The established multi-spectrum response models effectively identify the different dynamical factors and their contributions to the low-frequency sea level fluctuations inside the bay. The results show that the Ekman transport due to longshore winds is the major mechanism to induce the sea level fluctuations, more important than the frictional effect of local winds. There also exists obviously the influental effect of the free fluctuations of the continental shelf. In addition ,a simple estimation suggests that the remarkable sea level fluctuation of 0. 4 d-1 in the bay is related to the resonance of the Huanghai Sea and the Bohai Sea (taken as a single bay). 展开更多

In this paper, the relationship among land productivity, population pressure and the fluctuation mechanism of ecotone is analyzed, taking counties and banners of southeast Inner Mongolia plateau as an example, which is the most fragile part in the farming and husbandry interleaving belt of north China due to its severe desertification degree and low level of economic development. The C v for the total output value of agriculture decreases from southeast to northwest, with the same rule as which the overloading population cumulated distributes, and both indicators have close relation with the high linear coefficient of 0 83. These reveal the fluctuation mechanism for ecotone: fluctuation of the level of economic development is a scientific and practical measure both to weakness degree and to instability of ecotone, because it is a synthesized response to the variation of climate as well as irrational land uses, which reinforce and magnify the fluctuation. In detail, the heavier the population overloading, the severer the grassland reclamation, the stronger the dependence of regional productivity on rainfall, the lower the level of economic development, the rougher the fluctuation of ecotone, but the weaker the PRED system. 展开更多

A compliant bio-membrane with a nominally fiat reference configuration is prone to random transverse deflections when placed in water, due primarily to the Brownian motion of the water molecules. On the average, these fluctuations result in a state of thermodynamic equilibrium between the entropic energy of the water and the total free en- ergy of the membrane. When the membrane is in close proximity to a parallel surface, that surface restricts the fluctuations of the membrane which, in turn, results in an increase in its free energy. The amount of that increase depends on the degree of confinement, and the resulting gradient in free energy with degree of confinement implies the existence of a confining pressure. In the present study, we assume that the confinement is in the form of a continuous parabolic po- tential well resisting fluctuation. Analysis leads to a closed form expression for the mean pressure resulting from this confinement, and the results are discussed within the broader context of results in this area. In particular, the results provide insights into the roles of membrane stiffness, number of degrees of freedom in the model of the membrane and other system parameters. 展开更多

Scientists pay great attention to different-time-scale signals in the lengllh of day (LOD) variations △LOD, which provide signatures of the Earth's interior structure, couplings among different layers, and potential excitations of ocean and atmosphere. In this study, based on the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD), we analyzed the latest time series of △LOD data spanning from January 1962 to March 2015. We observed the signals with periods and amplitudes of about 0.5 month and 0.19 ms, 1.0 month and 0.19 ms, 0.5 yr and 0.22 ms, 1.0 yr and 0.18 ms, 2.28 yr and 0.03 ms, 5.48 yr and 0.05 ms, respectively, in coincidence with the results of predecessors. In addition, some signals that were previously not definitely observed by predecessors were detected in this study, with periods and amplitudes of 9.13 d and 0.12 ms, 13.69 yr and 0.10 ms, respectively. The mechanisms of the LOD fluctuations of these two signals are still open. 展开更多

These relationships are consistent with former works, and have good agreement with experimental data. The paper also dis- cusses the concept of 'apparent pressure' on the wall in mean flow. 展开更多
