Medical errors are one of the major challenges that health systems in all countries are grappling with to minimize and reduce the damage caused by them. The aim of this study was to assess the Patient Safety Attitudes, Skills, Knowledge and Barriers Related to Reporting Medical Errors by Nursing Students in Ilam, Iran. Methods: A cross-sectional mixed method was conducted to this study. Sampling was conducted by census of all students entering nursing criteria in Ilam in 2016. A number of 140 students participated in this study. The tool used in this study was created by Schnall et al. that measures knowledge, attitudes and skills related to medical errors reporting. Data were analyzed with t test, regression and correlation coefficients and descriptive statistical methods. Results: The results showed that nursing students had a positive attitude with respect to the reporting of medical errors (p = 0.01). They also have the low knowledge to medical errors and reporting them. There were significant differences in all groups and subgroups of knowledge, attitude, and skills (except creating of safety culture subgroup) between the two group’s students. Moreover, the main reason for not reporting was the lack of knowledge and fear of punishment. Conclusions: The results of this study help those who involve in the health care system to improve patient safety and improve the process of reporting medical errors by nursing students’ participation in the process of reporting error, while improving knowledge and attitudes through nursing education with the effective educational models. As a result, there is a need to educate students on reporting systems.展开更多

IBS is a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort and disordered defecation associated with a stressful lifestyle. However, the cause of IBS has not been clarified yet. Based on a similar, previous study in Japan, this study investigated the prevalence of IBS and the relationship between IBS and stress, lifestyle and dietary habits among nursing and medical school students in China. Methods: Designed to investigate IBS symptoms, life- style, dietary intake, life events, anxiety and depresssion, a blank self-administrated questionnaire was used to survey 2500 nursing or medical students in China. Questionnaires were collected from 2141 stu- dents (85.6%) and responses obtained from 1934 students (90.3%) were analyzed. Results: On the whole, the prevalence of IBS was 32.1% in this study, 26.6% in males and 33.6% in females. In females, the IBS group showed a bedtime later than that in the non-IBS group, and the length of time asleep in the IBS group was shorter than that in the non-IBS group (p p = 0.005). In females, the IBS group showed a frequency for the intake of vegetables and potatoes that was lower than that of the non-IBS group (p = 0.007, p = 0.023). The prevalence of IBS among nursing and medical school students in China (32.1%) was significantly lower than that in Japan (35.5%). Especially, the number of females in the constipation dominant IBS subgroup in China (11.8%) was less than that found in Japan (20.4%). Conclusions: The prevalence of IBS was high among nursing and medical students in China, but lower than that shown in Japan.展开更多

With the improvement of people’s medical awareness, people cannot meet the simple surgical treatment, and there is a great demand for nursing treatment. At the same time, the demand for efficiency and convenience of medical nursing practice teaching continues to improve, and the multi-functional medical nursing training innovation platform has been paid more and more attention. The rapid development of material technology as well as digitalization has brought about a huge change, and we have created a multifunctional, spatially efficient and easy-to-transfer information platform for medical care training. A base box, placement drawer, platform board and display are used as the base module and the base module is filled with specific functional components. Lifting and lowering using motors and spiral base, moving using universal wheels. These devices together constitute the training platform. A survey of students and teachers was conducted through a questionnaire, and they all gave very good feedback that the multi-functional platform was very practical and useful. This platform effectively solves the drawbacks of the original training platform which is time-consuming, laborious and inconvenient, and is worthy of further promotion and research.展开更多

They all answered questionnaires about the risk dimensions and acceptance for medical practices. Results: An exploratory factor analysis on participants' answers to various dimensions of risk yielded a two-factor structure for risk perception in both samples: for nurses, the factors were"Unknown"and"Dread,"while for students, they were"Dread"and"Lack of Independence."For both nurses and stu-dents, the factor scores of Dread negatively related to individual risk acceptance of medical practices. Furthermore, nurses tended to be more accepting of practices that they knew well (i.e., low Unknown scale scores). For students, the subscale scores of the Lack of Independence factor negatively related to individual risk acceptance only for health examination practices. Nurses conceived risks more correctly and concretely compared to students. This was especially pronounced for practices related to medication use. Conclusions: Although both nurses and students conceived various risk contents from medical practices, their conceptions still differed. Knowledge of these differences in the structure of risk perception and conceived risk contents of various medical practices between nurses and students could be utilized to improve risk communication in clinical practice.展开更多

