well as the sliding and rolling friction coefficients were incorporated to analyse their effects on the macroscale indicators, such as the wall pressure, discharge velocities and material outflow parameters. The effect of rolling friction was studied based on the experimentally measured single particle rolling friction coefficient. This analysis is aimed at the quantitative prediction of flow parameters as related to the identification of material parameters. 展开更多

Preparation of rare-earth element doped Mg_2Si by FAPAS

Rare-earth elements(Re) Sc and Y doped Mg_2Si thermoelectric materials were made via a field-activated and pressure-assisted synthesis(FAPAS) method at 1023-1073 K,50 MPa for 15 min.The samples created using this method have uniform and compact structures.The average grain size was about 1.5-2μm,the micro-content of Re did not change the matrix morphology.The sample with 2500 ppm Sc obtained the best Seebeck coefficient absolute value,about 1.93 times of that belonging to non-doped Mg_2Si at about 408 K.The electric conductivity of the sample doped with 2000 ppm Y becomes 1.69 times of that of pure Mg_2Si at 468 K,while the former had a better comprehensive electrical performance.Their thermal conductivity was reduced to 70%and 84% of that of non-doped Mg_2Si.Thus,the figure of merit and ZT of these two samples were enhanced visibly,which were 3.3 and 2.4 times of the non-doped samples at 408 K and 468 K,respectively.The maximal ZT belonging to samples doped with 2500 ppm Sc went up to 0.42 at about 498 K,higher than 0.40 of sample doped with 2000 ppm Y at 528 K and 0.25 of non-doped Mg_2Si at 678 K,and the samples doped with Sc seemed to get the best thermoelectric performances at lower temperature. 展开更多

Aerosol observation was conducted for four seasons from September 2001 to August 2002 at five sampling sites in Hangzhou, South China, on PM10 mass, 22 elements (Na, Mg, AI, Si, P, S, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As. Se, Br, Cd, Ba, and Pb), 5 major ions (F^-, Cl^ , NO3^-, SO4^2- , and NH4^+), and organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), showing that PM10 mass ranged from 46.7 to 270.8 μg/m^3, with an annual average of 119.2 μg/m^3. Na, AI, Si, S, K, Ca, and Fe were the most abundant elements in PM10, most of S being in the form of SO4^2- . SO4^2-, NO3^-, and NH4^+ were the major ions, which contributed to about 20% of the PM10 mass. The mean seasonal concentrations for SO4^2- , averaged over all sites, were found to be 18.0, 18.5, 24,Z and 21.4 μg/m^3, for spring, summer, autumn, and winter, respectively, while the corresponding loadings for NO3^- were 7.2, 4.7, 7.1, and 11.2 μg/m^3, and for NH4^+ were 6.0, 5.9, 8.2, and 9.3 μg/m^3, in the form mostly of NH4NO3 in spring, autumn, and winter, and mostly of (NH4)2SO4 in summer. The low NO3^-/SO4^2- ratio found indicates coal combustion as the major source throughout the year. The mean annual concentrations of OC and EC in PM10 were found to be 21.4, and 4.1 μg/m^3, respectively. Material balance calculation indicated that fugitive dust, the secondary aerosol, and carbonaceous matter were the most abundant species in PM10 for the four seasons, as is characteristic for cities in South China. 展开更多

The mixing performance of a multi-bladed baffle inserted into a traditional Gallay tote blender is explored by graphic processing unit-based discrete element method software. The mixing patterns and rates are investigated for a binary mixture, represented by two different colors, under several loading profiles. The baffle effectively enhances the convective mixing both in the axial and radial directions, because of the disturbance it causes to the initial flowing layer and solid-body zone, compared with a blender without a baffle. The axial mixing rate is affected by the gap between the baffle and the wall on the left and right sides, and an optimal blade length corresponds to the maximum mixing rate. However, the radial mixing rate increases with the blade length almost monotonically. 展开更多

An experimental setup for cold extrusion process with electric-hydraulic chattering was developed and its working principle was introduced. The finite element (FE) model for a kind of cup part (material: 20Cr) was built by using the software Deform-3D. FE simulation experiments with and without electric-hydraulic chattering were carried out to analyze the velocity fields and the metal grid flow lines. The extrusion ex- periments of the cup part were also performed under different conditions. The difference of metal flow lines with and without electric-hydraulic chattering was discussed via a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the Keyence super-depth three-dimensional microscopic system. The results showed that with the electric-hydraulic chattering, the velocity of material flow increases, whereas deformation resistance decreases. Electric hydraulic chattering results in easy metal flow, small bending degree of metal flow lines, slender and dense metal grains, and thereby an improved quality of the deformed parts. 展开更多

Drumheadlike surface states are typical characteristics in nodal line semimetals and bring varieties of unusual attractive properties.Here we demonstrate the double drumheadlike surface states in group V elemental semimetals As,Sb,Bi,which family materials behave a nodal line topology with a 3D flowerlike nodal line,using first-principles calculations.On(001)surface of group V elemental semimetals,the projection pattern of the nodal line overlaps and a complicated double drumheadlike surface state appears inside the overlapped region.This double surface state is widely distributed on the surface region up to a penetration depth of 3.5 nm,which is much deeper than the depth of single surface state on(111)surface.Given that the simplicity of the elemental structure and the small gap induced by the spin orbit coupling,this family materials are promising candidates for the experimental observation of the novel double drumheadlike surface state. 展开更多

The polyurethane, which was the subject of the constitutive research presented in the paper, was based on oligocarbonate diols Desmophen C2100 produced by Bayer?. The constitutive modelling was performed with a view to applying the material as the inlay of intervertebral disc prostheses. The polyurethane was assumed to be non-linearly viscohyperelastic, isotropic and incompressible. The constitutive equation was derived from the postulated strain energy function. The elastic and rheological constants were identified on the basis of experimental tests, i.e. relaxation tests and monotonic uniaxial tests at two different strain rates, i.e. λ= 0.1 min-1 and λ= 1.0 min-1. The stiffness tensor was derived and introduced to Abaqus?finite element(FE) software in order to numerically validate the constitutive model. The results of the constants identification and numerical implementation show that the derived constitutive equation is fully adequate to model stress-strain behavior of the polyurethane material. 展开更多
