This has heightened major interest in potential investigations into the use of supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) power cycles. Climate change mitigation is the ultimate driver for this increased interest;other relevant issues include the potential for high cycle efficiency and a circular economy. In this study, a 25 MWe recompression closed Brayton cycle (RCBC) has been assessed, and sCO2 has been proposed as the working fluid for the power plant. The methodology used in this research work comprises thermodynamic and techno-economic analysis for the prospective commercialization of this sCO2 power cycle. An evaluated estimation of capital expenditure, operational expenditure, and cost of electricity has been considered in this study. The ASPEN Plus simulation results have been compared with theoretical and mathematical calculations to assess the performance of the compressors, turbine, and heat exchangers. The results thus reveal that the cycle efficiency for this prospective sCO2 recompression closed Brayton cycle increases (39% - 53.6%) as the temperature progressively increases from 550˚C to 900˚C. Data from the Aspen simulation model was used to aid the cost function calculations to estimate the total capital investment cost of the plant. Also, the techno-economic results have shown less cost for purchasing equipment due to fewer components being required for the cycle configuration as compared to the conventional steam power plant.展开更多

Two 18650 cells with and without VC additive were investigated by galvanostatic cycling, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that in the presence of VC additive, dissolution of Fe from LiFePO4 material is greatly depressed and stability of graphite structure is improved; the additive can not only reduce reaction of electrolyte on surface of LiFePO4 electrode but also suppress reduction of solvent and thickening of the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer on graphite surface. Electrolyte with VC is considered to be a good candidate for improving cycling performance of the LiFePOa/graphite cell at elevated temperature.展开更多

This paper firstly introduced the basic principles and the distribution characteristics of stable isotope, then reviewed the recent advances and applications of stable isotope in the C and N biogeochemical cycles of ecosystem. By applying the 13 C natural abundance technique, ecologists are able to understand the photosynthetic path and CO 2 fixation of plants, the CO 2 exchange and C balance status of ecosystem, the composition, distribution and turnover of soil organic C and the sources of organic matter in food webs, while by using the 13 C labeled technique, the effects of elevated CO 2 on the C processes of ecosystem and the sources and fate of organic matter in ecosystem can be revealed in detail. Differently, by applying the 15 N natural abundance technique, ecologists are able to analyze the biological N 2 -fixation, the N sources of ecosystem, the N transformation processes of ecosystem and the N trophic status in food webs, while by using the 15 N labeled technique, the sources, transformation and fate of N in ecosystem and the effects of N input on the ecosystem can be investigated in depth. The applications of both C and N isotope natural abundance and labeled techniques, combined with the elemental, other isotope ( 34 S) and molecular biomarker information, will be more propitious to the investigation of C and N cycle mechanisms. Finally, this paper concluded the problems existed in current researches, and put forward the perspective of stable isotope techniques in the studies on C and N biogeochemical cycles of ecosystem in the future.展开更多

The was 0.19-0.26 Pg C yr-1 for the 1980s and 1990s. 4 years in the study of the carbon-nitrogen cycling net carbon sink in the Chinese terrestrial ecosystem Both natural wetlands and the rice-paddy regions emitted 1.76 Tg and 6.62 Tg of CH4 per year for the periods 1995 2004 and 2005 2009, respectively. China emitted -1.1 Tg N20-N yr-1 to the atmosphere in 2004. Land soil contained -8.3 Pg N. The excess nitrogen stored in farmland of the Yangtze River basin reached 1.51 Tg N and 2.67 Tg N in 1980 and 1990, respectively. The outer Yangtze Estuary served as a moderate or significant sink of atmospheric CO2 except in autumn. Phytoplankton could take up carbon at a rate of 6.4 ×1011 kg yr-1 in the China Sea. The global ocean absorbed anthropogenic CO2 at the rates of 1.64 and 1.73 Pg C yr-1 for two sinmlations in the 1990s. Land net ecosystem production in China would increase until the mid-21st century then would decrease gradually under future climate change scenarios. This research should be strengthened in the future, including collection of more observation data, measurement of the soil organic carbon (SOC) loss and sequestration, evaluation of changes in SOC in deep soil layers, and the impacts of grassland management, carbon-nitrogen coupled effects, and development and improvement of various component models and of the coupled carbon cycle-climate model.展开更多

