There is significant psychological stress, depression, anxiety and loss of self esteem particularly for female patients. Similar types of space radiation are known to damage the health of astronauts. Current treatments for scarring, tissue loss, hair loss and neuropathic pain are a high priority but inadequate. Regenerative medicine is a new and comprehensive approach to potentially treat complex medical conditions from radiation damage. Regenerative medicine combines a systematic evidence based approach with the use of herbal medicine, stem cells, peptides and 3D tissue engineering. These fields use sophisticated technology to identify the respective molecular mechanisms of upregulation and protection of healthy cells and down regulation of cancer cells. The regenerative medicine strategies of stem cells and plant polyphenols suggest there is significant potential for rapid clinical translation to alleviate the side effects associated with radiotherapy.展开更多

An integrative and multi-targeted strategy is increasingly appreciated to effectively combat this devastating disease. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has been widely used for treatment of dementia, and thus the advantages of the potential therapeutic features of TCM treatment and associated mechanisms should be well taken. The Amnesia Remedy Formula(ARF) was invented by one of the most influential Master of TCM SUN Si-miao, who lived for about 100 year old. The aim of this research is to characterize the time course changes of the cognitive behaviors post a ARF, and the mechanism underlying the effects, focusing on PKA-centered signaling for both enhancement of neural plasticity and clearance of the phosphorylated Tau. RESULTS We tested the efficacy of ARF on two animal models of AD, and examine the central role of PKA signaling in the enhancement of neural plasticity via PKA/CREB/BDNF pathway as well as clearance of toxic p Tau via PKA/GSK3β/p Tau pathway. In the scopolamine model, ARF effectively reversed the memory in Morris water maze(MWM) test, with some features superior to anti-AD drug donepezil. In a battery test of MWM, novel object recognition or T maze in 5-month-old senescenceaccelerated mouse prone 8(SAMP8) strain mice, two weeks of administration of ARF showed overall better improvement in memory loss than donepezil, and the effect lasted for at least 1 week after termination of administration of the formula. ARF increased expression of PKA/CREB/BDNF and synaptic proteins PSD95 expression, as well as enhanced Ser9 phosphorylation of GSK3β, thus reduced p Tau in the hippocampus. Blockade of PKA signaling blunted the anti-AD-like effect of ARF, with reversal of CREB/BDNF signaling. Transcriptomic analysis indicated some changes of novel molecules along this pathway may be part of the pathological and therapeutic mechanism, which warrants further investigation. CONCLUSION ARF may display some advantageous features in treating AD with early onset, via multi-targeted manner including enhancement of neural plasticity and reduction in Tau toxicity.展开更多

文摘Objective:This study assessed whether Chinese herbal medicine(CHM)combined with probiotics/synbiotics for irritable bowel syndrome-diarrhea(IBS-D)was more effective and safer than probiotics/synbiotics alone. Methods:Ten databases were searched for randomized control trials(RCTs)of IBS-D as diagnosed by Manning or Rome criteria.Trials comparing probiotics and probiotics with CHM were included. The Cochrane risk of bias(ROB)was evaluated for each trial.RevMan 5.3 was used to conduct a meta-analysis.Results:Twenty-six RCTs were included(25 Chinese,1 English),involving 2045 participants.Metaanalysis was conducted on two outcomes:overall symptom improvement and relapse.CHM combined with live Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus preparations reduced relapse rate(RR 0.28,95%CI 0.15e0.52,3 trials,n?205)compared with probiotics alone. The subgroup analysis showed the benefit of CHM prescriptions based on soothing liver and invigorating spleen(1.28,1.14e1.44,3,244),invigorating spleen and resolving dampness(1.20,1.03e1.41,2,128),or warming and invigorating spleen and kidney formulae(1.27,1.09e1.46,2,210)combined with triple Bifidobacterium preparations than the same probiotics alone which improved overall symptoms for IBS-D.There was unclear bias in almost domains of ROB.Most studies had a high risk of bias due to lack of blinding of investigator and participants, and selective reporting. Conclusions:This study showed that CHM combined with probiotics may reduce relapse rate by 72%,and improve overall symptoms of IBS-D(as diagnosed by Rome II and III)compared to probiotics alone. From the limited subgroup analysis, only soothing liver and invigorating spleen formulae, represented by Tongxie Yaofang, added to triple Bifidobacterium preparations may be superior to the single preparations in terms of overall symptoms. However, due to the poor methodological quality and small sample size of the trials, these findings must be interpreted with caution.

文摘Primary erythema limb pain is a very rare disease, and its pathogenesis is not clear.Usually, the pain symptoms of patients exist for a long time, which seriously affect the daily life of patients and increase the economic burden of patients.Professor Liu Guobin, who has been engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular diseases for nearly 30 years, believes that heat-toxin and blood stasis collaterals are closely related to the disease, and emphasizes the principle of heat-toxin and evil qi causing the disease. It is emphasized that clearing heat and detoxification, promoting blood circulation and dispersing blood stasis are the main treatment principles. This paper selects a typical case to describe Professor Liu's clinical experience in the treatment of primary erythema limb pain by oral and external use of traditional Chinese medicine,so as to provide an effective method of traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of primary erythema limb pain.

文摘German doctor Gottlieb Olpp played an important role in Sino-German medical exchanges during the late Qing dynasty.During his stay in China for more than 9 years,he wrote a large number of texts related to local Chinese medical and hygienic conditions. In these works,he introduced traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and its situation at that time but also translated TCM literature. His translations and his achievements facilitated the development of sinology in Germany. Not only was he responsible for the development of the method used by German sinologists in translating TCM literature, but also his work gave an impetus to the combination of academic goals and current considerations in sinology studies. In this way,the study of TCM is the internal force driving the development of sinology.
