The aim of this article is to highlight any ...Purpose: Cotard’s syndrome, Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, and Catatonia are all rare psychiatric disorders that have relatively little research regarding their treatments. The aim of this article is to highlight any gaps in knowledge regarding represented demographics in these treatment studies, and to discuss the current and upcoming treatment options. Background: This literature review explores under-researched psychiatric conditions: Cotard’s syndrome, Alice in Wonderland syndrome, and Catatonic Schizophrenia. Understanding psychiatric disorders requires basic knowledge of brain anatomy. These conditions are often result of or associated with neurological issues, such as migraines or tumors. The brain has eight lobes, two of four kinds: frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal lobes, which all govern different functions and abilities. Frontal lobes control judgment, decision-making, personality traits, and fine motor movements. Parietal lobes interpret pain and temperature, occipital lobes handle visual stimuli, and temporal lobes enable hearing. The pre-frontal cortex is associated with high intelligence, psychotic traits, and psychosis. The Broca’s Area in the frontal lobes controls expressive language. These areas and divisions of the brain contribute to the complexity of the psychiatric disorders discussed in this review. The most common symptoms include micropsia and macropsia. Catatonia/Catatonic Schizophrenia is an uncommon type of schizophrenia. This type of schizophrenia is characterized by motor rigidity, verbal rigidity, the flat effect, psychomotor retardation, waxy flexibility, and overall negative symptoms. Thus, these people may come off as emotionally detached, and able to stay frozen in odd positions for periods on end. Treatments and Results: Cotard’s syndrome seemed to be most effectively treated by ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). Alice in Wonderland Syndrome (AIWS) had the highest positive responses to treatment by Valproate (an anti-epileptic drug), as well as intervention to treat the associated neurological conditions they had. Catatonia/Catatonic Schizophrenia seemed to be most effectively treated with a combination of benzodiazepines and ECT. Discussion and Demographics: In all 3 disorders, the Latino and African communities were underrepresented. There also seemed to be an underrepresentation of men in Cotard’s syndrome, and of women in Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. In Thailand, this advancement is made possible by cooperation, research and spons...Men＇s health awareness, including the research and study of quality of life, sexual desires and risk factors, has increased worldwide. In Thailand, this advancement is made possible by cooperation, research and sponsorship from the local Thai community. This article aims to illustrate the sexual attitudes of Thai people, to determine the degree of erectile dysfunction （ED） and to investigate how to manage and cope with ED in a Thai community. We reviewed the relevant literature from Thai-based articles and surveys in regard to men＇s health, sexual attitudes, the prevalence of ED and common risk factors in the Thai community. The primary risk factor for ED in Thai men was age-related health decline and the presence of vascular disease. Most Thai men will seek consultation from their partner in regard to ED. The main presentation of metabolic disease in Thai patients was dyslipidemia. New selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are not available for premature ejaculation in Thai communities. The debate in regard to malpractice compensation is an issue that should be closely monitored. There is currently a shortage of home care for the elderly in Thailand. The insights provided by the articles helped recruit the study patients and in turn, helped us gain knowledge that can be translated into improved men＇s health care in Thailand.展开更多

Methods: The participants were a group of 134 men, ≥65 years old, who required support and were living in ...Aim: We developed a scale to measure the social activities of community-dwelling older men requiring support. Methods: The participants were a group of 134 men, ≥65 years old, who required support and were living in Hokkaido, Japan. An anonymous questionnaire was administered through individual interviews. Valid responses were obtained from 121/134 interviewees. The construct validity of the resulting scale was assessed by exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Criterion-related validity was tested with Spearman’s rank correlation test based on the Social Activities Index for Elderly People (SAI-E). Reliability was assessed by Cronbach’s alpha. Results: A Social Activities Scale for Community-dwelling Older Men Requiring Support (SASOMS) scale was created, comprised of the following three subscales: daily interactions with familiar people;intimate relationships with family members;and interactions with others through activity programs (e.g., exercise, games, recreation, etc.). The created SASOMS scale correlated with the SAI-E (r = 0.557), and its criterion-related validity was confirmed. The alpha coefficient of the new scale was 0.791, and its internal consistency was confirmed. Conclusions: The reliability and validity of the developed SASOMS scale was confirmed, demonstrating that it can be used to assess social activities specifically in older men requiring support. Our results suggest that the scale can be used effectively by care providers who support older men requiring care. The usability of the SASOMS should continue to be improved, and it is necessary to verify its validity in longitudinal studies.展开更多

