The fast-growing poplar was modified by a vacuum-pressure impregnation method with three types of modification solutions composed of phe- nol-melamine-formaldehyde (PMF) co-condensed resin, diatomite, and 3-aminopropyl (diethoxy) methylsilane. We measured the weight percent gain (WPG), bulking, leaching, anti-swelling efficiency (ASE), wa- ter-repellent effectiveness (WRE), and oxygen index of the modified specimens. All of the wood physical properties, which are beneficial for human uses, were significantly improved by the treatment. We improved various characteristics of wood and the oxygen index of poplar above 48.6% after the modification using diatomite and PMF co-condensed resin.展开更多
Caged bicyclic phosphate (CBP) and its dimelamine salt (PDS) were synthesized and added to epoxy resins to obtain the flame retarded epoxy resin composites. The flammability of the composites was characterized by ...Caged bicyclic phosphate (CBP) and its dimelamine salt (PDS) were synthesized and added to epoxy resins to obtain the flame retarded epoxy resin composites. The flammability of the composites was characterized by the limiting oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimeter tests. The LOI values of flame retarded composites increase consistently with the increase of flame retardant amounts, and they are almost the same when the loading of CBP is the same as that of PDS, although the phosphorus content of PDS is much lower than that of CBP. The total heat release increases in the order of CBP30/ER 〈 PDS30/ER 〈 PDS15/ER 〈 CBPI5/ER, whereas that of specific extinction area is CBP15/ER 〉 CBP30/ER 〉 PDS30/ER ≌ PDS15/ER. PDS exhibits more effective inhibition of oxidation of combustible gases. In the tests of thermogravimetric analyses (TG) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), it is found that the degradation of the composites is influenced greatly by the addition of flame retardants. By scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a thick and tight char-layer is observed for PDS30/ER, resulting from the interaction of nitrogen species with phosphorus species. Therefore, the combination of CBP with melamine in the flame retarded system can improve the flame retardancy greatly.展开更多

Triethanolamine and dimethy...In this work, melamine-formaldehyde resin was cationized by adding modifiers so that the fibers closely bonded to improve their usability and the wet strength of paper was greatly improved. Triethanolamine and dimethylamine were added to modify the melamine-formaldehyde resin,respectively.The mechanism of the cationized resin was explored and the possible chemical reactions were deduced. It was concluded that,with the use of triethanolamine,the most optimum product was obtained by hydroxymethylation for 30 min with a temperature of 85℃ and p H of 9. 0 where n( melamine) ∶ n( formaldehyde) ∶ n( methanol) ∶ n( triethanolamine) was 100 ∶ 330 ∶ 450 ∶ 15. With the combined use of dimethylamine and methanol,the optimal product was acquired by condensation for 30 min at a temperature of 50℃ and p H of 2. 0 at melamine, formaldehyde, methanol, and dimethylamine molar ratio of100∶ 330∶ 350∶ 20. In this article, MF resin foam was prepared by microwave radiation. We discussed the thermal stability of MF foam and the effect of different emulsifiers on its morphology, apparent density, fire-retardancy and mechanical property. The decomposition temperature of MF foam we prepared is nearly 400℃ and the constitution of residue after combustion is made up of carbon and graphite. Emulsifier influenced the apparent density of MF foam and using coemulsifiers can get flexible foam with uniform cell size, good morphology and low apparent density. When the fire-retardant MF foam’s apparent density is low of 5.53 kg/cm-3, its value of LOI can reach 32.4. The mechanical property of foam is consistent with apparent density.展开更多

A homogenous dispersion of the filler in the matrix and the forming of a connecting network based on graphite sheets were proved by SEM images.
