The glass fiber contentis 0, 10 and 15 vol. pct. The matrix materials and corresponding composites were compoundedusing a twin screw extruder and dumbbell-shaped tensile bars were prepared with an injectionmolding process. The tensile and flexural properties as well as the unnotched and notchedCharpy impact energies of short glass fibre/calcite/ABS composites were studied in this paper. The effects of fibres, fibre surface treatments and particles on these mechanical properties ofthe composites were discussed in detail. An importarit information was obtained, which is thatthe tensile and flexural strengths of hybrid SGF/calcite/ABS composites are the same as thoseof corresponding fibre composites when the ratio of the interfacial adhesion strength betweenparticles and matrix to that between fibres and matrix is higher than certain value. otherwise theformer are lower than the latter.展开更多

The shear angle and forming defects of the fabrics were measured on the hemisphere, under different blank holder forces(BHFs). The results showed that increasing BHF could enhance the shear angle slightly, reduce the asymmetry for the deformation of the fabrics, and change the main type of the process-induced defects. Besides, compression tests were performed on the corresponding composite components. By analyzing the change of fiber volume fraction and structural parameters of the textile reinforcements, the effects of draping behavior of NCFs on the mechanical performance of the composites were studied. The results reveal that draping process has distinguishable impacts on the mechanical properties of the final components, which is closely related to the stitching pattern of the NCFs.展开更多

The model con- sidered a frictional interaction between the mold oscillator and slab as several connected nodes. The governing equation considered the slab as a multi-degree-of-freedom (DoF) system, and included a hysteresis model to describe elastic-plastic behavior of the slab; the mold oscillator was given two DoF by utilizing pressure and displacement experiment data. Simulations indicate that the mold and slab execute various vibrations, and that mold oscillation marks are caused by a stick-and-slip phenomenon during intervals, in which the slab contacting the mold moves downward compared to the other slab (negative strip time). The slab shows the formation of mold oscillation marks to previous formation criterion equally when the mold velocity is faster than the casting speed about downward. The oscillation mark will grow up over 2 Hz exciting frequency with constant 4 mm stroke in simulations. Finally, the negative strip time was compared to the frictional force, hysteresis variable, and plastic force to investigate formation mechanism of the oscillation marks.展开更多

Poly(lactic acid) was extruded with hemp hurd and glycidyl methacrylate as the polymer/hurd interfacial compatibilizer, and injection molded. Interfacial compatibility between poly(lactic acid) and hemp hurd increased with grafted glycidyl methacrylate in comparison to the non-compatibilized control, as corroborated by scanning electron microscopy fractog- raphy and mechanical analysis, which showed increases in the glycidyl methacrylate-grafted 20% (w/w) hemp hurd/poly(lactic acid) biocomposite, retaining 94% of the neat polymer strength, with increases in crystallinity, and showing a range of thermo-mechanical properties desirable for rigid biocomposite aoolications.展开更多

And comparison analysis of the microstructure and mechanical property between the MIM 418 and as-cast 418 alloys was performed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),and X-ray diffraction(XRD). The results show that MIM418 alloy exhibits fine grain(~30 μm) and uniform microstructure. The defects existing in MIM 418 alloy formed during sintering process can be eliminated through HIP treatment, and the relative density increases from97.0 % to 99.5 %. The mechanical property can be improved significantly because of the elimination of defects, and the tensile strength and elongation are1,271 MPa and 16.8 %, respectively, which are increased by 34.5 % and 180 % compared with K418 alloy after solution heat treatment.展开更多