The findings indicatethat the Chinese translator,Wu Guozhen, takes a more target - reader oriented style by payingnlore attention to the vocabulary richness and structural variety. In contrast, the Americantranslator, Bloom,is more source - text centered by following the vocabulary choice and wordorder of the source text more closely. The analysis of the translated text through the corpus canobjectively,systematically,and effectively reveal the linguistic features of the translation text,thus reveal the translator＇s style. Objective:Gender-specific integrated health services have long existed in the arena of women’s health care,but men’s health centers(MHCs)have only recently emerged as a novel practice model.Here,we seek to evaluate ...Objective:Gender-specific integrated health services have long existed in the arena of women’s health care,but men’s health centers(MHCs)have only recently emerged as a novel practice model.Here,we seek to evaluate the prevalence and format of MHCs found in the leading academic medical centers in the United States.Methods:The US News&World Report’s Top 50 Ranked Hospitals for Urology was used as our cohort.Data were gathered on the presence of MHCs and types of providers and conditions treated.An equivalent search was performed for women’s health centers(WHCs).Results:Sixteen of 50(32%)promoted some type of MHC,compared to 49 of 50(98%)offering a WHC.Eight of the top 15 ranked institutions(53%)had an MHC compared to eight of 35(23%)remaining programs.Six of 16 MHCs incorporated providers from a variety of medical disciplines,including urologists,internists,endocrinologists,cardiologists,and psychologists,while another six of 16 MHCs were staffed solely by urologists.Eight of 16 provided services for exclusively urologic issues,four of 16 offered additional services in treatment of other medical conditions,and four of 16 did not specify.展开更多

The poor state of health in men co...Men＇s health concerns have evolved from the traditional andrology and male sexual health to a more holistic approach that encompasses male psychological, social and physical health. The poor state of health in men compared to their female counterparts is well documented. A review of the epidemiological data from Malaysia noted a similar trend in which men die at higher rates in under 1 and above 15 years old groups and most disease categories compared to women. In Malaysia, the main causes of death in men are non-communicable diseases and injuries. Risk factors, such as risk-taking behaviour, smoking and hypertension, are prevalent and amenable to early interventions. Erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and prostate disorders are also prevalent. However, many of these morbidities go unreported and are not diagnosed early; therefore, opportunities for early intervention are missed. This reflects poor health knowledge and inadequate health-care utilisation among Malaysian men. Their health-seeking behaviour has been shown to be strongly influenced by family members and friends. However, more research is needed to identify men＇s unmet health-care needs and to develop optimal strategies for addressing them. Because the Malaysian population is aging and there is an increase in sedentary lifestyles, optimizing men＇s health will remain a challenge unless effective measures are implemented. The existing male-unfriendly health-care system and the negative influence of masculinity on men＇s health behaviour must be addressed. A national men＇s health policy based on a male-friendly approach to health-care delivery is urgently needed to provide a framework for addressing these challenges.展开更多

Results: Seventy-nine male patients and fifteen primary care physicians were surveyed. Less than 10% of males recalled being screened for osteoporosis. Two-thirds of physicians reported regularly screening males for osteoporosis. Conclusion: Elderly male patients are overwhelmingly under-screened and undertreated for osteoporosis.展开更多

