China is in the process of rapid urbanization,and wise land use is critical to the long-term sustainability of Chinese cities.Promotion of a compact city is typically believed to be helpful for sustainable land use ma...China is in the process of rapid urbanization,and wise land use is critical to the long-term sustainability of Chinese cities.Promotion of a compact city is typically believed to be helpful for sustainable land use management.However,given the fact that Chinese cities are characterized by high population densities,the applicability of a more compact solution to expand cities in China remains questionable;there is little evidence to support the many claims in its favor.In seeking to provide empirical data to explore the application of compact city theory in China,one of the key problems researchers face is the task of measuring the urban compactness,in order to objectively investigate the current characteristics of urban compactness.To meet this need,indices were developed for measuring the urban land use compactness,by which the spatial distribution characteristics of urban land use compactness were identified and applied to the Chaoyang District of Beijing.The conclusions can be made as follows:(1) comprehensive land use compactness in Chaoyang District has increased during the period of 2001-2007,especially the population density;(2) the spatial distribution of land use compactness has the characteristics of a ring structure,which shows a decreasing trend with its distance to the city center;(3) there is a strong positive correlation between urban land use compactness and location.The better the location is,the higher the land use compactness is.展开更多

Atom interference fringes are observed in the stationary frame and the rotating frame, respectively. The phase shift and contrast of the interference fringe are experimentally investigated. The results show that the contrast of the interference fringe is well held when the platform is rotated, and the phase shift of the interference fringe is linearly proportional to the rotation rate of the platform. The long-term stability, which is evaluated by the overlapped Allan deviation, is 8.5 × 10^-6 rad/s over the integrating time of 1000s.展开更多
The dual-port compact multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)dipole antennas with close spacing d of 0.5λand 0.3λare designed,and some electromagnetic band gap(EBG)structures are inserted between them to reduce mutual ...The dual-port compact multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)dipole antennas with close spacing d of 0.5λand 0.3λare designed,and some electromagnetic band gap(EBG)structures are inserted between them to reduce mutual coupling.Those MIMO antennas with d=0.5λand 0.3λ,and with different mutual couplings are fabricated and measured,the channel capacity and correlation coefficient(CC)are analyzed and compared in a rich multipath reverberation chamber(RC),an office and a conference room.Results show that if d is reduced from 0.5λto 0.3λ,in the RCs,channel capacities of all the antennas are very close to that of the i.i.d.Rayleigh channel,although the average CCs are increased from 0.168 in the nonlossy RC to 0.269 in the lossy RC.In the office and conference rooms,compared with the RC,the average capacities of those antennas get a slight reduction,however,in most cases,the capacity of d=0.5λis larger than that of d=0.3λ,and the antennas with EBG have a larger capacity compared with the antennas without EBG,with a corresponding reduction of CC.A non-line-of-sight(NLOS)scenario of through-the-wall is also investigated.展开更多

