A unit cell is composed of atoms that are connected to some of their first neighbors by chemical bonds. A recent rule, entitled the even-odd rule, introduced a new way to calculate the number of covalent bonds around an atom. It states that around an uncharged atom, the number of bonds and the number of electrons have the same parity. In the case of a charged atom on the contrary, both numbers have different parity. The aim of the present paper is to challenge the even-odd rule on chemical bonds in well-known crystal structures. According to the rule, atoms are supposed to be bonded exclusively through single-covalent bonds. A distinctive criterion, only applicable to crystals, states that atoms cannot build more than 8 chemical bonds, as opposed to the classical model, where each atom in a crystal is connected to every first neighbor without limitation. Electrical charges can be assigned to specific atoms in order to compensate for extra or missing bonds. More specifically the article considers di-atomic body-centered-cubic, tetra-atomic and dodeca-atomic single-face-centered-cubic crystals. In body-centered crystals, atoms are interconnected by 8 covalent bonds. In face-centered crystal, the unit cell contains 4 or 12 atoms. For di-element crystals, the total number of bonds for both elements is found to be identical. The neutrality of the unit cell is obtained with an opposite charge on the nearest or second-nearest neighbor. To conclude, the even-odd rule is applicable to a wide number of compounds in known cubic structures and the number of chemical bonds per atom is not related to the valence of the elements in the periodic table.展开更多

It considers family as partners and collaborators in care of children. It aims at involving family in all aspects of child care. Family centered care also mentions involvement of child. However, emphasis is given more on family than child and does not take into account the older child’s capacity for independent decision making and right to privacy. As such, child’s needs are missed out. With child centered care, children are involved and supported at all levels of care based on their age and developmental stage. This paper aims to stress the importance of involving children within family centered care. Involving children in their care, makes them feel less threatened by the health care professional and their self esteem is promoted. Currently, no studies have been identified in Malawi that demonstrates full partnership between the family, child and the nurse. Furthermore, Family Centered Care and Child Centered Care as models are not fully practiced. It is therefore important to practice both family and child centered care in child health care if the needs of both family and children are to be addressed concurrently.展开更多

There is a scarcity of anesthetic literature regarding communication skills in the perioperative period. The goal is to analyze to what extent empathic patient-centered communication methods are being used by anesthesia providers. Communication scores will be compared among providers, as well as to providers across several different subspecialties. Methods: This study is an observational descriptive study at a large tertiary care center, University Hospital in Newark, NJ. The observer observes and grades patient interviews, scoring against established criteria using an adapted version of the Kalamazoo grading tool. The researcher observes and grades the preoperative interview using the adapted Kalamazoo scale. At the end of the observed encounter, the anesthesia providers are asked to fill out a brief form detailing their demographic history, details regarding the providers’ length and type of clinical education and training, undergraduate education, previous communication training, number of years of practice, primary language, gender, and age will be obtained. Results: Anesthesia providers included in the study were physician anesthesiologists, residents, and nurse anesthetists. The average Kalamazoo score was 28.7 amongst all providers. There was no significant effect of provider level on the score at the p Conclusions: The data revealed anesthesia providers provide patient-centered encounters with a mean score of 28.7, which is higher than the average for providers from multiple different specialties observed in Joyce, et al. study (mean score of 25.25). The subcategories “Understanding patient’s perspective” and “reaches agreement” scored 3.86, and 3.83, respectively. This may indicate that anesthesia providers can improve on allowing the patient to communicate their understanding of anesthesia, as well as collecting information from the patient that can affect their anesthesia (i.e., severe nausea following previous anesthesia).展开更多

A display screen user requires an ability to provide proper information while considering a variety of information in a short period. While operating the display screen, the user is heavily pressed for time as the missions are allocated through many different steps of orders. In addition, since a failure would cause fatal damage or cause further defeat, this increases the pressure of time. The right environment for operating a display screen is most useful when the user is in the most vulnerable time period or long-term continuous operation of the display screen. In that kind of sterile environment, the operating display screen is there to help the user’s decisions for the matter at hand, in this it should follow the user centered design and improve the user’s handiness and use. Furthermore, the information should be provided in accordance with the user's informational and perceptional process, and the capacity of the information process should be improved with the movement through each process and step. This thesis paper can be used as a reference material when designing the display screen in order to apply a user’s experiences.展开更多

This thesis paper can be used as a reference material when designing the display screen in order to apply a user’s experiences.
文摘This paper first focuses on a brief evaluation of the teacher-centered and the learner-centered methodologies and the relevant result and the necessity for changing. Secondly ,it represents the practical ways of teaching based on the learner-centered approach in classrooms to show how students' initiative is given .Thirdly , it presents the guidance for fellow teachers and students in group activities .The author of the paper believes that getting students started is the initial step towards active learning and fruitful teaching. It is proposed that efforts made to get students involved should focus not only on forms of activities but also on their contents , skill integration and establishing cooperative relationships between teachers and students or among students.