文摘During the COVID-19 pandemic, medical and nursing students are faced with various challenges such as the need to attend online classes and juggling clinical postings under the new norm. This study aimed to assess the asso-ciation between depression, anxiety, and behavioural changes among medical and nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. An online self-administered questionnaire was distributed between March 2021 and July 2021 to 292 undergraduates medical and nursing students in a higher education institute on the East Coast of Malaysia. The questionnaires consisted of four parts:sociodemographic data, the Generalised Anxiety Disor-der-7,the Patient Health Questionnaire-9,and questions related to behaviours during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study found that 23.6%and 33.6%of the students experienced anxiety and depression respectively, possibly caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.Anxiety was associated with a high level of behavioural changes during the pandemic with a total of 87%of the students showing behavioural changes.Therapeutic interventions such as online counselling and consultation should be implemented by the university to reduce the prevalence of depres-sion and anxiety resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic among medical and nursing students.
文摘Background: Previous studies have shown that the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is 10% - 15% in the general population. Conclusions: The prevalence of IBS was high among nursing and medical students in China, but lower than that shown in Japan.
文摘Objective:This study aimed to assess smartphone dependency and its impact on academics among medical and nursing students.Materials and Methods:A cross-sectional study was carried out on Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS)and Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BScN)students in a medical teaching institute. The Smartphone Dependency Scale and self-structured questionnaire on impact of smartphone on academics were used to assess smartphone dependency and its impact on academics.A total of 436 students were selected using the total enumerative sampling technique.Data were analyzed using the descriptive(frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation)and inferential(t-test,Chi-square test)statistics. Results:The mean age of students was 20.6±1.29 years,81%were females, and the mean body mass index score was 21.59±3.41 kg/m2.The mean impact on academics and smartphone dependency scores was 19.92±7.01 and 48.58±11.46,respectively.The impact on academics had a significant association with student category(P<0.001)and gender(P<0.001).A significant association was found between the impact on academics(P=0.003)and smartphone dependency(P=0.05)with studying class. Conclusion:The use of smartphones is more among medical students.Students studying in the first and second years are found to be more dependent on smartphone, which caused a serious impact on their academics.Smart appliances have become mandatory in this era of technology, and it is not possible to stop its usage but negative impact of smartphones on students’academic performance needs to be addressed. Therefore,it is mandatory to organize educational seminars and workshops to promote the appropriate use of smartphones.

The number of years of experience in Oncology ranged from less than one year to 13 years. The choice of the Oncology department was involuntary for 100% of the staff;of these, 62% had intentions of changing departments. Twenty-five percent had applied for a change of department, which was unsuccessful. Stress was expressed by 94% of the staff;93% thought that there was a solution to the stress experienced on a daily basis in the Oncology department. The main solutions proposed to manage this stress were: support for the staff, provision of work materials, and staff training. Conclusion: The nursing staff of the Medical Oncology Department of the Yaoundé General Hospital experiences a high level of stress and are in need of solutions.
文摘With the development of medical level, specialized, refined and multidisciplinary collaborative therapy is the requirement and main development direction of neurosurgery. This platform effectively solves the drawbacks of the original training platform which is time-consuming, laborious and inconvenient, and is worthy of further promotion and research.

文摘Objectives: To determine the risk perceptions of a series of medical practices in non-expert (un-dergraduates) and expert (nurses) samples. Methods: Four hundred and forty-seven nurses and 246 undergraduate students participated in this study. Knowledge of these differences in the structure of risk perception and conceived risk contents of various medical practices between nurses and students could be utilized to improve risk communication in clinical practice.
文摘BACKGROUND Some patients with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease experience major adverse cardiac events(MACE)and require readmission after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting(CABG)surgery. This is often attributed to patients'unhealthy lifestyles and dietary habits, inadequate understanding of the disease, and poor disease management compliance. Thus, searching for more targeted nursing intervention models that can enhance patients'self-management abilities and reduce the risk of readmission after CABG surgery is significant.AIM To observe the impact of specialized nursing outpatient case management on patients after CABG surgery.METHODS A total of 103 patients who underwent CABG surgery in our hospital between April 2021 and April 2022 comprised the study sample. The patients were divided into two groups using an odd-even number grouping method. The control group received routine nursing care, while the case management group received specialized nursing outpatient case management. The differences in psychological status, adherence to medical treatment,self-care ability, knowledge mastery, quality of life scores, and the occurrence rate of MACE were compared between the two groups.RESULTS After the intervention, the case management group had lower scores on the selfrating depression scale and self-rating anxiety scale and lower MACE rate,as well as higher scores for adherence to a healthy diet, medication adherence, good lifestyle habits, regular exercise, and timely follow-up,higher scores on the Coronary Heart Disease Self-Management Scale, higher scores for managing adverse habits, symptoms, emotional cognition, emergency response, disease knowledge, general lifestyle, and treatment adherence, higher scores for understanding coronary heart disease, recognizing the importance of medication adherence, understanding selfcare points after CABG surgery, and being aware of post-CABG precautions, higher scores for physical well-being,disease condition, general health,social-psychological well-being,and work-related aspects(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Specialized nursing outpatient case management can enhance patient adherence to medical treatment, knowledge mastery, psychological well-being,and overall quality of life in patients after CABG surgery.