Purpose-The most commonly used approaches for cluster validation are based on indices but the majority of the existing cluster validity indices do not work well on data sets of different complexities.The purpose of th...Purpose-The most commonly used approaches for cluster validation are based on indices but the majority of the existing cluster validity indices do not work well on data sets of different complexities.The purpose of this paper is to propose a new cluster validity index(ARSD index)that works well on all types of data sets.Design/methodology/approach-The authors introduce a new compactness measure that depicts the typical behaviour of a cluster where more points are located around the centre and lesser points towards the outer edge of the cluster.A novel penalty function is proposed for determining the distinctness measure of clusters.Random linear search-algorithm is employed to evaluate and compare the performance of the five commonly known validity indices and the proposed validity index.The values of the six indices are computed for all nc ranging from(nc_(min),nc_(max))to obtain the optimal number of clusters present in a data set.The data sets used in the experiments include shaped,Gaussian-like and real data sets.Findings-Through extensive experimental study,it is observed that the proposed validity index is found to be more consistent and reliable in indicating the correct number of clusters compared to other validity indices.This is experimentally demonstrated on 11 data sets where the proposed index has achieved better results.Originality/value-The originality of the research paper includes proposing a novel cluster validity index which is used to determine the optimal number of clusters present in data sets of different complexities.展开更多
With the continuous improvement of agricultural mechanization,soil compaction becomes more and more serious.Serious soil compaction has been considered as an important negative factor affecting crop growth and yield.T...With the continuous improvement of agricultural mechanization,soil compaction becomes more and more serious.Serious soil compaction has been considered as an important negative factor affecting crop growth and yield.The measurement of soil compactness is a common method to measure the soil compaction level.In order to solve the problems of discontinuous sampling,time-consuming and poor real-time soil compactness measurement,a real-time measurement method of soil compactness based on fertilizing shovel was proposed,and the mathematical model between fertilizing shovel arm deformation and soil compactness was established.Based on the interaction mechanism between fertilizing shovel and soil,through the force analysis of fertilizing shovel,it was found that the deformation of fertilizing shovel arm was positively correlated with the sum of soil compactness(SSC)within the range of tillage depth.In order to verify the theoretical analysis results and the detection accuracy of strain gauge,the static bench test was carried out.The test results showed that the strain gauge signal for measuring the deformation of the fertilizing shovel arm was significantly correlated with the applied force.The fitting curve of the linear correlation coefficient was 0.999,the maximum detection error was 0.68 kg,and the detecting accuracy was within the tolerance of 0.57%.Through field orthogonal experiments with four working depths and four compaction levels,a mathematical model of the strain gauge signal and the SSC within the range of tillage depth was established.The experiment showed that compared with the other three depths,the linear correlation coefficient at the tillage depth of 5 cm(TD5)was the lowest,and the slope of the fitting curve was obviously different from the other three depths,so the 5 cm data were excluded when modeling.The model between mean signal value and mean SSC within the range of tillage depth was established based on the data of sampling points with tillage depths of 7.5 cm(TD7.5),10 cm(TD10),and 12.5 cm(TD12.5).The linear correlation coefficient(R^(2))of the model between mean signal value and mean SSC which eliminated 5 cm data was 0.980 and the root mean square error(RMSE)was 143.57 kPa.Compared with the linear model before averaging,the R^(2) was improved by 8.65%,and the RMSE was reduced by 52.39%.This system can realize the real-time and continuous measurement of soil compactness and provide data support for follow-up intelligent agricultural operations.展开更多

With optimization in construction technology and materials used for RCC Dams, cost is no longer a maj...Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) has gained favorable recognition in hydropower and water resource dam construction. With optimization in construction technology and materials used for RCC Dams, cost is no longer a major disadvantage as compared to environmental impact, that is, wildlife habitat disruption. In as much as it has become optimal for investment in hydropower dam construction, the scourge for dam failure is still eminent, which is as a result of excessive seepage compromising the integrity of the mechanical properties of the dam. The aim of the paper is to highlight successful application methods in joint bonding to avoid excessive seepage and reduce the autogenous healing to a few years of operation. In view of optimization, this paper presents a comprehensive study on the influences of interlayer joints bonding quality from RCC mix performances and how it consolidates the RCC layers to withstand the shear strength along the interface, especially on the high dams. The case study is the RCC dam at the 750 MW Kafue Gorge Lower Hydropower Station. The scope of the study reviews the joint type judged by Modified Maturity Factor (MMF) with joint surface long time exposed in regions with dry and high temperature, technical measures of layer bonding quality control under condition of long time joint surface exposure, effects of joints shear strength and impermeability of the RCC layers when under the conditions of plastic and elasticity. The subtle observations made during the dam construction phases were with respect to the optimal use of materials in relation to RCC mix designs and the basis for equipment calibration for monitoring important data that can be referenced during analysis of shear forces acting on the RCC dam over time.展开更多

We also introduce the concept of semi-closed operator at the origin and obtain a series of new fixed point theorems for such class of operators. As consequences, we get new fixed point existence for (ws)-compact (in particular nonexpansive) self mappings unbounded closed convex subset of Banach spaces. The main condition in our results is formulated in terms of axiomatic measures of weak noncompactness. Later on, we give an application to generalized Hammerstein type integral equations.展开更多