An adequate therapy requires schemes for chro...Prostatitis is a widespread disease associated with pelvic pain syndrome, which is characterized by pelvic pain, various urinary symptoms, and possible sexual dysfunction. An adequate therapy requires schemes for chronic prostatitis that affects, among other things, the atypical causative agents. We investigate a therapy for prostate inflammation consisting in a combination of macrolides with the usage of men’s pads for underwear during the treatment. We demonstrate the efficacy of this therapy on a group of patients with chronic prostatitis. The group of patients under this combination therapy exhibits better recovery dynamics compared to the group of patients who were treated only by macrolides. We observe a statistically significant (p-value < 0.01) difference between the two groups in the data from three sections of the NIH-CPSI questionnaire, which concerned pain, symptoms of impaired urination, and quality of life. The number of patients with soreness of the prostate, with the presence of bacteria and leukocytes in the prostate gland secretion, and with the presence of microorganisms in the PCR tests after treatment was lower in the combination therapy group compared to the macrolide group. The obtained results demonstrate that the use of macrolides in combination with the use of men’s pads in the treatment of chronic prostate inflammation, including “abacterial” prostatitis, is promising. More generally, our results highlight the importance of flexible and individual approaches to the treatment of chronic prostatitis.展开更多

文摘The purpose of this essay is to study whether the linguistic behaviour of adult women using hedging and tags as indicative of an intrinsically tentative gender identity or of the effects of male dominant position through analyzing daily conversations of the heterosexual couples.The small scale study employs the methodology,namely,recording spontaneous and natural spoken conversation from authentic interaction with the permission of the ten male-female couples.Digital record pen with an omnidirectional microphone are placed in the central living area of each couple's home.Then discourse analysis provides data making it possible to support Fishman's claim that women use tag questions and 'you know' not because women are not being really sure of themselves,or are looking to the addressee for confirmation,but because men in a dominant position often refuse to take responsibility for the smooth conduct of interpersonal relations,women use tag questions and 'you know' to elicit and maintain conversations.

文摘This present study explores the translators＇ sWle by comparing the linguisticfeatures of two English versions of Lianghuiwang of Mencius translated by both native andnonnative translators at the lexical and the syntactic level respectively. The findings indicatethat the Chinese translator,Wu Guozhen, takes a more target - reader oriented style by payingnlore attention to the vocabulary richness and structural variety. In contrast, the Americantranslator, Bloom,is more source - text centered by following the vocabulary choice and wordorder of the source text more closely. The analysis of the translated text through the corpus canobjectively,systematically,and effectively reveal the linguistic features of the translation text,thus reveal the translator＇s style. The method and findings of the present study can shed somelight on the English translation theory and practice of the Chinese classics in the new era.
文摘Objective:Gender-specific integrated health services have long existed in the arena of women’s health care,but men’s health centers(MHCs)have only recently emerged as a novel practice model.Here,we seek to evaluate the prevalence and format of MHCs found in the leading academic medical centers in the United States.Methods:The US News&World Report’s Top 50 Ranked Hospitals for Urology was used as our cohort.Data were gathered on the presence of MHCs and types of providers and conditions treated.An equivalent search was performed for women’s health centers(WHCs).Results:Sixteen of 50(32%)promoted some type of MHC,compared to 49 of 50(98%)offering a WHC.Eight of the top 15 ranked institutions(53%)had an MHC compared to eight of 35(23%)remaining programs.Six of 16 MHCs incorporated providers from a variety of medical disciplines,including urologists,internists,endocrinologists,cardiologists,and psychologists,while another six of 16 MHCs were staffed solely by urologists.Eight of 16 provided services for exclusively urologic issues,four of 16 offered additional services in treatment of other medical conditions,and four of 16 did not specify.
文摘Men＇s health concerns have evolved from the traditional andrology and male sexual health to a more holistic approach that encompasses male psychological, social and physical health. The poor state of health in men compared to their female counterparts is well documented. A review of the epidemiological data from Malaysia noted a similar trend in which men die at higher rates in under 1 and above 15 years old groups and most disease categories compared to women. In Malaysia, the main causes of death in men are non-communicable diseases and injuries. Risk factors, such as risk-taking behaviour, smoking and hypertension, are prevalent and amenable to early interventions. Erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and prostate disorders are also prevalent. However, many of these morbidities go unreported and are not diagnosed early; therefore, opportunities for early intervention are missed. This reflects poor health knowledge and inadequate health-care utilisation among Malaysian men. Their health-seeking behaviour has been shown to be strongly influenced by family members and friends. However, more research is needed to identify men＇s unmet health-care needs and to develop optimal strategies for addressing them. Because the Malaysian population is aging and there is an increase in sedentary lifestyles, optimizing men＇s health will remain a challenge unless effective measures are implemented. The existing male-unfriendly health-care system and the negative influence of masculinity on men＇s health behaviour must be addressed. A national men＇s health policy based on a male-friendly approach to health-care delivery is urgently needed to provide a framework for addressing these challenges.