As...Crop harvesting and residue removal from croplands often result in imbalanced biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nutrients in croplands, putting forward an austere challenge to sustainable agricultural production. As a beneficial element, silicon(Si) has multiple eco-physiological functions, which could help crops to acclimatize their unfavorable habitats. Although many studies have reported that the application of Si can alleviate multiple abiotic and biotic stresses and increase biomass accumulation, the effects of Si on carbon immobilization and nutrients uptake into plants in croplands have not yet been explored. This review focused on Si-associated regulation of plant carbon accumulation, lignin biosynthesis, and nutrients uptake, which are important for biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nutrients in croplands. The tradeoff analysis indicates that the supply of bioavailable Si can enhance plant net photosynthetic rate and biomass carbon production(especially root biomass input to soil organic carbon pool), but reduce shoot lignin biosynthesis. Besides, the application of Si could improve uptake of most nutrients under deficient conditions, but restricts excess uptake when they are supplied in surplus amounts. Nevertheless, Si application to crops may enhance the uptake of nitrogen and iron when they are supplied in deficient to luxurious amounts, while potassium uptake enhanced by Si application is often involved in alleviating salt stress and inhibiting excess sodium uptake in plants. More importantly, the amount of Si accumulated in plant positively correlates with nutrients release during the decay of crop biomass, but negatively correlates with straw decomposability due to the reduced lignin synthesis. The Si-mediated plant growth and litter decomposition collectively suggest that Si cycling in croplands plays important roles in biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nutrients. Hence, scientific Si management in croplands will be helpful for maintaining sustainable development of agriculture.展开更多

The influences imposed by carbonation on the freeze-thaw damage of concrete was studied as well and vise versa so as to shed light on the influencing mechanism together with the mutual interaction between them. The experimental results show that the damage caused by the coupling effect of freeze-thaw and carbonation on concrete is severer than any single effect of them two could bring. This provides certain theoretical references and paves down foundations for the further study in concrete durability related by the coupling environmental effect.展开更多

文摘The characteristics of reactive magnesia(MgO)-carbonated silt in respect to long-term stability have not been well understood in severely cold climate despite the usage of reactive MgO in enhancing the engineering performances.Under the binder content of 15%and initial water content of 25%,MgO-admixed silt specimens were carbonized for 3 h and 6 h and then subjected to different numbers of freezingthawing(F-T)cycles.After different F-T cycles, the physico-mechanical properties of MgO-carbonated silt were analyzed in comparison with Portland cement(PC)-stabilized silt through physical and unconfined compression tests.Besides,a series of micro tests on MgO-carbonated specimens was performed including X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)tests. The results demonstrate that both mass change ratio and moisture content of carbonated/stabilized silt decrease, and these values of MgO-carbonated silt are significantly lower while the density is higher compared to PC-stabilized silt. The strengths and moduli of MgO-carbonated silt are still two times higher than those of PC-stabilized specimens and the strength change ratio of keeps above0.8 after F-T cycles. There is no visible transformation between nesquehonite and dypingite/hydromagnesite,although the XRD peaks of nesquehonite decrease and the bonding and filling effects weaken slightly. After 6 and 10 F-T cycles, the pore-size characteristics changed from a unimodal distribution to a three-peak and bimodal distribution, respectively. The total, macro and large pore volumes increase obviously while the medium and small pore volumes decrease except for intra-aggregate pore. The findings show better F-T durability of MgO-carbonated silt, which would be helpful for facilitating the application of MgO carbonation in the soil treatment.
文摘A combined system model is proposed including a molten carbonate fuel cell(MCFC),a graphene thermionic converter(GTIC)and thermally regenerative electrochemical cycles(TRECs).The expressions for power output, energy efficiency of the subsystems and the couple system are formulated by considering several irreversible losses.Energy conservation equations between the subsystems are achieved leaned on the first law of thermodynamics. The optimum operating ranges for the combined system are determined compared with the MCFC system. Results reveal that the peak power output density(POD)and the corresponding energy efficiency are 28.22%and 10.76%higher than that of the single MCFC system, respectively. The effects of five designing parameters on the power density and energy efficiency of the MCFC/GTIC/TRECs model are also investigated and discussed.

文摘Effects of film-forming additive on stability of electrode and cycling performance of LiFePO4/graphite cell at elevated temperature were studied. Electrolyte with VC is considered to be a good candidate for improving cycling performance of the LiFePOa/graphite cell at elevated temperature.

