METHODS:Fifteen subjects were recruited. The corneal images from optical coherence tomography(OCT)were imported into Matlab software. Five edge detection methods(Canny,Log,Prewitt,Roberts,Sobel)were used to identify the corneal surface. Then two manual identifying methods(ginput and getpts)were applied to identify the edge coordinates respectively. The differences among these methods were compared. Binomial curve(y=Ax2+Bx+C),Polynomial curve [p(x)=p1xn+p2x(n-1)+....+pnx+pn+1] and Conic section(Ax2+Bxy+Cy2+Dx+Ey+F=0)were used for curve fitting the corneal surface respectively. The relative merits among three fitting curves were analyzed. Finally, the eccentricity(e)obtained by corneal topography and conic section were compared with paired t-test. RESULTS:Five edge detection algorithms all had continuous coordinates which indicated the edge of the corneal surface. The ordinates of manual identifying were close to the inside of the actual edges. Binomial curve was greatly affected by tilt angle. Polynomial curve was lack of geometrical properties and unstable. Conic section could calculate the tilted symmetry axis, eccentricity, circle center, etc. There were no significant differences between 'e' values by corneal topography and conic section(t=0.9143,P=0.3760 〉0.05).CONCLUSION:It is feasible to simulate the corneal surface with mathematical curve with Matlab software. Edge detection has better repeatability and higher efficiency. The manual identifying approach is an indispensable complement for detection. Polynomial and conic section are both the alternative methods for corneal curve fitting. Conic curve was the optimal choice based on the specific geometrical properties.展开更多

The primary health care centers are not equipped with sophisticated equipments. Medicine is about medication, treatment and management. In rural areas treatment is not available either because of accessibility or affordability. Even the few doctors that are available are not in primary health care centres. Well conserved one-dimensional non-linear equations of blood flow describing blood flow in distensible blood vessels were used to develop software. This model could describe discontinuities and disruption in blood flow. The computer software can be used for detecting artherosclerosis, stenosis and differentiation of haemorrhagic and ischaemic strokes for stroke management from simple measurements. The software developed is capable of computing the Siriraj and the Allen clinical scores. These scores have been proposed to help clinicians in making decisions while waiting for results of computerized tomography, hence clinicians can start anti-thrombotic treatment while waiting for the scan results. It is capable of simulating stenosis at different position and depth of flow along the arterial length, and can be used for diagnosis. The medical emphasis is on avoiding possible occurrence, every individual can know his status by inputting the required data such as flow and geometry of their arteries into the developed interface and such measurements can be obtained from simple Doppler measurements.展开更多

The circular model uses arcs and tangent lines as the yarn flexion shape and selects the circle as the yarn cross-section. Then, a new elliptical cross-section mathematical model is rapidly built by the Jaeobian transformation of the circular model. The Matiab software is used for the 3D simulation. It is shown that 3D simulations of woven fabrics with different weft and warp yarn counts, weft and warp densities, structure phases, weaves and flattening coefficients are successfully realized by Matiab basing on the elliptical mathematical model.展开更多

Extrusion process was first modelized using the continuum mechanics method before being simulated with the commercial software LS-DYNA using the Johnson-Cook model based on the finite element method after optimization of the factors with simplex algorithm. The study was carried out on a connecting rod: diameter of 145 mm, cross-section of 1.65 m2, length of 0.25 m, volume of 0.41 m3 and a mass of 37 kg. Optimum parameters obtained were temperature of 850℃, flow rate of 0.237 m/s, die diameter of 19.2 mm, pin diameter of 14 mm, extrusion strength of 565.6 kN and press pressure of 245 GPa. From these factors, a blank was obtained with external and internal diameters of 19.2 and 14 mm respectively over a length of 28 m with a thickness of 2.6 mm. Simulation using LS-DYNA software resulted in a difference in values of 7.4% between optimization and simulation when the difference of 2.4% was found between modelling and simulation. These values make the process optimal for industrial application to improve the extrusion requirements of copper tubes.展开更多

Besides, development of new constructive solutions for shock absorbers is quite popular development of their working mathematical models. This paper presents modem shock absorber with elastic block made from polymer elements that increase quantity of absorbed energy. This is achieved by increasing the stiffness characteristic of polymer elastic block. The construction is relatively simple and technology used to create the construction is with more or less low price. If there is not enough elastic stiffness of the polymer block, there is a possibility for not meeting the UIC (International Union of Railways) norms for absorbed energy. Therefore, according to the mentioned characteristic, shock absorbers are divided into three groups. The mathematical model presented in this paper allows calculating the necessary elastic characteristic of the polymer block for a short time. Differential equation of movement of the shock absorber elements is presented in this paper. Force change of polymer block for various impact velocities participates in the differential equation of movement where initial velocity V0 and the current meaning of the velocity x are taken into consideration. The presented equation is solved by using program language MATLAB/Simulink by developing a simulation model.展开更多

Innovative economic optimization systems are widely needed to face the problem of the dynamic of the poverty in Burundi. The Burundian economy shows an inflation rate of -1.5% in 2018 for the Gross Domestic Product growth real rate of 2.8% in 2016. In this research, the aim is to find a model that contributes to solving the problem of poverty in Burundi. The results of this research fill the knowledge gap in the modeling and optimization of the Burundian economic system. The aim of this model is to solve an optimization problem combining the variables of production, consumption, budget, human resources and available raw materials. Scientific modeling and optimal solving of the poverty problem show the tools for measuring poverty rate and determining various countries’ poverty levels when considering advanced knowledge. In addition, investigating the aspects of poverty will properly orient development aid to developing countries and thus, achieve their objectives of growth and the fight against poverty. This paper provides a new and innovative framework for global scientific research regarding the multiple facets of this problem. An estimate of the poverty rate allows good progress with the theory and optimization methods in measuring the poverty rate and achieving sustainable development goals. By comparing the annual food production and the required annual consumption, there is an imbalance between different types of food. Proteins, minerals and vitamins produced in Burundi are sufficient when considering their consumption as required by the entire Burundian population. This positive contribution for the latter comes from the fact that some cows, goats, fishes, ···, slaughtered in Burundi come from neighboring countries. Real production remains in deficit. The lipids, acids, calcium, fibers and carbohydrates produced in Burundi are insufficient for consumption. This negative contribution proves a Burundian food deficit. It is a decision-making indicator for the design and updating of agricultural policy and implementation programs as well as projects. Investment and economic growth are only possible when food security is mastered. The capital allocated to food investment must be revised upwards. Demographic control is also a relevant indicator to push forward Burundi among the emerging countries in 2040. Meanwhile, better understanding of the determinants of poverty by taking cultural and organizational aspects into account guides managers for poverty reduction projects and programs.展开更多