This work showcased an avantgarde, comfortable and concise design style. He used stripes, geometric patterns and other elements to highlight specific elements and applied techniques of hairy edge, asymmetric collage;he explained the charm of practical aesthetics to the audience.
文摘Objective: The goal of this study was to evaluate osteoporosis screening practices in male patients aged 70 and older. Methods: A survey-based study was carried out over six months at an academic primary care institution in the Midwest. Results: Seventy-nine male patients and fifteen primary care physicians were surveyed. Less than 10% of males recalled being screened for osteoporosis. Two-thirds of physicians reported regularly screening males for osteoporosis. Conclusion: Elderly male patients are overwhelmingly under-screened and undertreated for osteoporosis.
文摘This paper focused on Japan who was as a new colonial government in Taiwan under Japanese rule,during the period of which took official buildings or urban planning mainly of a series of Western European-style architecture as a ruler’s cultural identity and a modern Taiwan policy.However,in the context of East Asian modernity,the basic colonial not only mixed Eurocentric,but also included Japan Center and the interaction between the two.Therefore,the scope of research and discussion shall have regarded to the non-Western,non-white nature of the Japanese Empire,and its colonial/modernity construction is another new model.Taiwan Governor-General’s Residence as the Governor-General’s residence for Japanese government combined administrative office,daily living,and social life,showing a symbol of Japan’s colonial ruling class,and a hostel to greet Japanese royal family and the nobility from time to time.As a mansion of both Western Baroque and Japanese style,its architectural design has class meaning,therefore it featured with a class-separation building,also combined the leisure of Western high society.The associated festivals at that time included tea party,fairs and royal family welcoming pilgrimage,the part of which with a strong political implication.This paper mainly uses the images of the Taiwan Governor-General’s Residence during the Japanese rule period and the literature at that time to restore the mixed taste and Japanese-Western style of Taiwan at that time.The Japanese colonists ruled the complex interactions of different ethnic groups in Taiwan.

文摘Prostatitis is a widespread disease associated with pelvic pain syndrome, which is characterized by pelvic pain, various urinary symptoms, and possible sexual dysfunction. An adequate therapy requires schemes for chronic prostatitis that affects, among other things, the atypical causative agents. We investigate a therapy for prostate inflammation consisting in a combination of macrolides with the usage of men’s pads for underwear during the treatment. We demonstrate the efficacy of this therapy on a group of patients with chronic prostatitis. The group of patients under this combination therapy exhibits better recovery dynamics compared to the group of patients who were treated only by macrolides. We observe a statistically significant (p-value < 0.01) difference between the two groups in the data from three sections of the NIH-CPSI questionnaire, which concerned pain, symptoms of impaired urination, and quality of life. The number of patients with soreness of the prostate, with the presence of bacteria and leukocytes in the prostate gland secretion, and with the presence of microorganisms in the PCR tests after treatment was lower in the combination therapy group compared to the macrolide group. The obtained results demonstrate that the use of macrolides in combination with the use of men’s pads in the treatment of chronic prostate inflammation, including “abacterial” prostatitis, is promising. More generally, our results highlight the importance of flexible and individual approaches to the treatment of chronic prostatitis.