文摘Two kinds of carbon cycle on Earth have been recognized:surface short-term and deep long-term carbon cycles(Berner,2003;Zhang et al.,2017).Over the years, the surface short-term carbon cycle has been attracted extensive attention because of their significance implications in the study of environmental changes of human beings.Recently, scientists found more than 98%carbon is stored in the solid Earth which takes great role on the surface carbon cycle(DePaolo,2015;Kelemen and Manning,2015;Plank and Manning,2019;Mao and Mao,2020).Therefore,the research of deep carbon cycle is very significant to the study of the formation and evolution,multi-layered interaction and habitability of the Earth. On the other hand, recent petrological study combined with high pressure-temperature experimental simulation shows that abiotic methane can be formed by the metamorphic reduction of carbonates during the subduction metamorphism(Tao et al.,2018;Wang et al.,2022;Zhang et al.,2023).

文摘The carbon cycle is an important process that regulates Earth's evolution. We compare two typical periods,in the Paleoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic,in which many geological events occurred. It remains an open question when modern plate tectonics started on Earth and how it has influenced the carbon cycle through time.In the Paleoproterozoic, intense weathering in a highly CO_(2)and CH_(4)rich atmosphere caused more nutritional elements to be carried into the ocean.Terrestrial input boosted high biological productivity, deposition of sediments and the formation of an altered oceanic crust, which may have promoted an increase in the oxygen content.Sediment lubrication and a decrease in mantle potential temperature made cold and deep subduction possible, which carried more carbon into the deep mantle.Carbon can be stored in the mantle as diamond and carbonated mantle rocks, being released by arc and mid-ocean ridge outgassing at widely different times. From the Paleoproterozoic through the Neoproterozoic to the Phanerozoic, the carbon cycle has promoted the evolution of a habitable Earth.
文摘The carbon pools of biomass, littering, and SOC wre studied with regards to carbon cycles in epikarst zone, taking an example of Yaji Karst Experiemnt Site in Guilin. This study was focused on SOC and its lability,SOC decomposition rate,CO 2 regime in the soils. 13 ctracing was used to persua the relation of bicarbonate in karst water to soil carbon. The results indicated sufficient carbon pool in SOC for the driveing CO 2 in the karst system. It was revealed that about 60percent of carbon in epi-karst springs resulted from SOC during spring and summer. Thus, the CO 2,driving the karstification, was not simply due to adsorption of atmospheric CO 2 but due to carbon transfer through the pathway of air-plant-soil-water.The driving force should not be overlooked for the epi-karst formation by soil as an interface of carbon environmental geochemistry.

文摘Stable isotope techniques have been proved useful as tools for studying the carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) biogeochemical cycles of ecosystem. Finally, this paper concluded the problems existed in current researches, and put forward the perspective of stable isotope techniques in the studies on C and N biogeochemical cycles of ecosystem in the future.

文摘This article reviews recent advances over the past and their relationship to climate change in China. This research should be strengthened in the future, including collection of more observation data, measurement of the soil organic carbon (SOC) loss and sequestration, evaluation of changes in SOC in deep soil layers, and the impacts of grassland management, carbon-nitrogen coupled effects, and development and improvement of various component models and of the coupled carbon cycle-climate model.

文摘The high-pressure behavior of deep carbonate dictates the state and dynamics of oxidized carbon in the Earth's mantle, playing a vital role in the global carbon cycle and potentially influencing long-term climate change.Optical absorption and Raman spectroscopic measurements were carried out on two natural carbonate samples in diamond-anvil cells up to 60 GPa.Mg-substitution in high-spin siderite FeCO_(3)increases the crystal field absorption band position by approximately 1000 cm^(-1),but such an effect is marginal at>40 GPa when entering the low-spin state. The crystal field absorption band of dolomite cannot be recognized upon compression to 45.8 GPa at room temperature but,in contrast, the high-pressure polymorph of dolomite exhibits a strong absorption band at frequencies higher than(Mg,Fe)CO_(3)in the lowspin state by 2000–2500 cm^(-1).Additionally,these carbonate minerals show more complicated features for the absorption edge, decreasing with pressure and undergoing a dramatic change through the spin crossover. The optical and vibrational properties of carbonate minerals are highly correlated with iron content and spin transition, indicating that iron is preferentially partitioned into low-spin carbonates. These results shed new light on how carbonate minerals evolve in the mantle, which is crucial to decode the deep carbon cycle.

