In order to explore the quantitative method of metal magnetic memory testing(MMMT) and clarify the relationship between Hp(y), the normal component of spontaneous stray field, and applied stress or residual stress, the static tensile tests of 0.45%C steel sheet specimens are carried out on a servo hydraulic MTS810 machine. Hp(y) values are measured during the test process by an EMS-2003 metal magnetic memory diagnostic apparatus and a non-magnetic electric control displacement instrument. Residual stresses of some points on the surface of a specimen are measured by a Stress Tech X-Stress 3000 X-ray diffraction instrument. The results show that the same variation rules of Hp(y) value versus applied tensile stress are presented under the different conditions of load-on and load-off. However, the same rule does not exist between the Hp(y) value and residual stress. The variation of Hp(y) value reflects the history of applied tensile stress. 展开更多

Composite-metal joints with a metal insert are one kind of connecting structure. In this paper, tensile experimental tests were carried out to investigate tensile properties of a compositemetal joint with a novel metal insert design.Finite element models of the joint were established, and strain distribution and tensile strength were analyzed. The numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental results. Results show that the joint failure is dominated by shear properties of the resin layer.Increasing the resin layer thickness in a certain range will improve the tensile strength of the joint, while increasing the radius of the fillet on the ending side of the metal insert will decrease the joint strength.Increasing the resin layer plasticity will improve the joint strength. The effect of the embedded depth of the metal insert can be ignored. 展开更多

Using first-principles calculations, we study the tailoring of the electronic and magnetic properties of gallium sulfide nanoribbons(Ga2S2NRs) by mechanical strain. Hydrogen-passivated armchair-and zigzag-edged NRs(ANRs and ZNRs)with different widths are investigated. Significant effects in band gap and magnetic properties are found and analyzed. First, the band gaps and their nature of ANRs can be largely tailored by a strain. The band gaps can be markedly reduced, and show an indirect-direct(I-D) transition under a tensile strain. While under an increasing compressive strain, they undergo a series transitions of I-D-I-D. Five strain zones with distinct band structures and their boundaries are identified. In addition, the carrier effective masses of ANRs are also tunable by the strain, showing jumps at the boundaries. Second, the magnetic moments of(ferromagnetic) ZNRs show jumps under an increasing compressive strain due to spin density redistribution, but are unresponsive to tensile strains. The rich tunable properties by stain suggest potential applications of Ga2S2 NRs in nanoelectronics and optoelectronics. 展开更多

The effect of heat input on fume and their compositions during gas metal arc welding (GMAW) of AISI 316 stainless steel plates are investigated. Fume generation rate (FGR) and fume percentage were determined by ANSI/AWS F1.2 methods. Particle characterization was performed with SEM-XEDS and XRF analysis to reveal the particle morphology and chemical composition of the fume particles. The SEM analysis reveals the morphology of particles having three distinct shapes namely spherical, irregular, and agglomerated. Spherical particles were the most abundant type of individual particle. All the fume particle size falls in the range of less than 100 nm. Mechanical properties (strength, hardness and toughness) and microstructural analysis of the weld deposits were evaluated. It is found that heat input of 1.15 kJ/mm is beneficial to weld stainless steel by GMAW process due to lower level of welding fume emissions and superior mechanical properties of the joints. 展开更多
