Methods: This study was carried out in a rural city in Japan recognized as underpopulated and participants were civil servants aged 45 - 64 who joined a stress management program offered as part of staff training. Learning materials for the program were developed based on the type A behavior pattern. Measures for the impact evaluation were Bloom’s learning domains and stage of change for stress management practice. Measures for the outcome evaluation were KG’s Daily Life Questionnaire (KG Questionnaire), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Framingham 10-year cardiovascular risk score (CVD risk score). We statistically analyzed changes in each item between time points. Results: Eighteen participants completed questionnaire surveys at pre-, post-, and 4 weeks post-program and eleven had complete blood pressure and weight measurements at pre- and post-program. In the impact evaluation, the Friedman test found significant differences between the three time points in all of Bloom’s learning domain scores and stage of change for stress management. In the post hoc analysis, a significant increase was seen between pre- and post-program and between pre- and 4 weeks post-program in cognitive domain score, psychomotor domain score and stage of change for stress management. In the outcome evaluation, a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure was seen between pre- and post-program. Conclusion: The present study suggested that a stress management program using learning materials based on type A behavior could promote stress management practices and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This stress management program is expected to be useful as a health promotion activity for middle-aged residents after retirement in underpopulated areas.展开更多

Because the increase in water age is dependent on the difference between the production and consumption rates, high residence time in pipes and storage duration in water tanks. The goal of this study is to analyze the effects residence time to water quality in large water distribution systems. According to the results in Ahwaz, bacterial growth (HPC) has a direct relationship with water age, and changing rate of the bacterial growth (HPC) and the distance travelled and residence time have been caused to increase water age, bacterial growth (HPC), chlorine consumption and hydraulic change. So bacterial growth (HPC) doesn’t have any relationship with THMs and Tol Coli form, but has a reversed relationship with residual chlorine nearly.展开更多

Methods: 195 posterior-anterior chest radiographs without significant abnormalities were shown to 5 staff radiologists and 6 radiology residents, who were asked to provide their estimates of patient age to the nearest decade. Real patient age distribution ranged from 16 to 91 years of age. Results: On average, correct estimate of patient age decade was made in 22% of cases. Staff radiologists were overall more accurate in their estimations compared to residents. Best accuracy was achieved by the radiologist with the most years of clinical experience, however overall accuracy did not tend to correlate with number of years in practice for staff, nor years of post-graduate training for residents. Overall, patient age was most often overestimated. The least accurate estimates were made for patients younger than 20 years and older than 90. Best accuracy was seen for patients between 50 and 70 years of age. For patients between 20 and 90 years of age, overall estimates were within 11 - 15 years of their true age. There was no significant difference in accuracy of age estimation between radiographs of women and men. Conclusions: Average rate of correct age estimation to the nearest decade from normal frontal chest radiographs in our study was 22%. Staff radiologists were more accurate than radiology residents. Best estimates were made for middle-aged patients, and worst for extremes of age.展开更多

A series of model experiments representing base case, remote-wind-induced water level set-up and local winds cases are conducted. Model results indicate that the pollutant mean age and the system residence time are functions of gravitational circulation in the PRE. The system responses to remote-wind-induced water level set-up are different in different portions of the PRE. Under such condition, dissolved substances in the upstream portion of the PRE have a younger age and shorter residence time (compared with the base case) , by contrast, they have a older age and longer residence time in the downstream portion of the PRE. Upriver and downriver local winds appear to have opposite impacts on pollutant age distributions. The substances are retained much longer within the PRE under upriver wind than those under downriver wind. The model results also suggest that across - river winds may lead to longer residence time through enhanced turbulence mixing, which slows down the gravitational circulation in the PRE.展开更多