文摘Silicon(Si)is a potential high-capacity anode material for the next-generation lithium-ion battery with high energy density. However,Si anodes suff er from severe interfacial chemistry issues, such as side reactions at the electrode/electrolyte interface, leading to poor electrochemical cycling stability.Herein,we demonstrate the fabrication of a conformal fl uorine-containing carbon(FC)layer on Si particles(Si-FC)and its in situ electrochemical conversion into a LiF-rich carbon layer above 1.5 V(vs.Li^(+)/Li).The as-formed LiF-rich carbon layer not only isolates the active Si and electrolytes, leading to the suppression of side reactions, but also induces the formation of a robust solid-electrolyte interface(SEI),leading to the stable interfacial chemistry of as-designed Si-FC particles. The Si-FC electrode has a high initial Coulombic effi ciency(CE)of 84.8%and a high reversible capacity of 1450 mAh/g at 0.4 C(1000 mA/g)for 300 cycles. In addition,a hybrid electrode consisting of 85 wt%graphite and 15 wt%Si-FC,and mass 2.3 mg/cm^(2) loading delivers a high areal capacity of 2.0 mAh/cm^(2) and a high-capacity retention of 93.2%after 100 cycles, showing the prospects for practical use.

文摘Crop harvesting and residue removal from croplands often result in imbalanced biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nutrients in croplands, putting forward an austere challenge to sustainable agricultural production. Hence, scientific Si management in croplands will be helpful for maintaining sustainable development of agriculture.

文摘Simulating the coupling effect brought by freeze-thaw and carbonation environment, we experimentally investigated concrete durability, the variation characteristics of both concrete dynamic elastic modulus, and its neutralization depth. This provides certain theoretical references and paves down foundations for the further study in concrete durability related by the coupling environmental effect.

文摘Palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions of the Cryogenian Period have attracted attention in relation to the debated“Snowball Earth”hypothesis and the early evolution of metazoan life. The carbon cycle and redox conditions of the Sturtian-Marinoan non-glacial interval have been subjected to much controversy in the past decades because of the lack of a high-resolution stratigraphic correlation scheme. As one of the typical Sturtian-Marinoan interglacial deposits, the Datangpo Formation was widely distributed in South China with shales continuously deposited. The previous zircon dating data of the Datangpo Formation provide important ages for global constrain of the Sturtian-Marinoan non-glacial interval. Here we present a high-resolution straitigraphic study of the organic carbon isotopes of the Datangpo Formation from a drill core section in northern Guizhou Province.Based on measured episodicδ^(13)C_(org) perturbations, three positive shifts and three negative excursions are identified.Aδ^(13)C_(org)-based chemostratigraphic correlation scheme is proposed herein that works well for the Datangpo Formation regionally.Meanwhile,theδ^(13)C_(org) vertical gradients changed dynamically throughout the formation. This discovery implies that a significant ocean circulation overturn might have occurred in the upper Datangpo Formation, coinciding with the potential oxygenation.

文摘Based on seawater immersion,drying-wetting cycles, carbonation and drying-wetting cycles for coral aggregate sea-water concrete(CASC)with different strength grades, the effect of carbonation and drying-wetting cycles on chloride diffusion be-havior of CASC is studied. The results show that the free surface chloride concentration(Cs),free chloride diffusion coefficient(Df)and time-dependent index(m)of CASC in the drying-wetting cycles is obviously higher than that in seawater immersion. The Df and m of CASC of carbonation and drying-wetting cycles is higher than that in the drying-wetting cycles.Carbonation increases the Df and m of CASC,which is against CASC to resist chloride corrosion. The corrosion possibility of CASC structures in different ex-posed areas is as follows:splash zone(carbonation and drying-wetting cycles)>tidal zone(drying-wetting cycles)>underwater zone(seawater immersion).Besides, the chloride diffusion rate of C65-CASC is 17.8%-63.4%higher than that of C65-ordinary aggre-gate concrete(OAC)in seawater immersion(underwater zone).Therefore,anti-corrosion measures should be adopted to improve the service life of CASC structure in the oceanic environment.

文摘Although the tobacco industry is a significant contributor to energy consumption and carbon emissions its negative environmental impact has received inadequate attention globally.Cigarette factories are a key link in the tobacco industry’s production chain, and using data provided by a cigarette factory in China we conduct a life cycle assessment to account for the carbon footprint of cigar production in cigarette factories. The results of the assessment show that factory air conditioning is the most important contributor to the environmental load of the cigar manufacturing process, while electricity is the key factor that contributes the greatest envi‐ronmental load across all of the processes in the product life cycle. In addition, packaging, including small boxes and cigarette cartons, has a significant impact on the industry’s environmental footprint due to its use of raw materials. We find the carbon footprint of the entire production process for cigar products to be 383.59 kg CO_(2) eq.Based on our findings,we suggest ways to optimize cigar/cigarette factory processes to re‐duce carbon emissions that can help to promote sustainable development in related industries.
